Cladonia (cup lichen) is a genus of moss-like lichens in the family Cladoniaceae. They are the primary food source for reindeer/caribou. Cladonia species are of economic importance to reindeer-herders, such as the Sami in Scandinavia or the Nenets in Russia. Antibiotic compounds are extracted from some species to create antibiotic cream. The light green species Cladonia stellaris is used in flower decorations.

This invention discloses a strain of *Lichtheimia corymbifera* and its applications. The *Lichtheimia corymbifera* strain is strain M314, deposited at the China Center for Type Culture Collection (CCTCC) on March 20, 2026, with accession number CCTCC M 2026484. The β-caryophyllene content in the fermentation broth obtained by fermenting cloves with this *Lichtheimia corymbifera* strain can be increased to over 11339.26 μg / L. Furthermore, this invention provides the application of this fermentation system in the saccharification stage of baijiu (Chinese liquor), which can significantly increase the β-caryophyllene content in baijiu and improve its aroma and flavor quality. This invention features a stable process, mild conditions, significant effects, good compatibility with baijiu production processes, and promising prospects for industrial application.
