Abstract

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for compensating for deterioration of a printed image due to a malfunctioning nozzle that ejects ink irregularly. The method includes detecting a malfunctioning nozzle among nozzles installed in the inkjet image forming apparatus, and increasing a dithering threshold of a position adjacent to a compensation position printed by the detected malfunctioning nozzle. The method adjusts the dithering threshold of the printing position of the faulty nozzle or the dithering threshold of the adjacent printing position, and thus performs halftone conversion and prints the image. Therefore, deterioration of image quality such as visible white banding can be suppressed, and the life of the print head can be extended.
