Battery charging method and system

Abstract

Method for charging a battery (100) with a first voltage (116) and a second voltage (118), wherein the method has in a first phase (306) applying a constant current to the battery (100); in a second phase (308) applying current pulses (310) to the battery (100), wherein the current pulses are separated by a current pause (312) during which the current is at or near zero; Provision of a fixed reference voltage; iterative repetition a sampling of the first voltage (116) during a current pulse (310) to obtain a measurement of the first voltage; a sampling of the first voltage (116) during a current pause (312) in order to obtain a measurement of the second voltage (118); a generating of a dynamic reference voltage (302) based on the fixed reference voltage and on a difference between the measurement of the first voltage and the measurement of the second voltage; a comparison of the measurement of the first voltage with the dynamic reference voltage (302); Terminating the application of the current pulses (310) when at least one of the measurements of the first voltage is equal to the dynamic reference voltage (302) and the measurement of the second voltage is equal to the fixed reference voltage.
