Description

Technical Field

[0001] The field of the present invention is packaged deodorant stick products and particularly packaging / dispensers therefor.

[0002] Deodorant stick products are used to reduce body odor after topical application.Topical application is typically accomplished by swiping the top of the deodorant stick composition across the human skin, particularly the underarm area.

[0003] The action of sliding a deodorant stick composition across the underarm area exerts strong lateral forces on the deodorant stick composition, requiring it to have good physical strength and the ability to resist such shear forces. The deodorant stick products of the present invention are specifically designed to resist these forces.

[0004] Herein, the term "deodorant stick composition" may be abbreviated as "composition".

[0005] In this context, preferred features of the invention are particularly preferred when used in combination with other preferred features.

[0006] As used herein, "ambient conditions" refers to approximately 20°C and 1 atmosphere of pressure, unless otherwise indicated.

[0007]

[0043] Unless otherwise indicated herein, all numbers, amounts and ratios may optionally be understood to be modified by the word "about".

[0008] In this document, the word "comprising" means "including", but not necessarily "consisting of", ie it is not exhaustive.

[0009] As used herein, "cosmetic" methods and compositions are to be understood as non-therapeutic methods and compositions, respectively.

[0010] As used herein, positional terms, such as terms indicating relative position, e.g., "upper," "lower," "top," "bottom," refer to the stick product being oriented so that the deodorant stick composition is located directly above its retaining member, which is located above an associated holder.

[0011] In this document, the term "packaging element" refers to a collective term for part or all of the holding member, the retainer, and the cover.

[0012] In this context, a deodorant stick is typically an antiperspirant stick composition, i.e., an antiperspirant stick. Such a stick can reduce perspiration after topical application, as well as reduce body odor. References to deodorant sticks herein should be understood to apply equally to antiperspirant sticks. Background Art

[0013] The present invention relates to deodorant stick products (e.g., deodorant and / or antiperspirant products for application to the human axillary area) and related packaging / dispensers. More particularly, the present invention relates to a packaging / dispenser for deodorant stick products in which the product is fully exposed on a support for use, the package not requiring structure for lifting the product out of the package for use.

[0014] Current deodorant stick products typically include a deodorant stick composition surrounded on all sides by a plastic container and having some means, usually a platform and associated spindle, designed to lift the deodorant stick composition out of the top of the plastic container. The container can be used until the composition is exhausted and then discarded in its entirety.

[0015] It would be desirable to provide improved packaging for deodorant stick products wherein the packaging is simple - that is, does not require a mechanism for lifting the product out of the housing which adds cost and complexity to the packaging.

[0016] US 5496122 (Mennen, 1996) discloses a replaceable stick deodorant package in which the product is fully exposed on a holding member, and also discloses a process for manufacturing such a product. The composition is held on a holding member which is assembled into a handle by snap fit.

[0017] US 4235557 (Ethyl Corp., 1980) discloses a dispensing device for hot-filled solid products, such as antiperspirant stick compositions, which are held on a product retaining structure which is threadably mounted into a handle. Summary of the invention

[0018] In a first aspect of the present invention, a packaged deodorant stick product is provided, comprising a deodorant stick composition, a holding member and a retainer, wherein the deodorant stick composition is mounted on the holding member, the holding member comprising one of a snap fit and a holder, the retainer comprising the other of the snap fit and the holder, wherein the snap fit can be lockably received in the holder so that the holding member can be removably connected to the retainer.

[0019] In these embodiments of the present invention, a product user can connect a holding member and an associated deodorant stick composition to a holder. The deodorant stick composition can be consumed in use until replacement is required. The user can then disconnect the holding member from the holder, discard it and the associated spent composition, and replace it with a new holding member and an associated new composition.

[0020] In some embodiments of the present invention, the holding member and the deodorant stick composition mounted thereon can be removably connected to the holder. Thus, the holder can be reused multiple times by simply removing the old holding member and the deodorant stick composition that has been depleted, and connecting a new holding member with a new composition mounted thereon to it.

[0021] In these embodiments, the holder can form a large part of the dispensing package, so that a large part of the packaging material contained in the deodorant stick product is reusable. Only relatively few elements of the dispensing package need to be discarded and replaced, namely the retaining member. This greatly reduces the amount of packaging material consumed when using the present invention.

[0022] In these embodiments, the packaging material may be plastic.

[0023] In some embodiments of the present invention, the deodorant stick composition may be rigidly mounted to the holding member, with a majority of the composition exposed, such that it need not be lifted or dispensed from the package.

[0024] In these embodiments, there is no need to use any platforms or mandrels, such as those used in known deodorant stick products. Therefore, the need for dispensing materials in the product is also greatly reduced (if not eliminated).

[0025] The holder enables the deodorant stick product to be easily held in one hand and allows the composition to be applied to a desired surface.

[0026] Another advantage of the present invention is that the deodorant stick composition can be placed or replaced in its holder without touching the deodorant stick composition with hands.

[0027] In an embodiment of the invention, the retaining member comprises a first connection surface from which the bayonet extends, and wherein the holder comprises a second connection surface on which the seat is located.

[0028] In these embodiments of the present invention, a user of the deodorant stick product can attach the retaining member and the deodorant stick composition mounted thereon to the holder by inserting the bayonet into the receptacle.

[0029] The deodorant stick product may have an oval cross-section when viewed from above. In other embodiments of the present invention, the deodorant stick product may have an oblong cross-section when viewed from above. In further embodiments of the present invention, the deodorant stick product may have a cross-section of any suitable shape.

[0030] Herein, "major axis" refers to the axis extending along the longest diameter of the elliptical / oblong cross-section, and "minor axis" refers to the axis extending along the shortest diameter of the elliptical / oblong cross-section.

[0031] Also herein, "central axis" refers to an axis perpendicular to a cross section and extending through its center. The central axis may be defined to pass through the retaining member and the retainer such that when the retaining member is connected to the retainer, the retaining member and the retainer are coaxial along their central axis.

[0032] Furthermore, a central axis can be defined to pass through the bayonet and the holder. The central axis of the bayonet and the central axis of the holder can each extend coaxially along the central axis of the oval cross section of the product. This makes inserting the bayonet into the holder an intuitive operation that can be performed without directly viewing the bayonet and the holder.

[0033] When the holding member is connected to the holder via the bayonet and the bracket, the holding member is fixed relative to the holder along its central axis. The axial fixity of the holding member makes it different from most "platforms" used in traditional deodorant sticks. The deodorant stick products according to these embodiments of the present invention can promote faster and more convenient use of the product because the user can apply the deodorant stick composition immediately before each use without taking the time to lift the platform holding the deodorant stick composition (usually by rotating it).

[0034] In an embodiment of the present invention, the bracket comprises a retaining frame, and the bayonet comprises a protrusion engageable with the retaining frame, whereby when the protrusion engages with the retaining frame, the bayonet is locked in the bracket.

[0035] In such an embodiment, the retaining member may be securely locked to the holder so that the two components are less likely to accidentally separate when the product is in use. There may be more than one retaining bracket and a corresponding number of radial projections.

[0036] In such embodiments of the present invention, the projection can extend outwardly from the bayonet, and further, the projection can extend radially outwardly from the bayonet. In addition, the holder can extend inwardly from the bracket, and further, the holder can extend radially inwardly into the opening of the bracket, and the bayonet can be received by the opening.

[0037] It will be appreciated that in some embodiments, there may be a single projection and a single holder, while in other embodiments, there may be more than one projection and there may be more than one holder. In addition, there may be more or less projections than the holder.

[0038] In an embodiment of the present invention, the bayonet member includes a pair of flanges, and each flange includes a protrusion.

[0039] In such an embodiment, the bayonet may be formed by a pair of flanges extending parallel to each other from the first connecting surface of the retaining member. Each flange may include a protrusion extending outwardly from the bayonet.

[0040] In an embodiment of the present invention, the retaining member comprises one of a stopper and a recess, and the holder comprises the other of the stopper and the recess, wherein the recess is adapted to receive the stopper.

[0041] In these embodiments, the retaining member can be connected to the holder by inserting the bayonet into the holder and rotating the bayonet relative to the holder so that the protrusion engages with the holder. When the protrusion engages with the holder, the recess can receive the stop. This can provide resistance to further rotation of the bayonet relative to the holder, thereby maintaining the engagement of the protrusion with the holder when the deodorant stick product is used.

[0042] In an embodiment of the present invention, the bayonet can be rotated relative to the bracket between a first position and a second position, so that in the first position, the radial protrusion does not engage with the retaining frame and the recess does not receive the stop member, while in the second position, the radial protrusion engages with the retaining frame and the stop member is received by the recess.

[0043] In these embodiments, the bracket may include an opening, and the retaining bracket may extend inwardly from the opening. This results in a reduction in the size of the opening where the retaining bracket extends into the opening. Thus, the size of the bracket opening may be adapted to allow the bayonet to be inserted into the bracket only when the protrusion is in a specific orientation. This occurs when the bayonet is in the first position.

[0044] The dimensions of the socket may be adapted to accommodate the bayonet when the protrusion is in any orientation. This means that once the bayonet has been inserted into the socket, the bayonet may be rotated relative to the socket.

[0045] The projection and the holder can be configured so that when the bayonet is located in the bracket, the bayonet rotates relative to the bracket to the second position so that the projection slides below the holder. Therefore, when the bayonet is in the second position, the projection engages with the holder.

[0046] In the second position, the protrusion is in such an orientation that, due to the presence of the retaining frame, the opening of the bracket cannot accommodate the size of the bayonet. This means that when the bayonet is in the second position, the bayonet cannot be directly removed from the bracket. In other words, the bayonet is locked in the bracket, thereby connecting the retaining member to the holder.

[0047] Furthermore, in the second position, the stopper is received by the notch. This provides resistance to further rotation of the bayonet relative to the holder, thereby maintaining the orientation of the projection engaging the holder when the deodorant stick product is used. Thus, the bayonet remains locked in the holder, and the retaining member (and the associated deodorant stick composition) remains connected to the holder.

[0048] In some embodiments of the present invention, the stopper is elastically deformable. In such embodiments, the retaining member can be disconnected from the retainer by applying a rotational force relative to the retainer to the retaining member, the rotational force being sufficient to deform the stopper so that it withdraws from the recess.

[0049] In other words, while it is unlikely, if not impossible, for the retaining member to accidentally become disconnected from the holder while using the deodorant stick product, the user can purposefully disconnect the retaining member from the holder and replace it with a new one of their choice.

[0050] The holder is designed to be removably connected to the holding member in the above manner. It is also designed to allow the product to be held in a person's hand. The holder allows the deodorant stick composition to be easily applied to human skin.

[0051] In an embodiment of the present invention, the holding member comprises a holding structure extending from a holding surface of the holding member.

[0052] In these embodiments, the holding surface may be spaced apart from the first connection surface. The deodorant stick composition is mounted on the holding surface of the holding member. The holding force of the deodorant stick composition is enhanced by extending from the holding surface, away from the first connection surface and into the holding structure of the composition.

[0053] Thus, in embodiments of the present invention, the retaining structure is embedded in the deodorant stick composition.

[0054] The deodorant stick composition used in the present invention is solid in nature and generally has a melting point greater than 40° C. at 1 atmosphere. The deodorant stick composition may have a melting point greater than 50° C. or greater than 60° C. at 1 atmosphere. Whether the melting point at 1 atmosphere is greater than 40° C., 50° C. or 60° C., the melting point may be less than 90° C.

[0055] As used herein, a deodorant stick composition is deemed to have become molten when it is able to flow under the influence of gravity alone, and the melting point is defined as the temperature at which it becomes molten.

[0056] Deodorant stick compositions are typically formed and attached to a holding member by a hot fill process whereby molten deodorant stick compositions are typically poured into a mold, placed in contact with a holding member while still molten, and then allowed to cool to form a solidified composition attached to the holding member.

[0057] Additionally, the holding structure may be dipped into the molten rod-form composition so that when the composition is allowed to cool, it solidifies around the holding structure.

[0058] In such embodiments, there is no need to use disposable packaging material around the outer wall of the deodorant stick composition in order to hold the composition in the deodorant stick product as is typically required in known deodorant stick products. Therefore, the amount of disposable packaging material required to produce the deodorant stick products according to these embodiments of the present invention is reduced compared to known deodorant stick products.

[0059] In an embodiment of the present invention, the holding structure comprises a plurality of bridge structures. In addition, in an embodiment of the present invention, the bridge structure is a curved bridge structure.

[0060] In such an embodiment, the bridge structure can be separated by a hole extending through the holding member from the holding surface to the first connecting surface. The bridge structure extends upwardly from the holding member away from the first connecting surface. In addition, the bridge structure extends into the deodorant stick composition and is embedded therein.

[0061] During the manufacturing process, the molten composition passes through the holes and surrounds the bridge structure. When the composition solidifies, the bridge structure is embedded therein. This greatly enhances the holding force of the deodorant stick composition through the holding structure, reducing the possibility of the composition breaking or being sheared during use.

[0062] In embodiments of the present invention, the product has an elliptical cross section. In these embodiments, the retaining structure also has an elliptical cross section. The bridge structure and the holes therebetween traverse the width of the retaining member in a direction parallel to the minor axis of the product's elliptical cross section.

[0063] In an embodiment of the present invention, the deodorant stick product includes a cap, wherein the deodorant stick composition is receivable within the cap, and the cap is attachable to the holder.

[0064] In these embodiments of the present invention, a cap can be attached to the holder so that it covers the deodorant stick composition. Thus, the cap can protect the stick composition from damage and from drying out over time.

[0065] As used herein, the term "hardness" relates to the force required to move a penetration cone a specified distance into a deodorant stick composition at a controlled rate under the following test conditions. These values are measured at 27°C, 15% relative humidity using a TA-XT2 texture analyzer available from Texture Technology, Inc. of Scarsdale, New York, USA. The product hardness value represents the peak force required to move a standard 45° angle penetration cone a distance of 10 mm in the composition at a rate of 2 mm / second. The standard cone is available from Texture Technology, Inc. as part number TA-15, with an overall cone length of approximately 24.7 mm, an oblique cone length of approximately 18.3 mm, and a maximum diameter of the oblique surface of the cone of approximately 15.5 mm. The cone is a smooth stainless steel structure and weighs 17.8 grams.

[0066] In an embodiment of the invention, the holder comprises an upper element and a lower element, the lower element being adapted to receive and hold the upper element.

[0067] In these embodiments, the upper member includes a second connection surface and a bracket located on the second connection surface.

[0068] In some embodiments, the upper element and the lower element can be formed separately. This allows the upper and lower elements to be formed of different materials, which can provide different characteristics that are beneficial to each element. For example, the upper element can be formed of a rigid material to provide a firm connection with a holding member, while the lower element can be formed of an elastically deformable material that can resist rupture if the user drops the deodorant stick product. In addition, the upper and lower elements can be adapted to provide empty space in the retainer, thereby limiting the quantity of packaging materials required for the production product. In other embodiments, the upper and lower elements can be integrally formed.

[0069] In an embodiment of the present invention, the deodorant stick has a hardness of at least 600 grams force.

[0070] In these embodiments, the hardness of the deodorant stick product can be 600 grams force to 5000 grams force, 750 grams force to 2000 grams force, or 800 grams force to 1400 grams force. This enables the stick to withstand the lateral forces encountered during topical application. More particularly, it allows the stick to remain attached to its retaining member during use.

[0071] The deodorant stick compositions of the present invention do not require a plastic shaft through them to help them lift from the packaging. This is because the holding structure of the holding member is embedded in the deodorant stick composition, and no further packaging is required to wrap the periphery of the composition to hold it on the packaging. The absence of a central axis through the deodorant stick composition is an advantage of the present invention because it reduces the amount of disposable packaging material required, and the deodorant stick composition can be applied more quickly. However, the lack of a central axis may adversely affect the structural strength of the deodorant stick, so a relatively low ratio of the deodorant stick composition height to other dimensions of the deodorant stick product may be beneficial (see below).

[0072] Herein, the height of the "retaining material" is the combined height of the retainer and the holding member when they are connected. Also herein, the initial height of the deodorant stick composition is the height of the deodorant stick composition before it has been used.

[0073] In an embodiment of the present invention, the ratio of the initial height of the deodorant stick composition to the height of the retaining material is 1:2 to 3:2.

[0074] It has been discovered that having the height of the deodorant stick within these ranges relative to the height of the retaining material increases the strength of the deodorant stick composition and reduces its tendency to break or shear.

[0075] In other embodiments, the ratio is 2:3 to 1:1.

[0076] In this context, the "width" of a deodorant stick product is the smallest cross-sectional diameter of the stick. For a stick-shaped deodorant stick product with an elliptical cross section, it is equivalent to the minor axis of the ellipse.

[0077] In an embodiment of the present invention, the ratio of the initial height to width of the deodorant stick composition is 1:2 to 3:2.

[0078] It has been discovered that having a deodorant stick height within these ranges relative to the width of the deodorant stick can increase the strength of the deodorant stick composition and reduce its tendency to break or shear.

[0079] In other embodiments, the ratio is 2:3 to 4:3.

[0080] In an embodiment of the present invention, the deodorant stick composition is an antiperspirant stick composition.

[0081] In these embodiments, an antiperspirant stick product equivalent to the deodorant stick product according to the first aspect of the present invention is provided. Just as the advantages of the deodorant stick product according to the first aspect of the present invention compared with the known deodorant stick product, the antiperspirant stick product may have the same or similar advantages as the known antiperspirant stick product.

[0082] According to the packaging element of the present invention (for example lid, holding member and retainer), conventional materials (for example plastic materials) for solid stick product packaging can be made. The packaging element can be made by conventional injection molding technology, and its construction material is preferably a thermoplastic material with appropriate rigidity, to withstand the power that the device will withstand when the product is filled into the package by hot filling technology and when the consumer uses the product. The construction material must be able to withstand the hot filling temperature without deformation, and the deformation temperature is greater than 50°C, preferably greater than 60°C, more preferably greater than 70°C, most preferably greater than 80°C. The material example that can be used is polyolefin, for example polypropylene or polyethylene, especially high-density polyethylene.

[0083] In a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of applying a deodorant stick composition to the surface of the human body, particularly for achieving a deodorizing effect or reducing sweating, by using a deodorant stick product according to the first aspect of the present invention.

[0084] In a third aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of reducing perspiration comprising topically applying a deodorant composition to the surface of the human body using a product according to the first aspect of the present invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0099] First reference Figure 1 , a deodorant stick product according to an embodiment of the first aspect of the present invention is generally designated by reference numeral 1. The deodorant stick product 1 comprises a holding member 3 and a holder 4 which are shown here separated from each other.

[0100] The retaining member 3 includes a bayonet 6, a retaining structure 9, a retaining surface 30, a first connecting surface 31 and a pair of end portions 40. The bayonet 6 extends from the first connecting surface 31 spaced apart from the retaining surface 30. The end portions 40 extend from each end of the retaining member 3 parallel to the bayonet 6.

[0101] A deodorant stick composition (not shown) can be mounted to the holding member 3, wherein the holding structure 9 is embedded in the deodorant stick composition and the deodorant stick composition extends from the holding surface 30. The holding structure 9 includes a plurality of bridge structures 18 extending away from the first connecting surface 31. The plurality of bridge structures 18 are adapted to enhance the holding force of the deodorant stick composition to the holding member.

[0102] The holder 4 includes an upper element 4A and a lower element 4B. The upper element 4A includes a second connection surface 32 and a socket 7 located on the second connection surface 32. The lower element 4B is adapted to receive and hold the upper element 4A. Usually, the upper element 4A and the lower element 4B are molded separately and then assembled together.

[0103] Reference now Figure 2 , showing the holding structure 9 of the holding member 3 in more detail. In this embodiment of the invention, the holding structure 9 includes four bridge structures 18. Each bridge structure 18 forms a bridge extending from one side of the holding member 3 to the other side substantially parallel to the minor axis of the holding member 3. In other embodiments, the plurality of bridge structures may be any suitable number of bridge structures.

[0104] The retaining structure 9 further comprises a plurality of holes 19 separating the bridge structures and extending from the retaining surface 30 through the retaining member to the first connecting surface 31 .

[0105] During the manufacturing process, the melted deodorant stick composition passes through the holes 19 and surrounds the bridge structure 18. When the melted composition is cooled and solidified, the bridge structure 18 is embedded therein. This greatly enhances the holding force of the deodorant stick composition by the holding structure 9, reducing the possibility of the composition breaking or shearing during use.

[0106] Reference now Figure 3A and 3B , the bayonet 6, the end 40 and the bracket 7 are shown in more detail. Figure 3A, a cross section of the bayonet 6 and the end 40 is provided. In this embodiment, the bayonet 6 comprises a pair of flanges 6a, 6b, wherein each flange extends parallel to each other from the first connecting surface 31 of the retaining member 3.

[0107] Each flange 6a, 6b comprises a protrusion 10 extending outwardly from the bayonet member 6. Each protrusion 10 comprises an outer edge 20, wherein the distance between the outer edges 20 of each protrusion 10 is shown as X.

[0108] Each end 40 includes a stopper support 42 , and each stopper support 42 includes a stopper 41 .

[0109] exist Figure 3B , a cross section of the second connection surface 32 is shown. The bracket 7 includes a pair of retaining brackets 11 extending inwardly from an opening of the bracket 7. Each retaining bracket 11 includes an inner edge 21, wherein the distance between the inner edges 21 of each retaining bracket 11 is shown as Y. The protrusion 10 and the retaining bracket 11 are adapted so that the distance X is greater than the distance Y (the distances X and Y are also shown in Figure 4 middle).

[0110] The second connection surface 32 also comprises a notch 45 at each end thereof. Each notch 45 is adapted to receive a corresponding stop 41 .

[0111] Reference now Figure 4 , shows a cross-sectional view of the retaining member 3 and the upper element 4A of the holder. Here the projection 10 is shown extending outwardly from the bayonet 6, while the retaining bracket 11 extends inwardly from the opening of the socket 7. It can be seen that in this orientation, the bayonet 6 cannot be fully inserted into the socket 7, because the distance X is greater than the distance Y. Or in other words, the retaining bracket 11 prevents the projection 10 from moving into the socket 7.

[0112] Reference now Figure 5 , the deodorant stick product 1 is shown with the holding member 3 in place ready to be connected to the holder 4. By lowering the holding member 3 to make it contact with the holder 4, the bayonet 6 can be inserted into the bracket 7.

[0113] exist Figure 6 In, it provides Figure 5 A cross-sectional view of a deodorant stick product 1 in the configuration shown. It can be seen that in this orientation, when the bayonet 6 is in the first position in which the protrusion 10 is not engaged with the holder 11, the relative position of the holder 7 and the holder 11 allows the bayonet 6 to be fully inserted into the holder 7.

[0114] Once the bayonet 6 is pressed Figure 6Inserted into the socket 7 in the orientation shown, the protrusion 10 sits lower in the socket 7 than the holder 11. This allows the bayonet 6 to rotate from the first position to a second position in which the protrusion 10 slides under the holder 11, so that the protrusion 10 engages with the holder 11.

[0115] The rotation may be achieved by rotating the holding member 3 relative to the holder 4 by 90° about its central axis (or vice versa).

[0116] Reference now Figure 7 , the bayonet 6 is in the second position, whereby the retaining member 3 is connected to the retainer 4. In this orientation, the end 40 extends past the end of the second connecting surface 32. This allows the recess 45 to receive the stop 41 (such as Figure 8 shown).

[0117] Reference now Figure 8 , provides Figure 7 A cross-sectional view of a deodorant stick product shown. As shown, the holder 11 overlaps the projection 10, so the projection 10 engages with the holder 11. This means that the bayonet 6 is locked in the holder 7 until the bayonet 6 is rotated back to the first position.

[0118] In order to prevent the bayonet member 6 from accidentally rotating back to the first position, the recess 45 is suitable for receiving the stop member 41 when the bayonet member 6 is in the second position.

[0119] In this document, the maximum diameter of the second connection surface 32 is defined as the maximum possible distance between any two points on the periphery of the second connection surface 32. Also in this document, the minimum distance between the pair of stoppers 41 is defined as the minimum possible distance between a point on one of the pair of stoppers and a point on the other of the pair of stoppers. The pair of stoppers are integrally formed as part of the retaining member, so the minimum distance between them is set by the size and shape of the retaining member.

[0120] The maximum diameter of the second connection surface 32 is adapted to be larger than the minimum distance between the pair of stoppers 41. Therefore, in order to rotate the holding member 3 relative to the retainer 4 so that the bayonet 6 can be rotated from the first position to the second position, each stopper support 42 is as shown in FIG. Fig. 9 The deformation shown allows each bayonet member 41 to move outward (away from the bayonet member 6), thereby increasing the minimum distance between the pair of stop members 41. The outward movement of the stop members 41 allows the bayonet member 6 to rotate completely to the second position.

[0121] The shape of each end 40 is adapted so that a rotational force applied to the retaining member 3 causes the stopper 41 to slidably bear against the second connecting surface 32 and causes the necessary deformation of the stopper support 42 to sufficiently move the stopper 41 outwardly.

[0122] The stop support 42 comprises a resiliently deformable material such that when each stop 41 is aligned with its corresponding notch 45, the stop support 42 returns to its undeformed shape and each notch 45 receives a corresponding stop 41. Figure 7 and Figure 8 In the illustrated configuration, further rotational force is required to deform the stopper support 42 again before the stopper 41 can move outwardly and the bayonet 6 can rotate away from the second position. The end 40 is adapted so that the rotational force required to cause the stopper support 42 to deform is greater than the rotational force normally applied during use of the deodorant stick product 1, but is also easy for the user to intentionally apply in order to connect or disconnect the retaining member 3 from the holder 4. Therefore, during use of the deodorant stick product 1, the retaining member 3 is less likely to be accidentally disconnected from the holder 4.

[0123] Furthermore, the end 40 is adapted so that the stopper support 42 can be elastically deformed to allow the stopper 41 to move, with very little deformation of the entire holding member 3. This is advantageous because when the holding member 3 is connected to the holder, if the holding member 3, especially the holding structure 9, is significantly deformed, the deodorant stick composition embedded in the holding structure 9 may also be deformed. The deodorant stick composition is a waxy structure and is not elastically deformable, so deformation of the composition may cause it to loosen from the holding structure 9. It is very undesirable for the composition to fall off the holding member 3, so it is advantageous to minimize deformation of the entire holding member 3.

[0124] Reference now Fig.10 , the deodorant stick product 1 includes a cap 5. The cap 5 is shown attached to the Figure 7 The holding member 3 and the retainer 4 are shown connected together.

[0125] Fig.10 A cross-sectional view of each of the cover 5, the holding member 3 and the retainer 4 is provided. The retainer 4 includes a boss 12 extending around the periphery of the retainer 4. When such a cover 5 is used, the lower edge of the cover 5 is seated on the boss 12.

[0126] Reference now Fig.11 , provides Fig.10 An exploded view of the deodorant stick product 1 is shown. In particular, the holder 4 is shown in more detail with the upper element 4A separated from the lower element 4B.

[0127] The lid 5 includes a retaining ring 13 extending around its inner surface, while the retaining member 3 includes a small protrusion 8 extending around the periphery of the retaining member 3. The retaining ring 13 is adapted to receive the small protrusion 8 when the lid 5 is slid into place on the retaining member to seat on the boss 12. The protrusion 8 and the retaining ring 13 form a reversible "click-lock" attachment of the lid 5 to the retaining member 4.
