Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention may be included in the technical field of concrete sections for wind turbine towers and more particularly for wind turbine towers in cold climates with ambient temperatures below 5°C. The present invention relates to a kit of concrete sections and a heating device, a concrete section, a wind turbine, a mould and a method of assembling a wind turbine. Background Art

[0002] The goal of wind energy is to generate electricity from the wind using wind turbines with the greatest possible efficiency and at the lowest cost. Said wind turbines basically consist of a tower, a nacelle containing a generator and a rotor comprising at least two blades.

[0003] The tower supports all elements incorporated in the nacelle and transfers all reaction forces generated due to the different aerodynamic effects and operating conditions of the wind turbine to the foundation.

[0004] Typically, given the size of the wind turbine and therefore the size of the tower, the tower is manufactured using modular sections of reinforced concrete called precast segments. In order to join these precast segments, filler material must be used, which can consist of a mortar (also called mortar) or resin deposited therein.

[0005] From now on, the invention will be explained with reference to the use of mortar as filler, although, as mentioned, it may be a resin or another material.

[0006] During the assembly of concrete towers at low temperatures, before pouring the mortar, it is necessary to ensure minimum temperature conditions (at least 5°C) both for the precast sections and for the mortar, including the temperature of the mortar poured into the vertical and horizontal joints, to ensure sufficient curing so that the mortar can develop all its mechanical properties (resistance).

[0007] When these components are manufactured at cryogenic temperatures, where the temperature can drop to -20°C, to ensure correct structural performance of the tower it is necessary to have a heating system that allows the temperature in both the precast sections and the mortar poured into the joints to be maintained above 5°C.

[0008] Pouring mortar at ambient temperatures below 0°C is always a rather demanding factor. This is due to the reality that concrete requires a certain temperature for the cement to hydrate and acquire resistance. In addition, because it contains water, when it starts to solidify, the free-flowing water freezes, increasing its volume, with the attendant risk of cracking.

[0009] In the case of concrete tower assembly at low temperatures, the volume of the mortar is insufficient to ensure that the water does not freeze, since it is completely surrounded by the larger mass of precast concrete at ambient temperature.

[0010] Under low temperature conditions (below 5°C), in addition to ensuring the mechanical properties of the mortar, it is also necessary to ensure perfect filling of the joints between the precast sections that make up the tower.

[0011] To this end, in the case of vertical joints, it must be possible to pump said mortar to a height of 20 m and not to segregate when pouring in free fall from a height of 20 m. The constraints are even greater for horizontal joints, since in this case the pouring of the mortar must be guaranteed at a height of more than 100 m. According to their technical data sheets, all mortars require a temperature of at least +5°C in the supports (in the case of towers for wind turbines, these are precast sections) to guarantee correct curing. Below 5°C, the manufacturer does not guarantee the necessary minimum resistance.

[0012] Traditionally, in the closest prior art, foundations are made at -20°C using concrete with a high cement content so that it has a high heat of hydration and heats up quickly enough to avoid freezing. Usually, the footings are covered with a thermal blanket so as not to lose too much heat and in this way keep the temperature at the desired value.

[0013] The problem with using thermal blankets is that they need to adhere well to the surface to be heated. If the blanket does not adhere well, heating of the surface is slow and uneven.

[0014] Another possibility of heating consists in using fans with electrical resistances directed towards the joint (cylindrical ducts with directional air outlet nozzles). Some of the problems arising from this solution are that a large number of fans are required, so that a large number of generators are required to supply energy to the fans, and the need to guarantee a certain degree of continuous system operation, since stopping will result in a rapid loss of the thermal conditions previously generated.

[0015] Other alternatives considered in preheating are the use of infrared lamps. As far as heating is concerned, market solutions have not achieved effective results.

[0016] The current technology used for pouring mortars has four significant disadvantages, one of which highlights the problem of cracking due to freezing of the water present, quality problems in the formation of joints, filling problems (especially in horizontal joints at heights far from the ground), problems with the resistance capacity of the mortar when the temperatures reached are lower than 5°C, assembly problems related to time and the devices adopted (pumping difficulties, heating of the medium near the mortar deposition, etc.), and the need to use special mortars with a high cement content, which increases the cost of the tower.

[0017] Heating systems known in the art and designed to thermally condition materials in order to solve the above-mentioned problems present high consumption due to low thermal efficiency. Summary of the invention
