[0053] Embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0054] Reference Figure 1 , shows a side view of a two-wheeled vehicle 10 according to an embodiment of the present invention. The vehicle 10 particularly includes a front fork 12, a head pipe 14, a front fender 16, a front wheel 18, a headlight 20, a steering handlebar 22, a fuel tank 24, an engine unit 26, a rear wheel 28, a rear fender 30, a taillight 32, a seat 34, a tool box 36, a frame 38 and an exhaust muffler 100. It may be noted that the vehicle 10 is shown to include the above-mentioned components, however, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the vehicle 10 includes other components that may not be relevant to the description of the present invention and therefore are not shown and described.

[0055] Reference Figure 2, shows a schematic diagram of a two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 constructed according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 includes an outer wall 102, a first end wall 104, and a second end wall 106. The outer wall 102, the first end wall 104, and the second end wall 106 define an internal space of the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100. In addition, at least a first divider 108 is located between the first end wall 104 and the second end wall 106, thereby dividing the internal space into at least a first chamber 110 and a second chamber 112.

[0056] The two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 includes an inlet pipe 114 for introducing exhaust gas from the engine unit 26 of the vehicle 10 into the first chamber 110. In addition, an outlet pipe 116 is provided in the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 for discharging exhaust gas from the second chamber 112 into the environment. In addition, the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 includes at least a first inter-chamber communication pipe 118 for transferring a first portion of the exhaust gas from the first chamber 110 to the second chamber 112. In an embodiment of the present invention, an orifice portion 120 is provided in the first divider 108 for transferring a second portion of the exhaust gas from the first chamber 110 to the second chamber 112.

[0057] In another embodiment of the present invention, a first portion of the exhaust gas from the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 is mixed with a second portion of the exhaust gas from the orifice portion 120 provided in the first divider 108 in a mixing zone 122. In an embodiment of the present invention, the position of the mixing zone 122 varies within the internal space of the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100. As a non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 is located between the inlet duct 114 and the inlet portion 124 of the outlet duct 116. As another non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 is located within the second chamber 112 and is defined between the orifice portion 120 and the inlet portion 124 of the outlet duct 116.

[0058] Turning now to the position of the outlet conduit 116, as a non-limiting example, the inlet portion 124 of the outlet conduit 116 is positioned relative to the outlet portion 128 of the first inter-chamber communication conduit 118 such that the first portion of the exhaust gas takes a tortuous path 130 between the inlet portion 124 of the outlet conduit 116 and the outlet portion 128 of the first inter-chamber communication conduit 118. In another embodiment of the present invention, the tortuous path 130 includes at least one bend.

[0059] Turning now to the configuration of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118, in an embodiment of the present invention, the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 includes an inlet portion 132 located at a proximal portion and an outlet portion 128 located at approximately a distal portion. As a non-limiting example, the outlet portion 128 allows exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. For example, the distal portion of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 can be opened and used as the outlet portion 128.

[0060] Although not shown, as another non-limiting example, the exhaust portion 128 allows exhaust gas to be exhausted in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. For example, the circumferential wall of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 near the distal end portion may include at least one perforated portion serving as the exhaust portion 128.

[0061] about Figure 2 As shown in the function of the exhaust muffler 100, in the embodiment of the present invention, the exhaust gas undergoes expansion in the first chamber 110 before reaching the inlet portion 132 of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 and the orifice portion 120 in the first divider 108. In the embodiment of the present invention, since the exhaust gas undergoes expansion in the first chamber 110 and only the first part of the exhaust gas is transported by the inter-chamber communication duct 118, a first-order noise damping effect is obtained in the first chamber 110. The first part of the exhaust gas undergoes expansion and compression when reaching the second chamber 112 before reaching the inlet portion 124 of the outlet duct 116. Therefore, a second-order noise damping effect is obtained in the second chamber 112.

[0062] Now, after the second-stage noise damping effect is achieved, at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of wavelength, loudness, and speed of the sound waves generated by the exhaust gas is changed. The change in at least one characteristic of the sound waves generated by the exhaust gas is believed to be caused by the mixing of the first part of the exhaust gas with the second part of the exhaust gas in the mixing zone 122. Therefore, the characteristics of the sound waves generated by the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler can be controlled by the nature of the mixing of the first part of the exhaust gas with the second part of the exhaust gas in the mixing zone 122 and the position of the mixing zone 122.

[0063] The nature of the mixing of the first portion of the exhaust gas with the second portion of the exhaust gas can be controlled by controlling the size and shape of the orifice 120 disposed in the first divider 108. As a non-limiting example, the size of the orifice 120 disposed in the first divider 108 is in the range of 25% to 47% of the size of the inlet port 124 of the outlet pipe 116. As another non-limiting example, the orifice 120 disposed in the first divider 108 can have a shape selected from a circular shape, an oval shape, a square shape, a pentagonal shape, a hexagonal shape, a heptagonal shape, an octagonal shape, a nonadecagonal shape, a decagonal shape, and the like.

[0064] Turning now to the position of the mixing zone 122, as a non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 can be located within a predetermined distance L from the entrance portion 124 of the outlet pipe 116. As another non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 can be located within a predetermined radial distance R from the axis 126 of the outlet pipe 116. As another non-limiting example, the position of the mixing zone 122 can be easily controlled by controlling the position of the orifice 120 formed in the first divider 108. As a non-limiting example, the orifice 120 and the entrance portion 124 of the outlet pipe 116 overlap by at least 20%. As another non-limiting example, the orifice 120 and the entrance portion 124 of the outlet pipe 116 overlap each other relative to the axis 126 of the outlet pipe 116. As another non-limiting example, the orifice 120 and the entrance portion 124 of the outlet pipe 116 overlap by at least 20% relative to the axis 126 of the outlet pipe 116.

[0065] Now refer to Figure 8, a graph showing the change of the exhaust gas pressure discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the first embodiment of the present invention over time and the change of the exhaust gas pressure discharged from the exhaust muffler without the orifice portion in the first divider over time. In particular, it can be seen that the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without the orifice portion in the first divider has a pressure change as shown in the first curve 202, while the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the first embodiment of the present invention has a pressure change as shown in the second curve 204. The peak in the second curve 204 is higher than the peak in the first curve 202, and therefore, the amplitude of the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the first embodiment of the present invention is higher than the amplitude of the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without the orifice portion in the divider. In addition, the frequency of the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the first embodiment of the present invention is different from the frequency of the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without the orifice portion in the divider. Therefore, compared with the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without the orifice portion in the divider, the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the first embodiment of the present invention has a roaring effect.

[0066] Reference Figure 3 , shows a two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 constructed according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The construction of the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 according to the second embodiment is substantially similar to that of the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 according to the first embodiment, except for the construction of the outlet pipe 116 for removing the exhaust gas from the second chamber 112. Therefore, the construction of the two-chamber exhaust muffler according to the first embodiment (such as Figure 2 and as described above) and the structure of the two-chamber exhaust muffler according to the second embodiment (as Figure 3 The difference between

[0067] In the two-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 according to the first embodiment, although the outlet pipe 116 for removing the exhaust gas from the second chamber 112 is solid, the outlet pipe 116 for removing the exhaust gas from the second chamber 112 according to the second embodiment is partially perforated. In particular, a portion of the outlet pipe 116 located in the second chamber 112 includes a perforated portion 134.

[0068] Although in Figure 2 In the exhaust muffler shown and described above in the first embodiment, a first portion of the exhaust gas from the entire inter-chamber communication conduit 118 reaches the mixing zone 122, but Figure 3In the exhaust muffler shown, the first part of the exhaust gas from the inter-chamber communication duct 118 does not reach the mixing zone 122 in its entirety. Instead, only a sub-portion of the first part of the exhaust gas from the inter-chamber communication duct 118, hereinafter referred to as the third part of the exhaust gas, reaches the mixing zone 122, and the remaining sub-portion, hereinafter referred to as the fourth part, avoids the mixing zone 122 and directly enters the outlet duct 116 via the perforated portion 134 provided on the outlet duct 116. Therefore, according to the second embodiment, in the mixing zone 122, the second part of the exhaust gas is mixed with the third part of the exhaust gas and enters the outlet duct 116 via the entry portion 124. The fourth part of the exhaust gas is then mixed in the outlet duct 116 (with the second and third parts of the exhaust gas). Due to the above reasons, an increase in exhaust noise is observed compared to the first embodiment. In addition, the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the second embodiment of the present invention has a roaring effect compared to the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without an orifice portion in the divider.

[0069] Reference Figure 4 , shows a schematic diagram of a three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 constructed according to a third embodiment of the present invention. The three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 includes an outer wall 102, a first end wall 104, and a second end wall 106. The outer wall 102, the first end wall 104, and the second end wall 106 interact with each other to form an internal space. The three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 includes a first divider 108 and a second divider 136, which are located between the first end wall 104 and the second end wall 106 to divide the internal space into a first chamber 110, a second chamber 112, and a third chamber 138.

[0070] In addition, the three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 includes an inlet pipe 114 for introducing exhaust gas into the first chamber 110 and an outlet pipe 116 for removing exhaust gas from the second chamber 112. The three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 includes a first inter-chamber communication pipe 118 that transmits a first portion of the exhaust gas from the first chamber 110 to the third chamber 138. In an embodiment of the present invention, the first inter-chamber communication pipe 118 passes through the first divider 108 and the second divider 136. The three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 includes a second inter-chamber communication pipe 140 that transmits a first portion of the exhaust gas from the third chamber 138 to the second chamber 112.

[0071] Furthermore, the first divider 108 is provided with an orifice portion 120 for conveying a second portion of the exhaust gas from the first chamber 110 to the second chamber 112 .

[0072] In another embodiment of the present invention, a first portion of the exhaust gas from the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 is mixed with a second portion of the exhaust gas from the orifice portion 120 provided in the first divider 108 in the mixing zone 122. In an embodiment of the present invention, the position of the mixing zone 122 varies within the internal space of the three-chamber exhaust muffler 100. As a non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 is located between the inlet duct 114 and the entrance portion 124 of the outlet duct 116. As another non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 is located within the second chamber 112 and is defined between the orifice portion 120 and the entrance portion 124 of the outlet duct 116.

[0073] Turning now to the construction of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118, in an embodiment of the present invention, the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 includes an inlet portion 132 located at a proximal portion and an outlet portion 128 located approximately at a distal portion. As a non-limiting example, the outlet portion 128 allows exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. For example, the distal portion of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 can be opened and used as the outlet portion 128. Although not shown, as another non-limiting example, the outlet portion 128 allows exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. For example, the circumferential wall of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 near the distal portion may include at least one perforated portion used as the outlet portion 128.

[0074] Turning now to the configuration of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140, in an embodiment of the present invention, the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 includes an inlet portion 142 located at a distal portion and an outlet portion 144 located approximately at a proximal portion. As a non-limiting example, the outlet portion 144 allows a first portion of the exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140. For example, the distal portion of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 may be opened and used as the outlet portion 144. Although not shown, as another non-limiting example, the outlet portion 144 of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 allows a first portion of the exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140. For example, the circumferential wall of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 near the proximal portion may include at least one perforated portion used as the outlet portion 144.

[0075] In an embodiment of the present invention, the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 includes an inlet portion 142, which is positioned relative to the outlet portion 128 of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 so that the first portion of the exhaust gas takes a first tortuous path 130 between the inlet portion 142 and the outlet portion 128 of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. In an embodiment of the present invention, the first tortuous path 130 includes at least one bend. In an embodiment of the present invention, the inlet portion 124 of the outlet duct 116 is positioned relative to the outlet portion 144 of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 so that the first portion of the exhaust gas takes a second tortuous path 146 between the inlet portion 124 of the outlet duct 116 and the outlet portion 144 of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140. In an embodiment of the present invention, the second tortuous path 146 includes at least one bend.

[0076] about Figure 4 The function of the exhaust muffler 100 shown, in the embodiment of the present invention, the exhaust gas undergoes expansion in the first chamber 110 before reaching the inlet portion 132 of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 and the orifice portion 120 in the first divider 108. In the embodiment of the present invention, since the exhaust gas undergoes expansion in the first chamber 110, and only the first part of the exhaust gas is transported by the first inter-chamber communication duct 118, a first-order noise damping effect is obtained in the first chamber 110. The first part of the exhaust gas undergoes expansion and compression when reaching the third chamber 138 before reaching the inlet portion 142 of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140. Therefore, a second-order noise damping effect is obtained in the third chamber 138. The first part of the exhaust gas undergoes expansion and compression when reaching the second chamber 112 before reaching the inlet portion 124 of the outlet duct 116. Therefore, a third-order noise damping effect is obtained in the second chamber 112.

[0077] Now, after the third level noise damping effect is achieved, at least one characteristic selected from the wavelength, loudness, and speed of the sound waves generated by the exhaust gas is changed.

[0078] The nature of the mixing of the first portion of the exhaust gas with the second portion of the exhaust gas can be controlled by controlling the size and shape of the orifice 120 disposed in the first divider 108. As a non-limiting example, the size of the orifice 120 disposed in the first divider 108 is in the range of 25% to 47% of the size of the inlet port 124 of the outlet pipe 116. As another non-limiting example, the orifice 120 disposed in the first divider 108 can have a shape selected from a circular shape, an elliptical shape, a square shape, a pentagonal shape, a hexagonal shape, a heptagonal shape, an octagonal shape, a nonadecanagonal shape, a decagonal shape, and the like.

[0079] Turning now to the position of the mixing zone 122, as a non-limiting example, the mixing zone 122 can be located within a predetermined distance L from the entrance portion 124 of the outlet pipe 116.

[0080] Although no similar Figure 8 is a graph for exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the third embodiment, but it can be noted that the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the third embodiment also has a roaring effect compared with the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without an orifice portion in the divider.

[0081] Reference Figure 5 , shows a schematic diagram of a three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 constructed according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention. The construction of the three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 according to the fourth embodiment is substantially similar to the construction of the three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 according to the third embodiment, except for the construction of the outlet pipe 116 for removing the exhaust gas from the second chamber 112. Therefore, the construction of the three-chamber exhaust muffler according to the third embodiment will be described in detail below (eg Figure 4 and as described above) and the structure of the three-chamber exhaust muffler according to the fourth embodiment (as shown in Figure 5 The difference between

[0082] Although the outlet pipe 116 for removing the exhaust gas from the second chamber 112 is solid in the three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 according to the third embodiment, the outlet pipe 116 for removing the exhaust gas from the second chamber 112 according to the fourth embodiment is partially perforated. In particular, a portion of the outlet pipe 116 located in the third chamber 138 includes the perforated portion 134. Figure 2 In the exhaust muffler shown and described above in the first embodiment, the first portion of the exhaust gas from the first inter-chamber communication conduit 118 all reaches the mixing zone 122, but Figure 5 In the exhaust duct shown, the first portion of the exhaust gas from the first inter-chamber communicating duct 118 does not all reach the mixing zone 122. Instead, only a sub-portion of the first portion of the exhaust gas from the first inter-chamber communicating duct 118, hereinafter referred to as the third portion of the exhaust gas, reaches the mixing zone 122, and the remaining sub-portion, hereinafter referred to as the fourth portion, avoids the mixing zone 122 and directly enters the outlet duct 116 via the perforated portion 134 provided on the outlet duct 116. Therefore, according to the second embodiment, in the mixing zone 122, the second portion of the exhaust gas is mixed with the third portion of the exhaust gas and enters the outlet duct 116 via the entry portion 124. The fourth portion of the exhaust gas is then mixed in the outlet duct 116 (with the second and third portions of the exhaust gas). Due to the above reasons, an increase in exhaust noise (roaring effect) is observed compared to the third embodiment. Although in Figure 5 In FIG. 1 , the perforations in the outlet conduit 116 are shown as being located in the third chamber, but in an alternative embodiment (not shown), the perforations 134 in the outlet conduit 116 may be located in the second chamber.

[0083] Although no similar Figure 8 is a graph for exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the fourth embodiment, but it can be noted that the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the fourth embodiment also has a roaring effect compared with the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler without an orifice portion in the divider.

[0084] Therefore, considering Figures 2 to 5In the embodiment shown, it can be said that the present invention provides an exhaust duct structure for an internal combustion engine used in a vehicle, the exhaust duct comprising: an outer wall, a first end wall and a second end wall, the outer wall, the first end wall and the second end wall cooperating to define an internal space; at least one separator, the separator is located between the first end wall and the second end wall, the separator divides the internal space into at least a first chamber and a second chamber; an inlet duct for introducing exhaust gas into the first chamber; an outlet duct for removing exhaust gas from the second chamber; at least one inter-chamber communication duct, the inter-chamber communication duct passes through at least one separator for conveying a first portion of exhaust gas from the first chamber to the second chamber; and an orifice portion provided in the separator located between the first chamber and the second chamber for conveying a second portion of exhaust gas from the first chamber to the second chamber. In an embodiment of the present invention, the outlet duct comprises a perforated portion.

[0085] Reference Figure 6 , shows a two-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 for a vehicle 10 according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention. Figure 6 The structure of the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. Figure 3 The structure of the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 is basically similar, but there are the following differences. Figure 3 In the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 , the first separator (108) is provided with an orifice portion 120, but Figure 6 In the two-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 , the first partition 108 does not have the orifice portion 120. Therefore, all exhaust gas travels from the first chamber 110 to the second chamber 1120 via the first inter-chamber communication pipe 118. Figure 6 In the two-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 , the mixing zone 120 is not formed.

[0086] In addition, Figure 3 In the two-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 shown, the first discharge portion 128 forming a part of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 allows the first part of the exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 or in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. Figure 6 In the illustrated two-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 , the first discharge portion 128 forming a part of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 allows the exhaust gas to be discharged only in a direction parallel to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 .

[0087] Although no similar Figure 8 3 is a graph for exhaust gas exhausted from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the fifth embodiment, but it can be noted that the exhaust gas exhausted from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the fifth embodiment also has a roaring effect.

[0088] Reference Figure 7 , shows a three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 of a vehicle 10 according to a sixth embodiment of the present invention. Figure 7 The structure of the three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in Figure 5 The three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 is basically similar in structure, but has the following differences. Figure 5 In the three-chamber exhaust muffler (100) shown in FIG. 1 , the first separator (108) is provided with an orifice portion 120, but Figure 7 In the three-chamber exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 , the first partition 108 does not have the orifice portion 120. Therefore, all exhaust gas travels from the first chamber 110 to the third chamber 138 via the first inter-chamber communication pipe 118. Figure 7 In the three-chamber type exhaust muffler (100) shown in FIG. 1 , no mixing zone 120 is formed in the second chamber (112).

[0089] In addition, Figure 5 In the three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG, the first discharge portion 128 forming a part of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 allows the first part of the exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 or in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. However, in Figure 7 In the three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 , the first discharge portion 128 forming a part of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118 allows the exhaust gas to be discharged only in a direction parallel to the axis of the first inter-chamber communication duct 118. Figure 5 The second discharge portion 144 of a portion of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 shown in FIG. 1 allows the third portion of the exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 or in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140. However, in Figure 7 In the three-chamber type exhaust muffler 100 shown in FIG. 1 , the second discharge portion 144 forming a part of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 allows only the third part of the exhaust gas to be discharged in a direction parallel to the axis of the second inter-chamber communication duct 140 .

[0090] Although no similar Figure 8 , but it can be noted that the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust muffler constructed according to the sixth embodiment also has a roaring effect.

[0091] An advantage of the present invention is that the exhaust muffler increases the exhaust noise, thereby providing a unique sound effect. In particular, the exhaust muffler produces a roaring sound effect. Another advantage of the present invention is that the exhaust muffler does not significantly affect the performance of the engine. Another advantage of the present invention is that the size of the exhaust muffler is not increased to produce the roaring sound effect. Another advantage of the present invention is that no additional parts are used to construct the exhaust muffler. Another advantage of the present invention is that the time required to manufacture the exhaust muffler is relatively short. Another advantage of the present invention is that the cost of manufacturing the exhaust muffler is relatively low.
