A sound attenuating duct unit suitable for connection to an outlet of a gas turbine and an improved heat recovery apparatus for use with such a turbine are disclosed. The former unit includes a duct housing having exterior sides, an air inlet at one end and first and second air outlets. Interior walls define a main airflow passageway extending from the air inlet to both of the outlets. Sound absorbing and heat insulation material is arranged between these walls and the exterior sides. Sound attenuating members are mounted in the passageway and a diverter damper is mounted in the housing and is able to direct air flow to either one of the air outlets. The sound attenuating members are mounted between the diverter damper and the air inlet. The heat recovery apparatus includes a series of aerodynamic diffusers mounted in a housing adjacent an air flow inlet connectable to the gas turbine.

A method and system for custom building a toy vehicle inside a store. A child makes design choices at a computer terminal inside the store that employs design software relating to a design of a toy car, the design software permitting design choices that trigger an ordering of components and an assembly of the toy car that simulates a real car assembly, the assembly commencing while the child interacts with the software and being completed within approximately a half hour of a first design choice. The assembly line located inside the store allows the child to dramatically see assembly of components and permits participating in the assembly by moving assembly objects to make design choices at component installation points. Design choices include style, model, color, front and rear ends, lights, doors, hood, height, wheels, engine, muffler, interior, spoiler, name and logo, and attachments.

An auxiliary dust collection system can be interposed between a sander or other dust producing tool and a vacuum source, e.g., shop vacuum. This auxiliary system has a cyclonic separator connected by a flexible hose to the tool and by another hose to the vacuum source. The cone of the separator is mounted onto the lid of a drum into which the dust precipitates. For a tool that has its own blower, the vacuum source can be omitted, and the air leaving the outlet duct of the separator can be filtered and returned to the ambient. A drop in silencer formed of a sleeve or tube of acoustic foam can be positioned into the inlet side of a filter cartridge following a cyclonic separator. The silencer absorbs a significant fraction of the process noise.

In addition, the internal surfaces of the muffler may be coated with a catalyst to provide a combination muffler and catalytic converter.

The exhaust sound and emission control system is a system for reducing sound and noxious emissions from an automotive exhaust. The system may have an exhaust resonator having one or more catalytic converter elements in combination therewith in a single device. Alternatively, the system may have multiple angularly disposed chambers therein, with a series of V-shaped baffles or guides in one of the chambers, thereby combining resonator and muffler functions in a single device. In another alternative, the system has a series of longitudinal tubes therein, in combination with a series of V-shaped guides or vanes, combining catalytic converter, muffler, and resonator functions in a single device. The exhaust heat recovery muffler includes a muffler unit having the outer surface thereof covered, an exhaust heat recovery unit disposed integrally with the muffler unit, and a switching valve that switches the flow of exhaust gas into the muffler unit and into the exhaust heat recovery unit. An outer pipe of the muffler unit and a cylindrical shell of the exhaust heat recovery unit, covering the outer circumference of the outer pipe, are coaxially disposed. The exhaust heat recovery unit includes a heat exchange chamber, formed by a pair of partitions provided between the inner circumference of the shell and the outer circumference of the outer pipe, and small-diameter pipes penetrating through the pair of partitions and extending through the heat exchange chamber. A silencer for a CPAP device comprises a housing assembly defining a flow path passing therethrough and including at least one of an inlet chamber, an acoustic chamber and a blower chamber. Each of the chambers has an inlet and an outlet for fluid communication therebetween. The silencer includes a combination of reactive components, resonators and dissipative elements disposed within the inlet, acoustic and blower chambers. The reactive component may be configured as a compliant-walled reactive tube. The resonator may be configured as a perforated plate defining a cavity volume. The dissipative element may comprise porous material substantially occupying the cavity volume bounded by the perforated plate in the chamber walls.

A silencer is disclosed that includes a housing having a flat enclosing shape and having formed therein a passage for silencing; and pores, being formed at the housing so as to be communicatively connected with the passage, into which a sound wave to be noise is introduced. The pores, being formed close to the periphery of the housing, are configured so that the sound wave travels in the planar direction of the housing.

The present invention is a system and method to significantly reduce noise associated with air-moving devices such as an axial flow fan using a fan shroud and barrel combination with built in silencers such as Helmholtz resonators. The invention can be applied to a variety of applications such as a thermal management system for a fuel cell powered vehicle. The resonator can be a hollow cavity in networks attached to an outer or inner barrel or shroud and tuned to reduce noise at predetermined noise frequency ranges within the airflow. The invention can also attach stator members on the inner surface of the outer barrel to further reduce noise. Additional sound absorbing material, such as steel wool, can be disposed within the resonator cavity.

A muffler for a steam cleaning apparatus comprising a housing having a first and a second inlet, and an outlet, a plurality of baffles disposed within, and coupled to the housing, wherein the plurality of baffles are covered with a foam; wherein the first inlet is pneumatically coupled to an air pump of the steam cleaning apparatus, and wherein the first inlet provides to the housing a stream of humid air from an application subsystem of the steam cleaning apparatus; and wherein the second inlet receives combustion exhaust from a combustion motor that drives an air pump that is operationally coupled to the application subsystem, and wherein the outlet releases air comprising combustion exhaust of the motor.

A flow generator and humidifier construction is described, including a flow generator construction adapted to reduce noise output compared to known flow generators of comparable size. This invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art by providing a power generating system particularly suitable for field use in remote locations, which is fuel-efficient, relatively quiet, tolerant of dust, capable of operating on low grade logistics and diesel-like fuels and capable of generating between 500 W and 2 KW of continuous electrical power. This generator employs a miniature internal combustion engine/generator (MICE) having a piston moving within a cylinder arranged for two-cycle operation, and an interconnected, axially arranged piston shaft that oscillates an alternator coil within a magnetic core. The piston shaft is opposed by a strong, multiple-helix spring. The cylinder head, in which the piston operates, is cooled by moving (electrically pumped) fluid in a cooling head, or by another heat-transfer mechanism. The MICE generator's intake arrangement includes a preheater heated by a heated fluid flow thereon. The MICE generator is vibration-isolated using a base that supports the MICE on a plurality of soft coil springs. The MICE generator is encased in an acoustic enclosure having a shell composed of sheet metal or another stiff material extending from the base plate and being covered by a top side. Holes in the enclosure top are covered by porous discs that allow exhaust gasses from the internal muffler to pass therethrough. The acoustic enclosure resides in a large, typically portable, external package enclosure.

A blower noise silencer comprises both an air turbulence stage and a noise absorption stage. The air turbulence stage includes a tubular screen enclosing a spiral vane wrapping around a central bore running through the air turbulence stage. The screen is surrounded by a hollow chamber. The noise absorption stage includes a hollow tubular screen surrounded by a chamber packed with sound dampening material. Each chamber in the silencer is closed other than through the screen that it surrounds whereas the screens open at one another and to opposite ends of the silencer to provide air flow movement into and out of the silencer.
