[0042] Referring generally to the drawings, a laser level, such as a point-line-surface laser level, is provided. As will be generally understood, a laser level system comprising a laser emitter and a laser target is used to align objects or features in an area (e.g., such as holes along walls, pipes, ducts, etc.).
[0043] In various embodiments, the laser level described herein is configured to be precisely adjusted along two or more different axes. In one embodiment, the laser level includes a housing that emits one or more planar light beams. The laser transmitter is coupled to a platform that is pivotally coupled to the housing. The platform is configured to be adjusted along multiple axes via two or more motors that cooperatively rotate the platform relative to the housing. Applicants have observed that the internal configuration described herein provides a more compact structure to provide a self-leveling laser level compared to other laser level internal configurations. In various embodiments, at least two motors rotate the platform via such that each motor affects the orientation of the platform coupled to the laser transmitter relative to more than one axis, which contrasts with a laser level in which each motor is responsible for adjusting a single axis.
[0044] refer to Figures 1 to 4 , a laser emitter and / or laser beam generating device is shown, which is shown as a laser level 110. The laser level 110 includes a housing 120, an arm 121 pivotally coupled to the housing 120, a platform 122 coupled to the arm 121 (e.g., rigidly coupled to the arm 121), a first light generator coupled to the platform 122 (shown as a laser emitter 112, which is operable to generate an output beam 113 along a plane 114), and a second laser generator coupled to the platform 122 (shown as a laser emitter 116, which is operable to generate an output beam 117 along a plane 118). In various embodiments, the plane 114 is perpendicular to the plane 118.
[0045] The laser level 110 includes one or more orientation measurement devices, which are shown as electronic bubble tubes. In various embodiments, the laser level 110 includes an electronic bubble tube 192, an electronic bubble tube 194, and an electronic bubble tube 196. The laser level 110 receives signals from the electronic bubble tube 192, the electronic bubble tube 194, and / or the electronic bubble tube 196, and the laser level 110 directs the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116 to the target orientation based on these signals.
[0046] refer to Figure 2, the laser level 110 includes a motor 186 that adjusts the orientation of the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116. In particular, the motor 186 applies a force along an axis 187 on the platform 122 coupled to the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116. In various embodiments, the axis 183 is different from the axis 187 (e.g., the axis 183 and the axis 187 are not aligned). In various embodiments, the axis 183 and the axis 187 are parallel to each other. As will be explained, the motor 186 applies a force along the axis 187 (e.g., in the direction 188) to rotate the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116 relative to the housing 120.
[0047] refer to Figure 3 , the laser level 110 is configured to rotate the platform 122, the laser emitter 112, and the laser emitter 116 along one or more axes. In particular, the laser level 110 is configured to rotate the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 150, the rotation axis 160, and the rotation axis 170. In various embodiments, the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116 are coupled to the arm 121 via the platform 122, and the arm 121 is pivotally coupled to the housing 120. Adjustment of the platform 122 and rotation of the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116 also rotate the arm 121 relative to the housing 120.
[0048] The platform 122 is configured to rotate relative to the housing 120 about both the rotation axis 150 and a rotation axis 160 that is different from the rotation axis 150 (e.g., the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 are not aligned with each other). In various embodiments, the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 are not coplanar with respect to each other (e.g., the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 are skewed with respect to each other; in other words, there is no plane that contains each of the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160) and therefore do not intersect.
[0049] refer to Figure 3 to Figure 4 , the laser level 110 includes a motor 182 (e.g., coupled to the housing 120) that adjusts the orientation of the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116. In particular, the motor 182 applies a force along an axis 183 on the platform 122. As will be explained, the motor 182 applies a force along the axis 183 (e.g., in a direction 184) to rotate the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116 relative to the housing 120.
[0050] In various embodiments, laser emitter 112 and laser emitter 116 are coupled (e.g., fixedly coupled) to platform 122. Platform 122 is coupled to base 126 (e.g., pivotally coupled to a plate), and base 126 is coupled to arm 121 so that base 126 rotates relative to housing 120 about both rotation axis 150 and rotation axis 160 that is different from rotation axis 150. Motor 182 applies a force on platform 122 via pin 185 of motor 182, which applies a force to pin 134 extending from base 126 ( Figure 4 ).
[0051] In various embodiments, the laser level 110 includes a base 126, a platform 122 is coupled to the arm 121 via the base 126 (e.g., the platform 122 is coupled to the base 126, and the base 126 is coupled to the arm 121), and the base 126 and the platform 122 are collectively configured to rotate relative to the housing 120 about both a rotation axis 150 and a rotation axis 160. The platform 122 rotates relative to the base 126 about a rotation axis 170. In various embodiments, the rotation axis 150 extends parallel to the X-axis in a Cartesian coordinate system, the rotation axis 160 extends parallel to the Y-axis in the (same) Cartesian coordinate system, and the rotation axis 170 extends parallel to the Z-axis in the (same) Cartesian coordinate system. In other words, in various embodiments, rotation axis 150 is perpendicular to rotation axis 160 when viewed along rotation axis 170, rotation axis 150 is perpendicular to rotation axis 170 when viewed along rotation axis 160, and rotation axis 160 is perpendicular to rotation axis 170 when viewed along rotation axis 150. In various embodiments, plane 114 and plane 118 each include the entirety of rotation axis 170 (e.g., rotation axis 170 extends completely within plane 114, and rotation axis 170 extends completely within plane 118).
[0052] refer to Figures 5 and 6, the motor 182 and the motor 186 are configured to cooperatively rotate the laser emitter 112 and the laser emitter 116 relative to the housing 120. In various embodiments, rotating the platform 122, the laser emitter 112, and the laser emitter 116 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 150 includes the motor 182 applying a force on the platform 122 along the axis 183 in a first direction 184, and rotating the platform 122, the laser emitter 112, and the laser emitter 116 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 160 includes the motor 182 applying a force on the platform 122 along the axis 183 in a second direction 179 opposite the first direction 184. In various embodiments, rotating the platform 122, laser emitter 112, and laser emitter 116 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 150 includes the motor 186 applying a force on the platform 122 along the axis 187 in the direction 188, and rotating the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 160 includes the motor 186 applying a force on the platform 122 in the third direction 188 along the axis 187. It should be understood that in order to rotate the platform 122 in directions opposite to those described herein, the motor 182 and the motor 186 will each apply forces along their respective axes 183, 187 in opposite directions.
[0053] In various embodiments, when the laser generation device 110 rotates the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the first rotation axis 150, both the motor 182 and the motor 186 are enabled to exert a force on the platform 122 (e.g., to change the position and / or orientation of the platform 122), and when the laser generation device 110 rotates the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 160, both the motor 182 and the motor 186 are enabled to exert a force on the platform 122 (e.g., to change the position and / or orientation of the platform 122).
[0054] In other words, motor 182 and motor 186 operate in opposite directions (e.g., from Figure 5 1 and 120 (one upward and one downward, from a perspective of FIG. 1 ), apply a force on the platform 122 to rotate the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 150. As will be explained, this is in contrast to how the motors 182 and 186 operate when rotating the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 160.
[0055] Specifically, to rotate laser emitter 112 and laser emitter 116 about rotation axis 160 in direction 162, motor 182 is rotated along axis 183 in direction 179 opposite to direction 184 (e.g., from Figures 5 and 6 188 (from the perspective of FIG. 18A , downward) applies a force on the platform 122, and the motor 186 moves along the axis 187 in a direction 190 opposite to the direction 188 (e.g., from Figures 5 and 6In other words, motor 182 and motor 186 act in the same direction (e.g., from the perspective of Figure 5 The motors 182 and 186 cooperate to rotate the platform 122 relative to the housing 120 about the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160.
[0056] In various embodiments, the laser level 110 is configured to be placed on a surface, such as a floor, in a variety of configurations. For example, (a) the laser level 110 is configured to be placed on the surface such that the plane 114 is perpendicular to gravity, (b) the laser level 110 is configured to be placed on the surface such that the plane 118 is perpendicular to gravity, and (c) the laser level 110 is configured to be placed on the surface such that neither the plane 114 nor the plane 118 is perpendicular to gravity (e.g., the plane 114 and the plane 118 are parallel to gravity).
[0057] refer to Figures 5 and 6 In various embodiments, the first motor 182 and the second motor 186 are coupled to the platform 122 such that the intersection axis 181 intersects each of the first rotation axis 150 and the second rotation axis 160, and the intersection axis 181 is perpendicular to each of the first rotation axis 150 and the second rotation axis 160, and the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 are perpendicular to each other when viewed from a perspective along the intersection axis 181. In other words, the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 define an intersection axis 181 that intersects each of the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 and is perpendicular to each of the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160. In various embodiments, the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 are perpendicular to each other when viewed from a perspective along the intersection axis 181 (e.g., if viewed from Figure 5 181 , and then the user looks back along axis 181 , then rotation axis 150 and rotation axis 160 will appear perpendicular to each other). In various embodiments, axis 181 is parallel to plane 114. In various embodiments, axis 181 is parallel to plane 118. In various embodiments, axis 181 is parallel to both plane 114 and plane 118.
[0058] In other words, the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160 are each located in a plane (eg, a horizontal plane) that is parallel to each other and each perpendicular to the intersection axis 181. For example, the rotation axis 160 is located through Figure 5 The page is projected in a plane at the rotation axis 160, and the rotation axis 150 is located through Figure 6The page of is projected in a plane at the rotation axis 150 . The projection of the rotation axis 150 on the corresponding plane of the rotation axis 160 is perpendicular to the rotation axis 160 , and the projection of the rotation axis 160 on the corresponding plane of the rotation axis 150 is perpendicular to the rotation axis 150 .
[0059] In other words, the intersection axis 181 extends along the shortest possible path between the rotation axis 150 and the rotation axis 160. Further, the intersection axis 181 and the rotation axis 150 define a first plane 198 ( Figure 5 )(For example, by Figure 5 The page of the projection is a vertical plane at the intersection axis 181), and the intersection axis 181 and the rotation axis 160 define a second plane 199 ( Figure 6 )(For example, by Figure 6 The page is projected onto a vertical plane at the intersection axis 181).
[0060] refer to Figures 7 to 9 , the first laser emitter 112 and the second laser emitter 116 are each coupled (e.g., rigidly coupled) to the platform 122. In various embodiments, the platform 122 includes an aperture 124. The laser level 110 includes a motor 174, a first arm 176 coupled to the first motor 174, and a first spring 177 coupled to the first arm 176, and the first spring 177 is received in the aperture 124. To rotate the first laser emitter 112 and the second laser emitter 116 about the rotation axis 170, such as in the direction 172, the motor 174 applies a force on the platform 122.
[0061] The motor 174 exerts a force on the arm 175 along an axis 178 extending from the motor 174 to rotate the platform 122 relative to the base 126 about the rotation axis 170. The arm 175 exerts a force on the arm 176, and the force is transferred into a biasing element, which is shown as a spring 177 engaged within the aperture 124 of the platform 122. The spring 177 is configured to engage with the opposite side of the aperture 124 of the platform 122 to reduce and / or minimize tilt and / or movement of the motor 174 that is not transferred into the movement of the platform 122.
[0062] The base 126 includes a protrusion, shown as an inner spring-loaded ball 136, extending from the base 126 and spring-biased against the platform 122, and one or more protrusions, shown as balls 142, extending from the base 126 and spring-biased against the platform 122. The spring-loaded balls 136 are configured to exert a force on the platform 122 in the direction 140. Due to the force from the spring-loaded balls 136, the platform 122 engages against the outer balls 142. As will be explained, the engagement between the platform 122 and the balls 136 and 142 reduces the amount of movement of the platform 122 in a direction orthogonal to the axis of rotation 170 when the platform 122 rotates about the axis of rotation 170.
[0063] refer to Figure 10 to Figure 11 , various aspects of the platform 122 are shown. In particular, the platform 122 includes a body 132 extending between a coupling 128 and a coupling 130. The first laser emitter 112 is coupled to the coupling 128, and the second laser emitter 116 is coupled to the coupling 130.
[0064] Balls 136 and 142 engage against the surface of platform 122 to reduce and / or minimize Figure 10 to Figure 11 In particular, the balls 136, 142 engage in the recesses 139, 145 and / or 147 to reduce and / or minimize the vertical movement of the platform 122 when the platform 122 rotates around the rotation axis 170.
[0065] The platform 122 includes an inner recessed surface 138 and opposing outer recessed surfaces 144, 146. The inner recessed surface 138 includes a recessed portion 139, such as a centrally located recessed portion, extending along the length of the inner recessed surface 138.
