Description

[0001] The invention relates to a thrusting device, in particular for a drill string, which has a pipe of variable length and a longitudinal extension, which has a first pipe element and a second pipe element which is displaceable in the direction of the longitudinal extension relative to the first pipe element and which is received at least in sections in the first pipe element, wherein at least one electrical line runs from the first pipe element to the second pipe element, which electrical line is connected to the first pipe element and the second pipe element and is wound helically around at least one of the two pipe elements, preferably the second pipe element, in a central section (US 2003 / 070842 A1).

[0002] From US 2018 / 073306 A1 and US 2004 / 150533 A1, drill strings with a pipe of variable length and with pipe elements are also known, wherein an electrical cable runs in the pipe and is wound helically around one of the pipe elements in a central section.

[0003] Jars are well-known components of drilling equipment in the field of drilling technology, particularly in oil, natural gas, and geothermal wells. A jar is a tool used when the drill string has become stuck and can no longer be easily released or moved up or down the borehole. The jar is usually located near the "neutral point" of the drill string, i.e., the area where the drill string experiences neither tensile nor compressive forces during drilling. This area is usually located in the upper part of the "bottom hole assembly" (BHA), i.e., approximately 100 m to 200 m above the drill bit. The jar can, of course, also be located elsewhere and allows an operator on the surface to apply blows to the drill string or bit and to shake the drill string or bit.to release the drill head again. A frequently used design of such a ramming device comprises two parts that can be moved relative to each other in the longitudinal direction of the drill string. The movable part typically includes a hammer that strikes an anvil mounted immovably on the drill string, allowing the part of the drill string clamped in the borehole to be released again by one or more impacts.

[0004] A key element in modern drilling processes, particularly in oil, natural gas, and geothermal drilling, is data acquisition and control of the various modules of the drill string during the drilling operation, when moving in and out of the borehole, or during other treatment work with the drill string in the borehole, as well as, if necessary, the electrical power supply to the modules. For this purpose, one or more cables run along the drill string from the surface to the drill head. In the area of a butting device, however, problems arise with orderly cable routing because the axial change in length of the drill string in the area of the butting device must be compensated for. It has long been known (e.g. US 6 991 035 B2) to wind the cable helically around one of the two pipe elements that can be moved axially relative to one another. The change in length of the drill string can be easily compensated for by the helical winding. However, the transition area between the helically wound section of the cable and the connecting sections on either side is problematic because the cable has a kink or bend with a relatively small radius there, which is subject to high stresses due to repeated operation of the impact device and due to the vibrations that occur during the drilling process.

[0005] The invention is therefore based on the object of improving the fastening of the cable in the impact device.

[0006] This problem is solved by a pushing device having the features of claim 1.

[0007] According to the invention, a helical groove is arranged on at least one pipe section, preferably on both pipe sections, in which a region of the central, helical section of the line lies. Since the line is held in the helical groove essentially in the same position as in the central region, where the helically wound line compensates for the change in length, the line can be connected to one or both pipe elements largely stress-free, thus keeping the subsequent transition area to the connecting section(s) stress-free.

[0008] Although the cable need not be accommodated in the groove near one end of the central section, but rather the helically wound central section could extend beyond the respective groove, it is nevertheless preferred in the invention for the cable to be accommodated in the groove near one end of the central section. The transition region to the connecting section(s) can then be located directly adjacent thereto.

[0009] The cable can be held in the groove by a fastening means, preferably a clamp or sleeve.

[0010] Alternatively, it is also possible in the invention for the line to be fastened to the connecting section on the pipe element, preferably by means of a clamp, whereby this fastening ideally (but not necessarily) takes place immediately after the groove or the end of the helical, central section.

[0011] According to the invention, the helical groove could be attached directly to one or both of the tubular elements. However, it is preferred if the helical groove is arranged on a sleeve that is attached to a tubular element, as this is easier to manufacture.

[0012] It is known from the prior art that the cable is housed in a preferably metallic, elastic sheath, at least in the central section, and optionally also in the adjoining connecting sections. This is also preferred in the impact device according to the invention. According to the invention, in this case, the sheath lies in the groove, whereby all embodiments and advantages described above in connection with the cable also apply to the sheath with the cable housed therein.

[0013] Further preferred embodiments of the invention are the subject of the remaining subclaims.

[0014] Further features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of preferred, non-limiting embodiments of the invention with reference to the accompanying drawings. It shows: Fig. 1 a schematic representation of a drilling rig, Fig. 2 an embodiment of a thrusting device according to the invention in oblique view, partially cut, Fig. 3 a central part of the thrusting device of Fig. 2 in the extended state, Fig. 4 the middle part of the impact device of Fig. 2 in the collapsed state, Fig. 5 a detail of Fig. 2 on a larger scale, Fig. 6 a detail of Fig. 3 on a larger scale, Fig. 7 shows a further detail of the impact device according to the invention on a larger scale, Fig. 8 shows yet another detail of the impact device according to the invention on a larger scale, and Fig. 9 shows the structure of an electrical conductor protected in a partially cut-away sheath.

[0015] The drawings show embodiments of a pushing device according to the invention, which, however, are only examples and, apart from the features according to the invention as defined in the claims, can also be designed differently with regard to many components within the scope of the present invention without this requiring special mention below.

[0016] In Fig. 1 A drilling rig 1 with a drilling tower 2 is schematically shown, with which drill pipes 4 connected to a drill string are driven in rotation via a drive 3, a so-called "top drive," in order to create a borehole 5. It is understood that the design of the drilling rig 1 is merely exemplary and can also be implemented in various other ways known from the prior art.

[0017] The drill pipes 4 are connected to a rod assembly via couplings 6, wherein one or more electrical lines 7 are arranged in the drill pipes 4, which can run within the drill pipes 4, for example, as shown and described in WO 2013 / 126936 A. The couplings 6 enable a galvanic connection of the electrical lines 7 running in the individual drill pipes 4 and can be constructed, for example, as shown and described in WO 2010 / 141969 A. A different route of the electrical lines 7 within the drill pipes and a different structure of the couplings 6 are of course also possible. A galvanic connection of the electrical lines 7 in the region of the couplings 6 is preferred, but not mandatory.

[0018] In the illustrated embodiment, a ramming device 8 according to the invention is provided instead of the lowest drill pipe 4. A drill head 9 or any other tool or element of the drill string is mounted at the lower end of the ramming device. Electrical loads, sensors, modules, or the like (not shown) connected to the electrical lines 7 may be located in the drill head 9 and also on or in some, possibly even all, of the drill pipes 4.

[0019] On the surface, ie above the ground 11 or, for example, a platform of a facility in the sea on which the drilling rig 1 can be arranged, there is a connection 13 for electrical energy and / or a control unit 14 for feeding in and / or receiving control signals or measurement data in a protected area, for example a building 12, a container or the like.

[0020] In Fig. 2 An embodiment of a thrusting device 8 according to the invention is shown partially in section. It essentially consists of a central part 15 with a connecting part 16a, 16b at each of its two ends. In the embodiment shown, the connecting part 16a has a box 6a with a conical internal thread, and the connecting part 16b has a pin 6b with a conical external thread. Each drill pipe 4 also has a corresponding box 6a and a pin 6b, which together form a coupling 6 to which the drill pipes 4, one or more thrusting devices 8, and other technical equipment that can be arranged within the drill string or at its end (e.g. the drill head 9), if required, can be screwed together.

[0021] The central part 15, which forms the functionally active part of the impact device 8, has an upper part 17 and a lower part 18, which are displaceable relative to one another in the installed position. In particular, in the illustrated embodiment, the smaller-diameter upper part 17 is displaceable within the larger-diameter lower part 18.

[0022] The lower part 18 has a casing tube 19 in which a first tubular element 21 and a second tubular element 22 are accommodated so as to be displaceable relative to one another. In the embodiment illustrated in the drawings, the first tubular element 21 has a larger diameter than the second tubular element 22, and the second tubular element 22 is displaceable within the first tubular element 21 in the longitudinal extension of the tubular elements 21, 22 or the impact device 8.

[0023] The upper part 17 is mechanically firmly connected to the second tube element 22. When the upper part 17 is pulled out of the lower part 18, the second tube element 22 is also pulled out of the first tube element 21. Fig. 3 and 5 the position is shown in which the second tubular element 22 is operatively pulled out of the first tubular element 21 as far as possible, and in the Fig. 4 and 6 the position is shown in which the second pipe element 22 is operatively pushed as far as possible into the first pipe element 21.

[0024] The electrical line 7 also runs through the push-in device 8 from the box 6a to the pin 6b. Since the connecting part 16a is rigidly connected to the upper part 17, and the upper part 17 is rigidly connected to the second tubular element 22, the conductor 7 can be substantially stretched in this region and run in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the push-in device 8. The lower part 16b, in turn, is rigidly connected to the first tubular element 21, so that the conductor 7 can also be substantially stretched in this region and run in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the push-in device 8.

[0025] However, a length adjustment of the line 7 is required between the first pipe element 21 and the second pipe element 22, because these two pipe elements 21, 22 are longitudinally displaceable relative to each other. For this purpose, the line 7 is wound helically around the second pipe element 22 in a central section 23, whereby a length adjustment is easily possible due to the windings, as is particularly evident from the Fig. 3 bis 6 show.

[0026] The cable 7 (there may be several cables) is accommodated in the shock device 8 from the box 6a to the pin 6b in a metallic sheath 24 or a metallic tube, by which the cable 7 is protected from harmful environmental influences. Fig. 9 An end section 34 of the middle section 23 of the line 7 is shown with the adjoining section. It can be seen that the line 7 is accommodated in the sheath 24, which is shown partially cut open.

[0027] In order to connect the line 7 or its sheath 24 to the first pipe element 21 and the second pipe element 22, a helical groove 25, 26 is provided on each of the pipe elements 21, 22, in which an end section 34, 35 of the middle section 23 of the line 7 or the sheath 24 is located. This is best illustrated in the Fig. 7 und 8 to recognize.

[0028] A first connecting section 29 and a second connecting section 30 of the line 7 or the sheath 24 are connected to the end sections 34, 35 of the central, helical section 23 of the line 7 or the sheath 24.

[0029] The grooves 25 and 26 could theoretically be formed directly, for example by machining, on the tubular elements 21, 22. In the preferred embodiments shown in the drawings (see in particular Fig. 7 und 8 ), however, the helical grooves are arranged on sleeves 27, 28 that are attached to the tubular elements 21, 22. A combination of embodiments would also be possible, of course, by providing a sleeve 27 or 28 on only one of the two tubular elements 21 or 22.

[0030] The cable 7 or its sheath 24 can be held without any special, further fastening if the grooves 25, 26 are sufficiently deep, the sheath 24 is sufficiently strong and the number of turns is sufficiently large, without the sheath 24 being pulled out of the grooves 25, 26 when the first pipe element 21 and the second pipe element 22 are inserted into the grooves 25, 26. Fig. 3 and 5 shown position can be pulled apart.

[0031] For safety reasons, it is also possible for the sheath 24 to be additionally secured in the grooves 25, 26. This can be achieved by any joining technique, in particular a force-fitting, form-fitting, and / or material-fitting connection, for example, by gluing, or by a clamp or sleeve (not shown in the drawings) that is pushed over the connection area. Stabilization of the sheath 24 by a sheath tube 19 arranged in the critical area above the grooves 25, 26 (at a short distance from the sheath 24), which prevents the sheath 24 from slipping out of the grooves 25, 26, is also possible. This embodiment is shown, for example, in Fig. 8 shown.

[0032] In a particularly preferred embodiment of the impact device according to the invention, the connecting sections 29, 30 are additionally secured by means of clamps 31, 32 after the bent transition region (between the end 34, 35 of the helical central section 23 and the elongated connecting sections 29, 30), which on the one hand provides reliable strain relief for the connecting sections 29, 30 and on the other hand ensures that the sleeve 24 is not pulled out of the grooves 25, 26.

[0033] In the Fig. 7 und 8 an embodiment without terminals 31, 32 is shown.

[0034] Any combination of the measures described above to prevent the conductor 7 or the sheath 24 from being pulled out of the grooves 25, 26 is of course also possible.

[0035] The design of the impact unit 33, i.e., the unit within the impact device 8 that generates the impact or impact when required, will not be described in detail, as it is well known from the prior art. The function of the impact unit 33 is to store the deformation energy (in the case of double-acting impact units, both through tension and compression) of the drill string when a stuck drill string is pulled out of the borehole 5 or pushed into the borehole 5, for example, because the drill head 9 or a part of the drill rod is jammed.

[0036] In the present invention, using the example of a push unit acting only on tension, starting from the Fig. 4 and 6 shown position, the upper part 17 from the lower part 18 and consequently also the second pipe element 22 from the first pipe element 21 into the position shown in the Fig. 3 and 5The second tubular element 22 or a part connected thereto extends into the impact unit 33 and, through the relative movement, builds up a force (in the case of hydraulic impact units, a pressure) which is suddenly released after a certain distance or a certain force (or a certain pressure) has been exceeded, which is also referred to as "firing", so that a hammer, for example, attached to the second tubular element 22 or the part connected thereto, strikes an anvil, for example, attached in the impact unit 33, with great force and, through this impact, releases the stuck component of the drill string. If a first impact is not sufficient and the drill string is still blocked, the drill string is lowered again so that the impact device 8 again reaches the Fig. 4 and 6shown position is reached, whereby by again pulling the upper part 17 out of the lower part 18 a new impact can be generated to release the stuck component.

[0037] The invention is equally applicable to a pressure-operated impact unit. In this case, the starting position would be the one shown in the Fig. 3 and 5 shown, extended position, and the pushing device is moved to the position shown in the Fig. 4 and 6 shown position until it fires. For a double-action ramming device, the neutral starting position would be a mid-position between the Fig. 3 and 5 position shown on the one hand and the one in the Fig. 4 and 6 The firing device can then be moved to the position shown in the Fig. 3 and 5 shown position, as well as in the position shown in the Fig. 4 and6 shown position.
