Abstract

A method is provided for securing the dimensions of a vehicle frame when mounting and / or assembling the vehicle’s engine. At least one butterfly-style bonnet flap 6, and preferably two, is fitted to the body of the vehicle to enclose the frame. A component, such as a memory plate (20, Figure 5; 22, Figure 3), binding two or more frame elements 8, 10 is fitted so that the elements become rigidly connected to one another to accommodate proper fitting of bonnet flap 6. Bonnet flap 6 is removed for engine mounting and / or assembly, and then replaced. A car with such a memory plate is also provided. The method may allow for tighter tolerances in vehicle assembly.
