AI Technical Summary
The NOACK test at 250°C fails to accurately predict oil evaporation in advanced engines, necessitating a lubricating oil composition that minimizes evaporation at lower temperatures to improve fuel efficiency.
A lubricating oil composition is formulated with specific fractions of hydrocarbon groups, including 14-15 carbon atoms (0.10-0.60% by mass) and 16-18 carbon atoms (0.35-1.85% by mass), combined with base oils and additives like comb-shaped polymers and molybdenum friction modifiers, to reduce evaporation and viscosity.
The composition achieves low oil evaporation and viscosity, enhancing fuel efficiency by maintaining a NOACK value below 5% at 150°C and kinematic viscosity below 25 mm²/s at 40°C, thereby improving engine performance.

Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a lubricating oil composition. [Background technology]
[0002] The NOACK test at 250°C specified in ASTM D5800 is widely used as an index of oil volatility, but as engines become more sophisticated, it is sometimes difficult to obtain a correlation between the NOACK value and the amount of oil evaporation (consumption) under actual operating conditions.Under such circumstances, it has been reported that the value of oil volatility at lower temperatures is correlated with the actual amount of oil consumption (Non-Patent Document 1). [Prior art documents] [Non-patent literature]
[0003] [Non-Patent Document 1] Proceedings of the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Vol.52, No.6, November 2021 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0004] Under these circumstances, there has been a demand for the development of a lubricating oil composition that reduces the amount of oil evaporation at low temperatures and that can improve fuel economy. [Means for solving the problem]
[0005] As a result of extensive research, the present inventors have found that the above problems can be solved by using a predetermined amount of a base oil of a specific fraction, and have thus completed the present invention. That is, the present invention provides the following aspects. [1] A lubricating oil composition comprising a base oil (A) in which a fraction containing a hydrocarbon group having a carbon number of 14 or more and less than 16 is in the range of 0.10 to 0.60 mass % based on the total amount of the base oil (A), and a fraction containing a hydrocarbon group having a carbon number of 16 or more and less than 18 is in the range of 0.35 to 1.85 mass % based on the total amount of the base oil (A). Effect of the Invention
[0006] A preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a lubricating oil composition that reduces the amount of oil evaporation at temperatures below 250° C. In addition, a preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a lubricating oil composition that has a small kinetic viscosity at 40° C. and can improve fuel economy. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0007] The upper and lower limit values of the numerical ranges described in this specification can be arbitrarily combined. For example, when the numerical range is described as "preferably 30 to 100, more preferably 40 to 80", the ranges "30 to 80" and "40 to 100" are also included in the numerical ranges described in this specification. In addition, when the numerical range is described as "preferably 30 or more, more preferably 40 or more, and preferably 100 or less, more preferably 80 or less", the ranges "30 to 80" and "40 to 100" are also included in the numerical ranges described in this specification. In addition, as a numerical range described in this specification, for example, "60 to 100" means a range of "60 or more (60 or more) and 100 or less (100 or less)." Furthermore, in defining the upper and lower limits described in this specification, a numerical range from the lower limit to the upper limit can be defined by appropriately selecting from the respective options and combining them in any desired manner. In addition, various features described as preferred embodiments in this specification may be combined in multiple ways.
[0008] [Constitution of lubricating oil composition] The lubricating oil composition of one embodiment of the present invention comprises a base oil (A) (hereinafter also referred to as "component (A)") in which a fraction containing hydrocarbon groups having a carbon number of 14 or more and less than 16 is in the range of 0.10 to 0.60 mass % based on the total amount of base oil (A), and a fraction containing hydrocarbon groups having a carbon number of 16 or more and less than 18 is in the range of 0.35 to 1.85 mass % based on the total amount of base oil (A). According to this configuration, since the NOACK value at 150°C can be made less than the specified value, it is possible to obtain a lubricating oil composition that consumes less oil even under practical use conditions. Also, according to this configuration, it is possible to obtain a lubricating oil composition that has a small kinetic viscosity at 40°C and is excellent in fuel saving properties. In this specification, the NOACK value at 150° C. means a value measured at 150° C. for 12 hours in accordance with ASTM D5800 (hereinafter, sometimes referred to as NOACK 150° C.). Each component contained in the lubricating oil composition according to one embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail.
[0009] <Component (A): Base oil> The lubricating oil composition of the present invention uses as base oil (A) a fraction containing a hydrocarbon group having a carbon number of 14 or more and less than 16 in the range of 0.10 to 0.60 mass% based on the total amount of base oil (A), and a fraction containing a hydrocarbon group having a carbon number of 16 or more and less than 18 in the range of 0.35 to 1.85 mass% based on the total amount of base oil (A). By setting each fraction of base oil (A) in the above range, the NOACK 150°C value can be adjusted to 5 mass% or less, and oil consumption under the actual use environment of the engine can be improved. In addition, by setting each fraction of base oil (A) in the above range, the kinematic viscosity at 40°C can be adjusted to 25 mm 2 A lubricating oil composition having a fuel economy of less than 1 / s can be obtained. The fraction containing hydrocarbon groups having a carbon number of 14 or more and less than 16 is preferably 0.10 mass% or more, 0.15 mass% or more, and 0.60 mass% or less, from the viewpoint of satisfying the NOACK 150°C value and improving fuel economy. The fraction containing hydrocarbon groups having a carbon number of 16 or more and less than 18 is preferably 0.35 mass% or more, 0.40 mass% or more, or 0.50 mass% or more, while being 1.85 mass% or less, 1.80 mass% or less, 1.70 mass% or less, or 1.60 mass% or less, from the viewpoint of satisfying the NOACK 150°C value and improving fuel economy. The base oil (A) as described above can be used in accordance with the range of each fraction containing a hydrocarbon group having the above carbon number, based on the measurement results of each fraction measured by the method described in the Examples below. The base oil (A) of the present invention can be prepared, for example, by combining mineral oils, synthetic oils, or mineral oils and synthetic oils as described below, and adjusting the range of each fraction containing a hydrocarbon group with the above carbon number while taking into consideration the measurement results of each fraction measured by the method described in the Examples below.

[0054] The present invention will now be described in more detail with reference to examples, but the present invention is not limited to these examples. The various physical properties of the components used in the examples and comparative examples and the lubricating oil compositions obtained were measured according to the following methods.
[0055] (1) Kinematic viscosity and viscosity index Measured and calculated in accordance with ASTM D455. Kinematic viscosity at 40°C is 25mm 2 / s or less was judged to be pass. (2) Weight average molecular weight (Mw), number average molecular weight (Mn) One Tosoh Corporation column, "TSKguardcolumn SuperHZ-L" and two Tosoh Corporation columns, "TSKSuperMultipore HZ-M", were attached to a Waters Corporation "1515 Isocratic HPLC Pump" and "2414 Refractive Index (RI) Detector" in that order from the upstream side. Measurements were performed under the following conditions: measurement temperature: 40°C, mobile phase: tetrahydrofuran, flow rate: 0.35 mL / min, sample concentration: 1.0 mg / mL, and the results were calculated in terms of standard polystyrene. (3) Amount of fraction containing hydrocarbon groups having carbon atoms of 14 or more and less than 16 and carbon atoms of 16 or more and less than 18 Using the following measuring equipment and under the following measuring conditions, the peak areas of fractions containing hydrocarbon groups of each carbon number were calculated in the ranges of carbon numbers from 8 to less than 10, from 10 to less than 12, and then increasing the carbon number by 2 each time up to 36 to less than 38, and the proportions of the fractions containing hydrocarbon groups with carbon numbers of 14 to less than 16 relative to all peak areas, and the proportions of the fractions containing hydrocarbon groups with carbon numbers of 16 to less than 18 relative to all peak areas were calculated. (Measuring Equipment) Equipment: Shimadzu Corporation GC-2014 Detector type: FID Column: Packed column Filler: Silicone OV-1 1.5% Shinwasorb-S 60 / 80 (Measurement conditions) Injector temperature: 360℃ Detector temperature: 360℃ Heating conditions: Initial temperature 60℃ Heating rate: 10℃ / min Final temperature: 350℃ Final temperature hold time: 5 min Gas flow rate: N245mL / min (4) NOACK 150℃ The measurement was performed at 150°C for 12 hours in accordance with ASTM D5800. Those with a NOACK value of 5% by mass or less at 150°C were judged to pass. (5) Friction coefficient [Evaluation of friction coefficient] The friction coefficient was measured using an SRV tester (manufactured by Optimol) under the following conditions when the prepared lubricating oil composition was used. First, the temperature was raised from 30°C to 140°C in 10°C increments, and the test was carried out for 5 minutes at each temperature under the following conditions. During the final minute of the test at 30° C., the friction coefficient was measured every second, and the average friction coefficient during the final minute was calculated. Cylinder: AISI52100 Mirror disc: AISI52100 (maximum height roughness (Rz): less than 0.20 μm) Frequency: 50Hz ·Amplitude: 1.5mm Load capacity: 400N Temperature: 30~140℃, increasing by 10℃ Test time: 5 minutes at each temperature The coefficient of friction was evaluated using the improvement rate calculated by the following formula as an index, based on the coefficient of friction at 30°C measured using the sample oil of Example 1. In Tables 1 and 2, "-" means that the coefficient of friction was not measured. Formula: Improvement rate = 100 - (friction coefficient of each example at 30°C / friction coefficient of example 1 at 30°C x 100)
