AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing methods for detecting abnormal heat generation in batteries struggle to accurately identify signs of overheating, especially when charging patterns deviate from normal conditions or when temperature changes are gradual, leading to potential overlooking of early signs of abnormal heat generation.

Method used

A battery abnormality prediction system that acquires current and temperature data from batteries and predicts abnormality based on the relationship between current flow and temperature rise over a certain period, using a judgment score calculated from thermal energy principles, allowing for early detection of ignition risks by comparing against thresholds set from ignition data.

Benefits of technology

Enables early detection of abnormal overheating in batteries, irrespective of charging patterns, by considering both current and temperature dynamics, thus preventing thermal runaway.

Abstract

In the battery abnormality prediction system according to the present invention, an acquisition unit acquires a current flowing through a battery and the temperature of the battery. A prediction unit predicts the occurrence of an abnormality in the battery on the basis of a relationship between the amount of the current flowing through the battery during a fixed period and an increase in the temperature of the battery during the fixed period. The prediction unit may detect a sign of ignition of the battery by comparing a ratio between the integrated amount of the current and the increase in the temperature during the fixed period with a threshold value determined on the basis of data on ignited batteries.
