Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The invention relates to desks and more particularly to a desk including a height adjustable mechanism having improved characteristics.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Conventionally, tables or chairs have a fixed height. However, heights of individuals may vary greatly. Thus, one individual may deem the height of a desk to be too high and another individual may deem the height of the desk to be too low.

[0003] There are height adjustable desks commercially available. The height adjustable mechanism of the desk is mostly implemented as a pneumatic mechanism. However, its components are complicated and may malfunction after a short period of time of use.

[0004] In reading or working, it is uncomfortable for an individual to sit on a chair in the rear of a table when temperature is low.

[0005] Thus, the need for improvement still exists.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] It is therefore one object of the invention to provide a desk comprising two hollow legs; two internally threaded members disposed in the hollow legs respectively; two slide members including an externally threaded member on an outer surface, the externally threaded member being threadedly secured to the internally threaded members and having a first bevel gear on a top; a work surface disposed on tops of the slide members; a heating member disposed on a bottom of the work surface; an interconnection interconnecting front portions of the hollow legs; a drive shaft disposed through the heating member and including two second bevel gears at first and second ends respectively, the second bevel gear being in gear engagement with the first bevel gear; and a hand crank disposed at a first side of the desk and attached to the first end of the draft shaft.

[0007] The above and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken with the accompanying drawingsBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0008] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a desk according to the invention, viewed from the front;

[0009] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the desk, viewed from the rear;

[0010] FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the desk, viewed from the bottom;

[0011] FIG. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the desk;

[0012] FIG. 5 is a side elevation of the desk;

[0013] FIG. 6 is a rear view of the desk;

[0014] FIG. 7 is a side elevation showing a gear engagement of the first and second bevel gears;

[0015] FIG. 8 is a perspective view of FIG. 7; and

[0016] FIG. 9 is a view similar to FIG. 6 showing a height adjustment of the desk by rotating the hand crank.DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0017] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 9, a desk in accordance with the invention comprises two hollow legs 2; two bases 1 secured to bottoms of the hollow legs 2 respectively; two internally threaded members 8 disposed in the hollow legs 2 respectively; two slide members 6 including an externally threaded member 9 on an outer surface, the externally threaded member 9 being threadedly secured to the internally threaded members 8 and having a first bevel gear 91 on a top; a work surface 4 disposed on tops of the slide members 6; a heating member 5 disposed on a bottom of the work surface 4; an interconnection 3 interconnecting front portions of the hollow legs 2; a drive shaft 7 disposed through the heating member 5 and including two second bevel gears 71 at first and second ends respectively, the second bevel gear 71 being in gear engagement with the first bevel gear 91; and a hand crank 10 disposed at a first side of the desk and attached to the first end of the draft shaft 7.

[0018] In use, an individual may use one hand to clockwise rotate the hand crank 10 to drive the externally threaded members 9 into the internally threaded members 8 or counterclockwise rotate the hand crank 10 to drive the externally threaded members 9 away from the internally threaded members 8, thereby adjusting height of the desk.

[0019] Alternatively, the externally threaded members 9 are provided in the hollow legs 2 respectively and the internally threaded members 8 are provided on the slide members 6 respectively.

[0020] While the invention has been described in terms of embodiments, those skilled in the art will recognize that the invention can be practiced with modifications within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
