Abstract
Description
System and method for cutting and dismantling large concrete containers and assessing their suitability for disposal
[0001] The present invention relates to a system and method for cutting and dismantling large concrete containers and for evaluating their disposal suitability, and more particularly, to a system and method for cutting and dismantling large concrete containers capable of effectively separating 200-liter drum-built waste, grouting concrete, and external concrete containers solidified with high-dose concentrated waste liquid cement through cutting, separation, and radionuclide analysis processes, and evaluating their disposal suitability.
[0002] In the radioactive waste storage facility, large concrete containers containing high-dose concentrated waste liquid are stored for long periods of time.
[0003] Inside the large concrete container, the concentrated waste liquid is cement-solidified in a 200-liter drum, and cement is grouted between the outer skin of the large concrete container and the 200-liter drum to form a large concrete wall with a thickness of 10 cm or more.
[0004] A large concrete container constructed in this manner is a composite structure, and the solidified body, which is the solidified body of the concentrated waste liquid solidified with cement in a 200-liter drum, may have a very high level of radioactive contamination, while the outer shell and large concrete walls of the large concrete container may have a minimal level of contamination that allows for self-disposal.
[0005] In order to dispose of solid waste and large concrete containers, the inventory of radionuclides in the internal waste must be assessed and their characteristics must be evaluated. Unlike solid waste, the characteristics evaluation must be easily conducted to ensure the disposal suitability of grouted concrete walls and external concrete containers, which have a low contamination level.
[0006] However, the large concrete container is a complex structure that is very large and complex, and thus there is a lack of devices and processes for assessing the inventory of radionuclides and evaluating their characteristics.
[0007] In addition, in order to assess the radionuclide inventory and characterize the embedded waste, it is necessary to separate the embedded waste in 200-liter drums with cement-solidified high-dose concentrated waste liquid, the grouted concrete walls, and the external concrete containers, but this separation process has the problem of increasing the risk of radiation exposure to workers.
[0008] The present invention was devised to solve such problems, and the purpose of the present invention is to provide a system and method for cutting and dismantling a large concrete container and evaluating its disposal suitability, which can automatically separate the 200-liter drum-built waste, grouting concrete wall, and external concrete container in which high-dose concentrated waste liquid is cement-solidified, and which can easily secure the disposal suitability or self-dispose of the grouting concrete wall and external concrete container with low contamination, and can easily perform a characteristic evaluation to secure the disposal suitability of the cement-solidified body of the built-in waste.
[0009] A large concrete container cutting and dismantling and disposal suitability evaluation system according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a large concrete container and solidified body vertical and horizontal cutting device capable of vertically and horizontally cutting a concrete container and a solidified body, a cutting block separating device for separating a solidified body block, a grounding concrete block, and an external container block from the container and solidified body cut blocks cut by the container and solidified body vertical and horizontal cutting device, and a suitable disposal device for judging self-disposal or disposal suitability for each of the solidified body blocks, grounding concrete blocks, and external container blocks individually separated by the cutting block separating device, and for self-disposing or disposing when self-disposal or disposal suitability is satisfied.
[0010] A method for cutting and dismantling a large concrete container and evaluating its suitability for disposal according to another aspect of the present invention may include a step of vertically or horizontally cutting and dismantling a composite structure composed of a solidified body of a large concrete container packaging a high-dose concentrated waste liquid, a concrete wall grouted between the solidified body and the container outer shell, and the container outer shell into concrete container and solidified body blocks having a predetermined size using vertical and horizontal cutting devices, a step of individually separating the solidified body blocks, the grouted concrete wall blocks, and the container outer shell blocks from the concrete container and solidified body blocks cut and dismantled by the vertical and horizontal cutting devices, and a step of evaluating the suitability for disposal and processing the solidified body blocks and the grouted concrete wall blocks, respectively.
[0011] A method for cutting and dismantling a large concrete container and assessing its suitability for disposal according to another aspect of the present invention includes a step of separately measuring surface dose rates for the separated solidified body blocks and the grouting concrete wall blocks, and a step of separately performing radionuclide analysis and radionuclide inventory evaluation for the separated solidified body blocks and the grouting concrete wall blocks by applying a scale factor utilizing gamma rays.
[0012] The step of evaluating the above disposal suitability and processing and disposing may include a step in which each evaluation is performed based on the respective measurement results obtained in the step in which the separate surface dose rate measurement is performed and the step in which the separate nuclide analysis and nuclide inventory evaluation are performed.
[0013] The cross-section of the large concrete container containing the high-dose concentrated waste liquid may be square or circular.
[0014] The step of individually separating the solidified block, the grouting concrete wall block, and the container outer skin block may be performed by separating the solidified block, the grouting concrete wall block, and the container outer skin block from the concrete container and the solidified block by applying energy through external vibration or low or high frequency application or by means of vibration and physical impact.
[0015] According to a system and method for cutting and dismantling a large concrete container and evaluating its suitability for disposal according to one embodiment of the present invention, it is possible to automatically separate waste inside a 200-liter drum in which high-dose concentrated waste liquid is solidified by cement, a grouted concrete wall, and an external concrete container, thereby reducing radiation exposure of workers during the separation process.
[0016] Furthermore, according to one embodiment of the present invention, a system and method for cutting and dismantling large concrete containers and assessing their suitability for disposal can effectively secure the suitability of concrete and external concrete containers with low contamination levels, or facilitate self-disposal. Furthermore, a characteristic evaluation can be readily performed to ensure the suitability for disposal of internal waste cement solidification.

[0028] As illustrated in FIG. 2, a method for cutting and dismantling a large concrete container and assessing suitability for disposal according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises cutting and dismantling a composite structure composed of a large concrete container (C) in which a high-dose concentrated waste liquid is packaged, a solidified body block (10) in which the concentrated waste liquid is cement-solidified in a 200-liter drum, a concrete wall block (30) grouted between the solidified body block (10) and an outer container (50), and the outer container (50) into a plurality of concrete containers and solidified body blocks (CB) having a predetermined size vertically or horizontally using a vertical and horizontal cutting device (110) (S110).
[0029] The solidified body block (10), grouting concrete wall block (30), and container outer skin block (50) cut and dismantled by the above vertical and horizontal cutting device (110) are individually separated (S120).
[0030] The step of individually separating the solidified body blocks (10), the grouting concrete wall blocks (30), and the container outer skin blocks (50) cut and dismantled by the vertical and horizontal cutting devices (110) may be performed by separating the solidified body blocks (10), the grouting concrete wall blocks (30), and the container outer skin blocks (50) from a plurality of concrete containers and solidified body blocks (CB) by external vibration, or by applying energy through low or high frequency application and using vibration and physical impact means from a plurality of concrete containers and solidified body blocks (CB).

[0035] As illustrated in FIG. 3, a large concrete container (C) with a rectangular cross-section for long-term storage is cut into composite blocks of a predetermined size, i.e., a concrete container and a solidified body block (CB), after the solidified body block (10) of a 200-liter drum containing internal radioactive waste, a grouting concrete wall block (30) for fixing the drum, and an outer block (50) of the rectangular container, and then each is separated by vibration or external impact, and a customized nuclide, nuclide inventory, and characteristic evaluation are performed on each of the solidified body block (10), the grouting concrete wall block (30), and the outer block (50) of the container, so that process efficiency and waste disposal suitability can be secured.
[0036] In addition, as illustrated in FIG. 4, a large concrete container (C) with a circular cross-section for long-term storage is cut into composite blocks of a predetermined size, i.e., a concrete container and a solidified body block (CB), after the solidified body block (10) of a 200-liter drum containing internal radioactive waste, a grouting concrete wall block (30) for fixing the drum, and a square container outer block (50) are separated by vibration or external impact, and a customized nuclide, nuclide inventory, and characteristic evaluation are performed on each of the solidified body block (10), the grouting concrete wall block (30), and the container outer block (50), so that process efficiency and waste disposal suitability can be secured.
[0037] In this way, a large concrete container containing radioactive waste can be cut and dismantled by the vertical and horizontal cutting device (110) as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, thereby being configured into a concrete container and a solidified body block (CB) that are easy to handle and manipulate.
[0038] In addition, the container outer block (50), the grouting concrete wall block (30), and the solidification body (50) are individually separated from the concrete container and the solidification body block (CB), and the disposal suitability can be secured through surface dose rate measurement, nuclide analysis, and nuclide inventory evaluation of each of the container outer block (50), the grouting concrete wall block (30), and the solidification body (50) based on a certain standard.
[0039] According to a system and method for cutting and dismantling a large concrete container and evaluating its suitability for disposal according to one embodiment of the present invention, it is possible to automatically separate waste inside a 200-liter drum in which high-dose concentrated waste liquid is solidified by cement, a grouted concrete wall, and an external concrete container, thereby reducing radiation exposure of workers during the separation process.
[0040] Furthermore, according to one embodiment of the present invention, a system and method for cutting and dismantling large concrete containers and assessing their suitability for disposal can effectively secure the suitability of concrete and external concrete containers with low contamination levels, or facilitate self-disposal. Furthermore, a characteristic evaluation can be readily performed to ensure the suitability for disposal of internal waste cement solidification.
