Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] BEVERAGE PREPARATION SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES WITH MATERIAL SEPARATION PROVISION

[0003] Field of Invention

[0004] The present invention relates to systems comprising a beverage preparation machine operable by cartridges that confine a portion support presenting multiple individual portions of edible substance, for example roasted and ground coffee beans, beverage precursor, for example espresso coffee and the like, as well as to methods of operating these systems.

[0005] Background of the Invention

[0006] The state of the art includes solutions relating to a flexible and elongated support comprising a plurality of individual portions, in particular portions of roasted and ground coffee, to be processed successively in the extraction device of a beverage preparation machine, including in a machine for preparing espresso coffee, tea or similar.

[0007] US 598,639, US 3,607,297, US 3,812,273, WO 97 / 17006, DE 10248137 A1 disclose individual portion supports of the type of the present invention.

[0008] EP 0653177 BI discloses a method for preparing a coffee beverage with a cartridge comprising a portion holder for individual portions which can be operatively associated with a beverage preparation machine so that it can supply the individual portions of beverage precursor substance carried by the portion holder successively to a beverage preparation device. The cartridge is in this case arranged so that the strip is only pulled upwards by a traction element forming part of the extraction device, and therefore does not include a traction element upstream of the extraction device. Furthermore, the cartridge is arranged partially outside the machine housing and has a reduced number of individual portions.

[0009] Furthermore, the prior art includes document WO 2013 / 169134 A2 registered by the author of the present invention which discloses an advantageous configuration of a beverage preparation system adapted to use such a multi-portion support, and which discloses some relative arrangements of cartridge and traction element upstream of a traction device.

[0010] Beverage preparation systems of this type raise various types of technical problems in view of their constructive simplicity and operational efficiency.

[0011] In the case of cartridges with a relatively high number of individual portions, including more than 10 individual portions, questions arise regarding the possibility of more efficient and reliable movement of a greater length and total weight of support to be fractionated, as well as ease of storage within a support collection package, for example in a zigzag arrangement extending in height.

[0012] The relative arrangement of the cartridge in the operating position in the beverage preparation machine can determine issues relating to the possibility of more efficient and reliable movement of the support by a traction element of the machine, as well as more ergonomic arrangement in the machine.

[0013] US 4,008,657 discloses an apparatus for adjusting the temperature of semi-fluid foods and delivering them successively, and which is operable so that a portion holder is pulled out of a cartridge by a pulling arrangement in a generally vertical and downward direction. The pulling device includes two retaining members arranged parallel and configured to assist in guiding the portion holder in the required direction. Furthermore, the apparatus includes means for cutting the portion holder to provide release of food portions from the portion holder.

[0014] Document EP 0457708 A1 also discloses a beverage preparation system including a collection package of a flexible and elongated support for individual portions of the type of the present invention. In particular, the document discloses the arrangement of the tape in a zigzag vertical fashion within the package and with the portions in a staggered manner, the tape being pulled from a top region of the package and in a generally vertical direction for supply to the beverage preparation machine.

[0015] Document WO 2013 / 169134 A2, registered by the applicant, discloses a system in which the portion support is pulled out of a cartridge by means of a pulling device operating by rotation about an axis transverse to the prevailing direction of movement and incorporating engagement with the individual portions of the portion support. Furthermore, the document discloses that the most upstream individual portion can be separated from the remainder of the portion support when it is in a position downstream of the pulling device and upstream of the extraction device. This solution therefore does not provide for a separation of the materials of the portion support, in particular the support sheets, preferably provided in a synthetic material, and the individual portions of edible beverage precursor substance.

[0016] Documents WO 2016 / 048181 Al and WO 2016 / 048182 Al registered by the author of the present invention, reveal solutions for moving the support of individual portions of the type of the present invention, from the collection packaging thereof and up to an adjustable extraction device.

[0017] Documents WO 2016 / 013034 Al and WO 2016 / 130035 Al, also registered by the author of the present invention, reveal advantageous configurations of individual portion support collection packages of the type of the present invention.

[0018] Documents WO 2021 / 118376 Al and WO 2021 / 118377 Al, also registered by the author of the present invention, address several of these aspects.

[0019] Documents WO 2021 / 118376 Al and WO 2021 / 118377 Al, also registered by the author of the present invention, address several of these aspects. General Description of the Invention

[0020] The object of the present invention is to disclose beverage preparation systems operable with a cartridge that can provide a plurality of individual portions of edible substance for preparation of a respective beverage by means of extraction, said system being configured so that the beverage preparation machine provides a reliable and efficient separation of main materials from the portion holder together with an ergonomic use of the system by a user.

[0021] The above objective is solved according to the present invention by means of a beverage preparation system according to claim 1.

[0022] In particular, the above object is solved according to the present invention by means of a system comprising retaining elements configured so that they provide connection of the ends of the support sheets to the traction device and thereby transmission of traction movement by rotation around respective rotation axes, and so that each support sheet can be retained on a respective retaining element.

[0023] Furthermore, the retaining elements are designed to be operable in a coordinated manner by the pulling device of the machine, thereby providing circulation and separation of the individual portion in a space delimited on at least two opposite sides between the retaining elements upstream of the extraction device, in particular so that the individual portion can fall individually directly into the same solely by the action of the force of gravity.

[0024] Furthermore, according to a second aspect, the cartridge is machine operable so that the carrier sheets are separable from the individual portions without requiring disruption of the material thereof, including cutting, puncturing or other form of disruption, and so that only the individual portions are supplied to the extraction device and to a waste collection container disposed therein. The combination of these two aspects contributes to reducing actuation requirements and increases the reliability of feeding individual portions from the cartridge.

[0025] The separation of materials from the portion support is thus advantageously provided by a simple and efficient construction.

[0026] The machine includes a traction device that provides traction of the portion carrier out of the cartridge case through a rotational movement about an axis transverse to the prevailing direction of movement and that includes contact with the outer and / or inner surfaces of carrier sheets but does not include contact with the individual portions of the portion carrier.

[0027] A related object of the present invention is to disclose a system operable to provide reliable and efficient separation of packaging materials.

[0028] The above objective is solved according to the present invention by means of a system in which a cartridge can be operated by the beverage preparation machine so that the main materials of the portion support can be separated by action of the same traction movement that provides supply of the portion support to the traction device.

[0029] Separation of main materials corresponds to the separation of carrier sheets, which may be provided in a non-biodegradable material, from the individual portions confined by the carrier sheets, the individual portions being an edible substance devoid of non-biodegradable materials.

[0030] The system is configured such that the carrier sheets are separated from individual portions by removing the bonding connection between the carrier sheets from the portion holder upstream of the extraction device.

[0031] Furthermore, according to a second aspect, the cartridge is machine operable so that the carrier sheets are separable from the individual portions without requiring disruption of the material thereof, including cutting, puncturing or other form of disruption, and so that only the individual portions are supplied to the extraction device and to a waste collection container disposed therein.

[0032] The combination of these two aspects helps to reduce the need for actuation and increases the reliability of feeding individual portions from the cartridge.

[0033] The separation of materials from the portion support is thus advantageously provided by a simple and efficient construction.

[0034] The machine includes a traction device that provides traction of the portion carrier out of the cartridge case through a rotational movement about an axis transverse to the prevailing direction of movement and that includes contact with the outer and / or inner surfaces of carrier sheets but does not include contact with the individual portions of the portion carrier.

[0035] The system can be configured so that the individual portions are supplied to the extraction device and the support sheets are collected upstream of this.

[0036] The system may be configured so that the carrier sheets are separated from individual portions by removing the bonding connection between the carrier sheets upstream of the extraction device, thereby releasing the individual portions from the collection confinements.

[0037] The system may be configured such that removal of the bonding connection between the support sheets is provided along at least a perimeter length of the collection enclosures around the individual portions.

[0045] - be devoid of other means of actuation for separating the portion support, preferably of any other means of actuation associated with the operation of the individual portions;

[0046] - be devoid of any means of breaking, cutting or piercing the portion support, so that the portion support can be retracted in its entirety without dimensional changes in relation to its configuration inside the cartridge case.

[0047] The cartridge may be operable by a traction device that provides rotation about an axis transverse to the prevailing direction of movement and transmission of force by interaction with the outer and / or inner surfaces of support sheets, according to at least one of: so as to exert action on a transverse region of the support portions relative to the prevailing direction of supply movement;

[0048] - so that it supports the weight of the individual portion in a region where it is at least partially outside the supporting sheets.

[0049] It is thus advantageously provided that the traction device does not engage in direct meshing or form meshing with the individual portions.

[0050] The cartridge may comprise a portion support including two support sheets having a plurality of joining connections to each other in accordance with at least one of:

[0051] - in the ring-shaped region in the vicinity of the perimeter of each collecting portion, preferably only in this region so that, the boundary lateral extensions are preferably devoid of a joining connection,

[0097] Detailed Description of the Invention

[0098] As known in the state of the art and represented in a merely schematic form in Figure 1, a cartridge (3) can be part of a system for preparing edible products, for example coffee-based drinks, such as espresso coffee.

[0099] A cartridge (3) of the type of the present invention comprises a cartridge case (31) configured so that it collects a portion support (1) comprising a plurality of collection confinements (130) which confine an individual portion (2) of edible substance for beverage preparation.

[0100] The portion support (1) may comprise two elongated and flexible support sheets (11, 12) joined in juxtaposition so that they form successive collection portions (13) spaced by a pitch (p) and which provide collection confinements (130) around respective individual portions (2) of edible beverage precursor substance.

[0101] The cartridge (3) is adapted so that it can be operatively associated with a beverage preparation machine (100).

[0102] In particular, the cartridge (3) can be operatively connected to the machine (10) in an operative position in which the portion support (1) is arranged at least approximately aligned in the same vertical plane as an axis of rotation of the traction element (101) and extraction device (102).

[0103] When the cartridge (3) is in the operating position, the portion support (1) is operable so that it can be actuated by a pulling device (100), including pulled by a pulling element thereof configured so that it interacts directly with a portion of the portion support (1) so as to transfer movement thereto, the pulling device (100) being actuated by an actuating device, for example an electric motor (not shown) and regulated by control means (not shown) so that it can be supplied step-by-step to an extraction device (102) downstream in the machine (10).

[0104] In particular, the cartridge (3) can be arranged in an operative position so that a downstream end of the portion support (1) can be engaged in a traction device (100) of the machine (10), preferably in a cavity provided in a perimeter portion thereof, and be led to a beverage preparation device (102) which can be an espresso-type coffee extraction device and similar beverages.

[0105] As best represented in Figure 3, the portion support (1) includes a plurality of collection portions (13) having a collection confinement (130) adapted so as to collect an individual portion (2) of edible substance therein and which define a pitch (p) as a distance between corresponding points of successive collection confinements (130). Successive collection confinements (130) are configured spaced apart from each other by a distance (q).

[0106] Furthermore, the portion support (1) can be arranged operatively, i.e. when the cartridge (3) is in the operative position in the machine (10), so that it can be pulled out of the cartridge (3) by the pulling device (100) and fed downstream of this and in a vertical direction to the extraction device (102).

[0107] According to a prior art solution, and also represented schematically in Figure 1, the system can be configured so that a collection portion (13) further downstream is separated from the remaining support (1) of portions upstream of the extraction device (102).

[0108] In particular, this separation can be carried out by cutting the portion support (1) in a transverse direction, so as to separate the collection portion (13) further downstream than

[0109] As shown, the extraction device (102) is advantageously configured such that it can be operated between open and closed positions in a direction generally transverse to the direction of supply of the individual portion (2). Furthermore, the extraction device (102) is arranged such that the individual portions (2) can fall into a waste collection container (103), preferably solely by the action of gravity.

[0110] The cartridge (3) comprises a cartridge box (31) which encloses the portion holder (1) therein.

[0111] The cartridge case (31) has a general parallelepiped-like shape, so that it can collect a portion support (1) in an arrangement wherein it is folded in successive zigzag row segments according to the height (H3) of the cartridge case (31). The downstream end of the portion support (1) is arranged in the vicinity of an outlet opening (32) of the cartridge case (31), and the outlet opening (32) is provided in a corner region of the cartridge case (31), such as a corner region including part of at least one of a top wall and a front wall of the cartridge case (31).

[0112] Various possibilities for arranging the portion support (1) are known, including such that collection confinements (130) of successive row segments, or their respective central axes (X), are alternately offset from each other relative to a following row and aligned with those of a second row upstream or downstream, as schematically represented in Figure 2.

[0113] As the reader will readily realize, and considering the dimensions of a collection containment (130), the dimensions and number of individual portions (2) contained in a given collection volume of the cartridge box (31) are parameters that determine the dimensions of the cartridge (3) and the frequency of need for replacement, and the ease of handling thereof by a user of the beverage preparation system, as well as transportation and storage costs.

[0114] Furthermore, the length (L3) and height (H3) of the cartridge case (31) are parameters that can determine the dimension of the machine (10).

[0115] The present description then addresses aspects of a cartridge (3) according to the present invention, and Figure 2 includes views of a supply support segment (1).

[0116] The portion support (1) comprises two support sheets joined in juxtaposition along a connecting plane (Y) so as to form a plurality of collection portions (13). The collection portions (13) comprise respective collection confinement (130) that has a characteristic collection transverse dimension (Q3O) and collection height (H 30 ) configured so as to confine the individual portion (2) of edible substance.

[0117] The collection enclosures (130) are configured so that they can contain individual portions (2) having an amount of between 5 and 7 g of edible beverage precursor substance. The collection enclosures (130) have a symmetrical shape with respect to a central axis of symmetry (X) and / or with respect to the connecting plane (Y), including upper and lower hemispheres of similar shape and size that correspond to half the collection height (H 30 ) and collection volume.

[0118] In one aspect, the collection confinements (130) have a ratio between the characteristic collection dimension (Q30) and the collection height (H 30) comprised between 3.0:1 and 6.0:1, preferably between 3.5:1 and 5.0:1. Furthermore, the collection confinements (130) present two mutually opposed planar surfaces that present an extension of at least 70%, preferably at least 80%, of the characteristic collection dimension (Q 30 ) .

[0119] The combination of these two parameters configures a format of collection confinements (130) that advantageously provides greater stability of the support (1) of portions inside the cartridge box (31).

[0120] The individual portion (2) comprises roasted and ground coffee beans, preferably at least in the majority of the mass fraction, or another edible substance for preparing beverages by means of infusion or extraction thereof.

[0121] The individual portion (2) is advantageously provided in the form of a pre-compressed tablet of edible substance, for example roasted and ground coffee beans.

[0122] The compacted tablet (2) may have a general disc-like shape, with a characteristic transverse dimension (Q2), for example the outer diameter, and a height (H2).

[0123] It is advantageous when the individual portion (2) has a transverse portion dimension (Q2) between 30 and 50 mm, preferably between 30 and 40 mm.

[0124] The collection enclosures (130) may be adapted so that they can confine individual portions (2) in a hermetic manner, that is, in a manner that is tight to external gas, or in a non-hermetic manner and permeable to the passage of fluids, but not allowing the passage of particles with a size greater than 0.1 mm, preferably not greater than 0.05 mm. It is preferred when the portion support (1) is configured so that the collection enclosures (130) have a characteristic collection dimension (Q30) comprised between 30 and 50 mm, preferably between 35 and 45 mm.

[0125] It is preferred when the portion support (1) is configured so that the collection confinements (130) present a ratio between the collection transverse dimension (Q30) and the portion transverse dimension (Q2) comprised between 1.02:1 and 1.12:1, preferably between 1.04:1 and 1.10:1.

[0126] The portion support (1) is configured so that the collection confinements (130) present a top and base region of surfaces of similar shape and size and planar format parallel to the connection plane (Y) adapted for flow inlet and outlet, and the ratio between the area of the collection confinements (130) in the connection plane (Y) and the projection of the area of the top and base regions in the connection plane (Y) is between 1.20:1 and 1.40:1, preferably between 1.25:1 and 1.35:1, so that they are supported by the greater structural resistance provided by the configuration of the side wall (15) and relative distance to it.

[0127] The portion support (1) is configured so that the collection confinements (130) have a curved side wall (15) when viewed in side section, with at least the greater part of the extension of the side wall (15) having the shape of a circumference segment with a radius between 3 and 6 mm, preferably between 3.5 and 5.5 mm.

[0128] The height (H 30 ) of the collection confinements (130) is therefore between 6 and 12 mm, preferably between 7 and 11 mm. The Applicant has experimentally determined that this dimension provides good results in terms of coffee extraction, and provides greater stability of the portion support (1) inside the cartridge box (31).

[0129] Furthermore, the collection portions (13) include annular-shaped connecting regions (14) extending radially with a characteristic connecting transverse dimension (Q4) from the side wall (15) of the collection enclosure (130), and which do not extend along the entire free distance (q) between successive collection enclosures (130) nor along a width (r) of free side edges of the enclosure support (1).

[0130] It is preferred when the portion support (1) is configured so that the ratio between the bonding surface area of the bonding regions (14) and the area of the collection confinements (130) in the bonding plane (Y) is comprised between 1.5:1 and 5.0:1, preferably between 2.0:1 and 3.0:1, so that the bonding region (14) presents a sufficient material bonding surface in relation to the characteristic dimension of the collection confinements (130).

[0131] The connecting regions (14) are adapted so as to provide a thickness (T4) greater than the thickness (Ti) of other regions of the confinement support (1) between successive collection confinements (130).

[0132] The connecting regions (14) are adapted so as to provide greater flexural strength and / or rigidity than other regions of the confinement support (1) between successive collection confinements (130).

[0133] The collection portions (13) are provided so that the collection enclosures (130) have a top wall and a base wall with a characteristic cross-sectional dimension (Q 30 Í) which is surrounded by a curved side wall (15), including a larger part in the shape of a circular arc, and the connecting region (14).

[0134] According to a particularly advantageous aspect, the portion support (1) has connecting regions (14) adapted so as to provide flexion in the perimeter region of the collection confinements (130) and in a region between connecting regions (14) of successive collection confinements (130), so that a more compact arrangement of the collection confinements (130) is provided within a cartridge box (31) and, therefore, smaller relative dimensions thereof for a given number of collection confinements (130). According to one aspect of the present invention, and in order to solve the problem of separating materials from the portion support (1), the system is configured so that the individual portions (2) are supplied to the extraction device (102) and the support sheets (11, 12) are collected upstream thereof.

[0135] According to an advantageous aspect, the individual portions (2) are supplied to the extraction device (102) and the support sheets (11, 12) are collected by the same actuation movement of the portion support (1), in particular by means of a rotational movement of the pulling device (100) which is operatively associated with the support sheets (11, 12) but not with the individual portions (2).

[0136] Figures 3 to 6 represent preferred embodiments of a system according to the present invention, wherein a cartridge (3) is operable by the machine (10) so that the support sheets (11, 12) of the portion support (1) are separated from each other and collected in full, and so that only the individual portions (2) are supplied to the extraction device (102) and to a waste collection container (103) downstream thereof.

[0137] According to a further aspect, the system is configured such that the support sheets (11, 12) are separated from the individual portions (2) by removing the connecting connection between the support sheets (11, 12) upstream of the extraction device (102).

[0138] Furthermore, the system may be configured so that removal of the joining connection between the support sheets (11, 12) is provided along at least a length around the individual portions (2) and by means of the same pulling movement that pulls the portion support (1) out of the cartridge case (31).

[0139] Alternatively or additionally, the system may be configured so that only the individual portion (2) is supplied to the extraction device (102) and so that the carrier sheets (11, 12) are retracted upstream thereof by means of a single actuating movement and pulling device thereof. This solution advantageously provides a simple and efficient construction of the machine (10) as well as a reliable and complete separation of the materials of the carrier sheets (11, 12) and the edible substance of the individual portions (2).

[0140] It is further shown to be particularly advantageous when the machine (10) and the cartridge (3) are adapted so that the support sheets (11, 12) are separable from the individual portions (2) without requiring rupture of the same and so that only the individual portions are supplied to the extraction device (102).

[0141] As shown in the drawings, the cartridge (3) is adapted so that it can be arranged in an operative position so that the portion support (1) can be pulled out of the cartridge box (31) in a first extension between the outlet opening (32) and a pulling device (100) towards the front of the machine (10), and moved in a second extension from the pulling device (100) to the extraction device (102) upstream of a waste collection container (103).

[0142] Figures 3 and 4 represent a first embodiment of a system in which the traction device (100) has two parts, each providing support and actuation of a respective retention element (101).

[0143] The traction device (100) is arranged directly downstream and in front of the cartridge case (31) , relative to the front region of the machine (10) , and directly upstream and above the extraction device (102) .

[0144] In particular, the traction device (100) can be arranged so that the retaining elements (101) are parallel and at least approximately level, preferably also horizontally aligned with the outlet opening (32).

[0145] Each support sheet (11, 12) is retained on a respective retaining element (101) and actuated by the traction device (100), so that a gradual removal of the joining connection between both results, and a separation of the same.

[0146] In this case, the support sheets (11, 12) are moved along paths that are at least approximately parallel to one another and, in this case again, so that they are wound onto respective retaining elements (101) along tangents to the direction of circulation of the rotational movement directed in an at least approximately horizontal direction.

[0147] As shown, the individual portion (2) is thereby released from the collection confinement (130) and guided through the space between the retaining elements (130), so that downstream of the pulling device (100) it is guided to the extraction device (102) solely by the action of the force of gravity.

[0148] In the case of Figure 4, the system further comprises a separation part (104) and a conduction part (105) associated upstream and downstream of the traction device (100), respectively.

[0149] The separating part (104) is provided in the central region of the path of the support (1) of portions upstream of the traction device (100) and configured so that it induces a separation of the support sheets (11, 12) and, in this case, a different direction of circulation for respective retaining elements (101) upstream.

[0150] It is preferred when the separating part (104) is configured in a general plate-like form, arranged transversely and so that a first support sheet (11) runs above, preferably together with the individual portion (2), and a second support sheet (12) runs below.

[0151] The separation part (104) can also be arranged so that it provides support for the circulation of the individual portion (2) above it, and conduction to a region where it falls by the action of gravity in the direction of the extraction device (102).

[0152] In this case, the circulation directions of the support sheets (11, 12) are divergent and oblique, which proves to be advantageous in terms of separating them and the individual portion (2).

[0153] The driving part (105) can be configured in the form of a funnel, duct, or similar, and so that it collects the individual portion (2) in a region close to the traction device (100) downstream of this, and provides driving of the individual portion (2) in sliding by the action of the force of gravity to a region close to the extraction device (102) upstream of this. It is preferred when the driving part (105) is configured so that it induces a previously defined spatial arrangement of the individual portion (2) and corresponding to the inlet opening of this in the extraction device (102).

[0154] In the case of Figure 5, the traction device (100) is further arranged at a level at least approximately similar to the level of the outlet opening (32), and the separation part (104) as well, but in such a way that it induces a separation of the support sheets (11, 12) at an angle at least approximately equal to or greater than 90° to each other.

[0155] It is preferred when the separating part (104) is configured so that it delimits at least one, preferably two narrow-shaped passages, so that each of the support sheets (11, 12) can be circulated through one of these, and the individual portion (2) can circulate in the space between said narrow-shaped passages.

[0156] One of the retaining elements (101) and the corresponding part of the traction device (100) is in this case arranged at a level above the second retaining element (101).

[0157] In the case of Figure 6, the traction device (100) is arranged at a lower level relative to the outlet opening (32), preferably at a lower level relative to a separation part (104).

[0158] The separating part (104) comprises in this case two portions, configured so as to provide directed guidance of the portion support (1) and the support sheets (11, 12) in two distinct regions of the path, preferably upstream of a traction device (100).

[0159] A first separation portion (1041) may advantageously be arranged in the vicinity of the outlet opening (32) and at a similar level thereto, so that the extension

[0160] A second separation portion (1042) may be arranged at a lower level relative to the outlet opening (32) and / or the first separation portion (1041), in a region generally aligned vertically above the extraction device (102) and configured so that each support sheet (11, 12) passes on one side thereof and thereby supports the separation of the support sheets (11, 12).

[0161] The second separation portion (1042) can be provided on an elastic support so as to compensate for the circulation of the individual portion (2) minimizing the trajectory change induced thereto.

[0162] Both parts of the pulling device (100) are arranged in proximity above a driving part (105) which is in turn arranged in proximity above the pulling device (102).

[0163] According to an advantageous aspect, the pulling device (100) is arranged in a relative position such that the release of the individual portion (2) is provided in a region at least approximately above the pulling device (102), so that it can fall into the latter under the action of gravity.

[0164] Furthermore, it is advantageous when the traction device (100) is configured such that at least one axis of rotation of the traction device (100) is at a horizontal distance (Zi) from the cartridge (3) that does not exceed three times the pitch (p), preferably does not exceed two times the pitch (p).

[0165] Likewise, it is advantageous when the pulling device (100) is configured such that at least one axis of rotation of the pulling device (100) is at a vertical distance (Z2) above the pulling device (102) that does not exceed three times the pitch (p), preferably does not exceed two times the pitch (p).

[0166] Figures 7 and 8 represent embodiments of a system according to the invention, the system comprising retaining elements (101) operable by the traction device (100) of the machine (10) and which can be retained on the support sheets (11, 12) so as to induce traction movement separately to each of them and thus the separation of the support sheets (11, 12) from the successive individual portions (2).

[0167] The separation of the support sheets (11, 12) and release of the individual portion (2) is provided by removing the joining connection between the support sheets (11, 12), this removal being able to be provided only by pulling the support sheets (11, 12) in divergent directions, and, additionally, by direct mechanical action on the mechanical connection regions, preferably in a direction at least approximately parallel to the bisector defined between the support sheets (11, 12) downstream of the separation region.

[0168] The system comprises retaining elements (101), preferably at least two or two pairs, configured so as to induce movement of the portion support (1) so that each retaining element (101) can be retained on a respective support sheet (11, 12).

[0169] Furthermore, the system comprises retaining elements (101) configured operable in a coordinated manner by the machine (10) and thereby providing circulation of the individual portion (2) in a space delimited between the retaining elements (101) upstream of the extraction device (102).

[0170] The system can be configured so that the traction device (100) simultaneously provides the supply of the individual portions (2) to the extraction device (102).

[0171] The traction device (100) is configured in functional connection downstream of actuating means, for example an electric motor, and so that it generates and transmits a rotational movement to at least two rotation axes extending transversely relative to the prevailing direction of movement of the portion support (1).

[0172] According to one aspect of the present invention, the pulling device (100) is configured so that it imparts rotational motion to the retaining shafts (101) so that each support sheet (11, 12) can be pulled and wound onto a respective retaining shaft (101).

[0173] According to a further aspect, the retaining elements (101) are configured so as to provide retention of the downstreammost free end of each support sheet (11, 12) relative to the traction device (100), and / or the transmission of rotational movement from the traction device (100) individually to each support sheet (11, 12), so as to support the removal of the connecting connection between them and thus the separation of the individual portion (2).

[0174] Furthermore, the retaining elements (101) are arranged in a spatial relationship such that they provide for the removal of the connecting connection between the support sheets (11, 12) and concomitant separation and retraction thereof. It is particularly advantageous when the retaining elements (101) are arranged at least approximately parallel to each other and at least approximately parallel to the transverse direction of the support portions upstream of the pulling device (100), preferably also at the outlet of the cartridge case (31).

[0175] In the case of Figure 7, the retaining elements (101) are associated with the supporting sheets (11, 12) on the factory side and retained by means of form gearing in corresponding cavities provided in the traction elements of the traction device (100), so that they provide retention and transmission of rotational movement to the supporting sheets (11, 12).

[0176] As shown, the traction device (100) can actuate the rotation elements (101) in a common or opposite direction of rotation.

[0177] In the case of Figure 8, the system may further include a separation portion (104) configured to exert mechanical action in the separation region between the support sheets (11, 12), as explained above. It is advantageous when the separation portion (104) has a shape that promotes a gradual separation between the support sheets (11, 12). Furthermore, it is further advantageous when the separation portion (104) is arranged in a relative position so as to induce a direction of the support sheets (11, 12) downstream thereof, towards their respective retaining elements (101).

[0178] Furthermore, the retaining elements (101) may have a different transverse dimension, for example a different diameter, so that the support sheets (11, 12) can be moved with the same rotational speed of the drive shafts and different angular velocities, thus different winding speeds, in order to compensate for a greater displacement by one of the support sheets (11, 12) up to the respective retaining element (101).

[0179] Figures 9 and 10 represent embodiments of a support (1) of portions and retaining elements (101) of respective support sheets (11, 12).

[0180] In the case of the embodiment represented in Figure 9, the retaining elements (101) are associated with respective support sheets (11, 12) on the factory side, so that the cartridge (3) comprises the retaining elements (101) retained at free ends of the support (1) of portions in which the support sheets (11, 12) do not have a joining connection to each other.

[0181] The retaining elements (101) may have an elongated and planar shape, and be configured in a more rigid material than the support sheets (11, 12), preferably in a recyclable or compostable material.

[0182] The retaining elements (101) can be joined to the support sheets (11, 12) by means of thermal welding, hot gluing, or similar.

[0183] Alternatively or additionally, the retaining elements (101) may be joined to the support sheets (11, 12) by chemical means, including adhesives or glues, including hot or cold gluing, and / or by mechanical means, including staples, baking or similar.

[0184] Furthermore, in the case shown, the retaining elements (101) are configured so that they can be retained, preferably by male-female gearing, including by form fitting and press fitting, and / or by lap joining, on respective traction elements configured as rotation shafts, associated with parts of the traction device (100).

[0185] The retaining elements (101) may be configured in the form of an elongated element, including in the form of a wedge, and with a shape corresponding to a cavity provided in traction elements associated with parts of the traction device (100), said cavity being preferably configured so that it extends along a longitudinal extension of the traction elements.

[0186] The retaining elements (101) may have a cross-section including a shape from the list that includes circular, triangular, quadrangular or other that presents at least one central axis of symmetry.

[0187] The retention elements (101) may have a cross-sectional dimension smaller than the pitch (p) and smaller than the lateral regions of the retention element (101) and / or the traction device (100).

[0188] It is thus advantageously provided that the user is only required to retain the retaining elements (101) to the traction elements of the traction device (100), so that these traction elements can be non-removably associated with the traction device (100).

[0189] In the case of Figure 10, the retaining elements (101) correspond to the traction elements associated with the traction device (100) of the machine (10), i.e. configured so as to be directly operable by the respective parts of the traction device (100).

[0190] The retaining elements (101) are therefore configured in this case with their own rotation axes, preferably configured with a shape that includes a central axis of symmetry so that they can be operated in rotation around this, and which extend between their respective ends.

[0191] The rotation elements (101) have ends configured so that they can be retained in rotation in solidarity with the rotation movement generated and transmitted by the traction device (100).

[0192] The rotation elements (101) may have ends configured so as to provide retention in the operative position on respective parts of the traction device (100).

[0193] The retaining elements (101) are configured so that, after a magazine (3) is placed in the operating position and a respective portion support (1) is removed from the cartridge box (31), the downstream ends thereof, and preferably previously separated, can be retained by the user in situ at the point of consumption, removably on free ends of respective support strips (11, 12).

[0194] It is advantageous when the traction elements of the traction device (100) are the retaining elements (101), so that the user can retain the support sheets (11, 12) in these in a removable manner.

[0195] Alternatively, the pulling elements are configured so that they provide removable retention of the retaining elements (101) so that they can be moved in rotation. In this case, the retaining elements (101) may be retained to the support sheets (11, 12) from the factory side and contained in the cartridge (3).

[0196] The support strips (11, 12) can be associated with the retaining elements (101) by means of mechanical connection. In particular, as shown, the support strips (11, 12) can have a plurality of holes, preferably provided on the factory side, with a distribution and shape configured so that they can be retained by the user in corresponding projections provided on the retaining elements (101), in this case on the traction elements of the traction device (100).

[0197] The process of operating a system according to the invention may therefore include the steps:

[0198] - manually open a portion of the cartridge box (31) so as to release an exit opening (32);

[0199] - manually pull a downstream end of the portion support (1) out through the outlet opening (32);

[0200] - manually retain the downstream free end of the support sheets (11, 12) in a traction device (100);

[0201] - automatically operating the pulling device (100) so that the portion support (1) is successively pulled out of the cartridge case (31) and the individual portions (2) are successively supplied to the extraction device (102). In particular, and as the above description shows, the process includes the steps:

[0202] - successively supply individual portions (2) to the extraction device (102) already devoid of support sheets (11, 12);

[0203] - collect the support sheets (11, 12) in their entirety, i.e. without altering their general shape, and in roll format.
