Description

Large concrete containers for radioactive waste disposal

[0001] The present invention relates to a large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal, and more particularly, to a large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal configured to be able to precisely move a heavy concrete container containing radioactive waste and to easily and quickly collect samples.

[0002] Radioactive waste generated from nuclear power plants and other sources can cause fatal harm to the human body, so it must be handled safely.

[0003] These radioactive wastes are sealed in steel drums and transported to the disposal site, where they are then sealed in large concrete containers and stored in underground storage facilities.

[0004] The drums can be as large as 200 liters and are stored in two rows and two columns inside a large concrete container.

[0005] However, the large concrete containers in which radioactive waste is stored weigh approximately 6 tons and do not have a separate grip area on the outer wall, so separate auxiliary devices are required for transport or repositioning when storing in a storage facility.

[0006] In addition, in order to collect samples of radioactive waste contained in drums, a concrete lid approximately 15 cm thick must be perforated before collecting samples. Therefore, the concrete perforation work takes a lot of time, making the sampling work difficult and time-consuming.

[0007] The present invention has been proposed to solve the above-mentioned conventional problems, and the purpose of the present invention is to provide a large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal that can precisely move a concrete container containing radioactive waste and easily and quickly collect a sample of radioactive waste stored in a drum.

[0008] The large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal proposed by the present invention is a large concrete container capable of storing multiple drums containing radioactive waste in a storage facility.

[0009] A large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal is provided, in which a penetration is formed in a corresponding direction on both sides of the large concrete container, and an insert structure is provided in the penetration to be used when collecting a sample of radioactive waste contained in the drum.

[0010] At both ends of the above insert structure, auxiliary devices are attached that are used when transporting the large concrete container by a transport means or lifting it by a towing means.

[0011] The above insert structure is formed in the form of a pipe with an empty interior, windows are formed on both sides of the pipe to facilitate collecting samples from inside the drum, and a partition is formed in the inner middle part of the pipe to prevent mixing of samples collected from each drum.

[0012] On both sides of the above pipe, a leakage prevention baffle is formed to prevent secondary waste from leaking due to radioactive waste remaining in the pipe during sample collection.

[0013] A large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal according to the present invention has a penetrating portion formed in the container and an insertion structure provided therein that can be used for positioning the concrete container and collecting samples, so that the concrete container containing radioactive waste can be precisely moved and a radioactive waste sample stored in a drum can be collected simply and quickly.

[0014] Figure 1 is a side view of a large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal according to the present invention.

[0015] Figure 2 is a drawing showing that a penetration is formed in a large concrete container in Figure 1.

[0016] Figure 3 is a drawing showing an insert structure placed in a penetration formed in a large concrete container.

[0017] Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of an assembled insert structure provided in a large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal according to the present invention.

[0018] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawings.

[0019] FIG. 1 is a side view of a large concrete container for radioactive waste disposal according to the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a drawing showing that a penetration portion is formed in the large concrete container in FIG. 1. The large concrete container (2) for radioactive waste disposal according to the present invention can be manufactured in the shape of a hexahedron with an upper surface formed as an open portion using concrete, and a drum (4) containing radioactive waste can be stored inside through the open portion.

[0020] The radioactive waste stored in the drum (4) is composed of solid radioactive waste including high-dose concentrated waste liquid and high-dose waste resin, etc., and such radioactive waste can be stored in the drum (4), sealed, and then transported to a treatment facility, where it can be stored in a large concrete container (2).

[0021] A large concrete container (2) can store four drums (4) in an arrangement of, for example, two rows and two columns. After storing a plurality of drums (4), the upper opening of the concrete container (2) is sealed by covering it with a lid made of concrete, and then transported to a storage facility for storage.

[0022] A penetration portion (6) is formed in the corresponding direction on both sides of the concrete container (2), and an insertion structure (8) used when collecting a sample of radioactive waste contained in a drum (4) as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 is assembled into the penetration portion (6).

[0023] The penetration portion (6) can be formed using coring equipment, etc., or can be formed when manufacturing a large concrete container (2). The penetration portion (6) can be formed on the lower side of the large concrete container (2).

[0024] The insert structure (8) may be formed in the form of a hollow pipe, and a window (10) in the form of a through-hole is formed on both sides of the pipe to easily collect a sample inside the drum (4).

[0025] In this way, a radioactive waste sample contained in a drum (4) can be easily collected using a sampling device through a window (10) formed in the insert structure (8), and even when a small amount of sample is required, additional coring was required in the past, but in the present invention, a small amount of sample can be collected simply and quickly through a window (10) formed in the insert structure (8).

[0026] It is preferable that the windows (10) be formed at 1 / 3 and 2 / 3 points respectively with respect to the entire length of the insert structure (8), because the points are located at the center line of the drum (4), making sample collection easier.

[0027] In addition, a partition wall (12) is formed in the inner middle part of the insert structure (8) so that when collecting samples from each drum (4), the samples are not mixed with each other.

[0028] In addition, a leakage prevention partition (14) is formed on each of the inner ends of the insert structure (8) to prevent secondary waste from leaking due to radioactive waste remaining in the insert structure (8) when collecting a sample.

[0029] Accordingly, the sampling process can be carried out without worrying about sample detachment when collecting samples, and the spread of additional radioactive contamination due to the detachment of secondary waste caused by radioactive waste can be prevented.

[0030] The concrete container (2) in which the drum (4) is stored in this way can be transported to the treatment plant using a transport means, or after transport, it can be lifted by a towing means such as a crane and placed in the treatment plant, or it can be stored in a stacked manner. At this time, an auxiliary device not shown can be combined on both sides of the insert structure (8) so that the concrete container (2) can be easily transported or towed by a transport means or towing means.

[0031] The auxiliary device may be configured to correspond to, for example, a device for facilitating the use of a crane or an end effector provided on a mobile heavy load transporter.

[0032] In particular, when storing a concrete container (2) in a storage facility, it must be transported and towed to ensure that it is placed in an accurate position. However, since the concrete container (2) is a heavy object, such a task is difficult. However, by combining an auxiliary device with an insert structure (8) as in the present invention, for example, a crane wire can be simply and firmly hung on the auxiliary device, allowing the position of the concrete container (2) to be precisely adjusted and placed in an accurate position.

[0033] Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described above for the purpose of illustration, they are not limited thereto, and various modifications may be made within the scope of the claims, the detailed description of the invention, and the attached drawings.
