Abstract
Description
[0001] Coupling piece for coupling a cleaning element to a frame of a cleaning tool, a set of the coupling piece and a cleaning tool and a method for assembly thereof
[0002] The present invention relates to the technical field of cleaning tools, more specifically mops and the interaction with various types of frame, such as mop holders. A technique has been found wherein a simple cleaning element can be used and can be coupled to complex frame types. A technology is further provided for coupling existing cleaning elements such as a cloth to various existing frames of conventional mops.
[0003] Background
[0004] A mop is a cleaning tool which is used for cleaning surfaces such as a floor. The mop typically has a handle (for instance a stick) and a frame (for instance a holder) for holding a cloth. Mops are designed to clean surfaces by mopping, sweeping or scrubbing the surface, depending on the type of mop. Throughout the years, many modifications and improvements have been made to mops, typically in order to provide more refinement and / or more functionalities. This has made the existing frames more complex. The frames from various suppliers typically have their own specific form and / or specific technique for holding the cleaning element, for example a cloth or mophead. This has the result that the cleaning elements now have a complex and / or specific design. This is because the cleaning elements must be designed to be attachable to a determined type of frame. The cleaning elements hereby require more material, and their design is more complex. The cleaning elements are typically the elements requiring most frequent replacement after multiple cleanings. It is therefore desirable to use simple cleaning elements. The complex frames further have the result that customers must purchase specific cleaning elements and / or mops which fit only on a determined type of frame and / or a determined type of cleaning element. The problem thereby occurs that customers are tied to one type of frame and often also to one brand and / or are limited to associated cleaning elements which typically have a complex design because they were designed to fit on a specific type of mop frame.
[0005] An object of embodiments of the invention is to simplify cleaning elements and / or to enable use of simple cleaning elements which are attachable to a frame of a cleaning tool, including more complex frames. The cleaning tool is for instance a mop with a handle and with a mop holder as frame. A further object is to enable a simple cleaning element to be coupled to various frame types.
[0006] For this purpose a first aspect provides a coupling piece, in particular a removable coupling piece, which is configured to couple a cleaning element, such as a cloth or a sponge, to a frame of a cleaning tool, such as a mop. The coupling piece is configured to attach an upper surface of the coupling piece to the frame of the cleaning tool, preferably to attach it removably to the frame. In particular, in this manner, the coupling piece is releasable from the frame of the cleaning tool. The coupling piece is further configured to hold the cleaning element removably on a lower surface of the coupling piece.
[0007] Aspects of the invention are based on the insight that providing the coupling piece between the cleaning element and the cleaning tool thus creates the option of attaching a simple cleaning element to a complex frame. The coupling piece can also be configured in various ways so that it is attachable to the frame of the cleaning tool. The coupling piece can also be configured in various ways so that a simple cleaning element is attachable thereto. It will be apparent that the principle and the insight of using a coupling piece provides many advantages.
[0008] The design of the cleaning element can thus be simple as a result of the coupling piece. This is because the coupling piece can be configured to engage with the complex frame of the cleaning tool (for instance a collapsible frame) while the cleaning element can be easily attached to the lower surface of the coupling piece. The design of the cleaning element can thereby be kept simple. In this way production of the cleaning element can be simplified and the material usage therefor can be reduced. Because the lower surface is configured to hold the cleaning element removably, the cleaning element itself can be cleaned (for instance in a washing machine) or be replaced by a different cleaning element.
[0009] The coupling piece thus fulfils the function of coupling to the frame of the cleaning tool, and thus takes on the complexity. The design of the cleaning element can be greatly simplified hereby. The cleaning element can thus be given a simple configuration. The simple and reusable nature of the cleaning element results in a cost saving over time since it can be washed and repeatedly used and / or replaced in simple manner with less material loss as a result of the use of the coupling piece. The cleaning element can be configured in various ways, the cleaning element preferably being a cloth. The coupling piece for attaching to the frame of the cleaning tool is preferably provided with a first type of attaching mechanism and with a second type of attaching mechanism which differs from the first type of attaching mechanism. Insights have shown that the universal character of the coupling piece can be increased by using different attaching mechanisms. This increases the possibility of connecting the same, preferably simple, cleaning element to different types of frame using the same coupling piece. Furthermore, by providing the attaching mechanisms on the coupling piece it need not be provided on the cleaning element, which enables the design of cleaning element to be simplified. This has the positive effect of a simpler production with less material usage for the cleaning element. It will be apparent that different types of attaching mechanism can be implemented. The first and second type of attaching mechanism can be selected individually from the group of: one or more push buttons, one or more elastic straps, a hook and / or loop system, clips or clamps, a magnet system, a rotary system, an insertion system (for instance comprising frame insertion pockets), an engageable tongue system (for instance comprising attaching tongues) or combinations thereof. The coupling piece preferably has an insertion system with one or more slots into which the frame of the cleaning tool can be inserted. Such slots are also described as frame insertion pockets.
[0010] In an embodiment the first type of attaching mechanism comprises one or two frame pockets which are configured to receive the frame of the cleaning tool. Using the frame pockets the coupling piece can be attached to the frame, typically by sliding wings of the frame into the frame pockets. The first type of attaching mechanism preferably comprises two frame pockets which are arranged on opposite end portions of the upper surface of the coupling piece.
[0011] In an embodiment the second type of attaching mechanism comprises at least one or two engageable attaching tongues. The “engageable” characteristic refers to the ability of the attaching tongues to be gripped or held or clamped by a clamping system of the frame. The attaching tongues are preferably flexible and / or foldable. Flexible and / or foldable attaching tongues can adapt to variations in the size, shape and position of the components of the frame of the cleaning tool to which they are attached. In this way the variety of frames to which the coupling piece can connect is increased.
[0012] In a preferred embodiment the first type of attaching mechanism comprises one or more frame pockets and the second type of attaching mechanism comprises one or more attaching tongues. This combination of attaching mechanisms provides for a high universality of the coupling piece, so that users are able to connect the cleaning element to a wide range of mops. The cleaning element can further be given a simple design.
[0013] A plurality of hooks are preferably arranged on the lower surface of the coupling piece in order to hold the cleaning element removably. The hooks on the coupling piece can engage and hold the cleaning element in simple manner in a way in which the cleaning element is also easily removable. The hooks are preferably arranged so that they form on the lower surface of the coupling piece a hook side for holding a loop side on the cleaning element.
[0014] It has been considered that the hooks can be arranged on the coupling piece and / or on the lower surface in various arrangements. A higher hook density can thus for instance be opted for in areas where a greater connecting strength is required, while other areas may have a more sparing placement of hooks. The plurality of hooks are preferably arranged on substantially the whole lower surface of the coupling piece, so that the whole lower surface is provided with hooks for firmly engaging the cleaning element. This ensures that the cleaning element remains firmly in place during cleaning and washing of surfaces.
[0015] It will be apparent that the coupling piece differs from the frame of the cleaning tool. Existing frames are typically rigid, the coupling piece is preferably less rigid and / or the coupling piece preferably has a foldable configuration.
[0016] The coupling piece preferably has a three-dimensional structure which is substantially flat in extended state. The coupling piece thus forms a flat structure with a limited thickness (ti), which is preferably limited to a maximum of 4 cm, preferably a maximum of 2 cm, more preferably a maximum of 1 cm. The coupling piece preferably has a flat structure in a form corresponding with that of the side of the frame of the cleaning means to which the coupling piece is coupled, as seen from a top view, such as for instance a substantially rectangular form. The top view reveals the side intended to be coupled to the frame of the cleaning tool. The lower side of the coupling piece is the side which is intended to be directed toward the surface to be cleaned. The thickness (ti) is preferably smaller than 4 cm, preferably smaller than 2.5 cm, more preferably smaller than 2 cm, still more preferably smaller than 1 .5 cm. In determined embodiments the flat structure of the coupling piece has the same form as the frame of the cleaning tool, typically a substantially rectangular structure. There can nevertheless be embodiments wherein the coupling piece has a circular or polygonal form as seen in top view, for instance a circle, a triangle or a hexagon, depending on the type of frame. The reference to “substantially flat structure" describes the characteristic of the coupling piece which is substantially flat, as seen three-dimensionally. This facilitates easy cleaning and washing with the cleaning tool when the cleaning element is connected to the cleaning tool.
[0017] Preferably, the upper surface of the coupling piece is substantially flat in coupled state and extends parallel to a lower surface of the frame. In this way a desired convenience of use during cleaning is achieved. The coupled state refers to the state in which the coupling piece is coupled to the frame of the cleaning tool. The frame of the cleaning tool typically has a lower surface which is substantially flat. The term "substantially flat" suggests that the surface has minimal or no disruptions (relief elements). The upper surface of the coupling piece preferably extends parallel to a lower surface of the frame in coupled state and during cleaning. Because the upper surface extends parallel to the lower surface of the frame, a desired control over the cleaning element during cleaning is ensured.
[0018] The coupling piece is preferably layer-like so that it forms a layered structure with the frame, and optionally the cleaning element, in coupled state.
[0019] The coupling piece is preferably formed as a substantially flat three-dimensional structure with a thickness (ti) which is smaller than 4 cm, preferably smaller than 2.5 cm, more preferably smaller than 2 cm, still more preferably smaller than 1 .5 cm. Limiting the thickness improves control over the cleaning element during holding and cleaning with the cleaning tool.
[0020] According to an embodiment, a plurality of hooks are arranged on the upper surface of the coupling piece for the purpose of engaging at least a part of a cloth or other type of cleaning element. Additionally or alternatively, a plurality of hooks are arranged on one or more sides of the coupling piece for the purpose of engaging at least a part of a cloth or other type of cleaning element. Arranging hooks on the upper surface and / or on the sides increases the effectiveness of cleaning with the cleaning tool. Some surfaces, such as corners and edges, are difficult to clean. The hooks on the side allow a part of the cleaning element, such as a cloth, also to be attached there. The cleaning element on the side and / or upper side can thus reach difficult-to-access areas and remove dirt and stains effectively. An improved attachment to the coupling piece is furthermore provided for by arranging the cloth, or other type of cleaning element, on the upper side of the coupling piece.
[0021] The coupling piece has an upper surface and a lower surface. The upper surface is typically the side directed toward the frame of the cleaning tool during cleaning. The lower surface is the side directed toward the surface to be cleaned. The coupling piece typically has sides which connect (upper) edges of the upper surface to (lower) edges of the lower surface.
[0022] According to an embodiment, the lower surface of the coupling piece is limited by a plurality of lower edges. The hooks can be arranged on the lower surface of the coupling piece in any suitable manner. A plurality of hooks are preferably arranged on a folded layer which is folded over at least one of the lower edges, such that hooks are present on a side of the coupling piece. In this way the hooks can be arranged in a reliable manner in respect of production engineering. Hooks are thus further provided on the sides so that a cleaning element, such as a cloth, can also be attached to the sides. In this way more areas can be reached for cleaning during cleaning with the cleaning tool. As alternative or in addition to the hooks on the side(s) and / or lower surface of the coupling piece, hooks can be provided on the upper surface of the coupling piece for the purpose of engaging a cloth. The coupling piece can firmly grip the cloth with the hooks on the upper surface.
[0023] According to an embodiment, the upper surface of the coupling piece is limited by a plurality of upper edges, for instance a first, second, third and fourth upper edge, and while the lower surface is limited by a corresponding first, second, third and fourth lower edge.
[0024] The folded layer is preferably folded with the plurality of hooks over the lower edge and a corresponding upper edge such that the folded layer is folded over both the lower edge and upper edge. In this way hooks can be attached firmly to the coupling piece. The plurality of hooks are preferably distributed over the folded layer so that hooks are present on the side and / or the upper surface of the coupling piece. The cleaning element can thus be held firmly in place. This prevents the cleaning element from coming loose during use. In addition, the cleaning element can thus be attached to the side for the purpose of an optimal cleaning capacity.
[0025] The plurality of hooks on the lower surface of the coupling piece further provide for an easy and rapid replacement of the cleaning element, such as a cloth. This minimizes the downtime during cleaning, since users want to attach a new cloth and continue cleaning quickly and efficiently.
[0026] Frames of cleaning tools, such as mops, can be configured as collapsible frames. Such frames have the advantage that they can be easily immersed in collapsed state, for instance by placing the collapsed frame into a bucket with cleaning liquid. Such a collapsible frame makes cleaning more effective and easier.
[0027] The coupling piece preferably has a foldable configuration so that the coupling piece folds along during deformation and / or collapsing of the frame of the cleaning tool. Insights have shown that configuring the coupling piece such that the coupling piece is also applicable to collapsible frames, preserves the efficiency of these collapsible frame systems. Cleaning can be made more effective and easier in this way, as well as with a cleaning element of simple design, such as a simple cloth. The foldable configuration is possible in various ways, several of these ways being discussed further.
[0028] In an embodiment the coupling piece can have one first end portion and a second end portion. A folding line can be provided between the end portions in order to facilitate folding of the coupling piece. The coupling piece can thus be applied to a collapsible frame. Owing to the fold line, the coupling piece (and typically also the cleaning element) folds along during collapsing of the collapsible frame. Cleaning can be made more effective and easier in this way. For instance by facilitating wringing out of the cleaning element and / or by easier immersion of the cleaning element or insertion of the cleaning element into a bucket with cleaning agent.
[0029] In an embodiment the coupling piece is provided with one or more engageable attaching tongues having one or more openings, such as perforations, for receiving one or more pin elements of the frame of the cleaning tool. In this way the coupling piece can be firmly attached to the frame of the cleaning tool for the purpose of a reliable operation during cleaning. It is particularly in the case of a mop with a collapsible frame that a firm attachment is desirable. The openings in the attaching tongues ensure that the coupling piece is firmly attachable to the frame.
[0030] The coupling piece can comprise one or more layers, for instance a base layer and a layer with hooks which is attached to the lower surface and optionally also to the upper surface and / or the sides. Constructing the coupling piece from a plurality of layers enables the piece to be manufactured in an advantageous manner in respect of production engineering. The base layer forms a favourable base for arranging attaching mechanisms on, such as the frame insertion pockets and / or the engageable attaching tongues.
[0031] In a preferred embodiment the coupling piece comprises a base layer wherein the first type of attaching mechanism and / or the second type of attaching mechanism is arranged on the base layer. In this way the coupling piece can be manufactured in simple manner. The base layer is preferably a flexible base layer, for instance a textile base layer. The flexible characteristic indicates that the base layer is able to bend, stretch or deform along without permanent damage during arranging of the coupling piece and / or during wringing out of the cleaning element and / or coupling piece, for instance by means of a collapsible frame. The flexibility of the base layer provides advantages, such as the ability to wring out the coupling piece during cleaning thereof. In addition, the base layer can be configured to deform along when the frame, such as a collapsible frame, deforms. This provides for an improved convenience of use during cleaning.
[0032] The first attaching mechanism and / or the second attaching mechanism is preferably arranged on the base layer using a connection selected from: an adhesive connection, a sewn connection, a fused connection or combinations thereof. In this way the attaching mechanisms are firmly connected to the coupling piece in order to realize sustainable use of the coupling piece in the longer term. This is because the adhesive, sewn and fused connections provide a reliable and durable connection between the attaching mechanism and the base layer of the coupling piece, so that the coupling piece can be used repeatedly. The first and / or the second type of attaching mechanism can additionally or alternatively also be configured integrally with the base layer, for instance by forming the base layer together with the engageable attaching tongues from the same integral layer. The integral layer can for instance be cut out so that the first and / or the second type of attaching mechanism and the base layer are manufactured from the same piece.
[0033] A further aspect provides a cleaning set. The set can be assembled into a cleaning device for cleaning with. The set comprises a cleaning tool, such as a mop, and a coupling piece, preferably the coupling piece with one or more features as described above. The cleaning tool has a frame, typically a plate-like frame and / or a collapsible frame. The coupling piece is configured to attach an upper surface of the coupling piece removably to the frame of the cleaning tool. The coupling piece is further configured to hold the cleaning element removably on a lower surface of the coupling piece. This makes it possible to use the coupling piece to couple a cleaning element of simple design to a complex frame of the cleaning tool. The frame of the cleaning tool typically has a predetermined design for engaging and / or receiving predetermined and corresponding cleaning elements. This limits users in their selection of mop and / or selection of cleaning element. The predetermined design of the frame of the cleaning tool furthermore typically requires a more complex design of the cleaning element, for instance a cloth having to be provided with insertion pockets for attaching the cloth to the frame. Using the coupling piece as described here enables use of simpler cleaning elements (for instance a simple cloth without insertion pockets) which can be attached to the frame of a mop, including more complex frames, using the coupling piece.
[0034] In an embodiment the frame of the cleaning tool is provided with a coupling system, such as a clamping mechanism or one or two insertion wings. The coupling piece is preferably provided with two different attaching mechanisms, more specifically a first type of attaching mechanism and a second type of attaching mechanism which differs from the first type of attaching mechanism. At least one of the first and the second attaching mechanism is preferably configured to attach the coupling piece to the frame, typically via the coupling system on the frame. The universal character of the coupling piece can be increased by using different attaching mechanisms. This increases the possibility of connecting the cleaning element to different types of frame using the same coupling piece. In addition, the use of the coupling piece has the result that a cleaning element of simple design can be used, preferably a simple cloth. Material usage and production complexity can thus be reduced in the manufacture of the cleaning element.
[0035] More specifically, at least one of the first and the second attaching mechanism of the coupling piece is configured to interact with the coupling system of the frame so that the coupling piece is attachable thereto. According to an embodiment, the coupling system of the frame comprises insertion wings for sliding into a coupling piece insertion pocket and / or one or more clamps for engaging coupling piece attaching tongues.
[0036] In an embodiment the frame of the cleaning tool is configured as a collapsible holder and the coupling piece takes a foldable form so that the coupling piece folds or deforms along during collapsing of the collapsible holder of the cleaning tool. The “collapsible holder” (also referred to here as “collapsible frame”) makes cleaning more effective and easier. Giving the coupling piece a foldable configuration enables it to deform along in a desired manner during collapsing of the collapsible holder, so that the cleaning element on the coupling piece can be subjected to wringing out and / or submersion more easily.
[0037] The collapsible holder or collapsible frame can have two end wings which lie opposite each other and are individually attached to an intermediate piece in pivotable manner. This embodiment makes it possible for the end wings of the holder to collapse toward each other. In a collapsed mode it is easier to immerse the holder to which the cleaning element is coupled via the coupling piece, for instance by placing the whole in a bucket.
[0038] The coupling piece preferably comprises one, preferably at least two, engageable attaching tongues. The frame of the cleaning tool is preferably provided with a coupling system comprising one or more clamps which are configured to engage and clamp the attaching tongues of the coupling piece. In this way the coupling piece can be attached firmly to the frame. It is further not necessary for any attaching tongues to be arranged on the cleaning element itself. The cleaning element can thus be given a simpler design and be connected to the coupling piece, preferably by means of a plurality of hooks.
[0039] The cleaning element is preferably a cloth, more specifically a cloth without insertion pockets and / or attaching tongues. The cloth can be selected from the group comprising: a dust cloth, a microfibre cloth, a disposable cloth, a scrubbing cloth, a polishing cloth, a disinfecting cloth, a cotton cloth or combinations thereof. The cloth is preferably configured and / or has already been configured to be engaged by a plurality of hooks of the coupling piece.
[0040] A further aspect provides a method for assembling a cleaning tool, such as a mop. The method comprises here of:
[0041] - providing a cleaning tool, such as a conventional mop with a frame;
[0042] - providing a coupling piece;
[0043] - coupling a cleaning element, such as a cloth or a sponge, to the cleaning tool using the coupling piece on the frame of the cleaning tool, such as the conventional mop.
[0044] This aspect is also based on the fact that the cleaning element can be simplified by using a coupling piece. The coupling piece particularly takes on the function of interacting with the frame of the cleaning tool. The design of the cleaning element can be kept simple hereby. The coupling piece can have one or more of the above described features and associated advantages.
[0045] The method preferably comprises of holding the cleaning element using one or more hooks of the coupling piece. In this way the cleaning element can be coupled to the coupling piece in simple manner. The design of the cleaning element can furthermore remain simple. This enables the production costs to be reduced. In addition, less material is lost if the cleaning element is replaced after some time. The coupling piece is preferably provided with a first type of attaching mechanism and a second type of attaching mechanism which differs from the first type of attaching mechanism. The action of attaching the coupling piece preferably comprises of: - attaching the coupling piece to the frame of the cleaning tool, such as a frame of a conventional mop, using at least one of the attaching mechanisms.
[0046] It should be noted that the aspects in respect of the coupling piece or the aspects comprising a coupling piece as described here are applicable to different cleaning tools. More specifically, the cleaning tool is preferably selected from a swab, a mop, a wiper, a floor wiper, a broom. The cleaning tool is preferably a mop.

[0066] Detailed
[0067] Figure 1 illustrates schematically a cleaning tool M according to the prior art. Various types of mop have been developed by now. Different types of mop typically have a handle H and their own frame F with a predetermined design, each with its own connecting means K for holding a cloth D. The cloth D must for this purpose have a corresponding configuration. This has the result that a complex design of cloth D is necessary, since the cloth D must interact with the connecting means K of the frame F. Since the cloth D is an element that is most frequently replaced, a complex cloth design is less desirable. This is because low material loss and a simple production design are desirable factors. The frame F of the cleaning tool M is the component that is configured to hold the conventional cloths. The frame F is also referred to as “a holder”, in the case of a mop cloth the frame is referred to as a “mop holder”. The frame differs from the coupling piece 10 described below in that the coupling piece 10 is configured to interact with the frame. The implementation of the coupling piece provides the advantage that a cloth with simple design can be used, preferably on different types of frame.
[0068] Figure 2A shows a coupling piece 10, a cleaning tool 300 and a cloth 400. These elements thus form a cleaning set 500. The cleaning tool 300 has a handle 301 and a frame 310. The handle 301 can be connected fixedly or pivotally to the frame 310. Frame 310 is typically a plate frame and is also referred to as holder or mop holder. As indicated above, the aspects described here are applicable to many cleaning tools with a frame configured to hold a cleaning element.
[0069] Examples of such cleaning tools are a mop, a floor mop, a wiper, a floor wiper, a swab and the like. The cleaning tool will be referred to hereinafter with the term mop. It should further be noted that the aspects described here can be used to couple different types of cleaning element to the frame. Examples of cleaning elements are a cloth or a sponge. Figures 2 and beyond show a cloth 400 as the cleaning element, a cloth being preferred here but the cleaning element not being limited thereto. Using the coupling piece 10 allows the design of the cloth 400 to be kept simple while cloth 400 can still be easily connected to frame 310 in removable manner, particularly by means of coupling piece 10.
[0070] Coupling piece 10 is configured to couple cloth 400 to frame 310. Coupling piece 10 has an upper surface 100 and a lower surface 200. The upper surface is attachable to the frame 310. The upper surface is preferably attachable in removable manner. This enables the coupling piece to be cleaned when necessary. The coupling piece is further configured to hold the cloth removably on the lower surface 200 of the coupling piece. The lower surface can thereby be configured in any suitable manner. In an embodiment the lower surface of coupling piece 10 has an attaching mechanism 210. Various mechanisms for holding the cloth are possible here, at least the lower surface 200 of coupling piece 10 is preferably configured with a plurality of hooks 210 which are able to engage and removably hold the cloth 400.
[0071] Figure 2A further shows that coupling piece 10 is provided with a first type of attaching mechanism 110 and a second type of attaching mechanism 120. The mechanisms differ from each other so that the coupling piece can be attached to various types of frame 310.
[0072] It is possible to envisage that various attaching mechanisms can be used to attach the coupling piece 10 to the frame 310 of mop 300. An example is a hook and loop system (not shown), wherein hook and loop fastening tape is arranged on both the frame and the coupling piece so that they adhere firmly to each other. Coupling piece 10 can also be provided with elastic straps (not shown) which are arranged on coupling piece 10 in order to connect this coupling piece 10 to the frame 310. Other systems, such as push buttons, a hook and / or loop system, clamps, a magnet system, a rotary system, an insertion system, an engageable tongue system or combinations thereof, are also possible. The coupling piece can therefore be configured in various ways to connect the upper surface of the coupling piece to the frame of the cleaning tool.
[0073] At least one of the attaching mechanisms 1 10 preferably comprises an insertion system and the second attaching mechanism 120 comprises an engageable tongue system. As shown in figure 2A, the first type of attaching mechanism 1 10 comprises two frame insertion pockets 1 10. The frame insertion pockets 110 are configured to receive and hold the insertion wings 350 of frame 310. Coupling piece 10 is preferably manufactured from a stretchable material so that the coupling piece has a stretchable characteristic. The use of a stretchable material for coupling piece 10 facilitates insertion of frame 310 into the insertion pockets 1 10. In an embodiment the stretchable material has been selected from a stretch fabric, an elastomer, neoprene or combinations thereof.
[0074] As shown in figure 2A, the second type of attaching mechanism 120 comprises two engageable attaching tongues. One or more attaching tongues can be arranged on coupling piece 10, preferably at least two. The attaching tongues 120 can be arranged such that they are oriented in the longitudinal direction of coupling piece 10 in an extended, flat state of coupling piece 10 (see fig. 5B) and / or can be arranged such that they are oriented in a transverse direction in an extended, flat state of coupling piece 10 (see fig. 6).
[0075] Coupling piece 10 is preferably provided on the lower surface with a plurality of hooks 210 which are arranged to engage cloth 400, so that the cloth is removably attachable to the coupling piece. The terms "lower surface" and "upper surface" here generally refer to two opposite surfaces of the coupling piece. The lower surface is the side of the coupling piece which is intended to be directed toward the surface to be cleaned. The upper surface is intended to be directed toward the frame.
[0076] Various types of mop frame are discussed here. Several examples thereof are shown in the figures, a first type of frame thus makes use of inserting wings (see figures 1 , 2). A second type of frame is based on clamping systems (figures 3, 4, 8 and 9). It will therefore be apparent that the frame of the cleaning tool can be configured in various ways. The coupling piece 10 is configured to be connected removably to the frame 310 of the cleaning tool 300, particularly to connect the upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10 removably to the frame 310. Coupling piece 10 can for this purpose be configured in various ways, depending on the type of frame.
[0077] The coupling piece is preferably generally provided with one or more, preferably a plurality of, attaching mechanisms which are each individually configured to attach the coupling piece to a determined frame type, preferably to attach the coupling piece removably. The attaching mechanisms preferably differ from each other so that the coupling piece can be attached to multiple frame types. This increases the universal character of the coupling piece. “Attaching removably" typically refers to mutual attachment such that relevant components co-act, and in a manner which can be released easily and without permanent damage when necessary. The removable aspect of the coupling piece ensures that users are able to switch between different frames of different cleaning tools for different tasks or conditions in simple manner, this increasing the convenience of use. Coupling piece 10 is further configured to hold cleaning element 400 removably on a lower surface 200 of the coupling piece. In this removable manner cleaning element 400 can be replaced when necessary in simple manner.
[0078] Figure 2A further shows that the frame 310 of cleaning tool 300 has a lower surface 310 which is substantially flat. The upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10 is preferably substantially flat in coupled state (as shown in fig. 2B). In the coupled state the upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10 extends parallel to a lower surface 312 of frame 310. In this way a desired convenience of use during cleaning is achieved.
[0079] Figure 2B shows an example wherein the cloth 400 is attached to the coupling piece 10 by means of a plurality of hooks 210 which are arranged on the lower surface of coupling piece 10. Hooks 210 can be arranged in the manner of a hook layer 210a which is attached to a base layer 10a of the coupling piece, which arrangement has advantages in respect of production engineering. The hook layer 210a is preferably a folded layer, which layer typically comprises a carrier layer to which a plurality of hooks are attached. Various types of hook can be used, as long as they are able to engage the cleaning element. The plurality of hooks 210 are preferably chosen from micro hooks. The micro hooks refer to hook-like structures which can be used as hook and loop fastening tape and / or as a self-adhesive systems. The hooks 210 are arranged on the coupling piece 10 so that the hooks, loops or other surface structures of the cleaning element 400 engage such that a temporary connection is created.
[0080] Figure 2B further shows that coupling piece 10 is attached to the frame 310 of cleaning tool 300 by means of an attaching mechanism 1 10 which comprises a plurality of insertion pockets (see insertion pockets 110a, 110b). Figure 2B thus shows a cleaning set 500 of a mop 300 and the coupling piece 10 in an assembled state. The set preferably further comprises the cleaning element 400, preferably a cloth. As shown, coupling piece 10 is further provided with a second type of attaching mechanism 120, which differs from the first type of attaching mechanism 110. The second type of attaching mechanism 120 as shown comprises two attaching tongues 120a, 120b which can be engaged by clamps (not shown) of a frame 310 of a mop 300 (see fig. 3). Figure 2B shows that the coupling piece 10 is attached removably to the frame 310 of the cleaning tool 300, more particularly, the upper surface 100 of the coupling piece is attached to frame 310 so that the upper surface 100 lies substantially parallel to the lower surface of frame 310. This results in a desired pressure distribution during cleaning.
[0081] Figure 3 illustrates a mop 300 which differs from the mop shown in figures 2A and 2B. The mop 300 has a frame 310a provided with a clamping system 351 which functions as coupling system 350. Such a coupling system 350 of the frame 310 can be configured to engage a conventional cleaning element. For this purpose conventional cleaning elements must be provided with engageable elements, making them more complex to manufacture. The inventor has recognized that, by using a coupling piece 10, the design of the cleaning element 400 can be kept simple while use can still be made of more complex frames (such as collapsible frames) and the advantages associated therewith by means of using the coupling piece 10. Figure 3 shows in the same way as described above that the coupling piece 10 is configured to connect the cleaning element 400 to the frame 310 of the mop. The handle 301 of the mop 300 shown in figure 3 is connected pivotally to frame 310. The handle 301 of the mop 300 can however generally be connected fixedly or movably to frame 310, depending on the type of cleaning tool. The handle can be a short stick with a size corresponding to a hand, or can take the form of a long stick, for instance in cases of floor wipers or floor mops.
[0082] Figure 4B shows that the frame 310 according to figure 3 is configured as a collapsible holder 310a. Such holders are already commercially available. Coupling piece 10 preferably has a foldable configuration so that the coupling piece folds along during collapsing of the holder, an example of which is shown with reference to figures 4A and 4B. As shown in figure 3, coupling piece 10 is further provided with engageable attaching tongues 120 and / or frame insertion pockets 110. These can be engaged by the clamps 351 a, 351 b of clamping system 351 on frame 310. The engageable attaching tongues 120 have the advantage that they can be held easily and firmly. The attaching tongues are preferably manufactured from a flexible and / or bendable material to enhance firm clamping. Attaching tongues 120 further ensure that coupling piece 10 remains properly connected to the collapsible frame 310 during collapsing thereof. Coupling piece 10 with cleaning element 400 can hereby be immersed in a cleaning liquid easily and reliably.
[0083] Figures 4A and 4B illustrate an example wherein a foldable coupling piece 10 is attached to a collapsible frame 310a. The frame 310a as shown has two end wings 31 1 , 312 which lie opposite each other and which are attached to an intermediate piece 313 for individual pivoting. Numerous hinging mechanisms and techniques can however be used to collapse the frame. This is because collapsible frames have the advantage that they can be immersed in a cleaning liquid more easily.
[0084] Making the coupling piece 10 foldable can be done in various ways, for instance by manufacturing the coupling piece 10 from foldable materials, so that they fold along during collapsing of the collapsible holder 310a (see fig. 4B) or for instance by manufacturing coupling piece 10 from rigid components which can fold toward each other via a fold line.
[0085] Coupling piece 10 can be provided with a fold line 13, the fold line preferably being arranged such that a central part of the coupling piece folds downward while the end portions 11 , 12 of coupling piece 10 remain attached to the frame 310a. Figures 4A and 4B illustrate that the end portions 11 , 12 of coupling piece 10 are attached by means of attaching tongues 120a, 120b. Figure 4B further shows that coupling piece 10 folds downward and cleaning element 400 remains attached to the lower surface 200 by means of the plurality of hooks 210.
[0086] The coupling piece can also comprise two components 11 , 12, optionally two rigid components or two bendable components, which are connected to each other via a flexible connection (for instance at the position of a fold line 13), so that the components can fold toward each other during collapsing of frame 310a. Coupling piece 10 can thus comprise a folding system which is configured to fold end portions 11 and 13 of coupling piece 10 toward each other during collapsing of the collapsible holder 310a.
[0087] For the purpose of a firm attachment of cleaning element 400 hooks 211 are preferably arranged on one or more of the sides of the coupling piece (see fig. 10A and 10B). The sides refer to the sides between upper surface 100 and lower surface 200 of coupling piece 10. For the purpose of a firm attachment of cleaning element 400, hooks 211 are preferably additionally (see fig. 6) or alternatively arranged on the upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10.
[0088] Figure 5A shows the cross-section through the section line AA shown in figure 5B. Figure 5A shows the coupling piece 10 with upper surface 100 which is provided with engageable attaching tongues 120a, 120b. The coupling piece is further provided with frame insertion pockets 1 10a, 110b. This combination of attaching tongues and insertion pockets makes coupling piece 10 widely applicable to different types of frame. The attaching tongues can be provided with one or more perforations 124, as shown in figure 5B. The perforations 124 can be configured to interact with the frame. Perforations 124 can for instance be configured to receive pin elements of the frame for the purpose of a firm attachment of coupling piece 10 to the frame.
[0089] Coupling piece 10 can be manufactured as a layered structure, i.e. the structure comprises one or more layers. Figure 5A shows an example wherein coupling piece 10 comprises a base layer 10a to which a layer with hooks 20a (also described as hook layer 20a) is attached. Furthermore, the base layer 10a of coupling piece 10 comprises or the base layer 10a of coupling piece 10 is provided with the frame insertion pockets 110a, 110b and the engageable attaching tongues 120a, 120b. Such a layered structure has advantages in respect of production engineering during manufacture of the coupling piece. The hook layer 20a can be folded around edges of the coupling piece (see fig. 6) so that hooks are present on the side 32 and / or the upper side 100 of coupling piece 10. A cloth 400 can hereby be attached more firmly, such a firm connection being particularly desirable in use of collapsible frames.
[0090] Figure 5A further illustrates that coupling piece 10 preferably has a three-dimensional structure which is substantially flat in extended state. The "extended state" describes the state in which coupling piece 10 has reached its maximum length or size, without any bending, curving or deformation. In the case of fig. 5A the attaching tongues 120a, 120b are placed flat and level so that coupling piece 10 is preferably almost flat in such a state, which suggests that it has few or no curves or bends when coupling piece 10 and attaching tongues 120a, 120b are fully extended. The coupling piece thus forms a substantially flat structure with a limited thickness ti. This thickness is preferably smaller than 4 cm, more preferably smaller than 3.5 cm, still more preferably smaller than 3 cm, even more preferably smaller than 2.5 cm, most preferably smaller than 1 .5 cm. The substantially flat structure of coupling piece 10 with limited thickness provides for a desired control during cleaning.
[0091] Figure 6 illustrates a top view of a coupling piece 10 according to an embodiment with the difference (compared to fig. 5B) that the engageable attaching tongues 120a - 120d are arranged such that they extend in transverse direction of coupling piece 10 in extended state. In this embodiment at least two engageable attaching tongues 120a, 120c and 120b, 120d are preferably arranged on each end portion 1 1 , 12 of coupling piece 10, this so that the engageable attaching tongues extend outward, away from the longitudinal axis of coupling piece 10, in extended state.
[0092] Figure 6 further shows longitudinal edges 21 , 22, which run parallel to the longer dimension of coupling piece 10. The figure further shows transverse edges 23, 24, which lie perpendicularly of the longitudinal direction and extend over the wider side of the coupling piece. Hook layer 20a is preferably folded over at least one of these edges, preferably at least the transverse edges and / or the longitudinal edges. The folding provides for and facilitates a better attachment. Figure 6 shows an example wherein hook layer 20a is folded over the transverse edges 23, 24 of coupling piece 10.
[0093] Figure 7A illustrates a top view of a mop 300 with frame 310. The shown frame has two insertion wings 353 which function as a coupling system 350 of the frame.
[0094] Figure 7B illustrates that the wings of frame 310 have been slid into the insertion pockets 110a, 1 10b of coupling piece 10. By means of the engageable attaching tongues 121 a, 121 b the same coupling piece 10 can also be used for interacting with other frames, so that a cleaning element can also be provided on other frames using coupling piece 10. The attaching tongues 121 a, 121 b can generally be provided with an adhering system and / or engaging system (not shown) so that they are able to adhere to the upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10, for instance using a hook and loop fastening tape, during cleaning. In this way the attaching tongues remain properly in place during cleaning, this enhancing the convenience of use of the whole cleaning tool. This is for instance advantageous in a case where a frame is attached via the insertion pockets and the attaching tongues perform no active attaching function in that case.
[0095] Figure 7C illustrates a top view of only the coupling piece which is shown in figure 7B. One or more markings 20, which facilitate placing and coupling of frame 310 on and to the upper surface, are optionally provided on the upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10.
[0096] Figure 8A illustrates a top view of a mop 300 with frame 310 comprising a clamping system 351 which functions as the coupling system 350 of frame 310, the clamping system having two clamps 351 a, 351 b which are configured to engage and to clamp the attaching tongues 121 a, 121 b of coupling piece 10. In this way the coupling piece can be firmly attached to the frame. The frame 310 comprising the clamps is preferably configured as a collapsible holder as described above in connection to fig. 4A - 4B.
[0097] Figure 8B illustrates a top view wherein the mop 300 is attached to coupling piece 10 via the frame 310. The clamps 351 a, 351 b engage the attaching tongues 121 a, 121 b. It is also possible that only the frame insertion pockets are present and that the clamps of the frame are configured to engage an upper side of the frame insertion pockets of the coupling piece. Figure 9A illustrates a top view of a mop 300 with frame 310 comprising a plurality of clamps 351 a, 351 b on the upper surface of the frame. The clamps comprise flexible clamping teeth which extend toward a central point. Figures 9B and 9C show respectively a top view and a side view. Coupling piece 10 is attached to the frame 310 in that attaching tongues 121 a, 121 b have been pushed into the clamps.
[0098] Figure 10A illustrates a top view of a coupling piece 10 and figure 10B illustrates a cross- sectional view along section line XX shown in figure 10A. Coupling piece 10 is provided with two different attaching mechanisms 120, 110 for attaching the coupling piece to a frame 310. In the shown embodiment coupling piece 10 comprises two frame insertion pockets 110 and two attaching tongues 120. Coupling piece 10 is hereby attachable to various types of frame 310 of a cleaning tool, including collapsible holders 310a as described above. The attaching mechanisms 120, 1 10 of coupling piece 10 can be arranged in any suitable manner, preferably as long as upper surface 100 is attachable to the frame.
[0099] The cleaning tool 300 is preferably a mop, more preferably a floor mop. Figure 10A further shows that the coupling piece comprises a plurality of hooks 210 which are arranged at least on the lower surface 200 of the coupling piece. Hooks 210 are further preferably arranged on the sides of coupling piece 10 in order to provide an improved attachment to a cloth 400; and / or hooks are preferably arranged on the upper surface 100 of coupling piece 10. In the embodiment shown in figure 10B hooks 210 arranged by means of a folded hook layer 210a which is folded over side edges 201 , 202 (both lower and upper edges) of coupling piece 10. The folded layer with hooks is preferably folded over at least one of the edges, preferably at least two of the edges, more preferably at least two edges lying opposite each other, such as the two longitudinal edges 201 , 202.
[0100] The cleaning element 400 is preferably selected from a sponge or a cloth, such as a dust cloth and / or a microfibre cloth.
[0101] The skilled person will appreciate on the basis of the above description that the aspects of the invention can be embodied in different ways and on the basis of different principles.
