Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] TITLE: ASSEMBLY COMPRISING A CONTAINER FOR STORING A FIRST FLUID AND A CARTRIDGE FOR STORING A SECOND FLUID

[0003] Field of invention

[0004] The invention relates to an assembly comprising a container for storing a first fluid and a cartridge for storing a second fluid, said container being provided with an opening for filling and emptying the container, the cartridge comprising a chamber for storing a second fluid, said cartridge being adapted to be received inside the opening of said container.

[0005] The cartridge comprises first and second members together defining a chamber for receiving a second fluid. The first and second members of the cartridge are movable from a first position of said cartridge, allowing the fluid to be stored within the chamber, said first and second members defining, according to said first position, a chamber having a first volume. The first and second members are movable, from said first position, to a second position of the cartridge in order to release the second fluid from the chamber to the container. The first and second members define, according to the second position, a second volume, less than the first volume.

[0006] The invention aims to provide the possibility of storing a first fluid inside a container and simultaneously storing a second fluid different from the first fluid inside said container, while avoiding any contact between the two fluids. At a time chosen by the user, the cartridge is moved from its first position, in which the second fluid can be stored, to its second position, at which said second fluid can be released inside the container. This means that the two fluids can be mixed inside said container, and only at the time chosen by the user and at no other time. State of the art

[0007] In the state of the art, it is known to use an assembly composed of a container and a cartridge as detailed above. An assembly of this type is used, for example, in the pharmaceutical field or in the cosmetics field. The assembly can be used for mixing a first and a second fluid, said mixing being carried out just before its use by the user.

[0008] Separating the two fluids during storage and transportation helps preserve and / or optimize the effectiveness of the active ingredients present inside the container. The user can thus decide when to mix the two fluids and use the resulting mixture.

[0009] According to the assemblies known from the prior art, the cartridge is, as a rule, provided with a frangible striker element, such as a membrane. In order to release the second fluid and allow the first and second fluids to mix, the striker is generally moved from a first position to a second position in order to allow the opening, rupture and / or cracking of said frangible element to thereby release the second fluid inside the container.

[0010] The known assemblies of the prior art are limited by the complexity of their production, their operation and the possibility of storing and protecting, in an optimal manner, the first and second fluids in the container before their use.

[0011] For the reasons set out above, there is a need to propose new solutions. Thus, the aim of the assembly according to the present invention is to offer a solution for emptying the cartridge by moving a first member of said cartridge relative to the second member of said cartridge. The movement of said members allows optimal control of the step of releasing the second fluid inside the container. Subject of the invention

[0034] [Fig. 9] represents the removal of the pipette from the “container-cap” assembly, and

[0035] [Fig. 10] illustrates a schematic view of the use of the pipette. Figure 1 shows a sectional view of a cartridge 1 adapted for the assembly according to the invention. The cartridge 1 is adapted to contain and store a second fluid 200 inside a chamber. As illustrated in the explanation below, for Figures 4 and 5, said cartridge is adapted to be introduced into the opening of a container, such as a bottle or flask.

[0036] By using the release mechanism of the cartridge 1, the user decides when to release the second fluid 200 from said cartridge 1 and introduces it inside the container in order to mix it with a first fluid already present within the container.

[0037] The cartridge 1 comprises a first member 10, in the form of a container provided with a substantially cylindrical side wall 11. The container 1 is provided with a lower wall 12 provided with a substantially cylindrical orifice 13. The orifice 13 is provided with a rim 14 directed, according to FIG. 1, downwards in order to optimize contact and sealing with a closure element forming part of a second member, described below. The side wall 11 is provided, on its upper side, with a rim 15 adapted to cooperate with the opening of a container (not visible in FIG. 1) such as a bottle. Said rim 15 makes it possible to prevent the cartridge 1 from penetrating too deeply into the opening of the container and from being fixed on the bottle or flask. In order to optimize the seal between the cartridge 1 and the opening of the container, said cartridge 1 is provided with a sealing element 16 having the shape of a ring, either overmolded or a seal. The sealing element 16 is made using a TPE or other similar material or a gasket.

[0038] Figure 1 shows that the cartridge 1 comprises a second member 20 essentially in the form of a piston. The second member 20 is provided with an upper wall 21 on which is fixed a closing element 22, essentially in the form of a tube. Said closing element 22 is adapted to cooperate with the orifice 13 located in the lower wall 12 of the first member 10, more particularly with the rim 14 linked to said orifice 13. The upper wall 21 of the second member 20 comprises, at its end, a rim 23 adapted to cooperate with the inner wall of the first member 10 in order to ensure optimal sealing and the maintenance of the second fluid 200 inside the cartridge 1.

[0039] Figure 1 shows the cartridge 1 in its first position, in which position the assembly composed of the first member 10 and the second member 20 defines a chamber for containing and storing the second fluid 200. In this first position, the rim 14 allows the orifice 13 to be closed with the closing element 22 which is part of the second member 20.

[0040] From the first position, as illustrated in Figure 1, the first member 10 and the second member 20 can be moved to a second position adapted to release the second fluid 200 contained inside the cartridge 1, as described above. As visible in Figure 1, the outer wall of the closure element 22 is provided with one or more grooves or notches 24. Said grooves or notches 24 have the objective of creating a passage between the outer wall of the closure element 22 and the interior of the orifice 13, more particularly the rim 14 linked to said orifice 13. By moving the first member 10 relative to the second member 20, said groove or notch 24 is positioned in such a way that a passage is created, from the interior of the chamber to contain the second fluid 200 towards the bottom of the cartridge 1.Under the pressure exerted on the upper wall 21 of the second member 20, the second fluid 200 can thus be released from inside the cartridge 1. As described below in more detail, the wall 21 forms a contact zone adapted to receive pressure, said pressure on said contact zone allowing the first member 10 and the second member 20 to move relative to each other.

[0041] Figure 1 also shows that before its use the cartridge 1 is provided with a cap 30. Said cap 30 closes the entire cartridge 1 at its upper end. According to one embodiment, the cap 30 can be fixed simultaneously on the upper end of the side wall 11 of the first member 10 and on the upper wall of the closure element 22 forming part of the second member 20. As described in more detail with reference to Figure 2, the cartridge 1 is, in its lower part, also provided with a cap 40 or a small plug (not shown in the figures) making it possible to close a filling orifice (not visible in Figure 1). The caps 30, 40 are fixed, for example on the cartridge 1 using heat sealing.

[0042] Figure 2 represents a perspective view of the cartridge 1 and its lower part directed upwards. Figure 2 shows that the lower wall 12 of the first member 10 is provided with an orifice 17 adapted to allow the filling of the cartridge 1 according to its first position. As soon as said cartridge 1 is filled using a second fluid 200, the orifice 17 is closed by means of the seal 40 or the small plug. As visible in Figure 2, the lower wall 12 of the first member 10 is provided with a raised edge 18 allowing said seal 40 to be fixed there. The orifice 17 is also provided with a raised edge 19 allowing optimal fixing of the seal 40 around said orifice 17 and optimal sealing of said orifice 17. In addition, Figure 2 illustrates in more detail the presence of the sealing element 16.

[0043] According to an alternative embodiment for the cartridge 1, the rim 14 (see in FIG. 1) may also be oriented towards the inside of the member 10 (upwards in FIG. 1) instead of being oriented towards the outside of said member 10 (downwards in FIG. 1).

[0044] This alternative embodiment is not shown in the figures. In the case where the rim 14 were oriented towards the inside of the member 10, the lower face of the cartridge 1 could be made in an essentially flat shape, because the closure element 22, according to this alternative embodiment, does not need to extend below the lower face 12 of said member 10. In this case, the seal intended to seal the lower face of the cartridge could be made in the form of a circular seal, the center of which would have a breakable zone, adapted for the passage of a dispensing member, such as a pipette, at the moment when said dispensing member is inserted into the cartridge.

[0045] Figure 3 shows a view illustrating the assembly of the cartridge 1. First, the first member 10 is seen. The second member 20, in the form of a piston, is inserted inside said first member 10. Then, the cap 30 is fixed on the upper parts of the first member 10 and the second member 20. Then, the filling can be carried out via the orifice 17, as shown in Figure 2, after which the lower wall of the first member 10 is closed using the cap 40 or the small plug.

[0046] Figure 4 shows the assembly of the cartridge 1 inside the opening of a container 50. Once the insertion of the cartridge 1 has been carried out, the sealing element 16 of said cartridge 1 is positioned on the upper end 51 of said container 50. The container 50 is then sealed, neither the first fluid present inside said container 50 (not shown in Figure 4) nor the second fluid 200 present inside the cartridge 1 can escape from the container 50. The first and second fluids cannot mix or be contaminated by any foreign substance. As illustrated in Figure 6, before positioning the cap on the container 50, the seal 30 is removed. After removal of said seal 30, the contents of the container 50 become accessible from the outside.According to the example illustrated in Figure 4, a cap 60 is positioned on the upper end of the container 50, said cap 60 being able to be fixed on said container 50 thanks to a thread 61 present inside the cap 60 and a thread 52 present on the external surface of the upper part of the container 50. As shown in Figure 4, the cap 60 forms an assembly with a pipette 70 comprising a rigid part inserted through the closure element 22 of the cartridge 1 towards the inside of the container 50, according to an alternative mode (not shown in the figures) the cap 60 can accommodate a standard pipette. Furthermore, the pipette 70 is provided with an element 72 made of flexible material which can be used to suck a determined quantity of fluid inside the rigid part 71 of said pipette 70.

[0047] Figure 4 shows the cartridge 1 in its first position in which the first member and the second member delimit a chamber intended to receive the second fluid 200. From this first position, said cartridge 1 can be moved into a second position, as can be seen in Figure 5, and is adapted to release said second fluid 200 towards the inside of the container 50. To do this, the cap 60 is provided with a pusher element 62 adapted to exert pressure on the upper wall 21 of the second member of the cartridge 1. The movement of the cap 60 downwards, as shown in Figure 4, can be achieved by means of the thread 52, 61 respectively outside the container 50 and inside said cap 60. By screwing the cap 60 downwards, the pusher element 62 exerts pressure on the upper wall 21 of the second member 20, thus moving said second member 20 relative to the first member 10.

[0048] Figure 5 shows the assembly composed of the container cartridge 50 and the cap 60 provided with the pipette 70, according to the second position of said cartridge 1. In Figure 5, it can be seen that the groove or notch 24, present on the outer surface of the closure element 22, creates a passage intended for the second fluid 200 when said closure element 22 is released from the cartridge 1 and penetrates inside the container 50. Figure 5 shows that the cap 60 has not yet reached a maximum lower position. If the cap 60 is continued to be screwed, it descends and the pusher element 62 exerts additional downward pressure on the upper wall 21 of the second member 20. By carrying out this manipulation, the interior of the chamber of the cartridge 1 is emptied to the maximum and the second fluid 200 is released and penetrates inside the container 50.

[0049] Figure 5 shows that the exterior of the closure element 22 is composed of a first part 221 which is in contact with the rim 14 located on the lower wall 12 of the first member 10, according to the first position of the cartridge 1, as shown in Figure 4. The closure element 22 is composed of a second part 222 where the groove or notch 24 is located. The closure element 22 also has a third part 223 adapted to come into contact with the rim 14 located on the lower wall 12 of the first member, as soon as the cap is completely turned downwards and when the movement of the first member 10 and the second member is completed. This means that when the movement of the members relative to each other is achieved, the closing and sealing of the chamber of the cartridge 1, defined by said two members, is again optimal.

[0050] It should be noted that the chamber of the cartridge 1, defined by the members 10, 20 comprises, according to the first position of said cartridge 1 shown in FIG. 4, a first fluid and a gas. A determined quantity of gas is necessary to allow the compression of said gas and the movement of the members 10, 20 relative to each other. The presence of said gas also makes it possible, as soon as the cartridge 1 is in its second position adapted to release the second fluid 200, to exert a certain pressure inside the chamber defined by all the members 10, 20. In other words, the second position of the cartridge 1 allows the expulsion of the second fluid 200 from said cartridge 1 at a certain speed.

[0051] The technical effect of this expulsion under pressure is reflected in the fact that, in the case where the container is made of a material such as glass, for example, the user can easily observe the release of the second fluid 200 from the cartridge 1 towards the interior of the container 50. This release can give the effect of a turbulent jet of the second fluid 200 towards the fluid already present inside the container 50. The effect of the turbulent jet is further reinforced as soon as the second fluid 200 which penetrates inside the cartridge 1 is of a different color from the fluid already present inside the container 50.

[0052] When the cap 60 is completely screwed onto the container 50, the pipette 70 can be used to suck a certain quantity of mixed fluid, composed of the first fluid and the second fluid, out of the container 50. If the pipette is fixed inside the cap 60, the assembly composed of the cap 60 and the pipette 70 is removed to detach said pipette 70 from the container 50. According to the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5, the pipette 70 is positioned inside the cap 60 in a removable manner. This means that as soon as the cap 60 is completely fixed on the container 50, the pipette 70 can be detached from said cap 60 in order to suck a determined quantity of fluid out of said container 50. The different stages of the use of the assembly according to the invention are represented with reference to FIGS. 6 to 10 detailed below.

[0053] Figure 6 represents an embodiment according to the invention. In a package, the user first finds a container 50 filled with a first fluid (not visible in Figure 6) whose opening is closed by a cartridge 1 according to the invention. The cartridge 1 is closed using a seal 30, which seal ensures optimal storage and transport. The user uses a cap 60, the interior of which is provided with an integrated pipette 70. When using the assembly composed of the container 50 and the cartridge 1, the user removes the seal 30. This action releases the cartridge 1 and allows the introduction of the pipette 70 inside said cartridge 1. The step of fixing the cap 60 on the container 50 is illustrated in FIG. 7. The rigid part of the pipette 70 is introduced inside the closing element 22 (not visible in FIG. 7) of the cartridge 1.The assembly formed by the cap 60 and the pipette 70 is advanced to the thread 61 inside the cap 60 (not visible in Figure 7) and thus hooks onto the thread 52 outside the upper part of the container 50. By screwing the cap 60 onto the container 50, the pipette comes into contact with the fluid inside the container 50 and the second liquid present inside the cartridge 1 is released inside said container 50, as described with reference to Figures 4 and 5. The user continues to screw the cap 60 until he hears a clipping sound such as a "click". This attachment is illustrated in Figure 8. The assembly composed of the exterior of the upper part of the container 50 and the interior of the cap 60 forms a clipping ring which delimits the end of the screwing of said cap 60 onto said container 50 and prevents easy removal of the cap 60 from the container 50.When the cap 60 is attached to the container 50, according to the example illustrated in FIGS. 6 to 10, the pipette 70 can be removed from the container 50 and cap 60 assembly in order to release a determined quantity of fluid mixture. This step is schematically illustrated in FIG. 9. Before removing the pipette 70 from the assembly composed of the container 50 and the cap 60, the user exerts a certain pressure with his fingers on the flexible part of the pipette 70, thus sucking a desired quantity of fluid inside the rigid part of the pipette 70. When the pipette is completely removed from the container 50 and cap 60 assembly, the user can exert a new pressure on the flexible part of the pipette 70 to release a quantity of product and apply it, for example, to his hand. This step is schematically illustrated in FIG. 10.
