Description

Data processing method and data processing device

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a data processing method and a data processing device, and more particularly, to a data processing method and a data processing device that generate metadata associated with content played on a content playback device and provide the metadata to a user device.

[0002] For example, technologies are being developed and applied to provide information related to content being played on content playback devices such as set-top boxes, digital TVs, and personal computers through user devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.

[0003] For example, Korean Patent Registration No. 10-1716617 (Prior Document 1) discloses a technology that utilizes augmented reality to provide a viewer (user) of home shopping content with various information related to the home shopping content through a user device when the home shopping content is being played on a content playback device. That is, an augmented reality server provides augmented reality content related to the home shopping content, and an augmented reality application running on a user device receives augmented reality content from the augmented reality server based on a screen of the home shopping content captured through the user device.

[0004] However, in order to apply the technology disclosed in Korean Patent No. 10-1716617, augmented reality content related to home shopping content must be produced separately, and thus, there is a disadvantage in that the time and cost required to provide various information related to home shopping content increase.

[0005] Additionally, from the user's perspective, there is a disadvantage in that in order to receive various information related to home shopping content, complex tasks such as running an augmented reality application and then taking a picture of the home shopping content screen must be performed.

[0006] Accordingly, the need for technology that can easily provide various information related to content being played on a content playback device through a user device is increasing.

In addition, the data processing device (100) may be connected to a content transmission device (400) and an operation information designation device (600) via a communication network.

[0034] A content playback device (200) is a device that receives and signals-processes content from a content transmission device (400) using at least one of a broadcasting network and a communication network and provides the content so that it can be displayed. The content playback device (200) includes, for example, devices such as a digital television, a personal computer, and a set-top box. That is, the content playback device (200) may include not only a digital television or a set-top box that receives and signals-processes content provided in a broadcast format and provides it, but also a computing device that can execute an application that can receive and signals-process content through a communication network and provide it. The content playback device (200) may include, for example, devices such as a CTV (Connected TV) and an ATV (Addressable TV).

[0035] The user device (300) is a portable computing device. The user device (300) includes devices such as a smartphone and a tablet computer, for example.

[0036] A content transmission device (400) is a device configured to transmit content to a content playback device (200) using a broadcasting or communication network. The content transmission device (400) may be implemented using, for example, a plurality of devices.

[0037] A content providing device (500) is a device that provides content to a content transmission device (400).

[0038] The motion information designation device (600) is a device that sets the motion information described below. At least a portion of the motion information set by the motion information designation device (600) may be transmitted to the content reproduction device (200) via the content provision device (500) and the content transmission device (400), or via the content transmission device (400). The motion information may also be transmitted to the data processing device (100).

[0039] The data processing device (100), content transmission device (400), content provision device (500), and operation information designation device (600) may be operated by the same entity, but may also be operated by different entities.

[0040] For example, in the case of digital cable broadcasting or OTT service, the content transmission device (400) may be operated by an SO (System Operator) and the content provision device (500) may be operated by a PP (Program Provider), and the operation information designation device (600) may be operated by the SO, the PP, or another third party. The PP is also referred to as a CP (Content Provider).

[0041] The content playback device (200), the user device (300), and the content transmission device (400) are configured to perform processing associated with the data processing method according to the first embodiment of the technology described herein.

[0042] For example, the content playback device (200) can transmit the first metadata described below to the data processing device (100), and is also configured to transmit an approval response to the data processing device (100).

[0043] For example, the user device (300) is configured to perform an action in response to the action information described below and to transmit execution information indicating the result of the action to the data processing device (100).

[0044] For example, the content transmission device (400) is configured to transmit at least the identification information of the motion information to the content playback device (200) together with the first content data described below.

[0045] Referring to FIG. 1 below, a data processing method according to a first embodiment of the technology described herein will be described in more detail.

[0046] Referring to FIG. 1, first, a data processing device (100), more specifically, an operation processing unit (130), receives, from a content reproduction device (200), first metadata specified in advance for first content data that the content reproduction device (200) processes and reproduces (step S110).

[0047] The first content data may refer to, for example, advertisement content data. Alternatively, the first content data may refer to, for example, a portion of the content. For example, if the content is 40 minutes long, data corresponding to a portion of that content may be referred to as the first content data.

[0048] Preferably, the first metadata is transmitted by the content playback device (200) to the data processing device (100) when playback of the first content data begins, and the operation processing unit (130) receives the first metadata.

[0049] The first metadata includes at least identification information of the operation information described below.

[0050] The identification information of the motion information is unique information designated for the motion information. For example, the identification information of the motion information is information designated by the motion information designation device (600) described above.

[0051] FIG. 4 is a drawing exemplarily showing first metadata in a data processing method according to a first embodiment of the technology described herein.

[0052] In Fig. 4, solid lines indicate information that must be included (i.e., identification information of motion information in the example of Fig. 4), and dotted lines indicate information that may be additionally included.

[0053] Referring to FIG. 4, the first metadata includes at least identification information of the motion information. In addition, the first metadata may further include at least one of identification information of the first content data, identification information of the content playback device (200), identification information of the entity transmitting the first content data to the content playback device (200), identification information of the entity providing the first content data, identification information of the entity specifying the motion information, motion information, and information on the validity period of the motion information.

[0054] The identification information of the first content data is unique information specified for the first content data.

[0055] The identification information of the content playback device (200) is unique information designated for the content playback device (200), and may be, for example, network information (e.g., IP address) or device identification information of the content playback device (200).

[0056] The identification information of the entity transmitting the first content data to the content playback device (200) may be, for example, identification information (e.g., broadcasting station identification information) of the entity operating the aforementioned content transmission device (400).

[0057] The identification information of the entity providing the first content data may be, for example, identification information (e.g., channel identification information) of the entity operating the aforementioned content providing device (500).

[0058] The identification information of the subject that has specified the motion information may be, for example, the identification information of the subject that has specified the motion information using the motion information designation device (600) described above (for example, if the first content data is an advertisement content and the advertiser has specified the motion information, the advertiser).

[0059] The validity period information of the motion information indicates the period during which the aforementioned motion information is valid, and may be set in response to the first content data, or may be set to, for example, 30 minutes or 1 day. The various pieces of information described above may be used as reference information, for example, when the user device (300) generates the execution information described below. In addition, the various pieces of information described above may be used as reference information, for example, when the data processing device (100) transmits the execution information described below to any one of the content transmission device (400), the content provision device (500), and the motion information designation device (600).

[0060] The motion information will be described later.

[0061] The content transmission device (400) may transmit only the identification information of the aforementioned operation information together with the first content data to the content playback device (200). Alternatively, the content transmission device (400) may transmit at least one of the identification information of the first content data, the identification information of the content playback device (200), the identification information of the entity transmitting the first content data to the content playback device (200), the identification information of the entity providing the first content data, the identification information of the entity specifying the operation information, the operation information, and the validity period information of the operation information to the content playback device (200).

[0062] When reproducing the first content data, the content reproduction device (200) may transmit only the identification information of the operation information as the first metadata to the data processing device (100), and may also transmit first metadata including at least one of the various pieces of information described above to the data processing device (100). The content reproduction device (200) may also directly acquire at least some of the various pieces of information described above to generate the first metadata. For example, the content reproduction device (200) may directly acquire information such as the identification information of the first content data, the identification information of the content reproduction device (200), the identification information of the entity transmitting the first content data to the content reproduction device (200), and the identification information of the entity providing the first content data to generate the first metadata.

[0063] Referring to FIG. 1, next, the operation processing unit (130) checks whether the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group (step S130).

[0064] FIG. 5 is a diagram exemplarily illustrating a step of determining whether a content playback device (200) and a user device (300) are included in the same network group in a data processing method according to a first embodiment of the technology described herein.

[0065] Referring to FIG. 5, step S130 includes step S131.

[0066] The operation processing unit (130) determines whether the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group based on the network information of the content playback device (200) and the network information of the user device (300) (step S131).

[0067] The network information of the content playback device (200) may be obtained, for example, through the aforementioned step S110. Alternatively, the network information of the content playback device (200) may be received and stored in advance from the content playback device (200). The network information of the content playback device (200) may also be stored, for example, in the memory (150).

[0068] For example, network information of the user device (300) may be transmitted from the user device (300) at regular intervals (e.g., daily). In that case, the data processing device (100) may store the network information of the user device (300) transmitted at regular intervals, for example, in the memory (150).

[0069] Or, for example, when the user device (300) is connected to a mobile communication network such as 5G and a wireless communication network such as Wi-Fi, the network information of the user device (300) is changed for each. In that case, the user device (300) transmits the network information of the user device (300) to the data processing device (100), and the data processing device (100) may store the network information of the user device (300) in, for example, the memory (150).

[0070] Or, for example, the data processing device (100) transmits a network information request to the user device (300), and the user device (300) transmits network information of the user device (300) to the data processing device (100) in response to the network information request, and the data processing device (100) may store the network information of the user device (300) in, for example, the memory (150).

[0071] The network information of the content playback device (200) and the network information of the user device (300) may refer to, for example, an IP address.

[0072] For example, the network information of the content playback device (200) includes identification information of a first network device connected to the content playback device (200), and the network information of the user device (300) includes identification information of a second network device connected to the user device (300). If the identification information of the first network device and the identification information of the second network device are the same, it can be determined that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group, and if they are not the same, it can be determined that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are not included in the same network group. That is, if the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are connected to the same network connection device, it can be determined that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group.

[0073] More specifically, when the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are connected to the same AP (access point), the IP address of the content playback device (200) and the IP address of the user device (300) are both the same value as the IP address of the AP when viewed from the outside. Therefore, when the IP address of the content playback device (200) and the IP address of the user device (300) are the same, it can be determined that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group, i.e., connected to the same AP.

[0074] Meanwhile, although this embodiment is described based on an example in which step S130 is performed after step S110, step S130 may also be performed before step S110.

[0075] Referring to FIG. 1, next, if the operation processing unit (130) determines that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group in step S130, the operation processing unit (130) generates second metadata including at least operation information to be performed by the user device (300) in association with the first content data based on the first metadata (step S150).

[0076] Meanwhile, if the operation processing unit (130) determines in step S130 that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are not included in the same network group, it terminates the execution of the data processing method according to the present embodiment.

[0077] FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating second metadata as an example in a data processing method according to a first embodiment of the technology described herein.

[0078] In Fig. 6, solid lines indicate information that must be included (i.e., motion information in the example of Fig. 6), and dotted lines indicate information that may be additionally included.

[0079] Referring to FIG. 6, the second metadata includes at least operation information. In addition, the second metadata may further include at least one of identification information of the second metadata, identification information of the first content data, identification information of the content playback device (200), identification information of the entity transmitting the first content data to the content playback device (200), identification information of the entity providing the first content data, identification information of the entity specifying the operation information, identification information of the operation information, identification information of the user device (300), and information on the validity period of the operation information.

[0080] The identification information of the second metadata is unique information designated for the second metadata. The identification information of the second metadata may be generated, for example, by the operation processing unit (130) and designated for the second metadata. The identification information of the second metadata may be used as reference information in connection with the enforcement information described below.

[0081] The identification information of the user device (300) is unique information designated for the user device (300), and may be, for example, network information (e.g., IP address) or device identification information of the user device (300).

[0082] Other information can be referenced from the first metadata described above, so a detailed description is omitted.

[0083] The various pieces of information described above can be used as reference information, for example, when the user device (300) generates the execution information described below. In addition, the various pieces of information described above can be used as reference information, for example, when the data processing device (100) transmits the execution information described below to any one of the content transmission device (400), the content provision device (500), and the operation information designation device (600). That is, the various pieces of information described above can be included in the execution information as reference information that more specifically indicates the situation in which the operation information was executed, and thus can be used when generating additional information based on the execution information. For example, they can be used when generating statistical information, such as execution information, for operation information transmitted through a specific SO or PP.

[0084] FIG. 7 is a drawing exemplarily showing operation information in a data processing method according to a first embodiment of the technology described herein.

[0085] Referring to FIG. 7, the operation information may include identification information of a first application designated to be executed by the user device (300) in association with the first content data and execution parameter information of the first application.

[0086] The first application may be, for example, an e-commerce application or a video serving application.

[0087] For example, if the first application is an e-commerce application, the execution parameter information of the first application may include at least one of identification information for a product to be provided using the first application and discount sale information associated with the product.

[0088] For example, if the first application is a video providing application, the execution parameter information of the first application may include, for example, identification information of second content data to be provided using the first application.

[0089] Referring to FIG. 7, the operation information may include identification information of a first application designated to be executed by the user device (300) in association with the first content data, execution parameter information of the first application, identification information of a second application designated to be executed instead of the first application when the first application cannot be executed on the user device (300), and execution parameter information of the second application.

[0090] The execution parameter information of the second application is similar to the execution parameter information of the first application, so a detailed description is omitted.

[0091] The motion information may include identification information of a third application to be installed on the user device (300) in association with the first content data. If a new third application is being developed and promoted, the motion information may indicate that the third application should be installed on the user device (300). In this case, the motion information may include identification information of the third application to be installed on the user device (300) in association with the first content data. If the third application is already installed on the user device (300), the user device (300) may ignore the motion information.

[0092] Referring to FIG. 1, next, the operation processing unit (130) transmits the second metadata generated in step S150 to the user device (300) (step S170).

[0093] The user device (300) may operate based on the second metadata. That is, the user device (300) may execute the first application and provide product information using the execution parameter information of the first application, such as identification information for products to be provided using the first application and discount sales information associated with the products, or may provide second content data using, for example, identification information of the second content data. In addition, if the first application is not executable, for example, if the first application is not installed on the user device (300), the second application may be executed and provide product information or second content data similarly to the above-described method. The user device (300) may also install a third application.

[0094] It is preferable that the operation of the user device (300) be performed after outputting an approval message, such as “Would you like to provide product information?” to the user device (300) and receiving a user approval response thereto.

[0095] Meanwhile, as illustrated in FIG. 1, if the operation processing unit (130) determines that the content playback device (200) and the user device (300) are included in the same network group in step S130, it can transmit identification information of the user device (300) to the content playback device (200) (step S190).

[0096] For example, the content playback device (200) may request approval for providing second metadata to the user device (300) based on the identification information of the user device (300). More specifically, the content playback device (200) may display an approval guidance message in addition to the first content being displayed, and receive an approval response to the approval guidance message. When the identification information of the user device (300) is, for example, “AA,” the approval guidance message may be in the form of, for example, “Would you like to check the product for the content you are currently watching using the AA smartphone? Press the yellow button to approve, and press the red button to reject.”

[0097] When the content playback device (200) receives an approval response, for example, when it receives a signal for pressing the yellow button in the example described above, it transmits the approval response to the data processing device (100), and the operation processing unit (130) can receive an approval response for providing second metadata to the user device (300) from the content playback device (200) (step S210).

[0098] At least one of steps S150 and S170 may be performed after step S210. That is, at least one of steps S150 and S170 may be performed only when an approval response is received.
