[0037] For simplicity and ease of explanation, throughout thi s description, and unless the context indicates otherwise , like parts or elements are indicated in the various figures with like reference signs , and a corresponding description will not be repeated for each and every figure .

[0038] The solution here described is adapting the information to be conveyed to the vehicle user to the context of the user in order to allow an easy and comprehensive experience .

[0039] As in rally driving situation a real human copilot is anticipating the situation that the driver will face , providing him the best advice according to the context , us ing voice and, i f needed, gestures which are easily understandable in a way similar as to the information coming from a human and not a machine .

[0040] The solution here described used arti ficial intelligence module to analyze the context and provide a fast feedback to the user . Those answer i f provided only by voice machine could distract the driver .

[0041] The solution here described provides for generating a speaking avatar, i . e . , a computer representation of a subj ect in a computer-generated three dimensional environment . The subj ect represented by the avatar may be any, e . g . the copilot mentioned above or another character . The information supplied by speaking by the avatar is are synchroni zed with avatar shape keys in 3D, in order to humani ze the interaction and give confidence to the user .

[0042] Shape keys , or also morph target animation, per-vertex animation, shape interpolation, or blend shapes is a method of 3D computer animation used together with techniques such as skeletal animation, in particular for facial animation . In a morph target animation, a "deformed" version of a mesh is stored as a series of vertex positions . In each key frame of an animation, the vertices are then interpolated between these stored positions . By way of example an implementation of such animation can be performed by the open source 3D creation suite Blender, and the corresponding Blender shape keys .

[0043] The solution described provides for locali zing the voice at the position of the avatar within the cabin when speaking .

[0044] The solution described allows to replace the 3D image of the avatar by a 3D image of a scene or an obj ect of interest and to move the voice origin on the side of the user, at a virtual copilot position, then the Avatar is no more visible but still audible as voice over and can comment the obj ect or the obj ect 3D is illustrating the message given by the avatar voice .

[0045] Thus the solution allows to be able to have a perception of an avatar inside the car and not remote .

[0046] With reference to figure 1 , there it is shown a block schematics representing a signaling apparatus 10 , which i s positioned in a vehicle , not shown in figure 1 . The signaling apparatus 10 comprises a three-dimensional display 11 , able to generate three-dimensional images . I is here speci fied that three-dimensional images here is intended as to include three-dimensional images such as those generate by a hologram laser display or by a or by a reflective 3D lenticular lens display, but also can refer to images perceived as three dimensional by the user, e . g . generated by an apparatus with the Pepper' s ghost technique images .

[0047] The apparatus 10 then comprises an ECU 12 configured to perform one or more of the following operations : elaborate user information UI , comprising messages and other information to be provided to the user,

[0048] - create an animation of a three-dimensional image of a digital avatar, creating both a three-dimensional model of the avatar and the position and animation of its shape keys ,

[0049] - create or load three-dimensional ob j ects / scenes which are in correlation with a category of the messages and information UI to be provided,

[0050] - generate an audio signal configured to be perceived as coming from the three-dimensional avatar / ob j ect region by the user, such audio signal being synchroni zed with the images or the shape keys .

[0051] The display 11 under the control of the ECU 12 generates a first 3D image , i . e . , perceived as three dimensional by the user, of a subj ect , speci fically an avatar 13 . The ECU 12 is configured to create an animation of a 3D image of the digital avatar 13 , creating both a three-dimensional model of the avatar 13 and the position and animation of its shape keys . The first 3D image is created in a field of view compatible with the user eyebox, for instance the eyebox of the driver .

[0052] Also the ECU 12 is configured to generate a second 3D image 14 , which may correspond to an obj ect , or obj ects , or a 3D scene . Such second 3D image may be an image which also illustrates the user information UI being supplied to the user, e . g . depends from the context of the user information UI . Thus the ECU 12 generates or load three-dimensional obj ects / scenes which are in correlation with a category of the messages and information UI to be provided, driving the display to drive them .

[0053] Then, the apparatus 10 comprises a spatial audio system 15 driven by the ECU 12 and connected through audio ampli fier to speakers 18 in the cabin of the vehicle . The spatial audio system 15 is configured to process the sound produced by the speakers , which may comprise stereo speakers , surround-sound speakers , speaker-arrays , or also headphones . The system 15 preferably is configured to perform 3-D audio by operating a spatial domain convolution of sound waves using Head- related trans fer functions (HRTF) , trans forming sound waves (using head-related trans fer function or HRTF filters and cross talk cancellation techniques ) to mimic natural sounds waves , which emanate from a speci fic point in a 3-D space . Therefore , the ECU 12 is configured also to generate an audio signal 3A configured to be perceived as coming from the three-dimensional first 3D image 13 or 3D second image 14 by the user, such audio signal 3A being synchroni zed with the images or the shape keys applied to the three-dimensional first 3D image 13 or 3D second image 14 for animation . The 3D second image 14 may be of the type defined as Obj ect and Scenes in the Blender software , e . g . , scenes , in particular with obj ects . Each blend- file can contain multiple scenes , which share other data such as obj ects and materials .

[0054] By way of example a spatial audio system like Dolby Atmos may be used .

[0055] As shown in figure 1 the ECU 12 includes a hardware module 121 and a software module 122 , which in its turn comprised a rendering software 1221 , which generates the first image 13 or avatar from an Avatar skin 1221c and shape keys 1221a, and also a rendering software 1221b of the second 3D image 14 , which, as mentioned further illustrates the context of the user information UI . The ECU 12 also comprises in said software module 122 a controller module 1222 configured to control the usage of the first image 13 or second image 14 and issue said user information UI . The apparatus 10 comprises also a Generative Al module 16 configured to generate answers to user queries, e.g. inputted by a microphone 18, in particular associated to a speech recognition module. The ECU 12 also comprises in said software module 122 thus a voice module 1223, which captures the voice of the user e.g. by speech recognition, and an audio module 1224 to perform the audio signal functions above, i.e. generating the audio signal 3A carrying the user information UI, said software module 122 being the then configured to operate with the spatial audio module 15 to issue said an audio signal 3A configured to be perceived as coming from the three-dimensional first image 13 or second image 14, i.e., avatar / obj ect , region by the user.

[0056] The controller module 122 is configured to decide priorities and conditions of usage of the signaling using the first image 13, for instance in order to not disturb the user during difficult maneuvers. The user information UI which is signaled by the avatar, i.e. image 13, is supplied by the controller module 122, which is also checking that the duration of the piece of user information UI or answer by the Al 16 is compatible with the current user activities / capabilities . The Al 16 may generate answers to user queries with a text output, possibly converted in speech for the audio system 15 to play, but such answers can also take the form of further 3D images, in particular animated generated for instance by the by the controller module 122 upon receiving the corresponding information by the Al 16. In case of simple text answer the Avatar, i.e. image 13, appears visualized by the 3D display 11 and speaks the answer, animation of the face performing motions synchronized with the speech, such as lips movement, eyes movement, facial expression changes. In case of text answers combined with other images data (3D object 14, fixed images, which can be on the 3D display 11) , the avatar 13 may disappear and will be replace by the image data, then the avatar voice message is be generated spatially next to the user side by the audio system 15) . In the case the controller module 122 withing its function of deciding priorities and conditions of usage, commands an action is taken, such as placing a call or activating a car function like mute radio, switch on ceiling light, increase temperature up to a given value, this may be signaled by the first image 13, i.e. the avatar, which announces speaking the function activated.

[0057] In figure 2 it is shown partially a vehicle 50, in particular a car, which comprises a vehicle cabin 51, both shown partially in their frontal portion, the frontal portion of cabin 51 showing two seats in which two users, a driver 20 and a passenger 21 are seated. A plurality of speaker 18, located in different positions in the cabin 51, in particular under the seats and the sides of the cabin 51 near the doors, is shown, to which the spatial audio signal 3A are sent by the spatial audio system 15, not show, under the control of the ECU 12.

[0058] Microphones 17 are placed in front of the users 20, 21 to receive the queries Q.

[0059] The first image 13, an avatar, is shown a visualized by a display 11, not shown, in front of the driver 21 above the steering wheel.

[0060] With Pl and P2 are indicated audio zones, corresponding to the front of the user 21 or 22, to which the spatial spatial audio system 15 may confine the emission of audio signal 3A.

[0061] For instance the signaling apparatus 10 may be activated with reproduction of information content UI by the avatar 13 may be started through a wake-up-word received by the microphones 17 , or through buttons or other inputs . Also the signaling apparatus 10 may be activated automatically based on car events / contexts ( e . g . "welcome on board" .

[0062] When the signaling apparatus 10 is activated :

[0063] • related audio prompts maybe played on headrest loudspeakers of both the zones Pl and P2 ;

[0064] • voice is captured be only from the microphones 17 of the zone Pl or P2 where the signaling apparatus is activated, e . g . by using the respective microphone 17 , staying with this microphone allocation for the complete sess ion of signaling of information content UI , until it ends . For instance o In case of activation through wake- up-word the microphones 17 related to the zone where the wake-up-word has been detected are considered o activation through push button or other manual input or : the microphones related to the left / driver zone Pl are considered o session automatically started based on car events / contexts : the microphones related to the left zone Pl or right zone P2 are considered, based on the speci fic information content UI .

[0065] When the session of the signaling apparatus is terminated, i . e . the information content UI associated has been outputted to the user 20 or 21, the normal media playback is restored on both Zone Pl and Zone P2.

[0066] It is underlined that for instances the Zones Pl and P2 may correspond thus to the positions or include the which may be selected by the electronic control unit 12 among a plurality of positions, e.g. the set of positions Pl, P2, but also a different set of positions, in the vehicle. Such set of positions may comprise for instance the positions Pl, P2 and a third more restricted area, which is also indicated in figure 2 with P3, around the position of the three- dimensional image, i.e. the avatar 13 and / or the object or scenes 14. Also other sets with other positions may be possible, e.g. a position specifically at the right and / or left of the driver. In general the set of position may include any position as source of the spatial audio signal Al as reproduced by the speakers 18, which may be useful in connection with the content UI in the spatial audio signal to enhance its meaning or the perception of the meaning (e.g. the visualization of an arrow to turn left may be coming from the left, to turn right from the right) . Also, the avatar image 13 may be turned off on the display 11, however the avatar voice in the audio signal 3A may be moved, e.g. from zone P3, by the spatial system 15 to the right of the driver 20, so to have the attention of hearing of the driver

[0067] 20 in that direction. It is clear that many different perception combination, i.e. of 3D audio and 3D images, are possible with the apparatus 10 here described.

[0068] In any case, the selected position from which the system 15 makes the audio signal 3A perceived by the user, e.g. 20,

[0069] 21 as coming from, can be any among a plurality of positions in a three dimensional volume, in particular corresponding to the inside or cabin of the vehicle. The apparatus 10 here described, by the 3D display 11 and audio spatial system 15 is configured to select, in particular vary, both the 3D images, e.g. 13, 14, and the 3D audio signal 3A content and position differently depending on the information content UI .

[0070] Therefore, summarizing the solution here described refers to a signaling apparatus, e.g., 10 for signaling information content, e.g. message, in particular from queries Q, or other information, UI, to a user, driver 20 or passenger 21 for instance, in a vehicle, e.g., 50, said signaling apparatus, e.g., 10 comprising a display, e.g. 11, such as a holographic display, generating three-dimensional images, e.g. 13 or 14, in a given view field, which is observable by a user, e.g., 20, 21 of the vehicle, an electronic control unit, e.g. 12, in particular an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) , which is configured to generate at least a three-dimensional image, such as 13, 14 for the display, e.g. 11, to visualize in said view field, a spatial audio module, e.g., 15, coupled to a plurality of speakers, such as speakers 18 in figure 2, arranged in the vehicle, which is configured to generate audio signals, i.e. 3D audio signals 3A, perceived by the user (20, 21) as coming from selected positions in a three-dimensional volume in said vehicle 50, said electronic control unit 12 being configured to elaborate, in particular locally or through cloud access, an information content UI to be provided to said user, and to generate said three-dimensional image 13, 14, and said spatial audio module, e.g., 15, under the control of said electronic control unit 12, being configured to generate an audio signal, e.g., 3A, configured to be perceived by the user, for instance driver of passenger 20, 21, as coming from a position selected by the electronic control unit 12 among a plurality of positions, e.g., positions inside different audio zones Pl, P2 or Pl, P2, P3, in the vehicle, in particular such plurality of positions comprising a position, e.g. P3, of said three-dimensional image, e.g. 13, 14, in the vehicle 50.

[0071] Thus, on the basis of the description above, the advantages of the solution described are clear.

[0072] The solution described allows to create a speaking assistant, in particular avatar, where the answers are synchronized with avatar shape keys in 3D in order to humanize the interaction and give confidence to the user.

[0073] The solution described allows to localize the voice at the position of the avatar when speaking.

[0074] The solution described allows to replace the 3D image of the avatar by a 3D image of a scene or an object of interest and to move the voice origin on the side of the user, at a virtual copilot position, then the Avatar is no more visible but still audible as voice over and can comment the object or the object 3D is illustrating the message given by the avatar voice

[0075] The solution described allows to be able to have a perception of an avatar inside the vehicle and not remote Without prejudice to the underlying principles, the details and the embodiments may vary, even significantly, with respect to what has been described by way of example only without departing from the scope of the embodiments.
