Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] Mattress topper bag

[0003] TECHNICAL SECTOR

[0004] The present invention relates to a bag for a mattress topper or similar element, formed by two bodies and which allows its size to be reduced to facilitate transport and storage.

[0005] STATE OF THE ART

[0006] It's well known in the art that when you sleep in a new bed, you don't sleep as well the first night as the others. This phenomenon is known as the first night effect (FNE). Research has shown that in an unfamiliar environment, such as that caused by sleeping on a mattress that's not your usual one, the left side of the brain doesn't sleep as deeply as the right, which leads to more awakenings and greater sensitivity to external stimuli. This loss of sleep quality leads to poor performance once awake and is a problem for people who are constantly on the move, such as elite athletes or businesspeople.

[0007] One solution to avoid these inconveniences is to carry a mattress topper or your own mattress, thick enough for your brain to identify the environment as familiar at all times, regardless of where you are. Mattress toppers are well-known, but those thick enough to be rolled up generally don't alter the surface they're placed on, and those with a suitable thickness (at least 7 cm) aren't easily rolled up or portable. Inflatable mattress toppers are also known, which greatly reduce the mattress's volume but don't provide the desired sleep quality.

[0008] As mentioned, the state of the art includes rollable mattresses and toppers. These have a relatively small thickness and are flexible enough to be rolled up. Once rolled up, the user can place them in a bag for transport or storage. However, having to first roll the mattress and then place it in the bag requires the user to make great efforts and perform awkward operations, unless assisted by another user. Furthermore, as already mentioned, a small thickness is detrimental to the topper's ability to accommodate the sleeper's posture, making it necessary to have a thicker topper and use a compression method that can easily compress thick toppers in a home setting.

[0009] The applicant is not aware of any solution as effective as the one claimed.

[0010] BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION

[0011] The invention consists of a mattress or mattress topper bag according to the claims.

[0012] The bag is made up of:

[0013] - An outer shell, shaped like a quadrilateral, with a first side opposite and parallel to a third side, which can be joined together to form a tube. It also has a second and fourth side, opposite and parallel. The outer shell has handles on one side.

[0014] - A prismatic bag with a rectangular or square base, with volume-reducing means.

[0015] The base of the bag has a first dimension approximately equal to the distance between the second and fourth sides, and a second dimension less than the distance between the first and third sides. This facilitates the formation of the tube, as parts of the outer layer protrude from the bag.

[0016] This allows the bag to perform its primary function, reducing volume, while the outer layer provides protection and ensures portability. The outer layer helps the bag keep the mattress or mattress topper's volume down. On the other hand, the volume reduction occurs once the mattress or mattress topper is already inside the bag, so handling it is not a problem.

[0017] In a first embodiment, the volume-reducing means are extensions around the perimeter of the bag formed by pleats whose edges have a zipper or adhesive fabric (also known as "hook and loop"). In a second embodiment, the volume-reducing means are a bag vacuum system. The bag vacuum systems ensure its hermetic closure and comprise one or more non-return valves on a base, for connection to a vacuum pump.

[0018] The outer layer may have lids, one of the lids being attached to the second side and another of the lids being attached to the fourth side with means for attaching to the second side and the fourth side respectively.

[0019] Other particular solutions are included in the dependent claims and are described in detail below.

[0020] DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0021] To complement the description being made and in order to help better understand the characteristics of the invention, a set of drawings is attached in which, for illustrative and non-limiting purposes, the following has been represented.

[0022] Figure 1: Schematic perspective view of an embodiment.

[0023] Figure 2: Schematic section of an extension.

[0024] MODES OF EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

[0025] An embodiment of the invention is described below as an illustrative and non-limiting example.

[0026] The mattress topper bag shown in Figure 1 is made from an outer layer (1) made of a flexible and resistant material, for example canvas, and is quadrilateral in shape. Two pairs of opposite sides are defined, a first side (11), a second side (12), a third side (13) and a fourth side (14). The first side (11) is opposite and parallel to the third side (13). The fourth side (14) is parallel and opposite to the second side (12).

[0027] The first side (11) has connecting means with the third side (13), to form a tube with the outer layer (1). The connecting means are preferably a zipper, since it has to withstand a relatively high tension, although it can be adhesive textile (such as the one known by the Velero brand) or other connecting means. The figure shows how the outer layer (1) has two covers (2), generally circular, on the second side (12) and on the fourth side (14) that allow the tube to be closed. The perimeter of the covers (2) is similar to the length of the second side (12) and the fourth side (14), and has a connecting means so that each cover (2) can act as a closure for its corresponding side. The connecting means is preferably a zipper, or two depending on the point where the cover (2) is joined to the corresponding side. For example, if the cover (2) is joined to the second side (12) at one end of the latter, one zipper is sufficient. If joining in the center or another point, it may be preferable to use two zippers, one on each side of the lid contour (2). Other joining methods may include adhesive fabric, straps, or snaps.

[0028] In the outer layer (1) there is a prismatic bag (3), also with a rectangular or square base. The bag (3) reaches from the second side (12) to the fourth side (14), but is shorter than the distance from the first side (11) to the third side (13). In Figure 1 it is placed centered between the first side (11) and the third side (13), but it can be closer to one than to the other.

[0029] One of the bases of the prismatic bag (3) may be joined to the outer layer (1) or even be the outer layer (1) itself. An inner base (31) is surrounded by a zipper or closure (32) that runs around the perimeter of the bag (3) to completely open or close the bag (3). The bag (3) comprises volume-reducing means, of which several examples will be cited.

[0030] Firstly, extensions (33) of the bag (3) can be provided by means of zippers that shorten the height of the bag (3). For this purpose, both sides of the zippers are separated, on both sides of a fold, without an opening in between. When the user joins the two sides of the extension by means of this zipper, the area in between is folded inwards, reducing the height of the bag (3). This solution serves, among other uses, to compress the mattress or mattress topper that has been placed inside the bag (3).

[0031] The bag (3) can also have a hermetic seal, so that the user can create a vacuum inside it, further reducing the thickness of the inner mattress or mattress topper.

[0032] A third option involves a series of straps or belts surrounding the bag, covering both bases, to reduce its size. This solution is the least preferred because it can deform the mattress over time, but is perfectly suited for short periods of time.

[0033] The bag (3) may be integral with the outer layer (1) or form an independent body. If the bag (3) uses a vacuum, it is usually preferable for it to be an independent body to facilitate the closing of the bag without unwanted deformations (for example ripples, wrinkles, etc.), since it is not necessary to check that the connection to the outer layer (1) does not create lines of weakness that break the seal when compressed.

[0034] The face of the outer layer (1) opposite the bag (3) has handles (4), which can be held by hand, passed over the shoulders, etc., regardless of the type of handles (4) provided. It can also have pockets and other accessories, which can also be located on the covers (2).

[0035] In use, the user fully opens the bag (3), with the extensions (33) open. He places the mattress or mattress topper, preferably folded at least once, in the bag (3) and closes the inner base (31). At this point he closes the extensions (33), so that the effective height of the bag (3) is reduced. If the system is vacuum-assisted, the air inside the bag (3) is sucked out.

[0036] After compressing the mattress or mattress topper, the bag (3) is placed inside the outer layer (1), the first side (11) is joined to the third side (13), forming the tube that protects the bag. If the covers (2) are present, they can be closed at that time. It is possible to interchange the order of placing the covers (2) and forming the tube.

[0037] Once everything is in place, the bag is ready for storage or transport.
