[0031] Detailed Description

[0032] With reference to Fig. 1, a transit device 10 for passing at least one cable 11 and / or at least one pipe through a partition 12 is illustrated schematically according to one embodiment. The transit device 10 is arranged for passing one or more cables 11 and / or pipes through a partition 12 in the form of a wall, a floor, a roof or a ceiling. The partition 12 is illustrated by means of dashed lines in Fig. 1. For example, the transit device 10 is arranged to be mounted in a partition 12 such as a wall, ceiling, bulkhead, etc. For example, the transit device 10 is arranged for passing cables 11, such as cables for electricity, communication, computers etc., or pipes for different gases or liquids, such as water, compressed air, hydraulic fluid, cooking gas or other types of liquids or gases. Cables and / or pipes are led in an axial direction through the transit device 10.

[0033] The transit device 10 according to Fig. 1 is arranged for receiving one or more sealing modules 13, a compression unit 14 and optionally stayplates 15. The sealing modules 13 may be arranged in different sizes and a plurality of different sealing modules 13 may be arranged in different configurations. For example, the sealing modules 13, the compression unit 14 and the stayplates 15, if applicable, are of conventional type. For example, the sealing modules 13 are resilient and comprises two opposite sealing halves 16, wherein each module half 16 comprises a plurality of peelable sheets 17 placed in a semi-cylindrical groove 18 as illustrated in Fig. 2. Optionally, a suitable number of peelable sheets 17 is removed to adapt the sealing module 16 to the diameter of the cable or pipe, wherein the cable 11 or pipe is placed in the module half 16 and a sealing module 13 is formed by placing two module halves 16 on top of each other. For example, the compression unit 14 is a conventional wedge. For example, the compression unit 14 is operable between a compressed position and a noncompressed position by means of screws 14a, 14b in a conventional manner.

[0034] The transit device 10 comprises a frame system having one or more frames 19 and a mounting flange 20. The transit device 10 of Fig. 1 comprises a single frame 19. The frame 19 forms an axially extending through opening through which the one or more cables and / or pipes can be arranged. The frame 19 is also arranged for receiving one or more compressible sealing modules 13 for sealingly holding the one or more cables and / or pipes. Hence, the opening of the frame 19 is arranged to be sealingly filled with sealing modules 13 and one or more compression units 14 and optionally one or more stayplates 15. For example, the frame 19 is formed in plastic materials, such as fiber reinforced plastic materials. For example, the frame 19 is made of polyamide, such as glass fiber reinforced polyamide. The frame 19 is substantially rectangular and its opening is substantially rectangular. The frame 19 comprises a first frame element 19a and a second frame element 19b. The first frame element 19a is connected to the second frame element 19b to form the frame 19. Hence, the frame 19 receiving the sealing modules 13 is a modular frame. For example, the frame elements 19a, 19b are substantially C-shaped. For example, each of the frame elements 19a, 19b have first and second sides arranged in parallel and connected by a third side extending perpendicularly to the first and second sides.

[0035] The mounting flange 20 is arranged for fastening of the transit device 10 to the partition 12, such as through screws 21, wherein the mounting flange 20 may be provided with corresponding screw holes. The mounting flange 20 extends radially outward from the frame 19 for overlapping the partition 12 around the opening. The mounting flange 20 extends in a radial plane. The mounting flange 20 is a modular mounting flange and comprises a plurality of mounting flange parts, which will be described below. In Fig. 1 the mounting flange 20 comprises four corner parts 20a connected to each other to form the mounting flange 20.

[0036] With reference also to Fig. 3, the frame system is illustrated with two frames 19, wherein one frame 19 is arranged on a front side of the mounting flange 20 and the other is arranged on the opposite rear side of the mounting flange 20. Each of the frames 19 are formed by the first and second frame elements 19a, 19b. For example, the frames 19 are attached to the mounting flange 20 by means of screws 22, wherein the frames 19 may be provided with corresponding holes.

[0037] The frame system is arranged for providing the desired number of through openings. Hence, the frame system comprises a plurality of mounting flange parts 20a-d forming the mounting flange 20. The different mounting flange parts 20a-d are illustrated in Figs. 4 to 7. The mounting flange parts 20a-d are selected from four comer parts 20a, at least two side parts 20b, 20c and at least one central part 20d, which are connected to each other to form the mounting flange 20 of the frame system. The corner part 20a is illustrated in Fig. 4. The corner part 20a is L-shaped, i.e. having two legs arranged perpendicular to each other. For example, one of the two legs is longer than the other. Hence, the corner part 20a has two ends. Fig. 5 illustrates a side part in the form of a long side part 20b, wherein Fig. 6 illustrates a side part in the form of a short side part 20c. The side parts 20a, 20b are T-shapes, i.e. having three legs and three ends. Fig. 7 illustrates the central part 20d. The central part 20d is cross shaped and thus comprises four legs and four ends. The mounting flange 20 is modular and mounting flange parts 20a-d can be selected and assembled to form any suitable number of through openings in columns and rows in a plane. Hence, the mounting flange parts 20a-d can be arranged as a grid. The mounting flange 20 comprises four corner parts 20a and any suitable number of side parts 20b, 20c and central parts 20d.

[0038] Each mounting flange part 20a-20d is formed with a recess 23 at each end. The recess 23 extends across the end in the plane of each mounting flange part 20a-d to form a corresponding protrusion 24 at each end. Hence, each end is formed with a recess 23 and a protrusion extending in the plane of the mounting flange part 20a, 20d. The recess 23 of one end is arranged for receiving the protrusion 24 of an adjacent mounting flange part 20a-20d, so that the ends of adjacent mounting flange parts 20a-20d overlap in the axial direction.

[0039] According to one embodiment, both recesses 23 are arranged in the same radially extending plane wherein the corresponding protrusions 24 extend in the same radially extending plane in parallel to the plane of the recess. Hence, both recesses 23 are arranged in the same side in the corner part 20a. To connect one corner part 20a with another corner part 20a, one of them need to be flipped over, i.e. rotated 180 degrees in its plane, so that the recess 23 of one comer part 20a can receive the protrusion 24 of the adjacent comer part 20a. The long side part 20b has opposite ends, wherein one end has the recess 23 in a first plane and the opposite end has the recess in a second plane parallel to the firs plane, i.e. the recesses 23 are on opposite sides of the long side part 20b. Similar applies for the short side part 20c. The central part 20d has the recesses 23 arranged in the same plane in all four ends.

[0040] In the illustrated embodiments the ends of selected mounting flange parts 20a-d have holes 25 for receiving some of the screws 21. Hence, each protrusion 24 is provided with at least one hole 25. In the illustrated embodiment, each protrusion 23 is provided with two holes 25. The holes 25 are arranged to be aligned with the holes 25 of the protrusion 24 of an adjacent mounting flange part 20a-d inserted in the recess 23. Then, the mounting flange parts 20a-d are fastened to each other by means of some of the screws 21 while optionally being attached to the partition 12 by means of the same screws 21. Naturally, the mounting flange 20 formed by the selected mounting flange parts 20a-d are also fastened to the partition by the screws 21 arranged in screw holes 25 in other portions of each mounting flange part 20a-d.

[0041] With reference to Fig. 8 the frame 19 is illustrated according to one embodiment, wherein the first and second frame elements 19a, 19b are overlapping in the ends in a similar manner as the mounting flange parts 20a-d. Hence, the ends of the frame elements 19a, 19b are formed with a recess 26 and a protrusion 27, wherein the recess 26 of the first frame element 19a is arranged for receiving the protrusion of the second frame element 19b and vice versa. In the illustrated embodiment, the protrusion 27 in one end is arranged in a plane parallel to the protrusion in the other end. For example, the first and second frame elements 10a, 19b are identical. The protrusions 27 are in the illustrated embodiment provided with a hole 28 for receiving a screw or similar fastening means for fastening the frame 19 to the mounting flange 20.

[0042] With reference to Fig. 9 an optional cover 29 for the opening in the frame 19 is illustrated. The cover 29 is arranged for covering the through opening of the frame 19 before installation of sealing modules 13 therein. For example, the cover 29 is moulded together with the first frame element 19a and connected to the first frame element through breakable bridges. Alternatively, the cover 29 is attached to the frame 19, for example through snap-lock tabs 30.

[0043] With reference to Fig. 10 different configurations of the mounting flange 20 are illustrated. The top left figure is a view of a mounting flange 20 comprising four comer parts 20a and four short side parts 20c to form three through openings. The comer parts 20a are connected in pairs to form opposite ends of the mounting flange 20, wherein the short side parts 20c are arranged between the pairs of corner parts 20a. Hence, each of the short side parts 20c are connected to a corner part 20a in a first end, a short side part 20c in an opposite second end and another short side part 20c in a third end to form a single row of three through openings. Of course, any number of short side parts 20c can be arranged between the pairs of corner parts 20a. In such a case, the additional short side parts 20c are connected to other short side parts 20c in all three ends. Hence, to form a single row of any number of through openings only four corner parts 20a and the desired number of short side parts 20c are used.

[0044] In the lower left view a mounting flange 20 with a single through opening is formed by only the four comer parts 20a. The mounting flange 20 of said view is illustrated with frames 19 on both sides of the mounting flange 20.

[0045] The central view is a view of a mounting flange 20 comprising four comer parts 20a and four long side parts 20b to form three through openings. The comer parts 20a are connected in pairs to form opposite ends of the mounting flange 20, wherein the long side parts 20b are arranged between the pairs of corner parts 20a. Hence, each of the long side parts 20b are connected to a comer part 20a in a first end, a long side part 20b in an opposite second end and another long side part 20b in a third end to form a single column of three through openings. Any number of long side parts 20b can be arranged between the pairs of comer parts 20a. In such a case, the additional long side parts 20b are connected to other long side parts 20b in all three ends. Hence, to form a single column of any number of through openings only four comer parts 20a and the desired number of long side parts 20b are used. The column of through openings extends perpendicular to the row of through openings. Hence, the short side parts 20c allow for building the mounting flange 20 for any number of through openings in a first direction in a plane, wherein the long side parts 20b allow for building the mounting flange 20 for any number of through openings in an opposite second direction in said plane. For example, the short side parts 20c are arranged for extending the mounting flange in a horizontal direction, wherein the long side parts 20b are arranged for extending the frame in a vertical direction. As described above, the long side parts 20b and the short side parts 20c are arranged for providing rectangular through openings. If square openings are desired only side parts of the same length are required for extending the mounting flange 20 both in the vertical and horizontal directions. The mounting flange 20 of said view is illustrated with frames 19 on both sides of the mounting flange 20 at the lowermost through opening alone.

[0046] With reference to the lower right view the mounting flange 20 comprises four comer parts 20a, two long side parts 20b, two short side parts 20c and one central part 20d to provide four through openings. The central part 20d is connected to the short side parts 20c and the long side parts 20b to form a grid with the through openings.

[0047] In the embodiment of Fig. 10 the mounting flange parts 20a-d are connected to each other through the overlapping protrusions 24 and the screws 21 arranged through the screw holes 25 of the mounting flange parts 20a-20d. The mounting flange parts 20a-d are also connected to each other through the screws 22 connecting the frame(s) 19 to the mounting flange 20. Hence, at least one of the holes 21 in selected protrusions 24 of each of the mounting flange parts 20a-d can receive a screw 22 connecting the frame elements 19a-b to the mounting flange 20. With reference to Fig. 11, a frame system comprising nine through openings is illustrated. The frame system comprises nine frames 19 on each side of the mounting flange 20, wherein the mounting flange 20 comprises four comer parts 20a, four central parts 20d, four short side parts 20c and four long side parts 20b. It is understood that the frame system can be extended both vertically and horizontally in the plane of the frame system as desired and thus have at least one row and / or at least one column of through openings with a frame 19 around each of the through openings. Hence, the frame system comprises four corner parts 20a, any suitable number of side parts 20b, 20c and any suitable number of central parts 20d to form a frame system with any desired number of through openings for receiving the sealing modules 13, compression units 14 and the optional stayplates 15.

[0048] In the embodiment of Fig. 11 the mounting flange parts 20a-d are connected to each other by cooperating locking mechanisms 31. For example, the mounting flange parts 20a-d have at least one locking mechanism 31 in every end for connection to an adjacent mounting flange part 20a-d. Hence, each of the comer parts 20a has two locking mechanisms 31, each of the side parts 20b, 20c has three locking mechanisms 31 and the central part 20d has four locking mechanisms 31. For example, the locking mechanism 31 is a snap-lock mechanism, wherein at least one inherent resilient flexible part of the locking mechanism 31 cooperates with a slot and / or another inherent resilient flexible part of the locking mechanism 31 of an adjacent mounting flange part 20a-d. For example, the locking mechanisms 31 are a combination of form-fit lock and snaplock mechanisms, so that the mounting flange parts 20a-d are connectable to each other. Optionally, the locking mechanisms 31 are releasable, so that the mounting flange parts 20a-d can be released from each other and disassembled and reused.

[0049] With reference also to Figs. 12-14, the locking mechanism 31 is illustrated more in detail according to one embodiment. In Figs. 12-14 the corner part 20a is illustrated but the locking mechanism 31 as such is similar for all mounting flange parts 20a-d. Each end of each mounting flange part 20a-d comprises the locking mechanism 31. The locking mechanism 31 of Figs. 12-14 is a snap-lock mechanism, wherein the locking mechanism 31 comprises a flexible hook member 32 and a slot 33 for receiving the hook member 32 of an adjacent mounting flange part 20a-d. In the illustrated embodiment each end portion of each mounting flange part 20a-d comprises both the hook member 32 and the slot 33. The hook member 32 is resiliently flexible by the inherent properties of the material of the mounting flange parts 20a-d. The hook member 32 projects from the protrusion 24. For example, the hook member 32 projects from an outer free side of the protrusion 24.

[0050] The hook member 32 has an arm 32a and a hook portion 32b. The arm 32 is projecting in the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d and is resiliently flexible so it can be displaced from said plane and is biased towards said plane. The hook portion 32b extends in a direction offset from said plane. For example, the hook portion 32b extends in the axial direction, wherein the arm 32a extends in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction. For example, the hook portion 32b extends substantially perpendicular to the arm 32a.

[0051] The outer end of the protrusion 24 also comprises tabs 34 extending in the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d, i.e. in a plane perpendicular to the axial direction. The tabs 34 may be fixed. The tabs 34 are part of the locking mechanism 31. For example, tabs 34 are arranged on both sides of the locking member 32. The tabs 34 may be arranged with a step as in the illustrated embodiment, wherein the tabs 34 have a thinner portion 34a and a thicker portion 34b. For example, the thicker portion 34b is arranged closer to the hook member 32, such as adjacent the hook member 32, wherein the thinner portion 34a is arranged more remote from the hook member 32. Hence, the thicker portion 34b is arranged between the hook member 32 and the thinner portion 34b.

[0052] The slot 33 comprises a first slot section 33a, second slot sections 33b and a third slot section 33c. The first slot section 33a is arranged for receiving the hook portion 32b. Hence, the first slot section 33a extends in a plane perpendicular the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d. For example, the first slot section 33a has a shape substantially corresponding to the hook portion 32b.

[0053] The second slot sections 33b are arranged for receiving the thinner portion 34a of the tabs 34 to prevent relative movement between the connected mounting flange parts 20a-d in the axial direction. The second slot sections 33b extend from the protrusion 24 and the recess 23 and into a thicker portion of the mounting flange part 20a-d so that the second slot sections 33b are partly covered. The second slot sections 33b are illustrated by the dashed lines in Fig. 12. The end portion with the recess 23 is thinner than the portion of the mounting flange part 20a-d adjacent the recess 23 and the second slot sections 33b extend into the thicker portion in a plane parallel to the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d.

[0054] The third slot section 33c is arranged for receiving the thicker portion 34b of the tabs 34 and for receiving the arm 32a of the hook member 32 when the hook portion 32b is arranged in the first slot section 33a. For example, the third slot section 33c is not covered like the second slot sections 33b but is instead open in one axial direction. For example, the third slot section 33c is arranged centrally in the slot 33 between the second slot sections 33b. For example, the first slot section 33a and the third slot section 33c are aligned with each other, so that the hook portion 32b can be brought across the third slot section 33c and into the first slot section 33a.

[0055] Hence, the first slot section 32a is arranged for receiving the hook portion 32b to prevent movement in the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d, wherein the second slot section 33b is arranged for receiving the tabs 34 or at least the thinner portion 34a thereof to prevent movement also in the axial direction, i.e. in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d. The thicker portion 34b of the tabs 34 may be arranged to prevent movement of the mounting flange part 20a-d in relation to the adjacent one in three directions in the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d by means of the shape of the third slot section 33c. The hook member 32 is displaceable from the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d and can snap into the slot 33 of an adjacent mounting flange part 20a-d to prevent movement of the mounting flange part 20a-d in relation to the adjacent one in the remaining fourth direction in the plane of the mounting flange parts 20a-d. Hence, the locking mechanism 31 connects adjacent mounting flange parts 20a-d in a secure and efficient manner.

[0056] In Figs. 13 and 14 the connection of two mounting flange parts 20a-d in the form of two corner parts 20a is illustrated schematically. To connect the mounting flange parts 20a-d, they are brought toward each other in their plane, which is illustrated by means of the arrows A. One or both of the mounting flange parts 20a-d can be moved toward the other, so that the protrusions 24 overlap. The hook member 32 of one mounting flange part 20a-d is brought into the slot 33 of the other and vice versa. The tabs 34 are brought into the second slot sections 33b. The hook member 32 is displaced from its resting position by the inherent flexible properties of the arm 32a, e.g. by the hook portion 32b being pressed against the face of the protrusion 24, until it reaches and engages the first slot section 33a by returning to or towards its resting position. At the same time the thicker portion 34b is received in the third slot section 33c in a form-fit lock. Optionally, the mounting flange parts 20a-d can be separated by unlocking the locking mechanisms 31, e.g. by lifting the hook portion 32b to release it from the first slot section 33a, after which the thinner portions 34a of the tabs 34 can be slid out of the second slot sections 33b while the thicker portions 34b are be slid out of the third slot section 33c.

[0057] With reference also to Figs. 15 and 16 another embodiment of the mounting flange parts 20a-d is illustrated schematically, wherein a seal 35 is arranged in the recesses 23 to provide a sealing between the connected mounting flange parts 20a-d. Optionally, all recesses 23 of all mounting flange parts 20a-d are provided with the seal 35. Fig. 15 is an exploded view illustrating the seals 35 separate from the recesses 23 of the corner part 20a. In Fig. 16 the seals 35 are arranged in the recesses 24 in both ends of the corner part 20a. When the mounting flange parts 20a-d are connected to each other, the seals 35 of adjacent mounting flange parts 20a-d contact each other to provide a tight seal. In the illustrated embodiment, the seals 35 are formed with a central portion having recesses in opposite sides for the locking member 32 and the slot 33, respectively. The remaining portions of said opposite edges comprises flanges for contacting the outer edge of the protrusion 24 and a step between the protrusion 24 and the thicker part of the mounting flange part 20a-d to provide a tight end efficient sealing between the mounting flange parts 20a-d. The seals 35 may have openings for the holes 25 in the protrusions 24. Also the screw holes 25 of the mounting flange parts 20a-d in other positions than the seal 35 may be provided with a ring seal 36 or similar.
