FENCE POST SLEEVEFIELD OF INVENTION

[0001] The present disclosure generally relates to the field of fencing technology, and more specifically, to systems and devices that facilitate the installation of a new fence design without removing an existing fence.BACKGROUND

[0002] Fencing is a common feature in residential, commercial, and agricultural properties. It serves various purposes such as marking property boundaries, providing privacy, enhancing aesthetic appeal, and ensuring security. Fences are typically constructed from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, vinyl, and composite materials, among others. The choice of material often depends on the specific requirements of the property owner, such as durability, maintenance, cost, and aesthetic preferences.

[0007] According to a first aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a fence post sleeve system according to claim 1. In particular, there is provided a fence post sleeve system for attaching additional fence panels to an existing fence, said existing fence comprising at least one existing fence post and at least one existing fence panel supported within a recess of the existing fence post, said system comprising: a fence post sleeve configured to attach to the existing fence post, the fence post sleeve at least partially covering a face of the existing fence post; the fence post sleeve comprising one or more fence panel receiving channels, said channels running separate from, and substantially parallel to, the recess; the fence panel receiving channel being positioned to accommodate the installation of additional fence panels, enabling installation of the additional fence panels in front of the existing fence.

[0008] The present disclosure describes a system that may be installed to an existing fence, with the additional fence panels installed seamlessly and allowing for the addition of a facia or finishing from the additional fence panels that can be chosen to provide the desired aesthetic. By providing the channel for additional fence panels extending away from the face of the fence post provides an overlap between the additional fence panel and the fence post sleeve. A fence post sleeve system for attaching additional fence panels to an existing fence, said existing fence comprising at least one existing fence post and at least one existing fence panel supported within a recess of the existing fence post, said system comprising: a fence post sleeve configured to attach to the existing fence post, the fence post sleeve at least partially covering a face of the existing fence post; the fence post sleeve comprising one or more fence panel receiving channels, said channels running separate from, and substantially parallel to, the recess; the fence panel receiving channel being positioned to accommodate the installation of additional fence panels, enabling installation of the additional fence panels in front of the existing fence.

2. The fence post sleeve system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fence post receiving channel extends from and is spaced away from the face of the fence post.

3. The fence post sleeve system of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein two fence panel receiving channels are provided, each for installation of one additional fence panel.

4. The fence post sleeve system of claim 3, wherein the first and second fence panel receiving channels are positioned to accommodate first and second additional fence panels that are adjacent to, and in-plane, to one another.

5. The fence post sleeve system of claim 4, wherein the fence post sleeve has opposed first and second gripping arms that, in combination with a fence post interface wall, create the space to connect to and slidingly receive the existing fence post.

6. The fence post sleeve system of claim 3, wherein the first and second fence panel receiving channels face in perpendicular directions to one another to accommodate first and second additional fence panels that are adjacent to, and extend perpendicularly relative to, one another.

The fence post sleeve system of claim 6, wherein the fence post sleeve comprises a corner mounting bracket for fastening to an outer corner of the existing fence post, which is an existing corner fence post, such that the fence post sleeve further at least partially covers a second face of the existing corner fence post.

The fence post sleeve system of claim 7, wherein the corner mounting bracket defines first and second receiving lips, each lip forming a cantilevered lip at opposed ends of the corner mounting bracket to provide a gap between a face of the existing corner fence post and the underside of the first and second receiving lips; and wherein the fence post sleeve has first and second mounting skirts that slide behind the first and second receiving lips to secure the fence post sleeve to the existing corner fence post and the fencepost sleeve, wherein two fence panel receiving channels are provided, that each allow for the insertion and secure attachment of an additional fence panel.

9. The fence post sleeve system of any preceding claim, wherein the fence post sleeve is made of molded plastic.

10. The fence post sleeve system of any preceding claim, wherein the fence post sleeve includes a removable cover to prevent water and dirt ingress.11 . The fence post sleeve system of any preceding claim, wherein the fence post sleeve has a height of between 1 and 2.5 meters and a width of between 10 to 20 centimeters.

12. The fence post sleeve system of any preceding claim, wherein the at least one fence panel receiving channel includes gripping nubs on internal walls thereof for securing the additional fence panel.

A method for installing a new fence design in front of an existing fence wherein the existing fence has existing fence panels secured in existing recesses of existing fence posts, said method comprising the steps of: providing a fence post sleeve to connect to the existing fence post, the fence post sleeve comprising one or more fence panel receiving channels, said channels running separate from, and substantially parallel to a recess within one of the existing fence posts; sliding the fence post sleeve over the existing fence post to at least partially cover a face of the fence post; and sliding an additional fence panel into each fence panel receiving channel, so that a new fence is installed in front of the existing fence.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the fence post sleeve is made of molded plastic.

15. A fencing system for installation to an existing fence, said existing fence having at least one existing fence post, at least one existing corner fence post and at least one existing fence panel supported within a recess of the existing fence post and a recess of the existing corner fence post, wherein the system comprises: a fence post sleeve system according to any one of claims 2 to 5 for installation in front of the existing fence post and the existing fence panel; and a fence post sleeve system according to any one claims 6 to 8 for installation in front of the existing fence panel and the existing corner fence post.
