Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] Self-locking sliding handle

[0003] Object

[0004] This document refers to a self-locking sliding handle for pet leashes, especially for medium to large dogs, which are the pets that are regularly taken out to the street or any open space to relieve themselves and get some exercise while walking with their owner.

[0005] State of the art

[0006] The use of leashes for carrying pets such as dogs is well known, and there are different types of leashes that have different physical and design characteristics such as a flat leash, a rope or cord of circular section, a chain, and all these leashes comprise a front end physically connected to a hook attached to the animal's collar and a rear end of handle for the pet's holder.

[0007] Leashes for medium to large dogs are usually between 1 and 3 meters long, allowing the pet to walk a little further away and in front of the pet owner if it is necessary to cross a street or road, avoiding a risky situation for the pet and the owner.

[0008] Normally, when crossing the road, the pet owner holds the animal by the leash about 50 cm from themselves, keeping the pet close so it crosses the road at the same time. However, this situation presents a certain risk if, during the crossing, the pet runs away, pulling on the leash, which can slip and cause abrasions to the owner's hand. Simultaneously, the pet runs away, creating a dangerous situation for both the pet and the owner, as well as for other pedestrians and vehicles in and around the crossing. Therefore, using this type of leash for a pet can lead to situations of loss of control and, consequently, lacks safety.

[0009] Summary

[0010] An object of an embodiment of a self-locking sliding handle is to provide a grip that moves, in both directions, between the ends of a restraint leash of a medium-large pet, to control the length of restraint leash existing between the pet and the carrier of this restraint leash, allowing the pet to be away, at a predetermined distance, and in the environment of the carrier.

[0011] The sliding handle prevents the handler's hand from suffering abrasions as it moves along the leash, by avoiding direct contact with the leash. If the pet pulls on the leash, causing a sudden acceleration, and the handler is holding the sliding handle, it prevents the leash from slipping, avoids burns on the handler's hand, and prevents the pet from moving away.

[0012] The carrier maintains control at all times over the length of the restraint strap between the pet and the carrier, avoiding potential risk situations for both the animal and the carrier.

[0013] The carrier takes the pet to a predetermined distance with the same restraint strap with hardly any effort, attaching the self-locking sliding handle to the restraint strap, so that, if the pet pulls on the restraint strap, this strap tightens and the sliding handle self-locks, limiting the movement of the animal away from the carrier.

[0014] However, if the leash is slack, the sliding handle slides along the length of the leash. The self-locking sliding handle continues to slide until the pet's leash reaches a preset target distance.

[0015] The sliding handle comprises a C-shaped housing, where a front end is mechanically connected by means of a gripping body to a rear end of the C-shaped housing.

[0016] A hollow cylindrical channel with a front inlet and a rear outlet is formed at the free end of the front end of the C-shaped housing, allowing the self-locking sliding handle to slide bidirectionally between a front end for attaching the animal restraint strap and a rear end for securing the animal restraint strap.

[0017] Inside the C-shaped housing is a toothed circular sector that mechanically interacts with a spring-activated trigger comprising two torsion springs physically connected as a single unit—a double torsion spring. When the trigger is activated, moving from an unlocked to a locked position, the restraint strap moves from a free-sliding position to a locked position, thus controlling the length of the restraint strap between the pet and the person using the sliding handle. This strap length limits the pet's movement.

[0018] The locked position of the leash predetermines the pet's path within the carrier's vicinity. In this locked position of the self-locking sliding handle, the carrier can slide the handle toward the pet without first releasing the handle by pulling the trigger. However, if the pet pulls on the leash, the locked sliding handle prevents it from sliding by moving the front end of the leash away from the front end of the sliding handle.

[0019] The trigger is activated by the double torsion spring, which releases stored rotational energy, exerting pressure on the toothed circular sector. This allows at least one tooth of the circular sector to engage with the retaining strap. The retaining strap is then locked in the locked position.

[0020] The C-shaped housing includes an arched groove that guides the trigger's movement between the locked position at the upper end of the groove and the free-sliding position at the lower end. This arched groove allows for bidirectional trigger movement and helps control trigger wear.

[0021] The toothed circular sector, trigger, clutch, protruding latch, and double torsion spring form a one-way braking mechanism. Thus, if the pet pulls and the braking mechanism is activated, the C-shaped housing stops the leash from sliding.

[0022] If the trigger latch engages in the protruding projection, the tether strap is released and retracted by pulling on the strap, drawing the pet towards the sliding handle.

[0023] The ergonomic, self-locking sliding handle is attached to the leash and has a compact design. The sliding handle allows you to easily move your pet, such as a dog, closer to or further from you using the same leash with minimal effort. Simply attach the sliding handle to the leash, and it will slide along the leash when not under tension. Brief description of the figures

[0024] A more detailed explanation of the self-locking sliding handle according to some embodiments is given in the following description based on the accompanying figures in which: Figure 1 shows in a perspective view a self-locking sliding handle of a pet leash, Figure 2 shows in an elevation view the outer surface of the front part of the self-locking sliding handle, Figure 3 shows in an elevation view an inner cavity of the front part of the self-locking sliding handle in a transition position from a free-sliding position to a locking position of the self-locking sliding handle, Figure 4 shows in an elevation view the inner cavity of the front part of the self-locking sliding handle in the locking position of the self-locking sliding handle,Figure 5 shows in an elevation view a double torsion spring housed within the inner cavity of the front part of the self-locking sliding handle in the locking position of the self-locking sliding handle, and Figure 6 shows another embodiment of the self-locking sliding handle in which the rear attachment end of the pet restraint strap terminates in an oval-shaped grip.

[0025] Detailed description

[0026] Now, referring to Figure 1, which shows a self-locking sliding handle 11 attached to an animal restraint strap 16. The ergonomic sliding handle 11 is made of molded plastic material.

[0027] With regard to Figures 1 to 5, which show an embodiment of the sliding handle 11 comprising a housing 12 divided into two facing halves assembled together, where one of the halves comprises a plurality of perforated projections 24 and the other half of the housing 12 comprises a plurality of through holes through which mechanical fasteners of the screw type are inserted until these fasteners penetrate into the projections 24 to fix both facing halves together, in order to assemble the housing 12 into a single sliding handle piece 11. The assembled housing 12 has a “C” shape comprising a front end 13 mechanically connected by means of a grip body 14 to a rear end 15 of the C-shaped housing 12.

[0028] A hollow cylindrical channel 21 formed at the free end 131 of the front end 13, having a front inlet 22 and a rear outlet 23, which embraces the animal's restraint strap 16, allowing the self-locking sliding handle 11 to slide bidirectionally between a front hook end 17 of the restraint strap 16 and a rear attachment end 19 of the animal's restraint strap 16.

[0029] The rear fixing end 19 is inserted into a hollow cavity 18, located at the free end 151 of the rear end 15 of the C-shaped housing 12. The rear fixing end 19 of the fastening strap 16 is removably fixed to the hollow cavity 18 sliding handle 11. The rear fixing end 19 terminates in a magnetic element.

[0030] With regard to Figure 6, which shows another embodiment in which the rear fixing end 19 terminates in an oval-shaped handle that is fixed or hooked to a wrist of the wearer, to a hook located on the edge of the free end 151 of the rear end 15 of the self-locking sliding handle 11, preventing the fastening strap 16 from hanging if it is retracted.

[0031] The housing 12 in C comprises a movable toothed circular sector 25, which cooperates mechanically with a movable trigger 26 and is activated by a movable clutch 27 and a double torsion spring 51, which allows the clamping strap 16 to move from a locked position to a free-sliding position and vice versa.

[0032] Now in relation to figures 2 to 5, where the movement of the circular sector 25 is shown from the free-slip position, figure 2, to the locking position, figure 4, of the clamping strap 16.

[0033] The restraint strap 16 locks if pulled away from the housing 12 at point C, see Figure 4. However, the carrier can slide the sliding handle 11 towards the pet without the carrier having to pull the trigger 26 to release the sliding handle 11. If the pet pulls on the strap 16 and the sliding handle 11 is in the locked position, the strap 16 is locked and the pet is unable to move away from the front attachment point 17 of the front end 13 of the sliding handle 11. If pulled in the direction of the sliding handle 11, the circular sector 25 allows the restraint strap 16 to be retracted. The position of the circular sector 25 brakes the restraint strap 16. The design of the circular sector 25 allows the restraint strap 16 to slide only towards the sliding handle 16.

[0034] A movable latch 261 is located at the free end of the trigger 26 which engages in a projection 262 housed in an inner cavity 31 of one half of the housing 12. The projection 262 extends from the inner surface of the inner cavity 31. The inner cavity 31 of the housing 13 includes an arched groove 28, and the projection 262 is located in proximity to the upper end of the arched groove 28, which is located on the outside opposite the cylindrical channel 21.

[0035] The arched guide groove 28 guides the movement of the trigger 26 between the locked position at the upper end of the arched groove 28 and the free-sliding position at the lower end of the arched groove 28. The arched groove 28 allows for bidirectional guidance of the trigger 26.

[0036] If the clutch 27 is pressed, the latch 261 is disengaged and the trigger 26 is activated by the torsion spring 51, which exerts a pushing force on the toothed circular sector 25, which moves towards the clamping strap 16, making physical contact with the clamping strap 16, blocking the sliding of this strap 16. In the locked position, at least one tooth of the circular sector 25 is pressed against the clamping strap 16, immobilizing this clamping strap 16 in the locking position of interest to the carrier.

[0037] If the latch 261 engages in the projecting projection 24, the restraint strap 16 is released and retracted by pulling on this strap 16 by the carrier, drawing the pet towards the sliding handle 11. Alternatively, the pet moves within the circular area of the sliding handle 16, which defines the maximum length of the restraint strap 16.

[0038] The combined action of the projecting element 24, the toothed circular sector 25, the trigger 26, the latch 261, the projection 262, the clutch 27, and a double torsion spring 51 form a one-way braking mechanism. The sliding handle 16 allows for monitoring the length of the restraint strap 16 between the pet and the person using the sliding handle 11.

[0039] In relation now to Figure 5, the double torsion spring comprises a front torsion spring 511 housed on a toothed circular sector pivot support 25 and a rear torsion spring 512 housed on a trigger pivot support 26.

[0040] The double torsion spring 51 is a type of spring that works when subjected to torsion, capable of storing mechanical energy. The length of the tether strap 16 limits the range of the pet's movement, achieving positional stabilization at the desired target point of the tether strap 16.

[0041] The fastening strap 16 is made of a suitable flexible material.
