Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide a method that includes moving a handheld device over a print medium, depositing a tagging substance with the handheld device in a tagging pattern on the print medium, further moving the handheld device over the print medium such that at least one sensor of the handheld device senses at least part of the tagging pattern, and determining at least one of a position and / or a velocity of the handheld device based upon the sensing at least part of the tagging pattern. The tagging pattern is configured to provide absolute position information.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 037,552, filed March 18, 2008, entitled "Handheld Mobile Printing Using Real-Time In-Line Tagging," except to those parts consistent with this specification (if any) ), the entire specification of this patent application is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all purposes. technical field [0003] Embodiments of the invention relate to the field of image conversion, and more particularly to determining the position of a handheld image conversion device. Background technique [0004] Conventional printing devices rely on a mechanically operated carriage to transport the printhead in a linear direction while other structures advance the media in an orthogonal direction. An image can be recorded as the printhead moves across the media. Portable printers have been developed through techniques for reducing the size of operating str...
