Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] Embodiments described herein generally relate to methods and apparatus for dispensing slushy beverages. Specifically, embodiments described herein relate to slushy beverage dispensers and methods for automatically dispensing beverage containers containing slushy beverages. Background Art
[0002] Vending machines are commonly used to distribute canned or bottled beverages to consumers in an on-demand manner in various places such as grocery stores, convenience stores, shopping malls, stadiums or concert venues, gas stations, offices and movie theaters. Although conventional vending machines can provide consumers with convenient devices for purchasing beverages, vending machines have many disadvantages. Conventional vending machines are commonly used to store and distribute liquid beverages, and do not provide bottled or canned semi-frozen beverages. Liquid beverages are stored in the refrigerated area of the vending machine to keep the stored beverages at a cooling temperature. However, once the beverage is distributed, the beverage can quickly become hot, which can adversely affect the taste of the beverage. Although some consumers may choose to add ice to their beverages to keep the beverages at a cooling temperature, the beverages can be diluted as the ice melts, which is also undesirable. In addition, conventional vending machines do not usually provide unique or interesting consumer experiences, and simply distribute beverages to areas that consumers can reach. Therefore, for consumers, there may be almost no motivation to buy additional beverages from vending machines or revisit specific vending machines.
[0003] Therefore, there is a need for a method and a dispenser that automatically provides a semi-frozen beverage to a consumer when the consumer selects the beverage without further manual intervention by the consumer. In addition, there is a need for a semi-frozen beverage dispenser that is easy to use and provides a unique entertainment experience. Summary of the invention

[0029] The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the embodiments of the invention as shown in the accompanying drawings. References to "one embodiment", "embodiment", "exemplary embodiment", etc. indicate that the described embodiment may include specific features, structures or characteristics, but each embodiment may not necessarily include the specific features, structures or characteristics. Moreover, such phrases do not necessarily refer to the same embodiment. In addition, when a specific feature, structure or characteristic is described in conjunction with an embodiment, whether or not explicitly described, it is considered that a person skilled in the art can implement such feature, structure or characteristic in conjunction with other embodiments.
[0030] For a variety of reasons, consumers may choose to purchase packaged beverages, such as bottled or canned beverages, rather than fountain or bucket beverages. Packaged beverages remain sealed until the consumer desires to open the beverage for consumption, and in many cases, the beverage can be resealed once opened. Therefore, packaged beverages have improved portability relative to fountain or bucket beverages, which are often dispensed into cups. In addition, some consumers may prefer the experience of drinking directly from a can or bottle rather than from a plastic or paper cup.
[0031] However, packaged beverages are generally limited to liquid beverages, and packaged beverages generally do not include semi-frozen beverages. Semi-frozen beverages may be desirable in situations where consumers wish to enjoy a cool and refreshing beverage with a unique texture. Semi-frozen beverages can remain cool for a longer period of time than simply refrigerated beverages. Since the semi-frozen beverage itself is partially frozen, the semi-frozen beverage is not diluted when the frozen portion of the semi-frozen beverage melts.
[0032] Conventional vending machines usually dispense cold drinks, but usually do not dispense semi-frozen beverages. Although some beverage dispensers are known to dispense semi-frozen beverages to consumers, such beverage dispensers usually require consumers to perform one or more steps of the dispensing process. Consumers may need to select and manually retrieve beverages or beverage containers, and place beverages or beverage containers in a specific position for filling beverage containers or for refrigerating or freezing beverage containers. Consumers may need to perform additional tasks to perform the steps of the dispensing process, such as manually shaking beverages and / or actuating levers or buttons to continue the dispensing process. It is required that users follow a series of steps to dispense semi-frozen beverages, which can be considered time-consuming and inconvenient, which can give consumers a negative impression of beverage dispensers. Requiring users to manually perform the various steps of the dispensing process also introduces the possibility of user error. If the steps of the process are not correctly performed by consumers, beverage dispensers may not function optimally. If the dispensing device does not function correctly, and semi-frozen beverages cannot be dispensed, consumers may experience poorly, and may be unlikely to purchase additional beverages from beverage dispensers.
[0033] Additionally, many conventional beverage dispensers and vending machines simply dispense beverages for consumer use. Such beverage dispensers are purely functional and do not provide an entertaining or unique experience to entice consumers to purchase additional beverages or return to the beverage dispenser after an initial beverage purchase. As a result, consumers may have little motivation to return to a particular beverage dispenser and may choose to purchase beverages from other dispensers or stores.
[0034] Providing semi-frozen beverages in beverage containers such as glass or plastic bottles or glass or plastic cans is desirable to combine the convenience of packaged beverages with the taste and experience of semi-frozen beverages. In addition, if a beverage dispenser allows consumers to witness the semi-frozen process of a beverage changing from liquid to partially frozen, a unique experience may be provided to the consumer. The unique experience may prompt or attract the consumer to purchase additional beverages and may cause the consumer to choose to use a semi-frozen beverage dispenser instead of a competing beverage dispenser.
[0035] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser discussed herein automatically dispenses the semi-frozen beverage to the consumer. In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser discussed herein automatically dispenses the beverage container containing the semi-frozen beverage to the consumer upon receiving user input without further intervention by the consumer. Eliminating the need for the consumer to perform steps in the process of preparing and dispensing the semi-frozen beverage can provide an intuitive and consumer-friendly experience that reliably provides the semi-frozen beverage to the consumer.
[0036] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 includes a housing 110 containing a temperature regulating compartment 140 for storing one or more beverage containers 200 at a predetermined temperature so that consumers cannot access the beverage containers 200. The base 113 is configured to be positioned on a support surface such as a countertop. The base 113 may include one or more feet 111 for contacting the support surface and stably holding the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 in a desired position.
[0040] The housing 110 of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may be formed of any of a variety of materials, including but not limited to metals such as aluminum or stainless steel, polymers or polymer-based materials (including but not limited to polycarbonate, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)), or combinations thereof. The housing 110 may have an integral construction or may be formed as an assembly of sub-components. The housing 110 may be formed by molding such as injection molding, blow molding, or compression molding.
[0041] A delivery opening 112 is provided in the housing 110 for providing access to a dispensed beverage container to a consumer. In some embodiments, the delivery opening 112 is defined by a sidewall 114 of the housing 110, and the delivery opening 112 may be located at any of a variety of locations on the housing 110. The delivery opening 112 may be formed as an opening in the housing 110 that allows a consumer to access a beverage container within the housing 110. In some embodiments, the housing 110 may include a door or cover for removably covering the delivery opening 112 until a beverage container is dispensed from the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100. The housing 110 may define an oval-shaped delivery opening 112, such as Figure 1 As shown, however, in embodiments, the delivery port 112 may be formed to have any of a variety of shapes, including, but not limited to, square, rectangular, bottle-shaped, cylindrical, can-shaped, and other suitable shapes.
[0042] refer to Figure 2 In some embodiments, the housing 110 of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 includes a selectively openable cover 119. In some embodiments, the upper wall 115 of the housing 110 may be or may include a selectively openable cover 119. The selectively openable cover 119 may be movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. In the open configuration, the inlet 141 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 is accessible, such as for filling or refilling the temperature regulating compartment 140 with a beverage container. In the closed configuration, the cover 119 covers the inlet 141 so that the consumer cannot access the inlet 141. Preventing access to the inlet 141 may help prevent unauthorized users from attempting to steal the beverage container or inserting foreign objects into the inlet 141 by removing the beverage container through the inlet 141 of the temperature regulating compartment 140. The cover 119 may be completely removable from the housing 110, or may be pivotally connected to the housing 110, such as by one or more hinges positioned along the edge of the cover 119. The closure 119 may also include a locking mechanism, such as a key lock, combination lock, or electronic lock, as well as other locking devices known in the art, so that only authorized individuals can move the closure 119 from the closed configuration to the open configuration.
[0043] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may also include a user interface 120 for receiving user input such as beverage selections, such as, for example Figure 3 The user interface 120 may be located on any of the various parts of the housing 110, such as on a side wall of the housing 110. The user interface 120 may include an electronic display screen 121, such as Figure 3As shown. The electronic display screen 121 can be a liquid crystal display (LCD) or a light emitting diode (LED) display, and the electronic display screen 121 can be a touch screen display. In an embodiment with an electronic display screen 121, the electronic display screen 121 is configured to display a graphical user interface 122. However, in an alternative embodiment, the user interface 120 can be a series of actuators, such as buttons, levers or handles, each of which corresponds to a specific beverage. The user interface 120 may include an electronic display screen 121 and a graphical user interface 122, which displays information and instructions for consumers, such as a list of available beverages and optional payment information and instructions. In the case where the electronic display screen 121 is a touch screen display, the graphical user interface 122 can be displayed by the user by pressing the position of the icon 124 displayed on the electronic display screen 121 to display one or more icons 124 to be selected. For example, the graphical user interface 122 can display a series of icons 124 corresponding to different beverages, and each icon 124 can be an image of a beverage and / or the name or logo of a beverage. In the case where the electronic display screen 121 is not a touch screen display, the user interface 120 may also include one or more actuators, such as buttons, levers, or handles, for allowing a consumer to input commands and use the actuators to navigate the graphical user interface 122. The receipt of user input by the user interface 120 may be configured to initiate dispensing of a beverage container from the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100.
[0044] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may also include a payment processing system 130. The payment processing system 130 may be separated or integrated from the user interface 120 so that the user interface 120 displays information and instructions on how to make payments and the types of payments accepted. The payment processing system 130 may include one or more slots 132 for accepting different types of payments, such as payments made with banknotes, coins, tokens, debit cards or credit cards. The payment processing system 130 may also include a scanner or reader to allow a user to pay using a mobile payment system. In some embodiments, the payment processing system 130 may be configured to, for example, identify cashless payments via a consumer's mobile phone. In an embodiment, the payment processing system 130 may include a near field communication or radio frequency identification ("RFID") reader for wirelessly receiving account information from a consumer's mobile phone. The semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may require a consumer to pay before providing a beverage container to the consumer. In an exemplary embodiment, the user interface 120 may prompt the user to select a beverage, and then pay for the selected beverage. Upon receiving and confirming the consumer's payment, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may begin dispensing beverage containers as selected by the consumer.
[0045] As shown in the figure, for example, Figure 4 and Figure 5As shown, the temperature regulating compartment 140 is disposed within the interior volume 116 of the housing 110 and is configured to store one or more beverage containers 200 such that consumers cannot access the beverage containers 200. The temperature regulating compartment 140 encloses the beverage containers 200 such that they are not easily accessible, and the temperature regulating compartment 140 is positioned within the housing 110 to further limit access to the stored beverage containers 200. The temperature regulating compartment 140 is shown as being substantially shaped as a rectangular prism, however, the temperature regulating compartment 140 may have any of a variety of shapes.
[0046] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may include one or more additional second temperature regulating compartments 140 so that each temperature regulating compartment 140 is configured to store a specific beverage. For example, the first temperature regulating compartment 140 may store a first type of beverage such as soda, and the second temperature regulating compartment 140 may store a second type of beverage such as sports drinks, water or different types of soda. In this way, the consumer's selection of beverage may cause a beverage container to be dispensed from the corresponding temperature regulating compartment, and the selected beverage is stored in the temperature regulating compartment. Each temperature regulating compartment 140 may have different predetermined temperatures for storing any beverage container therein. The configuration and operation of the temperature regulating compartment 140 and any second temperature regulating compartment 140 may be substantially the same. In addition, the temperature regulating compartment 140 and any second temperature regulating compartment 140 may be positioned in the housing 110 in parallel.
[0047] Although it should be understood that the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may include more than one temperature regulating compartment 140, for simplicity, the following discussion will refer to a single temperature regulating compartment 140. The temperature regulating compartment 140 defines an inlet 141 and an outlet 147. In some embodiments, the inlet 141 is located at an upper end 151 of the temperature regulating compartment 140, and the outlet 147 is located at a lower end 152 of the temperature regulating compartment 140. The inlet 141 provides access to the interior volume of the temperature regulating compartment 140 so that the temperature regulating compartment 140 can be filled or refilled with a beverage container 200 through the inlet 141. The temperature regulating compartment 140 may optionally include an access door 142 for removably covering the inlet 141.
[0048] The beverage container 200 within the temperature regulating compartment 140 can exit the temperature regulating compartment 140 via the outlet 147 in order to move to an area of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 located outside the temperature regulating compartment 140. In some embodiments, upon receiving a user input through the user interface 120 of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100, the beverage container 200 is allowed to exit the temperature regulating compartment 140 via the outlet 147 so that a beverage container corresponding to the user input is dispensed. In some embodiments, the temperature regulating compartment 140 includes an outlet door 148 that removably covers the outlet 147 and prevents the beverage container 200 within the temperature regulating compartment 140 from leaving the compartment 140 prematurely. In some embodiments, the control unit 128 controls the operation of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100, such as selectively allowing the beverage container 200 to exit the temperature regulating compartment 140 via the outlet 147.
[0049] In some embodiments, the temperature regulating compartment 140 is configured to store beverage containers 200 having a substantially cylindrical configuration, such as plastic bottles or glass bottles or plastic or glass jars. In some embodiments, the cylindrical beverage containers 200 can be stored in the temperature regulating compartment 140 in a sideways orientation, wherein the longitudinal axis of each cylindrical beverage container 200 is parallel to the surface on which the beverage container 200 is positioned, so that the beverage container 200 can roll on the surface. In other embodiments, the beverage container 200 can be stored in other configurations (such as, for example, a vertical configuration).
[0050] In one embodiment, the temperature regulating compartment 140 defines a channel 153 that guides the beverage container 200 from the inlet 141 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 to the outlet 147. The channel 153 guides the beverage containers 200 in a sequential manner, so that the first beverage container inserted into the channel 153 is the first beverage container to be dispensed from the temperature regulating compartment 140 through the outlet 147, and the second beverage container inserted into the temperature regulating compartment 140 is the second beverage container to be dispensed, and so on. This helps ensure the rotation of the beverage container 200 contained in the temperature regulating compartment 140.
[0051] In embodiments, such as for example Figures 4 to 5As shown, the passage 153 is defined by one or more shelves 143. The shelves 143 are spaced apart from each other from the upper end 151 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 toward the lower end 152 of the compartment 140. In some embodiments, the shelves 143 are spaced apart at fixed intervals so that the distance between each continuous shelf 143 is the same or substantially the same. Each shelf 143 can be substantially planar and can extend from one side of the temperature regulating compartment 140 toward the opposite side without reaching the opposite side. The shelves 143 can alternate between the first side 144 and the opposite second side 145 originating from the temperature regulating compartment 140 so that the passage 153 defined thereby has a serpentine configuration. The shelves 143 can be sloped or inclined so as to form an angle θ relative to the assumed horizontal axis X. In this way, the slope of each shelf 143 allows the beverage container 200 to roll along the shelf 143 and toward the outlet 147 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 under the action of gravity.
[0052] The temperature regulating compartment 140 may also include one or more movable gates 149 within the temperature regulating compartment 140 for selectively limiting the movement of the beverage container 200 toward the outlet 147 to further prevent the beverage container 200 from escaping the temperature regulating compartment 140 prematurely. The gate 149 may be positioned, for example, on the shelf 143 to inhibit the beverage container 200 from traveling along the shelf 143. When dispensing the beverage container 200, the gate 149 may be lowered to allow the beverage container 200 to travel toward the outlet 147 of the temperature regulating compartment 140, and once the beverage container 200 has traveled, the gate 149 may be raised to inhibit further movement. In some embodiments, the movement of the gate 149 and other operations of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may be controlled by the control unit 128.
[0053] In some embodiments, the temperature regulating compartment 140 can be divided into a first zone 154 maintained at a first predetermined temperature and a second zone 155 maintained at a second predetermined temperature. In some embodiments, the second zone 155 is arranged above the first zone 154 so that the beverage container 200 inserted into the temperature regulating compartment 140 first enters the second zone 155, and when the beverage container 200 moves along the passage 153, the beverage container 200 will enter the first zone 154, where the beverage container can leave the temperature regulating compartment 140 via the outlet 147. In an embodiment, the first zone 154 is maintained at a first predetermined temperature, and the second zone 155 is maintained at a second predetermined temperature, and the temperature of the first zone is lower than the temperature of the second zone. The first zone 154 is maintained at a first predetermined temperature, which is at or below the freezing point of the beverage to be contained in the temperature regulating compartment 140. The second zone 155 is maintained at a temperature higher than the freezing point of the beverage in the beverage container 200 stored in the temperature regulating compartment 140. In one embodiment, the second zone 155 is maintained at a temperature of about 0.1° C. to about 24° C. or about 1° C. to about 12° C. In this way, the second zone 155 serves to reduce the temperature of a beverage container 200 inserted into the temperature regulating compartment 140 so that the beverage container 200 will reach the first predetermined temperature more quickly when moving from the second zone 155 to the first zone 154. Maintaining the second zone 155 at a higher temperature than the first zone 154 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 helps improve the energy efficiency of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 by eliminating the need to maintain the entire temperature regulating compartment 140 at the first predetermined temperature.
[0054] In an embodiment, the first zone 154 and the second zone 155 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 are separated by an insulating partition wall 156. The insulating partition wall 156 is formed in a similar manner to the shelf 143 and can be substantially planar and sloped or inclined so as to form an angle relative to an assumed horizontal axis X. In an embodiment with the insulating partition wall 156, the insulating partition wall 156 and the shelf 143 define a channel 153 within the temperature regulating compartment 140. The insulating partition wall 156 is configured to help maintain the first zone 154 at a first predetermined temperature by inhibiting heat transfer into the first zone 154. The insulating partition wall 156 differs from the shelf 143 in that the insulating partition wall 156 extends completely through the interior volume of the temperature regulating compartment 140 from the first side 144 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 to the opposite second side 145. In order to provide an insulating effect, the insulating partition wall 156 may have a greater thickness than the shelf 143, may be formed of a material having a low thermal conductivity, and / or may have a double-walled construction.
[0055] The insulating partition wall 156 defines a partition wall opening 157 through which a beverage container 200 can enter the first zone 154 from the second zone 155. The partition wall opening 157 can be removably covered by an insulating door 158 that can move between an open configuration and a closed configuration. When the insulating door 158 is in the closed configuration, the insulating partition wall 156 and the insulating door 158 provide a barrier between the first zone 154 and the second zone 155. The insulating door 158 can be biased toward the closed configuration to keep the first zone 154 at a first predetermined temperature. The insulating door 158 can be temporarily opened due to the weight of the beverage container 200 on the insulating door 158 to allow the beverage container 200 to pass through the partition wall opening 157, and once the beverage container 200 has passed through the partition wall opening 157, the insulating door 158 can automatically return to the closed configuration. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the opening and closing of the insulating door 158 can be controlled by the control unit 128.
[0056] In some embodiments, the temperature regulating compartment 140 also includes a counter 190 that is configured to track the number of beverage containers 200 within the temperature regulating compartment 140. Figure 5 As best shown, the counter 190 includes a rotatable shaft 192 rotatable about its longitudinal axis and a plurality of baffles 194 arranged perpendicular to the shaft 192 and extending radially therefrom. The counter 190 may have three baffles 194, such as Figure 5 194 . However, in other embodiments, the counter 190 may have additional or fewer baffles 194. The counter 190 is positioned so that the beverage container 200 must engage the counter 190 to reach the outlet 147 of the temperature regulating compartment 140. In operation, when the beverage container 200 moves along the passage 153 in the temperature regulating compartment 140, the beverage container 200 will encounter the baffle 194, and the movement of the beverage container 200 against the baffle 194 causes the counter 190 to rotate, so that the counter 190 acts as a swivel. In this way, the counter 190 can track the number of beverage containers 200 in the temperature regulating compartment 140 based on the number of rotations of the counter 190. In some embodiments, the counter 190 can also be used as a gate to prevent the beverage container 200 from traveling along the passage 153. When the beverage container 200 is dispensed, the counter 190 can allow the beverage container 200 to travel along the passage 153. In some embodiments, the counter 190 can be controlled by the control unit 128 to selectively allow the counter 190 to rotate when the beverage container is dispensed. In addition, if the beverage container 200 is dispensed from the temperature regulating compartment 140, and the counter 190 does not rotate within the compartment 140 when the remaining beverage containers 200 move toward the outlet 147, it may be necessary to refill the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 with additional beverage containers 200.
[0057] The semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 also includes a cooling system 160, such as Figure 6 As shown. The cooling system 160 is configured to maintain the temperature regulating compartment 140 at a predetermined temperature. In embodiments where the temperature regulating compartment 140 includes a first zone and a second zone, the cooling system 160 may be configured to maintain the first zone at a first predetermined temperature and the second zone at a second predetermined temperature. In addition, in embodiments having multiple temperature regulating compartments 140, the cooling system 160 may be used to maintain the multiple temperature regulating compartments 140 at the same or different temperatures.
[0058] In some embodiments, the predetermined temperature of the temperature regulating compartment 140 may be at or below the freezing point of the beverage to be stored in the temperature regulating compartment 140. The predetermined temperature is selected so that the beverage remains liquid, so that the beverage is overcooled and does not become solid prematurely in the temperature regulating compartment 140. Those of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that freezing points may vary between different beverages, and appropriate temperatures may be selected accordingly. For example, the freezing point of sweetened carbonated beverages is generally lower than the freezing point of bland purified water, and therefore if used to store sweetened carbonated beverages, the temperature regulating compartment 140 may need to be maintained at a lower temperature than when the temperature regulating compartment 140 is used to store bland purified water. In some embodiments, the predetermined temperature of the temperature regulating compartment 140 may be about -24°C to about -0.1°C, about -18°C to about -1°C, or about -12°C to about -2°C.
[0059] In an embodiment, the cooling system 160 includes an evaporator 166 connected to a compressor 162, a condenser 164, and an expansion valve (eg, Figure 4 140 is connected to the temperature regulating compartment 140. The evaporator 166 supplies cooling air to the temperature regulating compartment 140 through a duct 167. The temperature regulating compartment 140 may have a vent 159, through which cooling air can flow from the duct 167 and enter the temperature regulating compartment 140. The duct 167 may also be connected to a fan 168 to promote the circulation of cooling air through the temperature regulating compartment 140. In some embodiments, the cooling system 160 may include one or more temperature sensors positioned in the temperature regulating compartment 140 to determine the temperature in the compartment 140. The cooling system 160 can automatically adjust its operation based on the reading of the temperature sensor to keep the temperature regulating compartment 140 at a predetermined temperature. In an alternative embodiment, other types of cooling systems 160 known in the art can be used, as long as the temperature regulating compartment 140 is kept at a predetermined temperature as described herein.
[0060] The semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 also includes an agitator 170 configured to nucleate the beverage in the beverage container 200. Figures 7 and 8The blender 170 is disposed at the outlet 147 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 of the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100. In some embodiments, upon receiving user input through the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100, the beverage container 200 is allowed to pass from the temperature regulating compartment 140 through the outlet 147 to the blender 170.
[0061] The beverage in the beverage container 200 in the temperature regulating compartment 140 is stored in a supercooled state at a temperature at or below the freezing point of the beverage, and the liquid phase is maintained until stirring or disturbance. The agitator 170 is configured to subject the beverage container 200 to a mechanical shock so that the beverage nucleates and begins a phase change from a liquid to a solid or partially solid (i.e., semi-frozen). The mechanical shock can be provided, for example, by the controlled gravity drop of the beverage container 200 to a surface or platform. Alternatively, the mechanical shock can be provided by hitting the beverage container 200. Once the beverage in the beverage container 200 is subjected to a mechanical shock, the beverage begins to nucleate. As the temperature of the liquid is further reduced to below the freezing point, nucleation can occur faster. Therefore, in some embodiments, it is desirable to store the beverage at a temperature only slightly below the freezing point of the beverage, for example, within 20°C of the freezing point, within 15°C of the freezing point, or within 10°C of the freezing point, so that nucleation occurs more gently, thereby enabling consumers to witness the nucleation of the beverage in the dispensed beverage container.
[0062] In some embodiments, the agitator 170 is configured to cause a controlled gravity fall of the beverage container 200 onto a surface, such as a platform 182. The agitator 170 may include a chute 172 on which the beverage container 200 may slide from the outlet 147 of the temperature regulating compartment 140 onto the platform 182. In an embodiment, the chute 172 is formed in the interior of the housing 110, and in some embodiments, may be integrally formed with the housing 110. The mechanical impact of the beverage container 200 falling onto the platform 182 causes nucleation to occur. In an embodiment, the chute 172 has a smooth, continuous surface having a first portion 173 that is sloped or inclined at an angle θ relative to an assumed horizontal axis Z, the angle being measured between the assumed horizontal axis Z and the first portion 173 of the chute 172. The chute 172 also includes a shoulder region 176 that is a rounded transition region connecting the first portion 173 and the second portion 175 of the chute 172. The second portion 175 may be arranged substantially vertically, so that the second portion 175 of the chute 172 is perpendicular to an assumed horizontal axis Z. The first portion 173 of the chute 172 may be inclined so as to guide the beverage container 200 toward the platform 182. In this way, the beverage container leaving the temperature regulating compartment 140 rolls onto the first portion 173 of the chute 172 and slides on the first portion 173 toward the shoulder area 176, and upon reaching the shoulder area 176, the beverage container 200 falls down along the second portion 175 under the effect of gravity and falls onto the platform 182. The first side of the chute 172 may be defined by a retaining wall 177 and the housing 110 on the opposite side of the chute 172, so that the beverage container 200 remains on the chute 172 and cannot move in an unexpected or uncontrolled manner.
[0063] In some embodiments, it may be desirable to dispense the beverage container 200 in a vertical orientation such that the longitudinal axis of the beverage container is perpendicular to the surface on which the beverage container is positioned, such as in Figure 7 In such embodiments, the chute 172 can be configured to reorient a beverage container 200 stored in a sideways orientation within the temperature regulating compartment 140 to an upright or vertical orientation for presentation to a consumer.
[0064] In an embodiment having two temperature regulating compartments 140, the blender 170 may include two chutes 172, with one chute 172 corresponding to each temperature regulating compartment 140. In such an embodiment, the chutes 172 may each be configured to subject a beverage container to a controlled gravity fall onto a shared platform 182. Thus, if Figure 7 As shown, the two chute slots 172 are mirror images of each other.
[0065] In one embodiment, the agitator 170 includes a striker pin, which is configured to strike the beverage container 200 when leaving the outlet 147 of the temperature regulating compartment 140. The striker pin is configured to subject the beverage container 200 to mechanical shock by acting on the beverage container 200, which can be substantially stationary. The use of the striker pin allows the beverage container 200 to be stirred without having to put down or shake the beverage container 200. The striker pin can be in any of various forms, including a movable rod, a bar, or a hammer. The striker pin can be used to strike any of the various parts of the beverage container 200, such as the side wall, the upper end, or the lower end of the beverage container 200. The striker pin subjects the beverage container 200 to mechanical shock so as to cause the beverage in the beverage container 200 to nucleate. In some embodiments, the mechanical shock imparted by the striker pin has a minimum sufficient force to cause the beverage in the beverage container to nucleate, so as to promote nucleation, while also avoiding any damage to the beverage container 200 or the striker pin that can be caused by the striker beverage container 200. The operation of the striker pin may be controlled by the control unit 128 so as to strike a beverage container that has left the temperature regulating compartment 140 .
[0066] In some embodiments, the slush beverage dispenser 100 can provide the beverage container 200 to the consumer once the beverage container 200 is stirred. Thus, the delivery port 112 of the housing 110 can be operably connected to the stirrer 170 so that the consumer can retrieve the beverage container 200 directly from the stirrer 170 and specifically from the platform 182. However, in some embodiments, the delivery port 112 can be located away from the stirrer 170, and the slush beverage dispenser 100 can further include a dispenser 180 that moves the beverage container 200 from the stirrer 170 to the delivery port 112.
[0067] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may further include a dispenser 180 for moving the beverage container 200 from the blender 170 to the delivery port 112, such as Fig. 9 As shown. The dispenser 180 includes a movable platform 182 configured to move the beverage container 200 from the blender 170 to the delivery port 112. The dispenser 180 can be used to allow the delivery port 112 to be positioned on the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 so that the consumer can easily reach it and the consumer can easily observe the dispensed beverage. In addition, the dispenser 180 can be used to improve the user experience when using the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 by presenting the beverage container 200 to the consumer in a specific manner.
[0068] In one embodiment, the dispenser 180 includes a movable platform 182 on which a beverage container 200 can be positioned for moving the beverage container 200 to the delivery port 112. The movable platform 182 includes a support portion 183 and a rod engagement portion 184 on which the beverage container 200 can be positioned and which is movably connected to a guide rod 185. The guide rod 185 has a lower end 186 and an upper end 187 and is vertically arranged so that the upper end 187 is positioned at a height above the lower end 186. The movable platform 182 can be moved along the guide rod 185 from the lower end 186 toward the upper end 187 to move the beverage container 200 from the agitator 170 to the delivery port 112. A stopper 189 can be positioned at each of the lower end 186 and the upper end 187 of the guide rod 185 so that the movable platform 182 is constrained so as to be able to move only along the guide rod 185. The movable platform 182 can be moved along the guide rod 185 by a motor 188, and the motor 188 can be controlled by the control unit 128. Thus, in such embodiments, the dispenser 180 is configured to lift the beverage container 200 from the blender 170 to the delivery port 112, where the beverage container can be retrieved by the consumer.
[0069] In some embodiments, the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may also be configured to provide a dispensing effect when the beverage container 200 is dispensed from the semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100, such as Fig.10 As shown. In this way, when dispensing beverage container 200 from semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100, semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 provides a unique experience for consumers. In one embodiment, semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 is configured to dispense mist 220 of water vapor through delivery port 112 when beverage container 200 arrives or moves to delivery port 112. Semi-frozen beverage dispenser 100 may include an effect unit for providing mist 220 of water vapor. The effect unit may include a vent hole that can be selectively opened for releasing mist 220.
