[0003] STATEMENT REGARDING FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT
[0004] not applicable. Technical Field
[0005] The present invention relates to a cutting tool assembly for earthmoving, mining or construction applications, and more particularly to a tool having a retainer sleeve having a longitudinal external protrusion to engage with an internal recessed groove of a cylindrical bore of a cutting drill bit holder, and wherein the retainer sleeve has one or more internal radial protrusions, and in some embodiments has four internal radial protrusions, wherein each of these internal radial protrusions has a convex portion that engages a recessed groove in a rotating tool shank. Background Art
[0006] It is necessary to prevent the tool from coming out of the holder during operation. This may occur due to the tool coming out of the holder (leaving the holder in the holder) or the holder coming out of the holder together with the tool. If the force to install the tool with the holder is too great, it is difficult to easily install the tool in the field. The currently known holders allow too much axial movement of the tool during use, which allows the tool to come out of the holder, causing the tool to bend or break. The currently known holder design contacts the shank of the rotating tool at the top of the holder, causing the top of the holder to wear and become thinner. All these problems of the known holders may not prevent the tool from coming out of the holder during operation.
[0007] Background technology discloses the following technologies, such as a rotary conical drill bit retained by a captive retaining ring, a pick-up mining tool with a hard wear-resistant bushing in a retainer, a pick-up mining drill bit with a cylindrical shank, the pick-up mining drill bit having a support block with a hole and a hard insert detachably and rotatably mounted in the hole. In addition, the background technology discloses an elastic retaining device for connecting a working tool and a working retainer and an annular member placed between the working tool and the working tool retainer. Other background technologies disclose a retaining spring for connecting a mining tool to a working retainer, or a retainer sleeve for a rotary drill bit, the retainer sleeve comprising a longitudinally split cylindrical portion and at least four circumferentially spaced protrusions deformed radially inwardly from the longitudinally split cylindrical portion. The background technology also discloses a round shank tool, which includes a shank retained in a hole in a tool holder by a locking sleeve. The locking sleeve has one or more retaining elements, which protrude inwardly and engage in a peripheral groove in the shank of the tool.
[0008] The present invention solves the above-mentioned disadvantages of the background art by comprising a longitudinal protrusion for engaging in a groove in a holder and four inner radial protrusions each having a male portion that engages a groove in a rotary tool shank. [0026] Figure 1-8 A retainer sleeve (32) according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown, the retainer sleeve including a longitudinal external protrusion (34) to engage with an internal recessed groove (25) of a cylindrical bore (20) of a cutting drill bit holder (18), and wherein the retainer sleeve (32) has one or more internal radial protrusions, and in some embodiments has four internal radial protrusions, namely, a first internal radial protrusion (40) having a first convex portion (50), a second internal radial protrusion (41) having a second convex portion (51), a third internal radial protrusion (42) having a third convex portion (52), and a fourth internal radial protrusion (43) having a fourth convex portion (53), the internal radial protrusions engaging the recessed groove (36) in the shank (16) of a rotary tool.
[0027] There has been a need to design a holder sleeve (32) having at least one longitudinal external protrusion (34) which allows the tool to be mounted in a cutting bit holder (18) having an internal concave recess (25) of the cylindrical bore (20) of said cutting bit holder (18) and at the same time the spring pressure of the expanded holder sleeve (32) is applied to the internal cylindrical bore (20) of the cutting bit holder (18). In addition, the holder sleeve (32) should be retained on the tool by at least one internal radial protrusion (40, 41, 42 or 43) having two parallel flat surfaces perpendicular to the tool axis, respectively. In certain embodiments of the present invention, after assembly, the first convex portion (50) of the first inner radial protrusion (40), the second convex portion (51) of the second inner radial protrusion (41), the third convex portion (52) of the third inner radial protrusion (42), and the fourth convex portion (53) of the fourth inner radial protrusion (43) engage the recessed groove (36) on the shank (16) of the rotary tool to prevent the tool from being pulled out of the retainer during operation.
[0028] The longitudinal outer protrusion (34) is designed to collapse the retainer sleeve (32) when the retainer sleeve is installed to reduce friction between the retainer sleeve (32) and the hole (20) of the cutting drill holder (18). The longitudinal outer protrusion (34) is also angled to be introduced into the hole (20) to make it easier to install the tool, such as Figure 6. Angle α can be in the range of 10°-40°, or between 20°-30°. The angled design of the longitudinal external protrusion (34) also helps to make it easier to assemble a gasket (70) as an optional element onto the retainer sleeve (32) over the longitudinal external protrusion (34) during manufacturing. At least one longitudinal external protrusion (34) is required to engage the internal recessed radial groove (25) of the hole (20). The internal radial protrusions (40, 41, 42 and 43) limit axial movement of the tool, which helps prevent the tool from coming out of the retainer and bending / breaking. At least one internal radial protrusion (40, 41, 42 or 43) is required to allow space for the longitudinal external protrusion (34) and the longitudinal split (60), which allows the retainer sleeve (32) to collapse (compress) during installation. The first, second, third and fourth inner radial protrusions (40, 41, 42 and 43) respectively limit the axial movement of the tool so that the top of the retainer sleeve (32) does not contact the hub (73) at the upper portion of the shank (16) of the rotating tool. The first, second, third and fourth inner radial protrusions (40, 41, 42 and 43) of the retainer sleeve (32) will respectively contact both sides of the recessed groove (36) of the shank (16) of the tool. During installation, the top of the recessed groove (36) will respectively contact the top of the first, second, third and fourth inner radial protrusions (40, 41, 42 and 43), and during removal, the bottom of the recessed groove (36) will respectively contact the bottom of the first, second, third and fourth inner radial protrusions (40, 41, 42 and 43). Before the top of the retainer sleeve (32) contacts the hub (73) at the upper portion of the shank (16), the concave groove (36) of the shank (16) will contact the first, second, third and fourth convex portions (50, 51, 52 and 53) of the first, second, third and fourth inner radial protrusions (40, 41, 42 and 43) of the retainer sleeve (32), respectively.
