Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present invention relates to a carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) system, and more particularly to an adsorption unit for capturing carbon dioxide from ambient air. Background Art
[0002] Adsorption gas separation is a common industrial method. In recent years, in order to achieve climate protection goals, carbon dioxide is removed from industrial waste gas or the atmosphere. Therefore, this method is applied in a way that is suitable for favorable energy sources and related infrastructure (processing infrastructure) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and thus reduce the greenhouse effect.
[0003] Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) systems involve the capture of carbon dioxide, typically from large point sources such as power generation or industrial facilities that use fossil fuels or biomass as fuel. CCUS systems can address emissions from hard-to-abate industries, particularly heavy industries such as cement, steel or chemicals. CCUS systems are the enabler of the lowest-cost, low-carbon production of hydrogen, which can support the decarbonization of other parts of the energy system, such as industry, trucks and ships. CCUS systems can remove carbon dioxide from the air to balance emissions that are unavoidable or technically difficult to abate.
[0004] Therefore, it is an important task for those skilled in the art to provide an adsorption unit that can efficiently capture carbon dioxide from ambient air. Summary of the invention

[0043] See also Figure 1 Schematic diagram of the adsorption unit 11 and adsorption module 10 of the present invention is shown. The present invention aims to reduce the greenhouse effect, and for this purpose provides an adsorption unit 11 for capturing carbon dioxide. Therefore, the present invention relates to an adsorption unit 11 for capturing carbon dioxide from ambient air. The ambient air referred to in the present invention includes industrial waste gas or atmosphere with carbon dioxide.
[0044] The present invention uses molecular sieve as an adsorbent material for adsorbing carbon dioxide or water. The adsorbent material is originally in powder form, and the adsorption unit 11 of the present invention has a granular adsorbent material formed by sintering the powder adsorbent material.
[0045] Molecular sieve is a solid chemical functionalized adsorbent material suitable for adsorbing carbon dioxide at a concentration of about 400ppm. Molecular sieve adsorbs carbon dioxide and water at room temperature (i.e. within 25 to 35 degrees Celsius), and the adsorption efficiency decreases with increasing temperature. When the temperature is higher than 60 degrees Celsius, the molecular sieve stops adsorbing and starts desorbing.
[0046] The components of molecular sieve include at least: K2O (potassium oxide), CaO (calcium oxide), Al2O3 (aluminum oxide), SiO2 (silicon dioxide) and Na2O (sodium oxide). The melting point of molecular sieve is about 2230 degrees Celsius. The density of molecular sieve particles is 0.65-0.8g / cm 3 between.
[0047] The present invention provides an adsorption unit 11 having a granular adsorption material. A plurality of adsorption units 11 can be stacked to form an adsorption module 10, and the adsorption module 10 also includes a frame as a mechanism for supporting the stacked adsorption units 11. The adsorption module 10 is suitable for adsorption treatment in a room temperature environment and desorption treatment in a high temperature environment. Considering that the adsorption material can adsorb carbon dioxide or water at the same time, a plurality of adsorption modules 10 can also be used in conjunction with each other to promote the adsorption of water and carbon dioxide to increase the concentration of adsorbed carbon dioxide.

Figure 2 and Figure 3 A first embodiment of the present invention provides an adsorption unit 11 , which includes a frame 100 , a plurality of spacer tubes 200 and a plurality of adsorption particles 300 .
[0049] See also Figure 2 and Figure 3In this embodiment, the frame 100 has an air intake side 101 and an air exhaust side 102. The air intake side 101 and the air exhaust side 102 are opposite to each other and are open, and the rest of the frame 100 is closed. Specifically, the frame 100 has a pair of circulation plates 110 and a plurality of closing plates 120. The circulation plates 110 are provided with holes and are open. The pair of circulation plates 110 are respectively arranged on the air intake side 101 and the air exhaust side 102 so that the air intake side 101 and the air exhaust side 102 are open. The closing plates 120 surround the pair of circulation plates 110 and are connected between the pair of circulation plates 110 to close the rest of the frame 100.
[0050] Continue reading Figure 2 and Figure 3 In this embodiment, each spacer tube 200 is a straight tube made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, but the present invention is not limited thereto. A plurality of through holes 211 are respectively provided on the side of each spacer tube 200 to allow air circulation. The spacer tubes 200 are disposed in the frame 100, and the spacer tubes 200 are substantially parallel to each other and spaced apart. Specifically, the two ends of each spacer tube 200 are respectively connected to the frame 100 to fix the spacer tubes 200 to the frame 100.
[0051] Figure 4 FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the adsorption unit of the first embodiment of the present invention along the cross section of the air flow direction. Figure 3 and Figure 4 In this embodiment, each spacing tube 200 has two opening ends 212 arranged opposite to each other, and the two opening ends 212 of each spacing tube 200 are arranged corresponding to the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102. Each opening end 212 of each spacing tube 200 is connected to each flow plate 110 and communicates with the outside of the frame 100. A first space 201 is formed between the frame 100 and the spacing tubes 200, and a second space 202 is formed inside each spacing tube 200.
[0052] See also Figure 3 and Figure 4 The adsorption particles 300 are granular adsorption materials, and the adsorption materials are molecular sieves. The particle size of the adsorption particles 300 is designed to be larger than the aperture of the through hole 211. Therefore, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the frame 100, and are restricted by the spacer tubes 200 and fixed in the frame 100 so that they are located between the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102. In this embodiment, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the second space 202.
[0053] Figure 5 FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of the adsorption unit of the first embodiment of the present invention along the direction of air flow. Figure 5, air can enter the adsorption unit 11 from the environment through the air inlet side 101, and after passing through the adsorption unit 11, it can be discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102. The open end 212 is designed to confine the adsorption particles 300 in the spacing tube 200. When the ambient air passes through the adsorption unit 11, it can contact the adsorption particles 300 through each through hole 211, so that the carbon dioxide and water carried by it are adsorbed by the adsorption particles 300. After part of the carbon dioxide and water are removed in the adsorption unit 11, the air is discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102 and returns to the environment.
[0054] See also Figure 6 FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of an adsorption unit 11 according to a second embodiment of the present invention. [0055] See also Figure 2 In this embodiment, the structure of the frame 100 and the spacer tube 200 is the same as that of the first embodiment. That is, the frame 100 has an air intake side 101 and an air exhaust side 102, the air intake side 101 and the air exhaust side 102 are open, and the rest of the frame 100 is closed. Specifically, the frame 100 has a pair of circulation plates 110 and a plurality of closing plates 120, and the circulation plates 110 are provided with holes and are open. The pair of circulation plates 110 are respectively arranged on the air intake side 101 and the air exhaust side 102 so that the air intake side 101 and the air exhaust side 102 are open, and the closing plates 120 surround the pair of circulation plates 110 and are connected between the pair of circulation plates 110 to close the rest of the frame 100.
[0056] In this embodiment, each spacer tube 200 is a straight tube made of aluminum or aluminum alloy, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0057] In this embodiment, each spacing tube 200 has two opening ends 212 arranged opposite to each other, and the two opening ends 212 of each spacing tube 200 are respectively arranged corresponding to the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102. Each opening end 212 of each spacing tube 200 is respectively connected to each flow plate 110 and is respectively connected to the outside of the frame 100. A first space 201 is formed between the frame 100 and the spacing tubes 200, and a second space 202 is respectively formed inside each spacing tube 200.
[0058] See also Figure 6The adsorption particles 300 are granular adsorption materials, and the adsorption materials are molecular sieves. In this embodiment, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the first space 201, and the second space 202 forms a flow channel connecting the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102.
[0059] Therefore, air can enter the adsorption unit 11 from the environment through the air inlet side 101, and after passing through the flow channel, it can be discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102. When the ambient air passes through the flow channel, it can contact the adsorption particles 300 through the through holes 211, so that the carbon dioxide and water carried by it are adsorbed by the adsorption particles 300. After part of the carbon dioxide and water are removed in the flow channel, the air is discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102 and returns to the environment.
[0060] See also Figure 7 FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of an adsorption unit 11 according to a third embodiment of the present invention. The third embodiment of the present invention provides an adsorption unit 11 , which includes a frame 100 , a plurality of spacer tubes 200 a and a plurality of adsorption particles 300 .

[0062] In this embodiment, each spacing tube 200a is a cone tube made of aluminum or aluminum alloy, but the present invention is not limited thereto. A plurality of through holes 211a are respectively provided on the side of each spacing tube 200a to allow air circulation. The spacing tubes 200a are arranged in the frame 100, and the spacing tubes 200a are substantially parallel to each other and spaced apart. Specifically, the two ends of each spacing tube 200a are respectively connected to the frame 100 to fix the spacing tubes 200a to the frame 100.
[0063] In this embodiment, each spacing tube 200a has two opening ends 212a and 213a arranged opposite to each other, and the two opening ends 212a and 213a of each spacing tube 200a are arranged corresponding to the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102 respectively. The opening ends 212a and 213a of each spacing tube 200a are respectively connected to the flow plates 110 and are respectively connected to the outside of the frame 100. Each spacing tube 200a is a cone tube, and the narrower opening end 213a of each spacing tube 200a is arranged corresponding to the exhaust side 102. A first space 201 is formed between the frame 100 and the spacing tubes 200a, and a second space 202 is formed inside each spacing tube 200a.
[0064] The adsorption particles 300 are granular adsorption materials, and the adsorption materials are molecular sieves. The particle size of the adsorption particles 300 is designed to be larger than the aperture of the through hole 211a. Therefore, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the frame 100, and are restricted by the spacer tubes 200a and fixed in the frame 100 so that they are located between the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102. In this embodiment, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the second space 202.
[0065] Therefore, air can enter the adsorption unit 11 from the environment through the air inlet side 101, and after passing through the adsorption unit 11, it can be discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102. When the ambient air passes through the adsorption unit 11, it can contact the adsorption particles 300 through the through holes 211a, so that the carbon dioxide and water carried by it are adsorbed by the adsorption particles 300. After part of the carbon dioxide and water are removed in the adsorption unit 11, the air is discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102 and returns to the environment.

[0068] In this embodiment, each spacing tube 200a is a cone tube made of aluminum or aluminum alloy, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0069] In this embodiment, each spacing tube 200a has two opening ends 212a, 213a arranged opposite to each other, and the two opening ends 212a, 213a of each spacing tube 200a are arranged corresponding to the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102 respectively. The opening ends 212a, 213a of each spacing tube 200a are respectively connected to the flow plates 110 and are respectively connected to the outside of the frame 100.
[0070] The adsorption particles 300 are granular adsorption materials, and the adsorption materials are molecular sieves. In this embodiment, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the first space 201, and the second space 202 forms a flow channel connecting the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102.
[0071] Therefore, air can enter the adsorption unit 11 from the environment through the air inlet side 101, and after passing through the flow channel, it can be discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102. When the ambient air passes through the flow channel, it can contact the adsorption particles 300 through each through hole 211a, so that the carbon dioxide and water carried by it are adsorbed by the adsorption particles 300. Fig. 9 and Fig.10 As shown, the fifth embodiment of the present invention provides an adsorption unit 11, which includes a frame 100 and a plurality of spacer tubes 200b.
[0073] The frame 100 has an inlet side 101 and an outlet side 102 and a plurality of closing plates 120 . The inlet side 101 and the outlet side 102 are open. The closing plates 120 are arranged in a ring and connected between the inlet side 101 and the outlet side 102 to close the rest of the frame 100 .
[0074] In the present embodiment, each spacing tube 200b is made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, but the present invention is not limited thereto. Each spacing tube 200b spans across the intake side 101 and across the exhaust side 102. Specifically, the two ends of each spacing tube 200b are respectively connected to the frame 100 to fix the spacing tubes 200b to the frame 100. A first space 201 is formed between the frame 100 and the spacing tubes 200b, and a second space 202 is respectively formed within each spacing tube 200b.
[0075] Fig.11 FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view of an adsorption unit according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention along the direction of air flow. Fig.10 and Fig.11 As shown, the adsorption unit 11 of the present embodiment further includes a plurality of adsorption particles 300. The adsorption particles 300 are granular adsorption materials, the adsorption materials are molecular sieves, and the particle size of the adsorption particles 300 is designed to be larger than the aperture of the through hole 211b. Therefore, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the frame 100, and are restricted by the spacer tubes 200b and fixed in the frame 100 and located between the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102. In the present embodiment, the adsorption particles 300 are arranged in the second space 202, and the first spaces 201 form a flow channel connecting the intake side 101 and the exhaust side 102.
[0076] Therefore, air can enter the adsorption unit 11 from the environment through the air inlet side 101, and after passing through the flow channel, it can be discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102. When the ambient air passes through the flow channel, it can contact the adsorption particles 300 through each through hole 211b, so that the carbon dioxide and water carried by it are adsorbed by the adsorption particles 300. After part of the carbon dioxide and water are removed in the flow channel, the air is discharged from the adsorption unit 11 through the exhaust side 102 and returns to the environment.
[0077] The adsorption unit of the present invention has a frame and a flow direction of the airflow, and the adsorption unit also has a spacer tube arranged in the frame.
