Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a disc brake, in particular for a commercial vehicle, according to the preamble of claim 1.

[0002] To ensure the brakes function reliably, it is necessary to guide and secure the brake pads in the caliper or brake carrier. It must be taken into account that the brake pads are subjected to a variety of stresses.

[0003] In addition to high thermal stress resulting from the frictional heat generated during braking, the brake pad is also subject to high mechanical stress.

[0004] This results in different types of load for the two operating positions, namely the functional position in which the brake pad rubs against the brake disc, and the non-functional position in which the brake pad is out of engagement.

[0005] In its functional position, the brake pad is subjected to high pressure and lateral forces, whereby the lateral forces generated on the friction surface are transferred via the friction lining into the carrier plate and from there into the brake caliper or brake carrier.

[0006] Furthermore, for effective braking, the generated clamping force must be converted into a compressive force evenly distributed across the friction surface of the friction lining. To ensure this, the generated clamping force must be converted into a surface load by means of the rigid support plate. This necessitates appropriate thickness dimensioning of the support plate.

[0007] Especially during driving, the brake pad can be subjected to very high vibration stress when not in use. To secure the brake pad, it is known to use so-called pad retaining springs, which press the brake pad against a guide or holder.

[0008] However, the spring force cannot be chosen to be arbitrarily high, as this would impair the brake pad's ability to move freely. Therefore, under high vibration loads, the brake pads can "jump" and produce rattling noises.

[0009] From DE 79 01 527 U1 a disc brake is known in which the brake pads are each attached to a pressure plate, wherein an actuating element of a clamping device is guided through the pressure plate of the clamping-side brake pad and rests against the carrier plate of the brake pad.

[0010] DE 1 971 290 U shows and describes a pressure plate on which two brake pads are removably held.

[0011] US Patent 4,333,550 A discloses a hydraulically actuated disc brake in which a piston rests against a pressure plate to which a brake pad is attached. FR 2,598,762 A1 also discloses a brake pad attached to a pressure plate.

[0012] DE 697 25 461 T2 describes a disc brake in which a carrier plate is attached to a pressure plate which is connected to adjusting spindles by means of screws, wherein the fastening of the carrier plate is arranged outside the screw connection.

[0013] US Patent 4,775,036 A shows and describes a brake pad held against a pressure plate, wherein angled retaining tabs of a carrier plate engage in recesses on the edges of the pressure plate. A spring plate attached to the pressure plate holds the brake pad, together with the pressure plate, in a guide of the brake caliper or brake carrier.

[0014] Finally, a disc brake is known from DE 102 19 148 C1 in which a carrier plate of the brake pad is attached to adjusting spindles.

[0015] The present invention is based on the objective of further developing a disc brake of the generic type in such a way that functionality and operational safety are improved using structurally simple means.

[0016] This problem is solved by a disc brake having the features of claim 1.

[0017] This constructive design results in a whole range of advantages compared to the state of the art.

[0018] This eliminates the need for brake pad retaining springs and their associated retaining clips. The brake pad is radially rigidly secured, preventing the rattling noises caused by operational vibrations from occurring in the first place.

[0019] According to the invention, the pressure plate is guided in the brake caliper or brake carrier in a form-fitting manner. The brake pad, i.e., the backing plate, also rests in a form-fitting manner against the pressure plate, thus forming a virtually unified structure with respect to the load, resulting in significant stiffening.

[0020] The lateral forces acting on the brake pad during braking are effectively transferred to the brake caliper or brake carrier by means of the positive locking between the pressure plate and the carrier plate.

[0021] Naturally, this results in a reduction of the load on functionally relevant parts, which leads to an overall improvement in the operational safety of the brake.

[0022] This is also aided by the fact that the clamping forces of the brake caliper are optimally distributed in the brake pad.

[0023] The stiffening provided by the pressure plate allows for a significant reduction in the thickness of the backing plate, resulting in considerable cost savings. This is primarily because the brake pad and backing plate are replaced as wear parts, while the pressure plate remains as a permanent component.

[0024] For easy installation and removal of the brake pad, a simple connection to the pressure plate is conceivable.

[0025] For this purpose, the carrier plate can be attached to the pressure plate using appropriate fasteners, such as screws, hooks or the like.

[0026] Since the transverse forces that occur are absorbed by the aforementioned positive locking between the support plate and the pressure plate, and since, on the other hand, only small mass forces are effective in the axial direction when the brake is not actuated, the connecting elements, such as the screws or clamps mentioned, can be relatively weakly dimensioned.

[0027] Further advantageous embodiments of the invention are characterized in the dependent claims.

[0028] Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0029] They show: Fig. 1 a partial section of a disc brake according to the invention in a cutaway side view Fig. 2 the partial section in a sectional top view Fig. 3 Another embodiment of the invention, also shown as a partial section in a cutaway side view Fig. 4 the exemplary embodiment according to Fig. 3 in a top view Fig. 5 a partial section of a further embodiment of the invention in a side view

[0030] In the Fig. 1 and Fig. Figure 2 shows a part of a disc brake, in particular for a commercial vehicle, with a brake caliper 1 attached to a brake carrier (not shown), in which at least one clamping device (also not shown) is arranged, with which a brake pad 2 can be pressed against a brake disc 6 during braking.

[0031] This brake pad 2 consists of a carrier plate 4 and a friction lining 5 attached to it.

[0032] According to the invention, the brake pad 2 is attached to a separate pressure plate 3 radially secured in the brake caliper 1 or the brake carrier. In the present embodiment, this pressure plate is connected to two adjusting spindles 18 of the brake caliper 1, which are arranged parallel and spaced apart from each other.

[0033] On its side facing the brake pad 2, the pressure plate 3 has recesses 8 in which projections 7 of the carrier plate 4 are inserted in such a way that a positive fit exists in the radial and tangential direction, by which transverse forces occurring during braking are absorbed by the pressure plate 3.

[0034] The brake pad 2 is detachably connected to the pressure plate 3, for which the carrier plate 4, according to the Fig. 1, at its lower end is connected to the pressure plate 3 via a hook connection 9, while opposite, on the carrier plate 4, an integrally formed clamp 10 overlaps the pressure plate 3 at its edge and is fastened to the pressure plate 3 by means of a screw 11. Naturally, a multitude of clamps 10 and associated screws 11 can be provided, which are then distributed over the edge of the pressure plate 3.

[0035] Another embodiment of the attachment of the brake pad to the pressure plate 3 is shown in the Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 shown. In the upper mounting area, the carrier plate 4 has two parallel hooks 13 arranged at a distance from each other for each connection with the pressure plate 3, between which a lug 12 of the pressure plate 3 is placed, through which a screw or bolt 14 is guided, which on the other hand is engaged behind by the hooks 13 in such a way that the carrier plate 4, i.e. the brake pad 2, is firmly connected to the pressure plate 3.

[0036] Another way of attaching the brake pad 2 to the pressure plate 3 is described in the Fig. 5 shown. Here the carrier plate has 4 tabs 15 which lie against tabs 16 of the pressure plate 3 and are connected to each other by a screw 17.

[0037] In any case, the brake pad 2 is detachably connected to the pressure plate 3, so that the pressure plate 3 can be regarded as an integral part of the brake caliper 1 or the brake carrier, while the brake pad 2 can be easily replaced as a wear part.
