Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a drain fitting for sanitary bathtubs, with a pot-shaped housing and a lid arranged on the housing, wherein an inlet gap for wastewater is formed between the lid and the housing, and the wastewater is led into the housing from the inlet flange into an inlet channel downwards to a lower deflection, an upflow channel, to an upper deflection and a drain pipe.
[0002] In WO 2018 / 208257 A2, a drainage arrangement is shown in which a pot-shaped housing is fixed to the drain of a sanitary basin. A lid with protruding ribs is inserted into the housing, so that incoming water is first guided over a lower deflector and then directed into an upward-facing pipe stub. From this pipe stub, the wastewater is conveyed to a drain outlet connected to the housing. The wastewater flows along constant flow cross-sections and steps where the cross-section and flow direction change abruptly. This results in high flow losses, leading to low drainage capacity.
[0003] For such drainage systems, hair strainers are known, formed by ribs integrated into the lid. However, these hair strainers have only a limited filtration effect and are usually only suitable for filtering long hair. In a household without residents with long hair, such a lid unnecessarily reduces the drainage capacity of the system.
[0004] The object of the present invention is therefore to create a drain fitting for a sanitary bathtub which has an optimized drainage performance at a low installation height.
[0005] This problem is solved with a drain assembly having the features of claim 1.
[0006] The drain assembly according to the invention comprises a pot-shaped housing and a lid arranged on the housing, wherein an inlet slot for wastewater is formed between the lid and the housing. Within the housing, the wastewater is guided from the inlet slot to an inlet channel, downwards to a lower deflection, an upflow channel, an upper deflection, and a drain pipe, so that the drain assembly can form a water seal by means of standing water when no wastewater is flowing through it. According to the invention, a hair strainer protruding into the inlet slot is detachably fixed to the lid. This allows the user to decide whether to use the drain assembly with the hair strainer to collect long hair or without it to increase drainage capacity. The hair strainer can be removed from the lid if necessary, so that the lid can be mounted on the housing without the hair strainer.Furthermore, the hair strainer can be easily replaced if it becomes damaged.
[0007] Preferably, the hair strainer has an annular body, in particular an annular disc, from which a plurality of ribs protrude on one underside. These ribs filter the wastewater with regard to coarse impurities, especially long hair. Optionally, several feet can be provided on the lid for support, each foot engaging a recess in the annular body of the hair strainer. This allows the hair strainer to be mounted on the lid in a compact design. For effective mounting, each foot can be provided with a locking projection or receptacle that interacts with a locking element on the hair strainer to form a releasable snap connection. This allows the hair strainer to be placed onto the lid and locked into place.
[0008] In another embodiment, the lid is circular in plan view, and the ribs of the hair strainer extend radially. The ribs are thus designed as radial wall sections, which keeps the flow resistance low.
[0009] The drain pipe preferably includes a pipe bend in which the cross-section continuously narrows. This narrowing of the cross-section at the pipe bend increases the flow velocity of the wastewater during drainage, thereby enhancing the suction effect and resulting in high drainage capacity. The narrowing of the cross-section does not occur abruptly in a step, but rather along slopes or curves to minimize flow losses of the wastewater due to turbulence. Preferably, the pipe bend has a horizontal cross-section at its beginning, at the upper bend, that is at least 5% larger than a vertical cross-section at one end of the pipe bend. The pipe bend is thus bent at approximately 90° from the upper bend. The cross-section can decrease from the upper bend to the end of the pipe bend by, for example, between 8% and 20%. Optionally, the pipe bend is formed wholly or partially integrally with the housing. The pipe bend can optionally be formed in one piece or it can be composed of several parts. The taper of the pipe bend is preferably asymmetrical, and the pipe bend can, for example, be bent essentially along a quarter circle on an outer curve, while an inner curve is essentially parabolic.
[0010] The pipe bend preferably has a horizontal cross-section in the shape of a D with three straight walls and an arc-shaped section for connecting two walls at the upper deflection. The arc-shaped section is preferably located on the outside of the pipe bend, and the middle straight wall section on an inner side. Furthermore, the pipe bend can also have a vertical cross-section in the shape of a D with three straight walls and an arc-shaped section for connecting two walls at one end. The arc-shaped section is preferably located at an outer curve of the pipe bend. The distance between the arc-shaped section and the opposite straight wall can decrease, for example, by at least 10% from the beginning of the pipe stub at the upper deflection to the end of the pipe stub, while the distance between the other two walls remains constant. At the end of the pipe bend, it has a height of, for example, only 28 mm to 32 mm, so that the overall height of the pot-shaped housing can be kept low, for example in a range between 50 mm and 56 mm. At the inlet of the pipe bend, the distance between the curved section and the opposite straight wall, measured horizontally, can be between 34 mm and 40 mm.
[0011] In a preferred embodiment, the inlet channel is essentially annular. The inlet channel need not form a complete ring, as it is interrupted in the area of the outlet pipe. Furthermore, screw channels can be provided on the housing, allowing the cross-section of the essentially annular inlet channel to vary. The inlet channel tapers in the direction of flow, i.e., from top to bottom, thus achieving a slight increase in the flow velocity of the wastewater within the inlet channel itself.
[0012] Preferably, the upflow channel is essentially ring-shaped and tapers in the direction of flow, i.e., from bottom to top, thus further increasing the flow velocity. A partition between the inlet channel and the upflow channel can be formed by a side wall of a hood-shaped insert.
[0013] Preferably, a transition section is arranged downstream of the bend in the drain pipe, the rear end of which has a cylindrical cross-section. This allows the D-shaped cross-section of the bend to transition into a cylindrical cross-section, which preferably has a slightly larger cross-section than the end of the pipe stub. Downstream of the transition section, the drain pipe can include a stepped pipe stub, the rear cylindrical section of which has a larger diameter than a front cylindrical section, with a lower wall of the front cylindrical section aligned with a lower wall of the rear cylindrical section. The step between the front and rear cylindrical sections is thus located in the upper region, which is optimized for flow efficiency.Furthermore, this stepped section allows the drain pipe to be connected to another pipe with a larger or smaller diameter, for example, by cutting off the rear section with the larger diameter. For this purpose, radially projecting stops can be formed on the outside of both the rear and front cylindrical sections to facilitate connection to another pipe.
[0014] For optimized flow, the upper deflection can have a rounded overflow edge with a radius greater than 2 mm, particularly between 2.5 mm and 7 mm. This reduces turbulence in the wastewater as it flows around the upper deflection. The rounded overflow edge can be double-walled in the shape of an inverted U. This allows the pipe bend to be at least partially integral with one wall of the upflow channel.
[0015] A bead-shaped lower edge is preferably provided at the lower deflection point, having a thickness in the horizontal direction of between 3 mm and 8 mm. The center point of the bead-shaped lower edge need not be located in the center of the cross-section; preferably, the bead-shaped lower edge projects radially outwards.
[0016] For the production of the drain assembly with few parts, a hood-shaped insert is detachably fixed in the housing in a further embodiment of the invention, which is independent of the design of the hair strainer on the lid. The hood-shaped insert can be snapped or clamped to the pot-shaped housing. A side wall of the hood-shaped insert preferably forms the partition between the inlet channel and the upflow channel, the partition being slightly inclined relative to the vertical so that the inlet channel and the upflow channel each taper slightly in the direction of flow. The hood-shaped insert preferably has a recess in one side wall through which one end of the pipe bend passes. A seal made of an elastic material, preferably with an elastic sealing lip, is arranged at one edge of the recess. The seal can rest against an inner wall of the pipe bend, corresponding to the bend's curvature, thus forming a vertical sealing surface. This allows the insert to be easily removed for cleaning the drain assembly and ensures a reliable seal. On the side opposite the seal, the hood-shaped insert can have a rib that rests against a wall of the upflow channel. Optionally, locking mechanisms can be provided on the rib to ensure precise positioning of the hood-shaped insert.
[0017] The wall of the hood-shaped insert is preferably flush with an inner wall of the pipe bend. The inner wall of the pipe bend can be straight and is aligned with the wall of the hood-shaped insert, so that no wastewater flows into the pipe bend in the area of the straight wall. In plan view, the pipe bend is thus supplied with wastewater from three sides via the overflow edge on one inlet side, while the straight wall is provided on the fourth side.
[0018] For easy installation, a clamping ring can be mounted on the drain fitting housing, which is fixed to the housing with several screws. One of the screws can be positioned above one end of the pipe bend, thus minimizing the space required for fixing the clamping ring and its fasteners, and optionally utilizing the space above the pipe bend.
[0019] The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to an exemplary embodiment and the accompanying drawings. These show: Fig. 1A to 1D several views of the drain assembly according to the invention; Fig. 2A and Fig. 2B two views of the drain fitting of the Fig. 1 without lid; Fig. 3A to 3D multiple views of the drain assembly Fig. 1 without lid and without hood-shaped insert; Fig. 4A to 4C several views of the hood-shaped insert, and Fig. 5A to 5D several views of the cover of the drain fitting of the Fig. 1.
[0020] A drain fitting 1 for sanitary basins comprises a pot-shaped housing 2 with a lid 3 on its upper surface. An annular inlet gap 4 is provided between the lid 3 and the housing 2, into which wastewater from a sanitary basin, such as a shower tray or bathtub, can flow. A protruding drain pipe 10 is connected to the pot-shaped housing 2 and terminates inside the housing 2 with a pipe bend 11. The end of the drain pipe 10 can be connected to a drain line.
[0021] In the sectional views of the Fig. 1B and Fig. Figure 1C shows the flow path of the wastewater. Through the inlet gap 4, the wastewater initially flows into an inlet channel 5, which extends downwards and tapers slightly in the direction of flow. There, the wastewater flows around a lower deflection 6. At the lower deflection 6, the flow passes over a lower edge 60 of a hood-shaped insert 20, which is bead-shaped with the bead projecting outwards in a horizontal direction. The bead-shaped lower edge 60 prevents the wastewater from being deflected too sharply at the deflection 6.
[0022] From the lower deflection 6, the wastewater flows into an upflow channel 7, which is located between a side wall of the hood-shaped insert 20 and a wall 15 integrally formed with the housing 2 and extending upwards. A locking projection 16 is formed on the wall 15, against which a rib 21 of the hood-shaped insert can be locked. The side wall of the hood-shaped insert 20 is arranged to spread slightly upwards from top to bottom, i.e., inclined to the vertical direction, so that the inlet channel 5 and the upflow channel 7 each taper slightly in the direction of flow.
[0023] At the end of the upflow channel 7, the wastewater flows to an upper deflection 8, with a rounded overflow edge 9 arranged on the underside of the upper deflection 8. This overflow edge is double-walled and designed in the shape of an inverted U. The rounded overflow edge has, for example, a radius between 2.5 mm and 7 mm.
[0024] From the upper deflection 8, the wastewater flows into a pipe bend 11 of the drain pipe 10. The pipe bend 11 is angled at approximately 90° and includes an upper horizontal cross-section 11a adjacent to the deflection 8, which is larger than a cross-section at one end 11b of the pipe bend 11, for example, by between 5% and 20%. The narrowing of the cross-section at the pipe bend 11 increases the flow velocity of the wastewater as it flows out, thus increasing the suction effect and consequently the drainage capacity. The pipe bend 11 includes a wall 17 located on the outer curve, spaced apart from the wall 15 of the upflow channel 7, and integrally connected to it via a curved U-shaped section.
[0025] A transition section 12, with an axial length of 10 mm to 30 mm, adjoins the pipe bend 11. At the end of the transition section 12, a cylindrical cross-section is present, to which a front cylindrical section 13 is connected. This front cylindrical section has a smaller diameter than a rear cylindrical section 14, which has a larger diameter. The lower wall of the front cylindrical section 13 is aligned with the lower wall of the rear cylindrical section 14, so that only in the upper region is there a stepped offset between the front cylindrical section 13 and the rear cylindrical section 14. This stepped design has the advantage that the installer can optionally connect the rear cylindrical section 14 to a pipe that can be pushed onto a radially projecting stop 18.If a pipe with a smaller diameter is to be connected to the drain pipe 10, the fitter can cut off the drain pipe 10 in the area of the front cylindrical section 13 and can then place a pipe onto the front cylindrical section 13 up to a radially protruding stop 19.
[0026] For mounting the drain assembly 1 on a drain of a sanitary bathtub, the housing 2 has a radially outwardly projecting flange 25 in which a sealing ring 26 is inserted. Above the sealing ring 26, a clamping ring 27 is provided, which can be clamped downwards to the sealing ring 26 by means of several screws 28, so that an edge of the drain opening can be inserted between the sealing ring 26 and the clamping ring 27 and sealed.
[0027] In the Fig. 2A and Fig. Figure 2B shows the pot-shaped housing 2 without the lid 3. The hood-shaped insert 20 is inserted into an upwardly open recess of the pot-shaped housing 2, its side wall forming the partition between the inlet channel 5 and the inflow channel 7. The inlet channel 5 and the inflow channel 7 are essentially annular, but not a closed ring, as they are pierced by the drain pipe 10, which passes through the side wall of the hood-shaped insert 20. A seal 23 made of an elastic material is provided on the hood-shaped insert 20, sealing against a wall of the pipe bend 11. Screw channels 29 for screws 28 are also provided in the area of the inlet channel 5. At least one screw 28 is positioned above the end of the pipe bend 11 to optimally utilize the space required for fixing the clamping ring 27.The screw 28 above the pipe bend 11 is shorter than the other screws 28 which are inserted into the screw channel 29 on an outer circumference of the housing 2.
[0028] In the Fig. Figures 3A to 3D show the housing 2 without the hood-shaped insert 20. It can be seen that the pipe bend 11 adjacent to the rounded overflow edge 9 has a D-shaped cross-section, with three straight walls oriented essentially at right angles to each other and the two free ends of straight walls connected by an arc-shaped section. On the side opposite the arc-shaped section, an insert 30 is arranged, which is manufactured separately and forms a wall of the pipe bend 11. The insert 30 is fixed to the pipe bend 11 by a snap-fit connection, but can optionally also be manufactured as a single piece with it. This inner wall, relative to the curvature of the pipe bend 11, is positioned at a greater distance from the arc-shaped section in a horizontal cross-section adjacent to the overflow edge 9 than in a vertical section at the end of the pipe bend 11.This results in a continuous reduction of the cross-section along the pipe bend 11, with the cross-section being reduced, for example, by between 8% and 20%, and in particular by between 10% and 15%. This correspondingly increases the flow velocity of the wastewater. The D-shaped cross-section at the pipe bend 11 then changes to a cylindrical section in the transition section, to which the front cylindrical section 13 is connected. The pipe bend 11 is at least partially integral with the housing 2, so that the drain assembly 1 can be manufactured with only a few components.
[0029] The Fig. Figures 4A to 4C show the hood-shaped insert 20, which is essentially cup-shaped, with an essentially rectangular recess 24 formed in its side wall. An edge of the recess 24 is surrounded by a seal 23 made of an elastic material. The seal 23 can be inserted into the cup-shaped housing 2 from above and forms a vertical sealing plane, with a sealing lip of the seal 23 bearing against an inner wall of the pipe bend 11. The upper edge of the recess 24 is flush with an inner side of the pipe bend 11, i.e., with the insert 30, as shown in Fig. 1C is shown. The hood-shaped insert 20 can be removed for cleaning the drain fitting 1.
[0030] The hood-shaped insert 20 has a radially inwardly projecting rib 21 on the side opposite the recess 24, which ensures exact positioning within the housing 2 and can be locked onto the detent projection 16.
[0031] In the Fig. Figures 5A to 5D show the lid 3, which is formed in several parts and includes an annular hair strainer 40 with several downwardly projecting ribs 41 on which coarser impurities can accumulate. The ribs 41 and recesses 43 are formed on a ring 42 of the annular hair strainer 40, through which feet 39 of the lid 3 pass. The ring 42 is preferably snapped or clamped to the lid 3 and can be removed from the lid 3 for cleaning. Feet 39 are provided around the circumference of the lid 3, as well as positioning ribs 38 that engage corresponding slots 44 in the ring 42.
[0032] In the illustrated embodiment, the cross-section is D-shaped along the entire length of the pipe bend 11. It is also possible to choose a different cross-sectional shape for the pipe bend 11 or to change the cross-sectional shape along its length. Furthermore, the illustrated cross-sectional shape can be modified, for example, by rounding or truncating the corners.
[0033] The pot-shaped housing 2 is cylindrical in plan view, apart from the protruding part of the drain pipe 10. It is also possible to design the housing as oval or more cuboid in plan view.
