Abstract

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to an alcohol-free, plant oil-based oral spray for use in the oral cavity, in particular for neutralizing bad breath and for the supportive care of the mucous membranes, tongue, and interdental spaces. The invention represents a novel solution in the field of mobile oral hygiene, in which natural, lipid-based active ingredients, in particular coconut oil or derivatives thereof, are presented in the form of a finely mistable spray in a handy package.

[0002] Various mouth sprays based on alcohol, menthol, and synthetic flavorings are known in the art and are intended to provide short-term breath freshening. However, these products usually lack moisturizing properties, often irritate or dry out the mucous membranes, and are only suitable for limited, frequent use. Furthermore, their functionality is essentially limited to masking odors. A combination of moisturizing, odor-neutralizing, and antimicrobial solutions based on natural, oil-free ingredients is not yet available on the market.

[0003] The invention therefore aims to provide an alcohol-free, well-tolerated, and effectively odor-binding mouth spray that is suitable for daily use and has a lasting effect on the oral flora. Furthermore, the spray should be portable, easy to dose, and visually appealing to meet the needs of a modern target group.

[0004] To solve this problem, an oral care spray is proposed, comprising a finely dispersed, preferably anhydrous or low-water, lipid-based liquid. The base of the solution is coconut oil, fractionated coconut oil (MCT), caprylic / capric triglyceride, or a comparable plant-based lipid, which serves as a carrier for functional active ingredients. The formulation contains at least one substance from the cyclodextrin group for odor control, zinc salts for neutralizing volatile sulfur compounds, xylitol for caries prophylaxis, and essential oils such as peppermint or eucalyptus oil to create a pleasant freshness effect. Optionally, the formulation may include further plant extracts such as sage, green tea, or chamomile, flavoring agents, or bioactive components for remineralization and mucosal care.

[0005] The spray is supplied in a portable, preferably reusable container with a spray nozzle that allows for fine atomization of the oil-based solution in the oral cavity. The packaging can be an airless pump bottle, a glass bottle with a pump dispenser, or a pen with mechanical atomization. Dosage is achieved in the form of single sprays, typically one to three pumps per application. The oil-based solution remains in the mouth after use and is not rinsed out. The physicochemical action of the active ingredients neutralizes odors by trapping or binding odor-causing molecules and also provides an antibacterial effect on odor-producing bacteria. Additionally, the carrier oil has a soothing and mildly protective effect on the oral mucosa.

[0006] The oral spray according to the invention is characterized in particular by being alcohol-free, lipid-based, and containing functional active ingredients that do not merely mask odors but physically neutralize them. The combination of cyclodextrins for molecular encapsulation, zinc compounds for the chemical neutralization of volatile sulfur compounds, xylitol for microbial inhibition, and coconut oil for a protective, nourishing film effect represents a novel, synergistically effective system for oral freshening. Unlike known alcohol- or menthol-based oral sprays, this solution allows for daily and repeated use without mucosal irritation, dryness, or sensory overstimulation. Furthermore, its technical implementation in a portable fine-spray dispenser with a refillable option enables flexible integration into existing oral hygiene routines.This opens up a new category of orally applicable care products that naturally combines odor-neutralizing, nourishing and antibacterial effects in one product.

[0007] The invention is particularly suitable for everyday use, for smokers, after consuming strongly scented foods or drinks, in social or professional contexts, and while traveling. It can be offered as a standalone product or as part of a set with complementary oral care products such as cleaning pads or polishing sticks.

Claims

[1] Oral spray for use in the oral cavity for neutralizing odors and simultaneously caring for mucous membranes, comprising a liquid based on a vegetable lipid, in particular coconut oil or triglycerides derived therefrom, and at least one further active ingredient selected from the group consisting of cyclodextrins, zinc compounds, xylitol, essential oils and vegetable extracts, wherein the liquid is alcohol-free and is supplied in a spray container for fine misting in the oral cavity. [2] Mouth spray according to claim 1, characterized by that the plant lipid is fractionated coconut oil, MCT oil, or a caprylic / capric triglyceride. [3] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the contained cyclodextrins are suitable for physical odor binding by encapsulating volatile molecules. [4] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized bythat the zinc compounds exist as zinc citrate, zinc gluconate or zinc PCA and are used for the chemical neutralization of sulfur compounds. [5] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the formulation contains xylitol to inhibit bacterial growth in the mouth and promote saliva production. [6] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the formulation contains fractionated coconut oil or coconut oil derivatives as its main ingredient and additionally includes at least one essential oil selected from peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, lemon oil or ginger oil. [7] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the formulation includes one or more plant extracts selected from sage, green tea, chamomile or myrrh. [13] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the product is free from ethanol, synthetic dyes, synthetic preservatives and artificial sweeteners. [15] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the product is offered as part of a care set, which additionally includes at least one tooth cleaning pad or tooth polishing stick. [17] Mouth spray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by that the product is designed to be color-coded or haptically distinguishable in order to make different variants visually recognizable.
