Environmentally friendly polylactide-based composite formulations

Polymeric materials and products, including sheet flooring materials prepared from the polymeric materials, and processes for preparing the polymeric materials, are disclosed. The polymeric materials include a polylactic acid-based polymer in combination with plasticizer and a compatibilizer, and optionally include a filler. The polymeric material can include between about 30 to about 50 percent by weight polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene glycol, polyglycolide, ethylene vinyl acetate, polycarbonate, polycaprolactone, polyhydroxyalkanoates, or polyolefins modified with polar groups, for example, ionomers. The plasticizer is typically an epoxidized vegetable oil or esterified and epoxidized vegetable oil and is typically present in an amount of between about 10 and about 50% by weight. In some embodiments, the compatibilizer is a polyolefin modified with one or more polar functional groups, and is typically present in an amount of between about 5 and about 10% by weight. The material can be used in decorative surface coverings, such as a floor coverings, particularly when it is in the form of a polymeric sheet. The polymeric material can be present in at least one layer of a floor covering, which floor covering can also include one or more additional layers such as wear layers, foamed or foamable layers, top coat layers and design layers. The additional layers can also include the polymeric material.

Aldehyde and alcohol compositions derived from seed oils

An aldehyde composition derived by hydroformylation of a transesterified seed oil and containing a mixture of formyl-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters having the following composition by weight: greater than about 10 to less than about 95 percent monoformyl, greater than about 1 to less than about 65 percent diformyl, and greater than about 0.1 to less than about 10 percent triformyl-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters, and having a diformyl to triformyl weight ratio of greater than about 5/1; preferably, greater than about 3 to less than about 20 percent saturates; and preferably, greater than about 1 to less than about 20 percent unsaturates. An alcohol composition derived by hydrogenation of the aforementioned aldehyde composition, containing a mixture of hydroxymethyl-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters having the following composition by weight: greater than about 10 to less than about 95 percent monoalcohol {mono(hydroxymethyl)}, greater than about 1 to less than about 65 percent diol {di(hydroxymethyl)}, greater than about 0.1 to less than about 10 percent triol, tri(hydroxmethyl)-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters; preferably greater than about 3 to less than about 35 percent saturates; and preferably, less than about 10 percent unsaturates. The alcohol composition can be converted into an oligomeric polyol for use in the manufacture of polyurethane slab stock flexible foams.

Catalyzer for oxalic ester hydrogenation synthesizing of glycolate and method of preparing the same

A catalyst for hydrogenated synthesis of glycollate with oxalate and a preparation method for the catalyst belong to the glycollate preparation technical field. The catalyst of the present invention uses the copper metal as the main active component, and silver as the promoter, and is manufactured with the method of immersion. A carrier of the catalyst is the modified silica sol. The select content of the copper metal is 5 to 45 percent of the carrier weight, and the optimal content of the copper metal is 10 to 40 percent. The content of silver metal is 0.1 to 15 percent of the carrier weight, and the optimal content of silver metal is 1 to 8.0 percent. The select carrier is the silica sol with a double peak pore distribution structure and the specific surface area of the carrier is 100-300m2/g; and the optimal specific surface area of the carrier is 120-240m2/g. The present invention settles the problem of applying a Cr/Cu catalyst in the oxalate gas-phase catalytic hydrogenation. Proven by experiments, the catalyst is provided with the very high reaction activity and glycollate selectivity in the reaction to synthesize glycollate with oxalate and hydrogen Moreover, the catalyst is provided with the long usable life and the stable reaction performance, and can be easily controlled.
