Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a mechanical retention system for corks of bottles, in particular for sparkling wines such as sparkling wine or champagne, where high internal pressure during opening can cause risks of injury (e.g. eye injuries) as well as environmental damage from uncontrolled flying corks.
[0002] The basic idea is to secure the cork using an integrated wire at the top. This wire is threaded horizontally through the cork, with the ends of the wire pointing downwards on the right and left. The wires are connected by a ring or a narrow metal band that sits on the neck of the bottle.
[0003] The ring is designed so that it cannot slip over the rim of the bottle, but is slightly movable so as not to impair the function of the wire cage. The ring therefore sits below the rim and is not affected by the wire cage when closing the bottle.
[0004] The wire ends are dimensioned to provide strain relief, allowing the cork to protrude only 5-10 mm from the bottle after the wire cage is removed. The cork then remains mechanically held in place and can be safely removed by tilting or pulling it to the side.

Claims
[1] Cork retention system for bottles containing carbonated beverages, especially bottles of sparkling wine, champagne or sparkling wine, characterized by , that a wire (1) is passed through the upper part of the cork, both ends of which are led outwards and downwards and are connected to a ring or band (2) which rests against the neck of the bottle.
