Description
Technical area
[0001] The invention relates to a device for printing or labeling containers. Technical background
[0002] Containers of different geometries and shapes are transported through the individual parts of filling and packaging plants, where they are filled, sealed, labelled, inspected, ejected, grouped and packaged.
[0003] The containers can, for example, have the following basic shapes: cylindrical, oval, rectangular, square, or irregularly shaped. Furthermore, the centers of the container base and mouth may be offset from the central axis (rotation axis) of the container. This can result in the central axis being vertical but shifted, or in the central axis being tilted. Furthermore, the containers can sometimes have very large tolerances regarding shape and position.
[0004] For certain process steps involving treatments on the container surface, it is advantageous if the treatment distance and the relative speed are as constant as possible along the entire treatment path.
[0005] For example, when printing on containers, large and varying print distances lead to reduced print quality due to drop misplacement. DE 10 2011 086 015 A1 describes a possibility for correcting different print distances by controlling the ejection times of the drops from the print head. DE 10 2013 217 669 A1 describes how the print distance can be compensated for while maintaining a constant print speed within defined tolerance limits on a linear machine or a rotary machine. It is conceivable that non-constant print speeds (relative speed between the container surface and the print head) can be corrected using a theoretically known turntable curve in the control of the ejection times of the drops from the print head. A container surface that is not parallel to the print head orPerpendicular to the droplet trajectory can be taken into account in such a way that the ejection times of the droplets from the print head are corrected because the nozzles are distributed across multiple rows. Conventionally, container tolerances that change the printing distance are not determined and corrected. With a larger printing distance, more overspray is created because not all droplets reach the container surface due to their long trajectory. This overspray can be extracted to prevent contamination of the machine components and the print head.
[0006] Similar problems can arise when labeling containers. In DE 10 2015 212 140 A1, a glue pattern is applied to a label using a glue printer. The print result can be positively influenced by passing the label at a constant speed and distance.
[0007] Different successive process steps, which may depend on the container material or format, among other things, often require different movements or differ in process times. This traditionally results in the longest process determining the entire workflow and thus the output. Direct printing is an example of this.
[0008] When applying a print image to a container, pinning can be done between the applications of the individual colors. Through pinning, also called intermediate curing, the color gradient is controlled by varying the time between ink application and the intensity of the UV radiation. The time depends on the speed of the carousel, which in turn is determined by the container geometry. Strongly curved containers require a larger compensating movement of the container in front of the print head in order to minimize the printing distance. At the same time, however, the carousel speed must also be reduced in order not to exceed the maximum, as constant as possible, printing speed = surface speed of the outer surface to be printed on the container. Due to the different carousel speeds for different container shapes, different times arise from printing to pinning. Other factors that influence the time period can include:The container material, the condition of any additionally pretreated container surface, and the printing ink can be important factors. Regarding the printing ink, each color can behave differently. For example, white is usually, but not exclusively, applied first as a "primer" to the container material, and the other colors are printed wet-on-wet. Regarding ink application and opacity, it should be noted that white traditionally has to be applied twice on two consecutive units to achieve sufficient coverage. The position of the pinning lamp can be adjusted to correct the time delay.
[0009] US 2018 / 186494 A1 discloses an apparatus and a method for preparing labels for application to containers, wherein glue is applied in a variable glue pattern directly onto a glue application surface of at least one label by means of a controllable glue printer.
[0010] US 2017 / 225814 A1 discloses a device for transporting a container relative to a filling station. The device comprises at least one filling station for filling at least one container and at least one container receptacle for transporting the container relative to the filling station. At least one drive surface and at least one mover, which can be coupled to the drive surface, in particular magnetically, are provided. The mover is arranged on the drive surface so that it can be displaced and / or rotated in at least two degrees of freedom, and the container receptacle is connected to the mover.
[0011] A disadvantage of the prior art can be that different treatment distances and speeds on the container surface within the area to be treated can lead to poor results because they cannot be compensated for due to kinematic limitations. When printing on containers, a compromise must be found between the following factors: print distance (container tolerances also increase the print distance), print image length, print quality, print speed => machine performance, shape of the container. When printing on containers, complex correction processes are necessary. With large print distances, more print mist is created. Additional effort is required for extracting and filtering the particles. In addition, ink is lost in the waste. A double printing technique is required for the ink white. With changing print images starting from batch size 1, the process cannot be optimally adapted to each print image because the time between pinning and printing can vary depending on the print image.
[0012] For further prior art, reference is made to DE 10 2014 214 696 A1, which discloses a planar drive with movers that move containers and process movers that move components of process stations.
[0013] The invention is based on the object of providing an alternative and / or improved device for printing or labeling containers. Summary of the invention
[0014] The problem is solved by the features of independent claim 1. Advantageous further developments are specified in the dependent claims and the description.
[0015] One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a device for printing or labeling containers. The device comprises a planar drive system with a base element, a first movement device, and a second movement device. The first movement device and the second movement device are movable independently of one another with respect to the base element by means of magnetic interaction with the base element. The first movement device comprises a container holder for holding a container. The second movement device comprises an equipment device for printing or labeling the container.
[0016] The device advantageously offers improved flexibility when equipping containers. Different container diameters and geometries (cylindrical, round, rectangular, free-form) can be flexibly equipped, i.e., labeled or printed, with the device. Furthermore, the device can expediently increase the quality of work during equipping because it enables very flexible movements of the movement devices during equipping, e.g., tilting, rotating, and lifting movements. In particular, very complex relative movements between the container and the equipping device are also possible because both the first movement device and the second movement device are movable. Ultimately, even a container-specific adaptation of the movements of the movement devices is possible, which is provided by the flexibility of the planar drive system and can further increase the quality of work during equipping.
[0017] In one embodiment, the planar drive system is configured (e.g., by means of a control unit) so that while the equipment of the second moving device is printing or labeling the container held by the first moving device: the first movement device moves at least temporarily and the second movement device is substantially stationary, or the second movement device moves at least temporarily and the first movement device is substantially stationary; or the first movement device moves at least temporarily and the second movement device moves at least temporarily.
[0018] In a further embodiment, the planar drive system is configured (e.g., via a control unit) such that, while the equipment of the second movement device is printing or labeling the container held by the first movement device, the first movement device and / or the second movement device are tilted relative to the base element. This can, for example, achieve improved labeling or printing of inclined areas of the container.
[0019] In a further embodiment, the planar drive system is configured (e.g., by means of a control unit) such that, while the equipment device of the second movement device is printing or labeling the container held by the first movement device, the first movement device rotates about its own central axis and / or the second movement device rotates about its own central axis. This can enable, for example, wrap-around labeling or a comparatively long print image.
[0020] In a further embodiment, the planar drive system is configured (e.g., via a control unit) such that, while the equipment device of the second movement device is printing or labeling the container held by the first movement device, the first movement device and / or the second movement device performs a lifting movement relative to the base element. This allows the container to be brought to a desired height position of a print head or a label holder (e.g., label gripper, labeling pallet, or label suction device).
[0021] In one embodiment, the planar drive system is configured (e.g. by means of a control unit) such that while the equipment device of the second movement device prints or labels the container held by the first movement device, the first movement device at least partially moves around, preferably orbits, the second movement device, or the second movement device at least partially moves around, preferably orbits, the first movement device.
[0022] In a further embodiment, the planar drive system (e.g., by means of a control unit) is configured to execute a relative movement between the first movement device and the second movement device, which is individually adapted to the respective container held, while the equipment device of the second movement device is printing or labeling the container held by the first movement device. Preferably, the relative movement is adapted to a container-specific shape of a container surface in the area of the container surface to be equipped, which has, for example, been previously measured by a measuring device. As already mentioned, this can significantly improve the quality of printing or labeling. In particular, even containers with larger manufacturing tolerances can be equipped with a high level of quality. The same applies, for example, to the compensation of tolerances when holding the container using the container holder.
[0023] In a further development, the relative movement is adjusted such that the container is guided past the equipment device at a predetermined distance and / or with a predetermined surface speed. Alternatively or additionally, the relative movement is adjusted depending on a preferably previously detected container-specific shape of the container and / or a preferably previously detected container-specific size of the container.Alternatively or additionally, the relative movement comprises a movement path of the first movement device and / or the second movement device determined for each container individually, in which the container held by the first movement device is guided past the equipping device at a substantially constant surface speed of the container, preferably of a region of the container to be equipped, and / or at a substantially constant distance, preferably with respect to a region of the container to be equipped. Using direct printing as an example, this can achieve, for example, higher print quality through a shorter printing distance, less print mist (waste), and a longer print image length.
[0024] In one embodiment, the equipment device is a labeling device configured to label the container held by the second movement device. Alternatively, the equipment device is a printing device configured to print on the container held by the second movement device.
[0025] In a further embodiment, a plurality of first movement devices are included, wherein the plurality of first movement devices preferably move one after the other toward the second movement device. This advantageously allows the performance of the device to be increased.
[0026] In one embodiment, the planar drive system comprises a further movement device with a measuring device which is designed to measure the container held by the first movement device, preferably with regard to a container-specific shape (e.g. container surface, preferably in the region of the container surface to be equipped) and / or a container-specific size.
[0027] Preferably, the relative movement between the first movement device and the second movement device can be determined individually for each container based on a measurement of the container by means of the measuring device.
[0028] It is possible that the further movement device and the first movement device are moved relative to each other during the measurement, e.g. tilted, rotated, moved around, orbited, raised or lowered.
[0029] In a further embodiment, the planar drive system comprises a further different movement device with a fixing device which is designed to fix an imprint or a label on the container held by the first movement device.
[0030] In a further development, the fixing device is a curing device designed to cure the print on the container held by the first movement device, preferably using UV light. Alternatively, the fixing device is a brushing or rolling sponge device designed to brush or roll the label onto the container held by the first movement device.
[0031] In one embodiment, the planar drive system (e.g., by means of a control unit) is configured to execute a relative movement between the first movement device and the other movement device, which is individually adapted to the respective container held, while the fixing device of the further movement device fixes the print or label of the container held by the first movement device. This can also advantageously significantly improve the quality of work during fixing. In particular, even prints or labels on containers with larger manufacturing tolerances can be fixed with high quality. The same applies, for example, to the compensation of tolerances when holding the container by means of the container holder.
[0032] It is possible for the relative movement to be adjusted such that the container is guided past the fixing device at a predetermined distance and / or at a predetermined surface speed. Alternatively or additionally, the relative movement is adjusted depending on a preferably previously detected container-specific shape (e.g., container surface, preferably in the area of the container surface to be equipped) and / or a preferably previously detected container-specific size of the container.Alternatively or additionally, the relative movement comprises a movement path of the first movement device and / or the further movement device determined individually for each container, in which the container held by the first movement device is guided past the fixing device at a substantially constant surface speed of the container, preferably of the area of the container to be equipped, and / or at a substantially constant distance, preferably with respect to the area to be equipped.
[0033] In a further embodiment, the planar drive system is configured (e.g., by means of a control unit) to adapt the speed of the first movement device during movement from the second movement device to the other movement device to the configuration applied by the configuration device, preferably the imprint (e.g., width, length, position, and / or color). This allows, for example, a drying time until intermediate curing to be flexibly adapted to the respective imprint.
[0034] For example, the base element can be horizontally oriented. Preferably, the base element can be frame-shaped, rectangular, circular, or ring-shaped. In principle, the base element can thus be adapted to different system layouts and installation space requirements.
[0035] Preferably, the movement devices can be carried by the base element in a contactless manner by means of magnetic interaction, preferably on an upper side of the base element.
[0036] Preferably, the device as disclosed herein can be used in a container treatment plant (e.g. for manufacturing, cleaning, testing, filling, closing, labeling, printing and / or packaging containers for liquid media, preferably beverages or liquid foodstuffs).
[0037] Preferably, the term "control unit" can refer to electronics (e.g., with microprocessor(s) and data memory) that, depending on its design, can perform control and / or regulation tasks and / or processing tasks. Even if the term "control" is used herein, it can also appropriately include or mean "regulation" or "control with feedback" and "processing."
[0038] The previously described preferred embodiments and features of the invention can be combined with one another as desired.
[0039] Labeling may include decoration, such as attaching ribbons around a bottle neck, attaching metal strips, etc. Short description of the characters
[0040] Further details and advantages of the invention are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. They show: Figure 1 shows a perspective schematic representation of an apparatus for printing or labeling a container according to an embodiment of the present disclosure; and Figure 2 shows a schematic plan view of an apparatus for printing or labeling a container according to a further embodiment of the present disclosure, depicting the movement path of the container.
[0041] The embodiments shown in the figures correspond at least partially, so that similar or identical parts are provided with the same reference numerals and for their explanation reference is also made to the description of the other embodiments or figures in order to avoid repetition. Detailed description of exemplary embodiments
[0042] The Figure 1 shows a device 10 for printing or labeling containers 12, e.g., bottles (glass bottles, PET bottles, etc.), cans, etc. The device 10 has a planar drive system 14.
[0043] The planar drive system 14 comprises a base element 16 and a plurality of movement devices (movers or runners) 18, 20. The movement devices 18, 20 can be moved freely and independently of one another across the base element 16 by means of magnetic interaction with the base element 16. The movement devices 18, 20 can also be rotated relative to the base element 16 by means of magnetic interaction with the base element 16 (e.g., yaw). The movement devices 18, 20 can also be inclined relative to the base element 16 by means of magnetic interaction with the base element 16 (e.g., pitch and / or roll). The movement devices 18, 20 can also perform a lifting movement upwards or downwards relative to the base element 16 by means of magnetic interaction with the base element 16. The number of movement devices 18, 20 can be freely selected depending on the application.
[0044] The base element 16 forms a stator of the planar drive system 14. The movement devices 18, 20 form rotors of the planar drive system 14. The movement devices 18, 20 are supported contactlessly by the base element 16, preferably on an upper side of the base element 16. The base element 16 can, for example, have a plurality of distributed electromagnets, e.g., electrical coils. The movement devices 18, 20 can have permanent magnets. The electromagnets are preferably arranged in a matrix that extends in a plane of the base element 16 (here preferably a horizontal plane). A control unit (not shown) of the planar drive system 14 can control a current supply to the electromagnets of the base element 16 in order to generate electromagnetic fields at a desired position of the base element 16 with a desired field strength.Propulsion, rotation, inclination, and / or stroke of the movement devices 18, 20 can be effected by corresponding electromagnetic fields of the electromagnets of the base element 16. The base element 16 is preferably oriented in a horizontal plane. However, other orientations are also conceivable, e.g., a vertical orientation.
[0045] The plurality of movement devices 18, 20 comprise at least a first movement device 18 and a second movement device 20.
[0046] The first movement device 18 carries a container holder 22 (only schematically shown in Figure 1indicated). The container holder 22 is designed to hold the container 12 (or multiple containers 12). For example, the container holder 22 can be designed as a gripper, a clamp holder, a suction holder, or otherwise (with or without actuators). The first movement device 18 can thus freely move the container 12 held by the container holder 22 over a surface of the base element.
[0047] The second movement device 20 carries an equipment device 24 for printing or labeling the container 12. Depending on the design, the equipment device 24 can be, for example, a labeling device or a printing device.
[0048] The labeling device can label the container 12 held by the first movement device 18. For example, cold-conductive labels, hot-melt labels, self-adhesive labels, or tubular labels can be applied by the labeling device.
[0049] The printing device can print on the container 12 held by the first movement device 18. For example, the printing device can use a direct printing process. The ink used by the printing device can be curable, for example, using UV radiation.
[0050] Preferably, the first movement device 18 and the second movement device 20 move relative to one another at least temporarily while the equipment device 24 equips the container 12 with an imprint or a label. For example, both movement devices 18, 20 or only one of the movement devices 18 or 20 can move. The movement of the movement device 18 and / or 20 can, for example, comprise an inclination relative to the base element 16, a rotation about its own central axis, and / or a lifting movement relative to the base element 16. Alternatively or additionally, the movement of the movement device 18 or 20 can comprise a movement around, preferably a circumnavigation, of the other movement device 20 or 18.
[0051] To improve the fitting, i.e., labeling or printing, of the container 12, the relative movement between the movement devices 18 and 20 can be individually adapted to the respective container 12 during fitting. Before fitting, the container 12 can be individually measured with regard to a shape and / or size, in particular with regard to the area of the container 12 to be fitted. In this case, for example, exact dimensions of the container 12 can also be recorded within its manufacturing tolerances. The relative movement between the movement devices 18, 20 can be adapted to the individual container shape and / or size in such a way that the container 12 is guided past the fitting device for labeling or printing the container 12 at a predetermined distance and / or with a predetermined surface speed.Preferably, a movement path of the first movement device 18 and / or the second movement device 20 can be determined, preferably calculated, for the relative movement for each container. This movement path is determined such that the container 12 is guided past the equipping device 24 at a substantially constant surface speed of the container 12, in particular with respect to the area to be equipped, and / or at a substantially constant distance. This can significantly improve the quality of a printed image or labeling of the container 12.
[0052] It is possible for the planar drive system 14 to have additional movement devices with application devices for treating or inspecting the container 12 held by the first movement device 18. The additional movement devices can otherwise be constructed like the first and second movement devices 18, 20. A relative movement between the additional movement device and the first movement device 18 can be specifically controlled by the planar drive system 14, like the relative movement between the first and second movement devices 18, 20, preferably on a container-by-container basis.
[0053] The application devices of the further movement devices can preferably have a measuring device, a fixing device and / or a further equipment device.
[0054] The measuring device can measure the container 12 held by the first movement device 18. For example, a size, a surface shape, a diameter, a width, and / or a height of the container 12 can be measured using the measuring device. The measuring device preferably operates using a non-contact measuring principle, e.g., optically using a camera, a laser scanner, or an LED scanner, or acoustically using sound, preferably ultrasound. It is also possible for the measuring device to use a different or additional measuring principle, e.g., a tactile measurement using a measuring probe that is moved over a surface of the container.
[0055] The fixing device can be designed as a print fixing device (curing device or pinning device). The curing device can cure or pin a print on the container 12 held by the first movement device 18. For this purpose, the curing device can, for example, comprise a UV lamp with which the ink of the print can be cured.
[0056] The fixing device can alternatively be designed as a label fixing device with a brush or a rolling sponge. The label fixing device can fix and smooth a label on the container 12 held by the first movement device 18 by brushing or rolling.
[0057] The Figure 2 shows a planar drive system 14 in which a first movement device 18 (shown only once at the beginning for better clarity) moves the container 12 to several movement devices 20, 26, 28, 30.
[0058] The second movement device 20 includes the equipment device 24, which is designed as a printing device. The movement device 26 includes the measuring device 32. The movement device 28 includes the fixing device 34, which is designed as a hardening device. The movement device 30 includes a further equipment device 36, which is also designed as a printing device.
[0059] The first movement device 18 with the container 12 moves along a trajectory curve 38 (shown exaggerated) successively to the movement device 26 with the measuring device 32, the second movement device 20 with the equipment device 24, the movement device 28 with the fixing device 34 and the movement device 30 with the equipment device 36. A relative movement is carried out between the first movement device 18 on the one hand and the measuring device 32, the equipment device 24, the fixing device 34 and the equipment device 36.
[0060] The measuring device 32 measures the container 12 individually with regard to shape, in particular surface shape, and size, while the container 12 is moved along the measuring device 32. The measuring device 32 measures, in particular, a section of the container 12 that will subsequently be equipped by the equipping device 24 (="area to be equipped"). Based on the measurement by the measuring device 32, a movement path 38A for the first movement device 18 is determined, preferably calculated, such that the container 12, as it moves past the equipping device 24, is moved along the equipping device 36 at a constant, preferably as close as possible, distance and with a constant surface speed of the section of the container 12 to be equipped.
[0061] As already mentioned, the movement path 38A could alternatively or additionally also be determined for the second movement device 20. It is understood that the movement path 38A shown is purely exemplary and could also be implemented differently, for example, as an oscillating movement or as a rotating movement in front of each equipment device around the container axis in the case of cylindrical containers.
[0062] The planar drive system 14 then moves the first movement device 18 according to the movement path 38A determined for each container individually along the equipment device 24, while the equipment device 24 prints the container 12. After printing, the first movement device 18 is moved further to the movement device 28 with the fixing device 34. During the movement of the first movement device 18 to the fixing device 34, a speed of the first movement device 18 can be adjusted in order to ensure that a predetermined period of time elapses between printing and curing. Preferably, the speed of the first movement device 18 can be adjusted for each individual print to the imprint on the container 12 carried out by means of the equipment device 24. The first movement device 18 is moved according to a movement path 38B along the movement device 28 orthe fixing device 34 during the curing / pinning of the print on the container 12. The movement path 38B may correspond to the movement path 38A or be determined in a similar manner in addition to a configuration of the fixing device 34.
[0063] After fixing, the first movement device 18 can optionally be moved to the movement device 30 with the equipment device 36 to further print the container 12 (for example, for a multi-color print). During the equipment process, the first movement device 18 can move along the movement path 38C, which can correspond to the movement path 38A or be determined in a similar manner depending additionally on a configuration of the equipment device 36.
[0064] Due to the possibility of inclining the movement devices 18, 20 and / or 30 with respect to the base element 16, even inclined surfaces of the container 12 can be printed by means of the equipment device 24 and / or 36. By adjusting the stroke of the movement devices 18, 20 and / or 30, an alignment in height with the print heads of the equipment devices 24, 36 is possible, so that, for example, the droplets ejected by the print heads are correctly placed from color to color. In principle, different primers and colors can be applied to the container 12 by moving different printing devices. Figure 2The application example described can also be applied analogously to the labeling of containers 12. The determined movement path can, for example, be a rotation of the first movement device 18 for wrap-around labeling or an oscillating movement for (cold) glue labeling by means of the equipment device 24 designed as a labeling device.
