MODULAR SECURITY DEVICE UTILITY MODEL

Abstract

Electronic manufacturing companies have a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) area where they use component placement machines to assemble electronic circuit boards. These machines are called "Pick and Place" machines. Picking up a component and placing it on the board to be assembled poses a risk to the user. Therefore, devices have been implemented to constantly feed the machines (feeders) to supply the moving production lines. Depending on the production volume and the product being assembled, the programs controlling the machines may vary in the number of feeders, leaving gaps between them where the user's arm can be inserted. This represents the most significant risk because it can cause injury and, in the worst-case scenario, result in the amputation of one or more fingers or even the entire arm.The present invention relates to a safety device that is installed on equipment or in physical plant in such a way that by employing a multiplicity of sensors, it allows alerting either a conventional safety system or causing an automatic stop of the equipment where it is installed in order to avoid the risk to the operator of the equipment.
