Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution communication based on IoT frame structure. In a solution, an internet of thing (IoT) device receives, from a communication device, a configuration indicating frame structure information for an IoT radio interface. The frame structure information indicates types of a plurality of IoT symbols in sequence within a frame. The IoT device receives, from the communication device, a first signal based on the frame structure information. The first signal comprises a set of sub-signals in time domain. The IoT device transmits, to the communication device, a second signal based on the frame structure information. The second signal is a backscatter signal generated based on a subset of the sub-signals from the first signal.

Description

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATION

[0001] FIELDS

[0002] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for communication based on internet of thing (IoT) frame structure.BACKGROUND

[0003] Internet of Things, or IoT, is a network of physical devices. These devices can transfer data to one another without human intervention. The automation and digitalization of various industries open numbers of new markets requiring new IoT technologies of supporting battery-less devices with no energy storage capability or devices with energy storage that do not need to be replaced or recharged manually. It may consider devices being either battery-less or with limited energy storage capability (i.e., using a capacitor) and the energy is provided through the harvesting of radio waves, light, motion, heat, or any other power source that could be seen suitable. Considering the limited size and complexity required by practical applications for battery-less devices with no energy storage capability or devices with limited energy storage that do not need to be replaced or recharged manually, the output power of energy harvester is typically from 1μW to a few hundreds of μW. Existing cellular devices may not work well with energy harvesting due to their peak power consumption of higher than 10mW.

[0004] An example type of application may be asset identification, which presently has to resort mainly to barcode and radio frequency identity (RFID) in most industries. The main advantage of these two technologies is the ultra-low complexity and small form factor of the tags. However, the limited reading range of a few meters usually requires handheld scanning which leads to labor intensive and time-consuming operations, or RFID portals / gates which leads to costly deployments. Moreover, the lack of interference management scheme results in severe interference between RFID readers and capacity problems, especially in case of dense deployment. It is hard to support large-scale network with seamless coverage for RFID.SUMMARY

[0044] FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E illustrate examples of a communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented, respectively. In an example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1A, the communication environment 100 may include an IoT device 110 and a network device 120. In another example embodiment, the communication environment 100 shown in FIG. 1B may include the IoT device 110, the network device 120 and an intermediate node 130 that is capable of IoT (for example, ambient IoT) . The intermediate node 130 may be one of: a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, a UE, or a repeater. In IAB networks, IAB nodes, act either as relay nodes carrying the traffic through multiple hops from a macrocell to an end user and vice versa or as  access points to serve UEs in their proximity.

[0045] In a further example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1C, the communication environment 100 may include the IoT device 110, the network device 120, and an assisting node 140 that is capable of IoT (for example, ambient IoT) . The assisting node 140 can provide a signal to the IoT device 110 and can be regarded as a signal source. The assisting node 140 may be one of: a relay device, an IAB node, a UE, or a repeater. In a yet example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1D, the communication environment 100 may include the IoT device 110 and a terminal device 150. In another example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1E, the communication environment 100 may include the IoT device 110, the network device 120 and the terminal device 150.

[0046] In some embodiments, the IoT device 110 shown in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E may be provided with carrier wave from another node (s) either inside or outside the communication environment 100. The links in the communication environment 100 shown in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E may be bidirectional or unidirectional.

[0047] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections shown in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of devices configured to implementing example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0048] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0049] In an example embodiment, the IoT device may be a first type of IoT device where there is no energy storage, no harvesting ambient sources, or no independent signal generation at the first type of IoT device. In another example embodiment, the IoT device may be a second  type of IoT device that has energy storage from harvesting ambient sources but no independent signal generation. In this case, the use of stored energy can include amplification for reflected signals. The first and second types of IoT devices may perform backscattering transmissions, since there is no independent signal generation. In a further example embodiment, the IoT device may be a third type of IoT device that has energy storage from harvesting ambient sources and has independent signal generation. The third type of IoT device may have active RF component for transmission.

[0050] The IoT communication performed may be based on an IoT symbol structure. The IoT device 110 and the device communicating with the IoT device 110 (for example, the network device 120, the intermediate node 130, the assisting node 140 and the terminal device 150) may support the IoT symbol structure.

[0051] In an embodiment, one IoT symbol may include one or more orthogonal frequency division discrete multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. That is, a time duration of one IoT symbol may be equal to a time duration of one or more OFDM symbols. OFDM may refer to a multicarrier modulation in which a user bit stream is transmitted over Nc subcarriers. An OFDM symbol duration may be based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) size, i.e., the number of subcarriers. In this way, it could have better coexistence with current system and typical data rates for ambient IoT service could be satisfied considering the OFDM symbol rates. For example, the time duration of one IoT symbol may be equal to the time duration of 7 OFDM symbols. By way of example, the time duration of the IoT (reception) symbol 210-1 may be equal to the time duration of OFDM symbols 230-1, 230-2, 230-3, 230-4, 230-5, 230-6 and 230-7 and the time duration of the IoT (reception) symbol 210-1 may be equal to the time duration of OFDM symbols 230-8, 230-9, 230-10, 230-11, 230-12, 230-13 and 230-14. In other words, one IoT symbol may include 7 OFDM symbols in the case shown in FIG. 3A. It is noted that FIG. 3A is only an example not limitation.

[0052] In some embodiments, the time duration of one IoT symbol may be equal to a total time duration of the one or more OFDM symbols including a Cyclic Prefix (CP) . In this way, it has better compatibility. Cyclic Prefix (CP) may refer to a technique used in digital communication systems to mitigate the effects of inter-symbol interference (ISI) and multi-path fading. The CP may be a set of samples that are duplicated to the end of each transmitted symbol to its beginning, functioning as a guard interval. In an example, CP may be not needed for the IoT symbol. The number of symbols per slot (frame) may be 14 (in case of Normal CP) . The number of symbols per slot (frame) may be 12 (in case of Extended CP) . The  number of symbols within a slot may not change with the numerology or subcarrier spacing.

[0053] In some embodiment, the number of OFDM symbols for one IoT symbol may be 7×2u, where u is the numerology of an OFDM symbol. For example, u may be one of: 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4. In this case, the time duration of one IoT symbol may be 0.5ms. One bit for each IoT symbol may have nearly 2kbps data rate. In an example embodiment, since the first OFDM symbol for normal CP at the beginning of each 0.5ms half-subframe is longer, a 0.5ms IoT duration can have equal time duration for each IoT symbols.

[0054] In some other embodiments, extend CP (ECP) for a subcarrier spacing (SCS) (for example, 60 kHz) may be used for determining the IoT symbol that each IoT symbol may have the same symbol duration since ECP have the same duration for each OFDM symbol. In this case, the candidate value for ECP may be one of 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12. Subcarrier spacing of 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 kHz may be supported. That is, subcarriers may be spaced from 15 kHz to 240 kHz apart. A subcarrier may be a secondary modulated signal frequency modulated into the main frequency (i.e., the carrier) to provide an additional channel of transmission.

[0055] Alternatively, one OFDM symbol or one subframe may include a plurality of IoT symbols. For example, the time duration of the OFDM symbol or a length of a subframe may be equal to the time duration of the plurality of IoT symbols in the frame. In this case, in some embodiments, the time duration of the IoT symbol may be determined based on the number of predetermined time units. For example, each IoT symbol may be determined by the number of chips (for example, sampling rate Ts defined in LTE and / or NR) used. The term “chip” used herein may refer to a time unit. For example, as shown in FIG. 3B, the time duration of the OFDM symbol 231 may be equal to the time duration of the IoT (reception) symbols 211-1 and 211-2. That is, the OFDM symbol 231 may include the IoT symbols 211-1 and 211-2. It is noted that FIG. 3B is only an example not limitation.

[0056] In some example embodiments, an IoT symbol for reception (also referred to as “IoT reception symbol” ) may have different time duration from an IoT symbol for transmission (also referred to as “IoT transmission symbol” ) . In this case, the time durations for the IoT transmission and reception symbols may be separately configured or indicated. For example, the time duration of the IoT transmission symbol may be longer than the time duration of IoT reception symbol. By way of example, as shown in FIG. 3A, the time duration of the IoT transmission symbol 220 may be equal to the time duration of the IoT reception symbols 210-1 and 210-2. It is noted that FIG. 3A is only an example not limitation. In this way, longer  symbol duration for transmission, for backscattering transmission, may improve the coverage of the IoT device since limited power for backscattering transmission is the bottleneck for the coverage.

[0057] Alternatively, the IoT reception symbol may have a same time duration as the IoT transmission symbol. By way of example, as shown in FIG. 3B, the time duration of the IoT transmission symbol 221 may be equal to the time duration of the IoT reception symbols 211-1. It is noted that FIG. 3B is only an example not limitation.

[0058] Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of a communication on IoT frame in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1A to FIG. 1D. The signaling flow involves the IoT device 110 and a communication device 320. The communication device 320 may be one of: the network device 120, the intermediate node 130, the assisting node 140 or the terminal device 150.

[0059] The communication device 320 transmits (3010) a configuration indicating frame structure information for an IoT radio interface to the IoT device 110. The frame structure information indicates a type of an IoT symbol (or a subframe) within a frame. For example, the frame structure information may indicate types of a plurality of IoT symbols (or a plurality of subframes) in a sequence within the frame. That is, the IoT device 110 receives the configuration from the communication device 320. The frame may have a predetermined time duration and include a predetermined number of subframes where each subframe has a same time duration. For example, the frame has 10ms duration and includes 10 subframes where each subframe has 1ms duration. Some symbols may be defined within the subframe, where the symbol may have its carrier frequency and time duration. Only for the purpose of illustrations, embodiments are described with reference to the plurality of IoT symbols within the frame. It is noted that embodiments are also applicable to the case where the frame includes the plurality of subframes. In this way, the IoT device can be indicated on which symbol to transmit, to receive or to charge and the IoT device can be deployed together with existing NR / narrow band (NB) -IoT service.

[0060] For example, as shown in FIG. 4A, the frame structure information indicates types of IoT symbols 410-1, 410-2, 410-3, 410-4, 410-5 and 410-6 in the frame 400. It is noted that the number of IoT symbols shown in FIG. 4A is only an example not limitation. In this way, the IoT has less than 10bits (1024 frames) to indicate system frame number (SFN) and it can reduce the signaling overhead to indicate SFN considering IoT device may not keep tracking of the  connectivity with long time.

[0061] The type of the IoT symbol may include one or more of: a common IoT reception symbol, a dedicated IoT reception symbol, a common IoT transmission symbol, a dedicated IoT transmission symbol, a charging symbol, or an empty symbol. In an example embodiment, the plurality of symbols may include one or more common IoT reception symbols (may also referred to as “basic reception symbol” ) . If a IoT symbol is a common IoT reception symbol, at least one of the above mentioned first type of IoT device or the second type of IoT device may receive signal (s) on that symbol.

[0062] In another example embodiment, the plurality of symbols may include one or more dedicated IoT reception symbols related to an IoT capability (may also referred to as “senior reception symbol” ) . If a IoT symbol is a dedicated IoT reception symbol, the second type of IoT device may receive signal (s) on the symbol and the first type of IoT device may not be expected to receive or transmit the signal on that symbol. The IoT capability may refer to an energy storage capability.

[0063] In a further example embodiment, the plurality of symbols may include one or more common IoT transmission symbols (may also referred to as “basic transmission symbol” ) . If a IoT symbol is a common IoT transmission symbol, at least one of the first type of IoT device or the second type of IoT device may transmit signal (s) on that symbol.

[0064] In a yet example embodiment, the plurality of symbols may include one or more dedicated IoT transmission symbols related to the IoT capability (may also referred to as “senior transmission symbol” ) . If a IoT symbol is a dedicated IoT transmission symbol, the second type of IoT device may transmit signal (s) on the symbol and the first type of IoT device may not be expected to receive or transmit the signal on that symbol.

[0065] In some embodiments, the plurality of symbols may include one or more charging symbols. If a IoT symbol is a charging symbol, RF signals may be expected on that symbol for charging and no transmission and / or reception can be performed on that symbol. For example, the second type of IoT device may be charged using the RF signals on that symbol.

[0066] Alternatively, or in addition, the plurality of symbols may include one or more empty symbols. If a IoT symbol is an empty symbol, RF signals may not be expected on that symbol for charging and no transmission and / or reception can be performed on that symbol. For example, the IoT device 110 may skip the transmission or reception on the empty symbol. The first type of IoT device may not be required to maintain frame timing after the empty symbol.

[0067] The IoT device 110 may determine (3020) the frame structure information based on the configuration. In an example embodiment, the IoT device 110 may directly obtain the frame structure information from the configuration. FIG. 4B illustrates an example of the frame structure information. For example, the frame structure information in the received (3010) configuration may indicate that the symbol 410-2 is the basic reception symbol, the symbol 410-3 is the basic reception symbol, the symbol 410-4 is the charging symbol, the symbol 410-5 is the basic transmission symbol, and the symbol 410-6 is the senior transmission symbol.

[0068] Alternatively, the IoT device 110 may obtain an index of the frame structure information from the configuration. For example, a subframe index to indicate the frame structure information may be specified or predefined. The subframe index to indicate the frame structure information may be indicated dynamically. In an example embodiment, the index of the frame structure information may be indicated on the first subframe for each 20 ms. Alternatively, the index of the frame structure information may be indicated on any subframe including the frame structure information. In this way, it has benefit to adjust transmission based on the payload of service. The IoT may have limited coverage and limited number of devices that the require service may be changed dynamically.

[0069] The IoT device 110 may obtain the frame structure information from a predetermined frame structure table based on the index. Table 1 below shows an example table of the frame structure. It is noted that Table 1 is only an example not limitation. In an example embodiment, the frame structure table may be preconfigured at the IoT device 110.

[0070] Table 1

[0071] For example, if the index indicates “1” , the IoT device 110 may obtain the frame structure information shown in FIG. 4C from the above table. As shown in FIG. 4C, the frame structure information may indicate that the symbol 410-1 indicates the index, the symbol 410-2 is the basic reception symbol, the symbol 410-3 is the basic reception symbol, the symbol 410-4 is the charging symbol, the symbol 410-5 is the basic transmission symbol, and the symbol 410-6 is the senior transmission symbol.

[0072] Referring back to FIG. 3, the communication device 320 transmits (3030) a first signal to the IoT device 110 based on the frame structure information. The first signal includes a set of sub-signals in time domain. For example, the sub-signal may include an up-converted baseband signal. That is, the IoT device 110 receives the first signal from the communication device 320 based on the frame structure information. In an example embodiment, if the IoT device 110 has the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may receive the first signal on the common reception symbol and the dedicated reception symbol. Alternatively, if the IoT device 110 does not have the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may receive the first signal on the common reception symbol. For example, as shown in FIG. 4C, the IoT device 110 may receive the first signals on the symbols 410-2 and 410-3. In addition, the IoT device 110 may receive an RF signal on the symbol 410-4. In this case, the IoT device 110 may be charged using the received RF signal on the symbol 410-4.

[0073] The IoT device 110 transmits (3040) a second signal to the communication device 320 based on the frame structure information. That is, the communication device 320 receives the second signal from the IoT device 110. The second signal is a backscatter signal generated based on a subset of the sub-signals from the first signal. For example, the second signal may be a time-domain function of the contiguous subset of the plurality of sub-signals in time domain. In an example embodiment, if the IoT device 110 has the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may transmit the second signal on the common transmission symbol and the dedicated transmission symbol. Alternatively, if the IoT 110 does not have the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may transmit the second signal on the common transmission symbol. For example, as shown in FIG. 4C, the IoT device 110 may transmit the second signal on the symbol 410-5. In some embodiments, if the IoT device 110 has the IoT capability (i.e., the second type of IoT device) , the IoT device 110 may also transmit the second signal on the symbol 410-6.  Alternatively, if the IoT device 110 does not have the IoT capability (i.e., the first type of IoT device) , the IoT device 110 may not transmit the second signal on the symbol 410-6.

[0074] Reference is made to FIG. 5, which illustrates a signaling flow 500 of a communication on IoT frame in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of illustrations, the signaling flow involves a terminal device 150 and a network device 120 shown in FIG. 1E.

[0075] The terminal device 150 transmits (5010) capability information to the network device 120. That is, the network device 520 receives the capability information from the terminal device 510. The capability information may be about simultaneous communication on the link 101 (referred to as “first link” hereinafter) between the terminal device 150 and the IoT device 110 and the link 102 (referred to as “first link” hereinafter) between the terminal device 150 and the network device 120. Alternatively, the capability information may be about communication on one of the link 101 or the link 102 in a time duration. In this way, the terminal device can keep connection with network by Uu interface (i.e., the interface between UE and gNB) and keep connection with IoT device with new interface.

[0076] The network device 120 may transmit (5020) timing advance information between the first link and the second link to the terminal device 150. That is, the terminal device 150 may receive the timing advance information from the network device 120. In this way, scheduling of IoT transmission / reception by UE can be determined based on the indicated gap information and Uu transmission / reception scheduling information by network.

[0077] In an example embodiment, the timing advance information may include a first timing advance value between a first frame of the first link 101 for transmission and a first frame of the second link 102 for reception. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, the timing advance information may include the timing advance 620 between the frame of new interface link (i.e., the link 101) for the IoT device 110 and the frame of Uu interface link (i.e., the link 102) for UE downlink reception timing. In this way, the network can align the timing of the frame of new interface between network transmission signal and UE transmission signal.

[0078] Alternatively, or in addition, the timing advance information may include a second timing advance value between a second from of the first link 101 for reception and a second frame of the first link 101 for transmission. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, the timing advance information may include the timing advance 610 between the frame of new interface link (i.e., the link 101) for receiving signal and the frame of new interface link (i.e., the link 101) for  transmitting signal.

[0079] In some embodiments, no timing advance may be indicated for IoT transmission and reception. In this case, the terminal device 150 may be configured with a reserved time duration for switching between transmission and reception on the first link. For example, some reserved or flexible symbols may be configured or specified between IoT transmission to reception switching and reception to transmission switching. The reserved symbol can be used for switching gap. Comparing with timing advance, it may reduce ambient IoT complexity for not needing for tracking timing advance.

[0080] In some other embodiments, the timing advance information may include a gap duration (for example, the number of OFDM symbols) between the first and second links. In an example embodiment, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE transmitting IoT signal to UE transmitting Uu signal. In another example embodiment, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE transmitting ambient IoT signal to UE receiving Uu signal, for example, the gap duration 630 in FIG. 6. In a yet example embodiment, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE receiving IoT signal to UE transmitting Uu signal. In a further example embodiment, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE receiving IoT signal to UE receiving Uu signal. In a yet example embodiment, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE transmitting Uu signal to UE transmitting IoT signal. In an example embodiment, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE transmitting Uu signal to UE receiving IoT signal, for example, the gap duration 640 in FIG. 6. For example, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE receiving Uu signal to UE transmitting IoT signal. Alternatively, or in addition, the gap duration may be used for switching from UE receiving Uu signal to UE receiving IoT signal. In this way, it can help UE to decide how to coordinate the resource for ambient IoT and resource for NR / NB-IoT.

[0081] FIG. 7 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 700 implemented at an internet of thing (IoT) device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the IoT device 110 in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E.

[0082] At block 710, the IoT device 110 receives, from a communication device, a configuration indicating frame structure information for an IoT radio interface. The frame structure information indicates a type of an IoT symbol within a frame. In some example embodiments, the frame has a predetermined time duration and comprises a predetermined  number of subframes where each subframe has a same time duration.

[0083] At block 720, the IoT device 110 receives, from the communication device, a first signal based on the frame structure information. The first signal comprises a set of sub-signals in time domain.

[0084] At block 730, the IoT device 110 transmits, to the communication device, a second signal based on the frame structure information. The second signal is a backscatter signal generated based on a subset of the sub-signals from the first signal.

[0085] In some example embodiments, the type of the IoT symbol comprises at least one of: a common IoT reception symbol, a dedicated IoT reception symbol related to an IoT capability, a common IoT transmission symbol, a dedicated IoT transmission symbol related to the IoT capability, a charging symbol, an empty symbol.

[0086] In some example embodiments, if the IoT device 110 has the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may receive the first signal on the common reception symbol and the dedicated reception symbol. Alternatively, if the IoT device 110 is lack of the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may receive the first signal on the common reception symbol.

[0087] In some example embodiments, if the IoT device 110 has the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may transmit the second signal on the common transmission symbol and the dedicated transmission symbol. Alternatively, if the IoT device 110 is lack of the IoT capability, the IoT device 110 may transmit the second signal on the common transmission symbol.

[0088] In some example embodiments, the IoT device 110 may receive a radio frequency signal for charging the IoT device on the charging symbol. In some example embodiments, the IoT device 110 may cause a transmission and a reception to be skipped on the empty symbol.

[0089] In some example embodiments, the IoT device 110 may obtain the frame structure information from the configuration. In some example embodiments, the IoT device 110 may obtain an index of the frame structure information from the configuration. The IoT device 110 may obtain, based on the index, the frame structure information from a predetermined frame structure table.

[0090] In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbol in the frame is  equal to a time duration of one or more orthogonal frequency division discrete multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. In some example embodiments, a time duration of an OFDM symbol or a length of a subframe is equal to a time duration of a plurality of IoT symbols in the frame. In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbols is determined based on the number of predetermined time units. In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbol in the frame is equal to a total time duration of one or more OFDM symbols including a cyclic prefix. In some example embodiments, the number of OFDM symbols for an IoT symbol is represented as 7×2u, wherein u represents a number related to a subcarrier spacing for an OFDM symbol. In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbol is determined based on an extended cyclic prefix for a predetermined subcarrier spacing. In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbol for reception in the plurality of IoT symbols is different from a time duration of an IoT symbol for transmission in the plurality of IoT symbols.

[0091] FIG. 8 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 800 implemented at a terminal device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 800 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 150.

[0092] At block 810, the terminal device 150 transmits, to a network device 120, a capability information of the terminal device. The capability information is on simultaneous communication on first and second links or communication on one of the first and second links in a time duration. The first link is between the terminal device 150 and an internet of thing (IoT) device 110 and the second link is between the terminal device 150 and the network device 120.

[0093] In some example embodiments, at block 820, the terminal device 150 may receive, from the network device 120, timing advance information between the first link and the second link. In some example embodiments, the timing advance information comprises at least one of: a first timing advance value between a first frame of the first link for transmission and a first frame of the second link for reception, a second timing advance value between a second from of the first link for reception and a second frame of the first link for transmission, or a gap duration between the first and second links.

[0094] In some example embodiments, the terminal device is configured with a reserved  time duration for switching between transmission and reception on the first link.

[0095] FIG. 9 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 900 implemented at a communication device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the communication device may be any one of: the network device 120, the intermediate node 130, the assisting node 140, or the terminal device 150.

[0096] At block 910, the communication device transmits, to an IoT device, a configuration indicating frame structure information for an IoT radio interface. The frame structure information indicates a type of an IoT symbol within a frame.

[0097] At block 920, the communication device transmits, to the IoT device, a first signal based on the frame structure information. The first signal comprises a set of sub-signals in time domain.

[0100] In some example embodiments, the frame has a predetermined time duration and comprises a predetermined number of subframes where each subframe has a same time duration. In some example embodiments, the configuration comprises the frame structure information. Alternatively, the configuration comprises an index of the frame structure information.

[0101] In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbol in the frame is equal to a time duration of one or more orthogonal frequency division discrete multiplexing (OFDM) symbols.

[0102] In some example embodiments, the number of OFDM symbols for an IoT symbol is represented as 7×2u, where u represents a number related to a subcarrier spacing for an OFDM symbol. In some example embodiments, a time duration of an IoT symbol is determined based on an extended cyclic prefix for a predetermined subcarrier spacing. In some example embodiments, a time duration of a reception IoT symbol in the plurality of IoT symbols is different from a time duration of a transmission IoT symbol in the plurality of IoT symbols.

[0103] FIG. 10 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1000 implemented at a network device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1000 will be described from the perspective of the network device 120.
