Description

An OSFP-XD optical module and its installation method

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0002] This application claims priority from the following patent applications:

[0003] (1) A Chinese patent application entitled “An OSFP-XD optical module and its installation method” was submitted to the China Patent Office on September 28, 2023 with application number 202311292961.X. Technical Field

[0004] The present invention relates to the field of optical communication modules, and in particular to an OSFP-XD optical module and an installation method thereof. Background Art

[0005] With the rapid development of new services such as smart optical networks, cloud storage, and cloud computing, as well as the widespread adoption of AI application models such as Wenxin Yiyan, iFlytek Spark, and ChatGPT, the demand for computing power is increasing. This, in turn, places higher demands on high-speed interconnects within data centers, leading to a corresponding increase in bandwidth and data rate requirements. To meet these demands, the Octal Small Form Factor eXtra Dense Pluggable Module (OSFP-XD), a new form factor for optical modules, has emerged. It supports the upgrade of global communication network architectures to 1.6T and provides an ideal solution for next-generation data center construction. This module's high density and compact size effectively improve the integration and performance of optical modules. The two main approaches to increasing optical module speeds are increasing the number of channels or increasing the rate per channel. However, these approaches also present challenges. As the number of channels and data rates increase, the density of the optical components within the module increases, which in turn increases the power consumption of the components. These factors will cause the heat generated inside the optical module to increase. If this heat is not discharged in time, it will directly affect the normal operation of the optical module. In order to ensure efficient heat dissipation of the optical module, effective heat dissipation measures must be taken.

[0006] In order to dissipate heat from the optical module, it is usually necessary to set a heat sink inside the optical module and set an air duct inside the heat sink to transfer heat to the outside of the optical module through the air duct inside the heat sink. When setting a heat sink inside the optical module, the heat sink is usually set on the optical module housing and is in close contact with the housing so that the heat inside the optical module can be extracted from the optical module through heat exchange, thereby reducing the temperature of the optical module. In existing OSFP-XD optical modules, the number of channels is usually increased by stacking up and down to improve the density of the optical module. Since the adapter adopts a stacking arrangement up and down, one end of the housing (i.e., the end where the adapter is set) is higher than the other end. When the heat sink is set on the housing, since one end of the housing is higher than the other end, the air inlet of the heat sink will be blocked by one end of the housing, forming a large damping, making it difficult to smoothly transfer the heat inside the optical module to the outside of the optical module through the air duct set by the heat sink. Therefore, improvements are needed to smoothly transfer heat and improve the working performance, stability and service life of the optical module.

[0007] In view of this, how to overcome the defects of the existing technology and solve the above technical problems is a difficult problem to be solved in this technical field.

[0061] In the description of the present invention, the terms "inside", "outside", "longitudinal", "lateral", "upper", "lower", "top", "bottom", etc. indicate orientations or positional relationships based on the orientations or positional relationships shown in the accompanying drawings. They are only for the convenience of describing the present invention and do not require that the present invention must be constructed and operated in a specific orientation. Therefore, they should not be understood as limitations on the present invention.

[0062] The following will clearly and completely describe the technical solutions in the embodiments of the present invention in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Obviously, the described embodiments are only part of the embodiments of the present invention, not all of the embodiments. Based on the embodiments of the present invention, all other embodiments obtained by ordinary technicians in this field without making any creative efforts shall fall within the scope of protection of the present invention.

[0063] Example 1:

[0064] An embodiment of the present invention provides an OSFP-XD optical module, as shown in FIG1-FIG2 , including a housing 1 and a heat sink 2 .

[0065] A first mounting groove 11 is provided above the housing base 1 , and the heat sink 2 is provided in the first mounting groove 11 . A plurality of air ducts 21 along the axial direction of the housing base 1 are provided on the heat sink 2 .

[0066] At least one air flow groove 15 is provided on the housing 1, and the air flow groove 15 is arranged opposite to the air inlet of one or more air ducts 21, so that external cold air is drawn into the air duct 21 through the air flow groove 15 to dissipate heat inside the optical module.

[0067] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, an embodiment of the present invention includes a housing 1 and a heat sink 2. A first mounting groove 11 is provided on the housing 1. The heat sink 2 is provided in the first mounting groove 11, and the heat sink 2 is used to dissipate heat from the optical module. In a specific application scenario, the OSFP-XD optical module of the embodiment of the present invention adopts an upper and lower stacking arrangement. When the air duct 21 in the heat sink 2 is used for heat dissipation, the stacking design will block the air inlet of the heat sink 2, thereby making the air flow direction of the heat sink 2 not smooth. The embodiment of the present invention provides at least one air flow groove 15 on the housing 1 of the OSFP-XD optical module, and arranges the air flow groove 15 relative to the air inlet of one or more air ducts 21 on the heat sink 2 so that the air flow groove 15 is connected to the air duct 21 in the heat sink 2, thereby forming a channel for dissipating heat from the OSFP-XD optical module of the embodiment of the present invention, thereby ensuring that the OSFP-XD optical module operates under normal operating temperature conditions.

[0068] In the embodiment of the present invention, a first mounting groove 11 is provided above the housing base 1, and the heat sink 2 is disposed within the first mounting groove 11. Specifically, baffles (see FIG. 2 , not marked in the figure) are provided on both sides of the housing base 1 to form the first mounting groove 11 for mounting the heat sink 2. The heat sink 2 is provided with a plurality of air ducts 21 along the axial direction of the housing base 1. In the embodiment of the present invention, the heat sink 2 may be made of, but is not limited to, aluminum. The heat sink 2 is provided with a plurality of hollow open cavities to form the air ducts 21 within the heat sink 2. During the manufacturing process, the heat sink 2 may be made of, but is not limited to, die-casting, which has low precision requirements, low cost, and good thermal conductivity. In addition, in actual application, the heat sink 2 needs to contact the heat sink 321 (as shown in FIG. 3 ) on the cage 3. The heat sink 2 is made of aluminum, a metal with good ductility, which can ensure the roughness and flatness of the surface of the heat sink 2, making it easy for the heat sink 2 to contact and conduct heat with the module cage and the system radiator.

[0069] As shown in Figures 3 to 5, the OSFP-XD optical module according to the embodiment of the present invention further includes a cage 3; a grid through hole 31 is provided on one end of the cage 3, and the cage 3 is sleeved on the housing 1. The air outlet of the air duct 21 is connected to the grid through hole 31, so as to facilitate heat dissipation of the optical module through the air flow groove 15, the air duct 21 and the grid through hole 31.

[0070] As shown in Figure 3, the embodiment of the present invention also includes a cage 3, which is sleeved on the housing 1 and mainly serves to protect the optical module. To further dissipate heat from the optical module, a grid through-hole 31 is provided at one end of the cage 3 of the embodiment of the present invention. Specifically, the grid through-hole 31 is provided at the rear end of the cage 3, and the grid through-hole 31 is connected to the air duct 21 on the heat sink 2 to facilitate heat dissipation of the optical module. It is worth noting that the shape of the grid through-hole 31 of the embodiment of the present invention can be set according to the specific situation. For example, the grid through-hole 31 can be, but is not limited to, set to one or more of square, circular, and bar shapes.

[0071] The OSFP-XD optical module of an embodiment of the present invention includes a housing 1, a heat sink 2 and a cage 3. An air duct 21 is provided on the heat sink 2, and the heat sink 2 provided with the air duct 21 is installed in the first mounting groove 11 of the housing 1; a grid through hole 31 is provided at one end of the cage 3. When the cage 3 is sleeved on the housing 1, the air duct 21 is connected to the grid through hole 31 to form a channel for dissipating heat from the optical module.

[0072] In order to illustrate the complete solution of the embodiment of the present invention, the details of the embodiment of the present invention are described in detail below. During the installation of the heat sink 2, in order to fix the heat sink 2 in the first mounting groove 11, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, at least one fin 12 along the axial direction of the shell 1 is provided on the inner wall of one end of the first mounting groove 11, and a protrusion 121 is provided at one end of the fin 12. The protrusion 121 is suspended on one end of the fin 12 so that the protrusion 121 and the bottom surface of the first mounting groove 11 form a clamping notch 122 (as shown in Figure 8). The protrusion 121 is provided in the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2 to clamp and fix the heat sink 2 through the clamping notch 122.

[0073] As shown in Figures 6 to 8, a fin 12 is provided in the first mounting groove 11 of the embodiment of the present invention. A protrusion 121 is provided at one end of the fin 12. The protrusion 121 is suspended on the fin 12. By inserting the protrusion 121 into the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2, the heat sink 2 is fixed in the first mounting groove 11 through the fin 12. Specifically, the lower end of the fin 12 of the embodiment of the present invention is provided on the first mounting groove 11, and the fin 12 is arranged axially along the housing 1 as a whole; a protrusion 121 is provided near the upper side of one end of the fin 12. The protrusion 121 is suspended so that a retaining notch 122 is formed between the protrusion 121 and the bottom surface of the first mounting groove 11. When the heat sink 2 is installed in the first mounting groove 11, the port of the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2 is inserted into the protrusion 121 on the fin 12 to fix the heat sink 2 in the first mounting groove 11. It is worth noting that a plurality of air ducts 21 are provided on the heat sink 2 of the embodiment of the present invention, and one fin 12 only needs to be clamped with one air duct 21; through the action of the fin 12, on the one hand, the heat sink 2 is fixedly clamped in the first mounting groove 11, and on the other hand, during the installation of the heat sink 2, the fin 12 can also be used to locate the installation position of the heat sink 2.

[0074] The optical module of the embodiment of the present invention is provided with a cage 3. In order to further dissipate heat for the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention, as shown in FIG3 , the cage 3 of the embodiment of the present invention is provided with a second mounting groove 32. A heat dissipation frame 321 is provided in the second mounting groove 32. The bottom surface of the heat dissipation frame 321 extends toward the interior of the cage 3 by a first preset thickness so that the heat dissipation frame 321 fits on the heat dissipation element 2.

[0075] As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the embodiment of the present invention provides a second mounting groove 32 on the cage 3 and a corresponding heat sink 321 within the second mounting groove 32. When the cage 3 is mounted on the housing 1, the heat sink 321 rests on the heat sink 2. The heat sink 2 and the heat sink 321 work together to dissipate heat from the interior of the optical module. To stably position the heat sink 321 on the cage 3, the bottom of the heat sink 321 of the embodiment of the present invention is conveniently cut to form a notch 6 (see Figure 4) on the edge of the bottom of the heat sink 321. When the heat sink 321 is mounted on the second mounting groove 32, the notch 6 at the bottom of the heat sink 321 engages the second mounting groove 32. Under the action of gravity, the heat sink 321 is retained within the second mounting groove 32.

[0076] It is worth noting that, in order to fix the heat sink 321 in the second mounting groove 32, the bottom of the heat sink 321 in the embodiment of the present invention extends into the interior of the cage 3 by a first preset thickness. The first preset thickness in the embodiment of the present invention can be, but is not limited to, set to 0.01 mm. The direction in which the bottom of the heat sink 321 in the embodiment of the present invention extends into the interior of the cage 3 is specifically represented as: extending from the upper surface of the cage 3 to the inner cavity of the cage 3. By cutting the bottom of the heat sink 321, after cutting, the bottom of the heat sink 321 has a cutout 6 (see Figure 4), so that the heat sink 321 is clamped in the second mounting groove 32. It is worth noting that the bottom of the heat sink 321 in the embodiment of the present invention extends into the interior of the cage 3 by a first preset thickness. The first preset thickness in the embodiment of the present invention can be, but is not limited to, set to 0.01 mm.

[0077] In a preferred application scenario, in order to prevent the heat sink 321 from falling off the cage 3, after the heat sink 321 is installed in the second installation slot 32, a buckle 10 (see Figure 4) will be provided on the cage 3 to fix the heat sink 321 on the cage 3. In addition, on the cage 3 provided with the buckle 10, the cage 3 usually has a certain elasticity. When the cage 3 and the shell base 1 are plugged into each other, the heat sink 321 on the cage 3 lifts the heat sink 321 through the fins 12. The cage 3 has a certain elasticity and the heat sink 321 is fixed in the second mounting groove 32 of the cage 3 by the buckle 10 provided on the cage 3. When the fin 12 lifts the heat sink 321, the upper part of the cage 3 will be lifted and deformed within the range of elastic deformation; when the heat sink 321 has completely passed the fin 12, the fin 12 is no longer in contact with the heat sink 321. At this time, the force exerted by the fin 12 is lost, and the heat sink 321 is firmly attached to the heat sink 2 through the buckle 10 and the elastic action of the cage 3.

[0078] In order to achieve a better heat dissipation effect for the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention, after the cage 3 of the embodiment of the present invention is installed on the housing 1 and symmetrically positioned with the housing 1, the heat sink 321 needs to be placed on the heat sink 2, and the heat sink 321 and the heat sink 2 are kept in close contact, so as to transfer the heat inside the optical module to the outside of the optical module as much as possible through heat transfer. Based on this, the size of the cage 3 of the embodiment of the present invention cannot be set too large. On the one hand, it is necessary to ensure that after the cage 3 is inserted into the housing 1, the heat sink 321 and the heat sink 2 can be well fitted, and there should be no gap between the heat sink 321 and the heat sink 2, so as to achieve excellent heat dissipation. On the other hand, since the bottom of the heat sink 321 is provided with a cutout 6, the bottom of the heat sink 321 will extend into the cage 3. During the installation process, it is also necessary to ensure that the heat sink 321 can slide onto the heat sink 2. Based on this, the embodiment of the present invention usually sets the size of the cage 3 to be slightly larger than the size of the shell base 1, so that the cage 3 can be smoothly inserted into the shell base 1; due to the slightly larger size of the cage 3, during the process of inserting the cage 3 into the shell base 1, it is inevitable that the bottom of the heat sink 321 will scratch the heat sink 2, causing force to act on the heat sink 2. During the process of multiple insertion and unlocking of the cage 3 and the shell base 1, it is very easy to cause the heat sink 2 to fall off from the first mounting groove 11, thereby causing the problem of heat dissipation failure in the optical module.

[0079] In order to solve the above-mentioned problem, the fin 12 described in the embodiment of the present invention is higher than the first preset height of the heat sink 2 (refer to Figure 7, the height of the fin 12 in Figure 7 is slightly higher than the height of the heat sink 2, and the visual difference is not too large). During the installation and disassembly of the cage 3, the heat sink 321 is lifted by the fin 12 to prevent the heat sink 321 from exerting force on the heat sink 2, causing the heat sink 2 to loosen.

[0080] The embodiment of the present invention not only uses the fins 12 to position the heat sink 2 and fix the heat sink 2. It also sets the height of the fins 12 to exceed the first preset height of the heat sink 2. During the installation of the cage 3, when the heat sink 321 on the cage 3 passes through the fins 12, the fins 12 lift the heat sink 321, so that the heat sink 321 is raised, so that the heat sink 321 does not contact the heat sink 2 as much as possible, and then during the installation of the heat sink 321, the heat sink 2 will not be affected by the heat sink 321, and the heat sink 2 can be prevented from being loosened due to force. It is worth noting that the fins 12 of the embodiment of the present invention are higher than the first preset height of the heat sink 2. For example, it can be but not limited to being 0.1 mm higher than the heat sink, so as to avoid the heat sink 2 from exerting force on the heat sink 2 by the heat sink 321, causing the heat sink 2 to loosen.

[0081] As shown in FIG9 , in order to stably install the heat sink 2 in the first installation groove 11, an overflow glue groove 111 is provided on the bottom surface of the first installation groove 11 in an embodiment of the present invention, and the heat sink 2 is mounted on the overflow glue groove 111. In a specific application scenario, the embodiment of the present invention sets a grid-shaped overflow glue groove 111 in the first installation groove 11, and the overflow glue grooves 111 of each grid, for example, can be but not limited to drawing n×m (where n≥2, and m≥2) grids on the bottom surface of the first installation groove 11, and setting grooves along the edge lines of each grid, thereby forming overflow glue grooves 111. The overflow glue grooves 111 are actually formed by the grooves on the edges of each grid being interconnected. When the heat sink 2 needs to be installed in the first installation groove 1 1, the overflow glue groove 111 is filled with solder paste or glue. When the heat sink 2 is assembled into the first mounting groove 11, the inner surface of the heat sink 2 squeezes the solder paste or glue, so that the solder paste or glue flows along the overflow glue groove 111, and the gas in the overflow glue groove 111 is discharged. Then, the heat sink 2 is fixed in the first mounting groove 11 by welding or high-temperature curing, so as to reduce the problem of welding or high-temperature curing failure caused by the presence of air between the shell base 1 and the heat sink 2, thereby greatly improving the yield of the process.

[0082] It is worth noting that when solder paste is used to fill the space between the heat sink 2 of the embodiment of the present invention and the overflow glue groove 111 in the first installation groove 11, the heat sink 2 is mounted in the overflow glue groove 111 coated with solder paste, and the solder paste is melted by high temperature, so that the solder paste flows along the edge of the groove, so that the solder paste is evenly filled in the overflow glue groove 111. After the temperature drops, the heat sink 2 is fixed at the overflow glue groove 111 of the first installation groove 11 by the solder paste; when watering is used to fill the space between the heat sink 2 of the embodiment of the present invention and the overflow glue groove 111 in the first installation groove 11, the heat sink 2 is mounted in the overflow glue groove 111 coated with glue, and the fluidity of the glue causes the glue to flow along the edge of the groove. After the glue is evenly filled in the overflow glue groove 111, the glue is cured by heating, and then the glue fixes the heat sink 2 at the overflow glue groove 111 of the first installation groove 11.

[0083] As shown in Figures 10 to 12, the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention also includes a pull ring 4; the pull ring 4 includes a pair of sliding plates 41, and a first limiting protrusion 411 is provided on the inner wall of the sliding plate 41, and the first limiting protrusion 411 extends toward the inner side of the sliding plate 41; the shell base 1 includes a first shell 13, and the first shell 13 includes two side plates 131, and a long groove 1311 is provided on the outer wall of the side plate 131, and one end of the long groove 1311 is provided with a sliding groove 13111 along the axial direction of the first shell 13; the sliding plate 41 is arranged in the long groove 1311, so that the first limiting protrusion 411 can be movably arranged in the sliding groove 13111 to realize the assembly of the pull ring 4 and the first shell 13.

[0084] As shown in Figures 10 to 12, the pull ring 4 of the embodiment of the present invention includes a pair of sliding plates 41, the two movable plates are symmetrically arranged, and a first limiting protrusion 411 is provided on the inner wall of each movable plate; the first shell 13 includes two side plates 131, and a long groove 1311 is provided on the outer wall of each side plate 131, and one end of the long groove 1311 is provided with a sliding groove 13111 along the axial direction of the first shell 13. When the sliding plate 41 is set in the long groove 1311 of the side plate 131, by setting the first limiting protrusion 411 in the long groove 1311, the first limiting protrusion 411 is movably set in the sliding groove 13111, thereby realizing the connection between the sliding plate 41 and the shell base 1. During actual application, in order to insert the first limiting protrusion 411 on the sliding plate 41 into the slide groove 13111 on the long groove 1311, the embodiment of the present invention can be but not limited to setting a corresponding notch at the lower end of the slide groove 13111, connecting the notch with the lower end of the slide groove 13111, and sliding the first limiting protrusion 411 into the slide groove 13111 along the notch, and then assembling the sliding plate 41 into the long groove 1311 of the side plate 131 to realize the assembly of the pull ring 4 and the first shell 13.

[0085] As shown in Figures 11 and 12 , the rear portion of the sliding plate 41 in this embodiment of the present invention is provided with a second, vertically upward, limiting protrusion 412. The housing base 1 also includes a second housing 14, which is disposed on the first housing 13. The side panels 131 of the first housing 13 are provided with first limiting grooves 141, within which the second limiting protrusions 412 are disposed, facilitating the positioning of the second housing 14 on the first housing 13 via the sliding plate 41. It is worth noting that the airflow grooves 15 and first mounting grooves 11 described above in this embodiment of the present invention are actually provided on the second housing 14 (see Figure 9 ).

[0086] As shown in Figure 11, the tail of the sliding plate 41 of the embodiment of the present invention is also provided with a second vertically upward limiting protrusion 412, and the shell base 1 also includes a second shell 14, which is arranged on the first shell 13, and a first limiting groove 141 is provided on the side panel of the second shell 14. The first limiting groove 141 matches the second limiting protrusion 412, that is, the first limiting groove 141 is also provided vertically upward. When the sliding plate 41 of the pull ring 4 is connected to the first shell 13, the second limiting protrusion 412 on the sliding plate 41 is inserted into the first limiting groove 141 to connect the pull ring 4, the first shell 13 and the second shell 14 are connected together.

[0087] Furthermore, as shown in Figure 11, the tail of the sliding plate 41 in the embodiment of the present invention is provided with an unlocking protrusion 413 along the axial direction of the sliding plate 41, and the other end of the long groove 1311 is provided with an arc-shaped groove 13112, and the unlocking protrusion 413 is arranged in the arc-shaped groove 13112; metal springs are respectively provided on the inner walls on both sides of the cage 3, one end of the metal spring is connected to the inner wall of the cage 3, and the metal spring is inclined at a preset angle to the inner wall of the cage 3; the cage 3 is sleeved on the outer side of the shell base 1 so as to lock and unlock the optical module through the metal spring and the unlocking protrusion 413.

[0088] To reset and unlock the optical module according to the embodiment of the present invention, the rear end of the sliding plate 41 is provided with an unlocking protrusion 413 (see FIG. 11 , not labeled therein) extending along the axis of the sliding plate 41. The unlocking protrusion 413 is arched, and the other end of the elongated slot 1311 in the first housing 13 is provided with an arcuate slot 13112 (see FIG. 11 , not labeled therein) that matches the unlocking protrusion 413. When the sliding plate 41 is mounted on the elongated slot 1311 of the first housing 13, the unlocking protrusion 413 at the rear end of the sliding plate 41 is pushed into the arcuate slot 13112 to secure the sliding plate 41. Metal springs (see FIG. 1 , not labeled therein) are provided on the inner walls of the cage 3 on either side. One end of the metal springs is connected to the inner wall of the cage 3, and the metal springs are inclined at a predetermined angle relative to the inner wall of the cage 3.

[0089] After the unlocking protrusion 413 at the tail of the sliding plate 41 is pushed into the arc groove 13112 for fixation, the cage 3 is sleeved on the outside of the shell base 1, and the cage 3 and the shell base 1 are inserted into each other. During the insertion process, under the action of the side surface of the first shell 13, the metal spring is in a state of being close to the side surface of the first shell 13. When the metal spring reaches the unlocking protrusion 413, the metal spring bounces up and is then clamped on the unlocking protrusion 413, thereby locking the pull ring 4, the first shell 13 and the second shell 14 through the cage 3.

[0090] It is worth noting that in order to lock the pull ring 4, the first shell 13, and the second shell 14 via the metal spring on the cage 3, the end of the pull ring 4 in this embodiment of the present invention is concave inward. This allows the metal spring on the cage 3 to spring up and lock the metal spring on the unlocking protrusion 413 when it passes by. When unlocking is required, the sliding plate 41 is pulled, causing the first limiting protrusion 411 on the sliding plate 41 to move along the sliding groove 13111, thereby pulling the unlocking protrusion 413 away from the arcuate groove 13112. At the same time, when the unlocking protrusion 413 of the pull ring 4 is pulled away from the arcuate groove 13112, the unlocking protrusion 413 separates from the metal spring, and the pull ring 4 is then removed from the interior below the sliding groove 13111, thereby achieving the separation of the pull ring 4, the first shell 13, and the second shell 14.

[0091] It is worth noting that in order to facilitate the application of force to the pull ring 4, a handle is also provided on the sliding plate 41 of the embodiment of the present invention. A pair of sliding plates 41 on the pull ring 4 are respectively arranged on both sides of the handle. The handle can facilitate the user to apply force so as to reset and unlock the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention.

[0092] In order to achieve the photoelectric conversion of the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention, as shown in FIG13 , the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention further includes a photoelectric component 5, which is disposed in the first housing 13 and includes at least two sets of optical adapters 51; wherein the two sets of optical adapters 51 are disposed in two layers, one above the other.

[0093] A cavity 132 is provided at the head of the first shell 13 . A support member 1321 is provided in the cavity 132 . At least two groups of bracket cavities 13211 are provided on the support member 1321 . The optical adapter 51 is provided in the bracket cavities 13211 .

[0094] In a specific application scenario, as shown in Figures 13-15, the optoelectronic assembly 5 within the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention includes at least two sets of optical adapters 51, and the two sets of optical adapters 51 are arranged in two layers. To secure the optical adapters 51 arranged in two layers within the optical module, the head of the first shell 13 of the embodiment of the present invention is provided with a cavity 132, and a support member 1321 is provided within the cavity 132. The support member 1321 is provided with at least two sets of upper and lower bracket cavities 13211 to facilitate the placement of the optical adapters 51 within the bracket cavities 13211. In a specific application scenario, the two sides of the optical adapter's positioning ring are processed into a flat shape by cutting. The corresponding two sides of the bracket cavity 13211 of the support member 1321 are arranged to match the flat shapes on both sides of the positioning ring. When the adapter's positioning ring is inserted into the bracket cavity 13211, the flat shape on the positioning ring and the two side walls of the bracket cavity 13211 form a limit, preventing the optical adapter 51 from rotating during use or cleaning, which may cause optical fiber twisting and damage. Referring to FIG14 , since the optical transceiver assembly includes an optical transceiver end and an optical receiving end, each group of bracket inner cavities includes two cavity structures. It can be understood that the two cavity structures located in the upper layer in FIG14 are one group of bracket inner cavities, and the two cavity structures located in the lower layer are another group of bracket inner cavities. In addition, the optoelectronic assembly 5 in the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention is mainly used to realize photoelectric conversion. The optoelectronic assembly 5 in the embodiment of the present invention includes at least two optical transceiver assemblies. The optical transceiver assembly includes an optical receiving assembly and an optical transmitting assembly, a PCB circuit board and a DSP chip. The optical transceiver assembly and the DSP chip are connected through the PCB circuit board to form an optoelectronic assembly 5 for photoelectric conversion. After the optical transceiver assembly and the DSP chip are mounted on the PCB circuit board, the PCB circuit board needs to be mounted in the first shell 13. In a specific application scenario, a heat dissipation platform is set in the first shell 13, and then the PCB circuit board with the optical transceiver assembly and the DSP chip mounted thereon is mounted in the first shell 13.

[0095] In addition, in order to further dissipate heat within the housing 1, a plurality of rib-like protrusions are provided on the lower surface of the first shell 13 of the embodiment of the present invention (see FIG. 16 , which are not marked therein), with corresponding spacing between adjacent rib-like protrusions, and a grid hole is provided on the cage 3 (the shape of the grid hole can be, but is not limited to, circular, square, or elongated). By sleeved on the housing 1, the inner wall of the cage 3 cooperates with the rib-like protrusions to form a heat dissipation duct at the bottom, thereby better dissipating heat from the interior of the optical module. It is worth noting that, as shown in FIG. 16 , the heat dissipation flow direction of the heat dissipation duct of the embodiment of the present invention is shown. Heat is dissipated through the duct 21 provided in the heat sink 2, and the heat dissipation duct formed by the rib-like protrusions provided on the lower surface of the cage 3 and the lower surface of the first shell 13, thereby transferring heat from the optical module to the outside of the optical module.

[0096] In addition, since the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention adopts an upper and lower stacking arrangement, when the air duct 21 in the heat sink 2 is used for heat dissipation, the stacking design will block the air inlet of the heat sink 2, thereby making the air flow of the heat sink 2 not smooth. In order to ensure the smoothness of the air inlet at the air inlet of the heat sink 2, the embodiment of the present invention is provided with an air flow groove 15 on the second shell 14 opposite the air inlet of the heat sink 2. By setting the air inlet of the heat sink 2 to be blocked as the air flow groove 15, the air can smoothly enter the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2, and the heat in the optical module can be smoothly discharged from the optical module, thereby achieving the purpose of cooling the optical module.

[0097] The OSFP-XD optical module of an embodiment of the present invention includes a housing 1, a heat sink 2 and a cage 3. An air duct 21 is provided on the heat sink 2, and the heat sink 2 provided with the air duct 21 is installed in the first mounting groove 11 of the housing 1; a grid through hole 31 is provided at one end of the cage 3. When the cage 3 is sleeved on the housing 1, the air duct 21 is connected to the grid through hole 31 to form a channel for dissipating heat from the optical module; in an embodiment of the present invention, a plurality of rib-like protrusions are provided at the bottom of the housing 1 (i.e., the first shell 13), and there are gaps between adjacent rib-like protrusions. When the cage 3 is sleeved on the housing 1, another set of heat dissipation air ducts is formed between the inner wall of the cage 3 and the rib-like protrusions, and then the heat generated inside the optical module is discharged through the formed heat dissipation air ducts, thereby improving the heat dissipation performance of the optical module. In addition, the bottom surface of the first mounting groove 11 of the embodiment of the present invention is provided with a glue overflow groove 111, which mainly plays the role of glue overflow and exhaust, so that when the first shell 13 is fixed to the heat sink 2, failures such as hollowing are avoided, and the yield of the process is greatly improved; by arranging at least one fin 12 in the first mounting groove 11, a protrusion 121 is provided at one end of the fin 12, and the protrusion 121 is suspended on one end of the fin 12 so that the protrusion 121 and the bottom surface of the first mounting groove 11 form a clamping notch 122, which can not only determine the installation position of the heat sink 2, but also protect the heat sink 2 from falling off. In addition, the height of the fin 12 exceeds the height of the heat sink 2. When the cage 3 is sleeved on the shell base 1 and the cage 3 is inserted into the shell base 1, the heat sink 321 on the cage 3 can be prevented from exerting force on the heat sink 2, thereby causing the heat sink 2 to loosen under force.

[0098] Example 2:

[0099] Embodiment 2 of the present invention further provides a method for installing an OSFP-XD optical module. The method is applicable to the installation of the OSFP-XD optical module described in Embodiment 1. As shown in FIG17 , the method includes:

[0100] Step 201: Install the heat sink 2 into the first mounting groove 11 of the housing 1. The housing 1 of the OSFP-XD optical module according to the embodiment of the present invention is provided with at least one airflow groove 15. During installation, the airflow groove 15 needs to be aligned with the air inlet of the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2 (arranged relative to each other) so that the airflow groove 15 is connected to the air duct 21 in the heat sink 2, forming a channel for dissipating heat for the OSFP-XD optical module according to the embodiment of the present invention, thereby ensuring that the OSFP-XD optical module operates under normal operating temperature conditions.

[0101] Step 202 : aligning the air inlets of one or more air ducts 21 in the heat sink 2 with the air flow slots 15 , so as to dissipate heat from the optical module through the air ducts 21 and the air flow slots 15 .

[0102] The shell base 1 of the OSFP-XD optical module of the embodiment of the present invention is provided with a first mounting groove 11, and a glue overflow groove 111 is provided in the first mounting groove 11. The heat sink 2 is mounted in the glue overflow groove 111 of the first mounting groove 11. By providing solder paste or glue in the glue overflow groove 111, the heat sink 2 can be firmly installed in the first mounting groove 11. The installation of the heat sink 2 and the first mounting groove 11 has been described in detail above and will not be repeated here.

[0103] After the heat sink 2 is installed in the first installation groove 11, the cage 3 is inserted into the housing 1 so that the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2 is connected to the grille through-holes on the cage 3. The air duct 21 on the heat sink 2 and the grille through-holes form a complete ventilation system to dissipate heat from the optical module. It is worth noting that in the actual application of the embodiment of the present invention, after the housing 1, the cage 3, and the pull ring 4 are connected to form the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention, an external fan is usually installed outside the system of the optical module, and the external fan is connected to the grille through-holes 31 on the cage 3. The air in the optical module is extracted from the optical module by the external fan, thereby extracting the heat generated in the optical module from the optical module through the design of the air duct 21 in the optical module.

[0104] As shown in FIG18 , the OSFP-XD optical module according to an embodiment of the present invention further includes a cage, on which a heat sink is provided. The installation method includes:

[0105] Step 301: Insert the OSFP-XD optical module into the first mounting slot 11 of the housing 1. The fins 12 of the OSFP-XD optical module lift the heat sink 321 on the cage 3, thereby protecting the end surface of the heat sink 2 from colliding with the end surface of the interference portion of the heat sink 321 during the insertion process.

[0106] In combination with Example 1, a heat sink 321 is provided on the cage 3 of the embodiment of the present invention. During the process of plugging the cage 3 and the shell base 1, in order to prevent the heat sink 321 from exerting force on the heat sink 2 provided in the first mounting groove 11, causing the heat sink 2 to become loose, thereby causing the heat sink 2 to lose its heat dissipation effect; the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention is provided with fins 12, and the height of the fins 12 is higher than that of the heat sink 2. During the process of plugging the shell base 1 and the cage 3, the heat sink 321 on the cage 3 is lifted up by the fins 12. In addition, a protrusion 121 is provided in the fin 12, and the protrusion 121 of the fin 12 is inserted into the air duct 21 of the heat sink 2. The heat sink 2 is fixed in the first mounting groove 11 by the protrusion 121 of the fin 12, which can not only determine the installation position of the heat sink 2, but also protect the heat sink 2 from falling off.

[0107] Step 302 : After the OSFP-XD optical module is inserted into the housing 1 , the fins 12 are released from contact with the abutment portions, and the abutment portions are tightly abutted against the surface of the heat sink 2 due to the elastic force of the housing 1 .

[0108] In particular, during the installation of the optical module of the embodiment of the present invention, the cage 3 needs to be sleeved on the shell base 1, and the height of the fins 12 is higher than the heat sink 2. During the installation of the cage 3, the heat sink 321 on the cage 3 is lifted by the fins 12 to avoid the heat sink 321 from contacting and exerting force with the heat sink 2, thereby avoiding the heat sink 2 from falling off from the first installation groove 11 due to the force exerted by the heat sink 321 on the heat sink 2 during the insertion of the cage 3 and the shell base 1. This can effectively avoid the problem of heat dissipation disorder in the optical module caused by the falling of the heat sink 2; when the heat sink 321 as a whole passes over the fins 12, the heat sink 321 falls under the action of gravity, so that the heat sink 321 is tightly attached to the heat sink 2, and then the heat dissipation of the optical module is jointly performed by the heat sink 2 and the heat sink 321.

[0109] In actual production, the heat sink 2 and the housing 1 can be first welded together by a reflow soldering process. When the assembled module is inserted into the cage as a whole, the fins 12 of the module lift up the heat sink 321.

[0110] Example 3:

[0111] In accordance with Example 1, Example 3 of the present invention further provides a limit card 7. The limit card 7 serves as a small structure within the optical module to constrain the optical fiber within the optical module of the present invention within the range of the limit card. Specifically, as shown in Figures 19-22, the optical module of the present invention includes a first optical transceiver assembly 8 and a second optical transceiver assembly 9. The first optical transceiver assembly 8 is connected to a first optical fiber 81, and the second optical transceiver assembly 9 is connected to a second optical fiber 91. The first optical transceiver assembly 8 and the second optical transceiver assembly 9 both have an optical adapter 51, which is disposed on a support member 1321. The optical adapter 51 of the first optical transceiver assembly 8 is connected to the first optical fiber 81, and the optical adapter 51 of the second optical transceiver assembly 9 is connected to the second optical fiber 91.

[0112] In combination with Example 1, the support member 1321 is disposed within the housing 1, and the first optical transceiver assembly 8 and the second optical transceiver assembly 9 are both disposed on the support member 1321. The limit card 7 includes a fixing portion 71 and a claw portion 72, one end of the fixing portion 71 being connected to the claw portion 72, and the fixing portion 71 being connected to a side surface of the support member 1321 to fix the limit card 7 to the support 1321; the first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 are respectively disposed within the claw portion 72, so that the first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 are constrained within the housing 1 by the claw portion 72.

[0113] Specifically, the upper end of the support member 1321 is provided with an upper mounting groove extending toward the lower surface of the support member 1321, and the lower end of the support member 1321 is provided with a lower mounting groove extending toward the upper surface of the support member 1321. The first optical transceiver assembly 8 is disposed in the upper mounting groove, and the second optical transceiver assembly 9 is disposed in the lower mounting groove. Because each optical transceiver assembly (the first optical transceiver assembly 8 and / or the second optical transceiver assembly 9) includes an optical transmitting assembly and an optical receiving assembly, the upper mounting groove in this embodiment of the present invention includes two bracket inner cavities 13211, and the lower mounting groove also includes two bracket inner cavities 13211.

[0114] As shown in Figures 19 to 22, the multi-channel OSFP-XD optical module of the present invention includes a housing 1, a support member 1321 and a limit card 7; the support member 1321 is configured as an upper and lower two-layer structure (i.e., an upper mounting groove and a lower mounting groove), and the corresponding first optical transceiver assembly 8 is arranged in the upper mounting groove, and the second optical transceiver assembly 9 is arranged in the lower mounting groove to increase the density of the optical module of the present invention; a limit card 7 is provided in the optical module, and the limit card 7 includes a fixing portion 71 and a claw portion 72, and the fixing portion 71 is connected to the side of the support member 1321 to fix the limit card 7 on the support member 1321, and the first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 are respectively arranged in the claw portion 72 to constrain the first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 in the housing 1 through the claw portion 72.

[0115] The present invention is a high-density optical module. A limit card 7 is provided in the optical module. The first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 in the optical module are constrained in the shell 1 by the claw portion 72 on the limit card 7, thereby avoiding the pulling of the optical fiber at the optical transceiver assembly (including the first optical transceiver assembly 8 and the second optical transceiver assembly 9), resulting in a messy distribution of the optical fibers, and further causing the problem of the optical fiber being stuck during the installation process.

[0116] In order to explain the complete details of the embodiment of the present invention, the details of the embodiment of the present invention will be explained in detail below. Furthermore, as shown in Figure 22, the claw portion 72 includes a pressing plate 721 and a stop plate 722; the two ends of the pressing plate 721 are respectively connected to a stop plate 722, and the first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 are respectively arranged under the pressing plate 721, so as to be constrained by the stop plates 722 at both ends of the pressing plate 721, so as to gather the first optical fiber 81 and the second optical fiber 91 into the claw portion 72.

[0117] As shown in Figure 22, the limit card 7 of the embodiment of the present invention includes a fixing portion 71 and a claw portion 72, and the claw portion 72 includes a pressing plate 721 and a stop plate 722; the first optical transceiver assembly 8 and the second optical transceiver assembly 9 of the embodiment of the present invention are respectively in the upper installation groove and the lower installation groove. Since the first optical transceiver assembly 8 is arranged in the upper installation groove, the first optical transceiver assembly 8 is connected to the first optical fiber 81.
