AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing chucks allow dust particles and abrasive powder to enter the interior, leading to malfunction of the master jaw, and expose grease to centrifugal forces causing scattering, necessitating frequent maintenance.

Method used

A chuck design featuring slide grooves sealed by a front cover and seal members, with a seal member on the outer circumferential surface and a dust seal and X-ring to prevent dust entry and grease scattering, combined with a solid lubricant coating to maintain lubricity.

Benefits of technology

Prevents dust entry and grease scattering, ensuring smooth operation and reducing maintenance needs, suitable for clean environments like semiconductor polishing.

Abstract

Provided is a chuck that can prevent entry of dust such as abrasive powder and can also keep grease or the like from being scattered to the outside. The present invention provides a chuck that comprises a chuck body, a plurality of master jaws, a plurality of clamp jaws, a front cover, and a seal member. Each of a plurality of slide grooves is provided on a front side of the chuck body so as to extend from a center part to an outer circumferential surface in a radial direction that is orthogonal to an axis of rotation. The master jaws are fitted into the slide grooves so as to be capable of sliding therein. The clamp jaws are connected to the master jaws and grip a workpiece. The front cover is installed so as to seal the front side of the chuck body. The seal member seals the outer circumferential surface side of the slide grooves.
