Embodiment Construction

[0012] As mentioned above, tag codes may be subject to various restrictions. For example, a tag code may hold a limited amount of information based on the size of the tag code and the density of the data features of the tag code. Also, given the small physical size of common tag codes, tag codes can be difficult to read unless placed close to the scanning sensor.

[0013] Accordingly, embodiments disclosed herein relate to active tag codes that change as a function of time. Thus, the amount of information encoded by such a tag code can be increased by increasing the number of different data frames (image and / or audio depending on the type of tag) presented to the receiving device, rather than by increasing the tag code The feature density on any one of the static views increases. This may allow the data features on the displayed image of the active tag code to remain of a size sufficient to be read at a relatively large distance from the image sensor without requiring the us...

Abstract

Embodiments disclosed herein involve the use of active tag codes that change over time to incorporate greater amounts of data into tag codes than similarly configured static tag codes. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a method of presenting an active tag code to a receiving device. The method includes presenting at a first time a first portion of an active tag code that encodes a first subset of information of a set of information encoded in the active tag code. The method further includes presenting at a subsequent second time a second portion of the active tag code encoding a second subset of information of the set of information encoded in the active tag code.

Description

Background technique [0001] Label codes such as barcodes, QR codes, etc. are widely used in consumer markets, manufacturing settings, and other settings for providing information about a product, where the label code for the product can be electronically read and located with the label information associated with the code to obtain information. However, based on the size of the tag code and the density of the tag code's data features (eg, squares, rectangles, etc.), the tag code can hold a limited amount of information. Furthermore, given the small physical size of typical tag codes, tags can be difficult to read unless placed in close proximity to a scanning sensor. The use of high-resolution scanners (such as high-definition cameras or laser scanners) can help overcome the difficulty of reading label codes at a distance. However, such equipment can be highly engineered and expensive. Contents of the invention [0002] Embodiments disclosed herein involve the use of acti...
