Embodiment Construction

[0028] Since currently available fraud detection systems are flawed by their inability to capture the rapidly changing nature of buyer-merchant behavior and the complex social network-like nature, a fraud detection system that provides a dynamically evolving graph of merchant relationships would be ideal and the fraudulent Detection systems provide the basis for a wide range of fraud detection applications, such as the ability to predict the likelihood that a given account will transact with a given merchant. According to an embodiment disclosed herein, this result can be determined by figure 1 The fraud detection system 1000 shown is obtained.

[0029] turn to figure 1 , the fraud detection system 1000 includes a client device 101 in communication with a transaction server 102 . A client may submit a transaction request 100 from a client device 101 to a transaction server 102 . Client device 101 is any network-connected device through which a client may submit a transactio...

Abstract

A system and method for enhanced detection of fraudulent electronic transactions are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system uses the ongoing transaction flow to build and maintain a dynamically evolving merchant relationship graph. When a proposed transaction is submitted to the system, the system calculates the predicted likelihood that a given account will conduct a transaction with these characteristics with a given merchant. The graph is used to compute transitive associativity between merchants that can be indirectly associated with each other, and aggregate associativity when there is a multi-path relationship between two merchants.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 018,250, filed June 27, 2014. Priority to this provisional application is expressly claimed and the entire disclosure of that application is incorporated herein by reference for all purposes. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to graph-based relationships, and more particularly, but not exclusively, to enhanced detection of fraudulent electronic transactions based on relationship graphs. Background technique [0004] Commercial organizations and law enforcement agencies have a vital interest in determining whether some attempted financial transactions are fraudulent. Fraud in this context means that the buyer does not have valid authority to use the funds involved in the transaction. As an example, the purchaser may be using a stolen identity and / or using funds (or privileges) that would normally belong ...
