Problems solved by technology

Although some prior art systems combine two or more of these braking systems into a single brake, such brakes are not capable of accurately applying braking force for each task
So, for example, a brake may provide both operational braking and emergency braking, but the brake cannot consistently apply accurate braking force and cannot consistently apply accurate emergency braking force

Embodiment 500

[0032] Embodiment 500 replaces the double-acting piston 130 with two single-acting pistons 530a, 530b, and replaces the valve unit 150 with a valve unit 550, the piston 530a comprising a hydraulic cylinder 532a and a piston 533a at least partially housed inside the hydraulic cylinder 532a , the piston 530b comprises a hydraulic cylinder 532b and a piston 533b at least partially accommodated inside the hydraulic cylinder 532b, and the valve unit 550 is adapted to actuate the piston 533a in the release direction 133a and actuate the piston 533b in the engagement direction 133b. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that, in use, the operated pistons 530a, 530b (operated by the valve unit 550 ) collectively provide the function of operating the piston 130 .

[0033] Figure 6 shown using the above-discussed Figure 5 The guide rail brake 500 is shown in the elevator system 600 . In addition to the guide rail brake 500, the elevator system 600 includes an elevator car 601 (wh...

Abstract

A hydraulic-boosted rail brake (100) for use with an elevator having a guide rail (15), comprising: a braking plate (110) having friction material (112), the braking plate (110) being selectively movable relative to the guide rail (15); a spring package (120) in communication with the braking plate (110), the spring package (120) biasing the friction material (112) to interact with the guide rail (15) whereby causing braking; at least one hydraulic cylinder (132, 532a, 532b); at least one piston (133, 533a, 533b) housed at least partially inside the at least one hydraulic cylinder (132, 532a, 532b), the piston being in communication with the braking plate (110) and selectively: (a) movable in a release direction (133a) to diminish or overcome force from the spring package (120); and (b) movable in an engage direction (133b) to supplement the force from the spring package (120); and a brake controller (140) selectively causing the piston (133, 533a, 533b) to move in the release direction (133a) and in the engage direction (133b).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to hydraulically assisted guide rail brakes for use with elevators having guide rails. Background technique [0002] Typically, an elevator includes three separate braking systems: a braking system for operating the brakes to hold the elevator car at the various floors, and a braking system for slowing the car when its upward or downward speed is excessive The braking system for emergency braking, and the braking system for safety braking to stop the car if free fall would otherwise occur. Although some prior art systems combine two or more of these braking systems into a single brake, such brakes are not capable of accurately applying braking force for each task. Thus, for example, a brake may provide both operational braking and emergency braking, but the brake may not consistently apply the correct braking force and may not consistently apply the correct emergency braking force. [0003] The present disclosure general...
