Abstract

The present invention provides a broadcast storm control system and method. Said broadcast storm control system comprises a plurality of ports and a processing module, wherein each port comprising an arithmometer used for taking count of the number of broadcast packets which are received in a unit time, and a corresponding discarding marker which depends on enumerated data and an ingress rate of the port. The processing module receives a packet from a special port out of these ports, and then discards or transmits the packet to at least one port among these ports, according to the discarding marker corresponding to the special port. The broadcast storm control system and method in accordance with the present invention is capable of preventing broadcast packets from all the ports being stopped transmitting.
