Description

Technical Field The present invention relates to cosmetic compositions. In particular, it relates to compositions for cleaning hair and methods of cleaning hair using the compositions. Background Art Oily scalp and hair are becoming an annoying scalp problem worldwide. People often use oil-control shampoos to remove dirt and sebum from the scalp.

[0003] There are many shampoos that are developed to cleanse the hair and scalp.

[0004] For example, US9018150B1 discloses a cleaning composition comprising from about 6% to about 20% of at least one nonionic surfactant; from about 3% to about 10% of at least one amphoteric surfactant; from about 2% to about 8% of at least one anionic surfactant; and from about 0.1% to about 5% of at least one cationic conditioning surfactant, a cationic conditioning amine, or a combination thereof; wherein the amount of the nonionic surfactant present in the final composition is greater than the amount of the amphoteric surfactant, and based on the weight percentage of each surfactant in the final composition, the ratio of the nonionic surfactant (a) to the anionic surfactant (c) is at least about 1.9 times that of the anionic surfactant.

[0005] However, with most commercially available shampoos, consumers are not satisfied with the long-lasting cleansing between washes. To achieve good long-lasting cleansing performance, most commercially available shampoos contain large amounts of surfactants and exfoliants as cleansing agents to remove stubborn sebum and dead cells. Large amounts of surfactants and exfoliants in shampoos bring about irritation problems that cause dryness, itching, redness, and even stinging sensations on the scalp.

[0006] Therefore, consumers are still seeking optimal cleansing compositions that provide adequate long-lasting cleansing while reducing scalp irritation issues. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It was therefore an object of the present invention to develop compositions for cleaning the hair which provide a sufficient and long-lasting cleaning effect and which at the same time cause fewer irritation problems to the scalp.

[0008] Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for cleaning hair.

[0009] Thus, according to a first aspect, the present invention provides a composition for cleansing hair comprising: a) at least one hydroxy acid; b) at least one nonionic surfactant selected from alkyl (poly)glycosides; c) at least one cationic surfactant selected from fatty amidoamines and salts thereof corresponding to the following formula (I): RCONHR″N(R′)2 (I) wherein R is a linear or branched non-cyclic alkyl or alkenyl group containing 16 to 22 carbon atoms; R" is a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing less than 6 carbon atoms, and R, which may be the same or different, represents a hydrocarbon group containing less than 6 carbon atoms; and d) Solvent.

[0010] According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a method for cleansing hair comprising applying to the hair a composition as described above and subsequently rinsing the hair with water after any exposure period.

[0011] The inventors have found that compositions according to the invention can provide a long-lasting cleansing effect with reduced scalp irritation.

[0012] Other objects and features, aspects and advantages of the invention will appear even more clearly on reading the detailed description and examples which follow.
