[0001] The present invention belongs to the technical field of flame retardants, and relates to a halogen-free intrinsically flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane material and a preparation method thereof. The material is obtained by a chemical structure modification method, and has the characteristics of high flame retardant efficiency, good durability, transparency, non-toxicity, low smoke, etc., and provides a new direction for the development of new material technology. Background Art
[0002] Under the background of increasingly stringent environmental regulations around the world, the research and application of environmentally friendly materials are particularly important. As a new type of environmentally friendly material, halogen-free intrinsic flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane material is gradually gaining widespread attention from all walks of life. Its unique flame retardant properties and environmental characteristics not only respond to the global call for reducing the use of harmful substances, but also provide high-performance material options for the modern industrial field.
[0003] With the rapid development of industries such as electronics, construction, and automobiles, the requirements for material performance are becoming increasingly stringent. These industries not only require materials to have excellent flame retardant properties to ensure safety, but also require materials to have good processing performance and environmental protection characteristics. Halogen-free intrinsic flame retardant waterborne polyurethane materials have won wide recognition in the market due to their outstanding performance in this regard.
[0004] Although traditional flame retardant materials have met the needs of the market to a certain extent, they still have many deficiencies in terms of flame retardant effect, environmental protection and processing performance. Therefore, through technological innovation, the development of halogen-free intrinsic flame retardant waterborne polyurethane materials with higher performance will not only help solve the problems facing the current market, but also promote the progress and development of the entire field of materials science.
[0005] As a high-performance environmentally friendly material, waterborne polyurethane materials have been widely used in many fields with their unique advantages. With water as the main solvent, it significantly reduces the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC), thereby reducing the pollution pressure on the environment. This feature makes it an ideal choice in line with modern environmental protection concepts. With its multiple advantages such as environmental protection, safety, weather resistance and adhesion, waterborne polyurethane materials have become a high-performance material that has attracted much attention in the market today. With the continuous advancement of science and technology and the popularization of environmental protection concepts, waterborne polyurethane materials are expected to demonstrate their excellent performance in more fields and contribute to the sustainable development of society.
[0006] In the research and development and application of flame retardant materials, flame retardant elements and structural design are two crucial aspects. Flame retardant elements, such as phosphorus, nitrogen, silicon, boron, etc., each have a unique flame retardant mechanism, and they improve the flame retardant properties of materials in different ways. Phosphorus can promote the dehydration of materials into carbon during the combustion process, forming a stable carbon layer, thereby isolating the transfer of oxygen and heat. Nitrogen mainly releases non-combustible gases such as nitrogen during combustion, effectively reducing the concentration of combustible gases and playing a role in inhibiting the spread of flames.
[0007] Intrinsic flame retardancy is a chemical modification method that introduces flame retardant elements or groups into the polyurethane molecular chain through chemical reactions, thereby achieving intrinsic flame retardancy of the material. The key to this method is to accurately control the content and distribution of flame retardant elements to ensure the maximum flame retardant effect. Through chemical reactions such as copolymerization, grafting, and cross-linking, the flame retardant components can be effectively and tightly combined with the polyurethane matrix, thereby improving the overall flame retardant properties of the material.
[0008] CN 110483735 A discloses a method for preparing a halogen-free intrinsic flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane. First, phosphorus oxychloride and pentaerythritol are reacted to prepare an intermediate product having a diphosphoryl chloride functional group. Then, the intermediate product is reacted with diglycolamine and other substances to prepare a small molecule flame retardant containing phosphorus and nitrogen flame retardant elements. Finally, the small molecule flame retardant is used as a hard segment chain extender and reacted with polyether polyol, isophorone diisocyanate, 2,2-dimethylol propionic acid and other substances to prepare a halogen-free intrinsic flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane. The present invention prepares a reactive halogen-free intrinsic flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane by using a halogen-free flame retardant as a reaction substance. The flame retardant effect is good, the synthesis method is simple, but the ideal flame retardant effect can only be achieved under the condition of a certain amount of flame retardant. Excessive addition will affect the mechanical properties of the polyurethane material and limit its application range to a certain extent. In view of this problem, the present invention develops a halogen-free intrinsic flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane material that is completely halogen-free, has a low flame retardant content and has a good flame retardant effect. Summary of the invention

The prepared waterborne polyurethane material has the characteristics of being difficult to burn or easy to self-extinguish after burning. Through key links such as raw material selection, formula optimization, and performance testing and evaluation, a halogen-free intrinsic flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane material with excellent flame-retardant properties has been successfully developed. By performing performance testing and evaluation on the material, the environmental performance of the material has been significantly improved while maintaining good physical properties, so that the material has excellent flame-retardant effects while also meeting strict environmental protection regulations at home and abroad. The material not only performs excellently in flame-retardant properties, but also has good physical properties and environmental protection characteristics. [0087]
[0088]
[0089] It can be seen from Table 1 that the preparation method of the halogen-free intrinsically flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane proposed in the present invention, by introducing phosphorus and nitrogen elements having flame-retardant effects, the prepared waterborne polyurethane has good flame retardancy.
[0090] The invention adopts p-hydroxyphenylpropionitrile to synthesize a small molecule diamine flame retardant chain extender containing phosphorus and nitrogen flame retardant elements and capable of improving the rigidity and cohesion of a substrate, and uses the flame retardant to perform post-chain extension flame retardant modification on a waterborne polyurethane material, thereby preparing a halogen-free intrinsically flame retardant waterborne polyurethane material. By analyzing the combustion performance and thermal decomposition performance of the material, the prepared waterborne polyurethane material has good flame retardancy.
[0091] It can be seen from Table 2 that the introduction of phosphorus improves the thermal decomposition performance of the flame-retardant waterborne polyurethane material. The phosphorus forms a stable phosphate layer during the combustion process, covering the surface of the polyurethane material to prevent the further spread of the flame, and can also reduce the release of combustible gases. As the amount of flame retardant added increases, the amount of residual carbon will also increase accordingly, effectively improving the flame retardant effect of the material. When the flame retardant effect is similar to that of Comparative Example 2, the content of the flame retardant in the present invention is significantly reduced (the content of the flame retardant in Example 3 is 4.8%). When the content of the flame retardant is substantially equal to that in Comparative Example 2 (Example 5), the residual carbon at 600°C of the present invention is 12.96%, which is significantly higher than 9.71% of Comparative Example 2, and the flame retardant effect of the present invention is better.
[0092] The above shows and describes the basic principles and main features of the present invention and the advantages of the present invention. It should be understood by those skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments. The above embodiments and descriptions are only for explaining the principles of the present invention. Without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention, the present invention may have various changes and improvements, which fall within the scope of the present invention to be protected.
