AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing hydraulic filters fail to effectively manage increased viscosity and air bubbles in hydraulic fluid during low temperature operations, leading to pump noise and increased resistance, and existing valves exacerbate these issues.

Method used

An oil filter reservoir with a permeable wall, spring-biased bypass valve, and baffle structure that separates the reservoir into inlet, outlet, reserve, and bypass chambers, allowing controlled oil flow and pressure relief under low temperatures.

Benefits of technology

The solution reduces noise and flow resistance by relieving pressure and separating air bubbles, enhancing hydraulic pump performance during cold starts.

Abstract

An oil filter reservoir comprising: a reservoir housing (102); a filter (104) within the housing (102) dividing the housing (102) into an oil inlet chamber (112) and an oil outlet chamber (114); a housing inlet in communication with the inlet chamber (112); a housing outlet (110) in communication with the outlet chamber (114); wherein the filter (104) includes a permeable wall (116) and a bypass valve (118), the bypass valve (118) opening in response to higher oil pressure and volume in the inlet chamber (112) to allow a portion of the oil to bypass the permeable wall (116) and be released from the bypass valve (118) into a bypass chamber (104);anda baffle (106) in the outlet chamber (114), the baffle (106) being spaced from the bypass valve (118), the baffle (106) further separating the outlet chamber (114) into a reserve chamber (202) and the bypass chamber (204), the baffle (106) including openings (206) allowing limited oil flow therethrough between the bypass chamber (204) and the reserve chamber (202), the housing outlet (110) and the bypass valve (118) being in fluid communication with the bypass chamber (204);

Claims

[1] Oil filter reservoir, which includes: a reservoir housing (102), a filter (104) in the housing (102) which divides the housing (102) into an oil inlet chamber (112) and an oil outlet chamber (114); a housing inlet in communication with the inlet chamber (112); a housing outlet (110) in communication with the outlet chamber (114); wherein the filter (104) includes a permeable wall (116) and a bypass valve (118), the bypass valve (118) opening in response to higher oil pressure and volume in the inlet chamber (112) to allow a portion of the oil to bypass the permeable wall (116) and be released from the bypass valve (118) into a bypass chamber (204); and a baffle (106) in the outlet chamber (114), the baffle (106) being spaced from the bypass valve (118), the baffle (106) further separating the outlet chamber (114) into a reserve chamber (202) and the bypass chamber (204), the baffle (106) including openings (206) allowing limited oil flow therethrough between the bypass chamber (204) and the reserve chamber (202), the housing outlet (110) and the bypass valve (118) being in fluid communication with the bypass chamber (204). [2] The oil filter reservoir of claim 1, wherein the baffle (106) includes a wall (208) extending into the bypass chamber (204), some baffle openings (206) located on one side of the wall (208) and other baffle openings (206) located on another side of the wall (208), the wall (208) limiting oil access to the baffle openings (206) on the other side of the wall (208) so that more viscous oil is encouraged to flow out of the housing outlet (110). [3] The oil filter reservoir of claim 1, wherein the wall (208) has a U-shaped cross-section. [4] The oil filter reservoir of claim 1, wherein the filter (104) is secured in the reservoir housing (102). [5] The oil filter reservoir of claim 1, wherein the baffle (106) is secured in the reservoir housing (102). [6] The oil filter reservoir of claim 1, wherein the baffle (106) is made of nylon 6,6. [7] Oil filter reservoir according to claim 1, wherein the bypass valve (118) is spring-loaded.
