Description

State of the art

[0001] Metal contact pins are known and are used, particularly in MID (Molded Interconnect Devices) technology, for electrical contacting, as disclosed, for example, in utility model DE 296 19 867 U1. In this application, the contact pins are arranged in holes, also called vias (vertical interconnect access), in printed circuit boards or circuit carriers. To mechanically fix the contact pins to the printed circuit boards, they can be attached, for example, using a press-fit technique. Alternatively, contact pins can be electrically connected to a printed circuit board by soldering and mechanically fixed to the board.

[0002] From the patent application DE 100 11 595 A1, a method for connecting a flexible printed circuit to a circuit of a circuit carrier using an electrically conductive adhesive is known.

[0003] Further possibilities for constructing printed circuit boards with contact pins and for attaching contact pins to printed circuit boards are specified, for example, in US 2013 / 0 017 740 A1, US 2010 / 0 122 458 A1, US 2004 / 0 137 803 A1 and EP 0801521 A2. Disclosure of the invention

[0004] The invention relates to an arrangement comprising a printed circuit board having at least one hole and a contact pin, wherein the contact pin is arranged in the hole of the printed circuit board, wherein the contact pin has a cylindrical metallic base body and at least one projection arranged radially on the outside of the metallic base body, wherein at least partially an electrically conductive adhesive is arranged on one side of the projection facing the printed circuit board.

[0005] The arrangement according to the invention, comprising a contact pin, can be electrically connected to conductor tracks on a printed circuit board (PCB) using the electrically conductive adhesive and mechanically fixed to the PCB. Unlike conventional methods, it is not necessary to first attach a contact pin to a PCB, then establish an electrically conductive connection to the PCB's conductor tracks, and finally perform a separate, time-consuming mechanical fixation using a separate bonding agent, such as solder or the like. Instead, the contact pin according to the invention can be mass-produced as a complete unit and attached directly to a PCB in a single step. The metallic base of the contact pin according to the invention can be manufactured using conventional methods. The contact pin according to the invention can also have two or more radial projections.

[0006] According to an advantageous embodiment, the projection is made of metal. This allows the projection to be electrically conductive and connected to the metallic base body, and it can also be used for electrical contacting the contact pin.

[0007] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the projection is formed monolithically with the metallic base body. This allows the contact pin to be manufactured easily from a blank, for example, using an upsetting process to form the projection.

[0008] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the projection is designed as a collar that is at least partially circumferential. This is accompanied by a planar design of the projection, which provides a larger contact area for the electrical contact of the contact pin with conductor tracks arranged on a printed circuit board. The projection can also be designed as a fully circumferential collar.

[0009] According to a further advantageous embodiment, at least one radially inwardly extending recess is arranged in the collar. This recess allows some of the electrically conductive adhesive displaced when the contact pin is attached to a printed circuit board to pass through and escape. The collar can also have two or more such recesses.

[0010] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the contact pin has at least one press-fit section arranged on the metallic base body. This can be additionally provided to further improve the robustness of a mechanical fixation of the contact pin to a printed circuit board.

[0011] The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing an arrangement consisting of a contact pin and a printed circuit board, wherein the contact pin is arranged in a hole in the printed circuit board, comprising the steps: - Manufacturing a cylindrical metallic base body; - Arranging at least one projection on the outside of the metallic base body; and - Applying an electrically conductive adhesive to at least part of one side of the projection facing the circuit board and placing the contact pin in the hole of the circuit board.

[0012] This method offers the same advantages mentioned above with regard to the device. The metallic base body can be manufactured using conventional methods.

[0013] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the electrically conductive adhesive is applied to the projection by dipping, jetting or dispensing.

[0014] Which of these methods is chosen depends on the specific circumstances and technical requirements.

[0015] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the projection is arranged monolithically with the metallic base body. This is correspondingly linked to the advantages mentioned above with reference to the corresponding embodiment of the device.

[0016] According to a further advantageous embodiment, the projection is designed as a collar that is at least partially circumferential. This is also associated with the advantages and design variants mentioned above with reference to the corresponding embodiment of the device.

[0017] According to a further advantageous embodiment, at least one radially inwardly extending recess is arranged on the collar. This is also associated with the advantages and embodiment variants mentioned above with reference to the corresponding design of the device.

[0018] According to a further advantageous embodiment, at least one press-fit section is arranged on the metallic base body. This also offers the advantages mentioned above with reference to the corresponding embodiment of the device.

[0019] The invention further relates to a connector, characterized in that the connector comprises an arrangement according to the invention. The advantages and embodiments mentioned above with reference to the contact pin and the method are correspondingly associated with this connector.

[0020] The invention is explained below by way of example with reference to the accompanying figures and preferred embodiments, wherein the features shown below can represent an aspect of the invention both individually and in various combinations. The figures show... Fig. 1: a schematic side view of an embodiment of a contact pin according to the invention arranged on a printed circuit board, and Fig. 2: a schematic overlay on an embodiment of a projection of a contact pin according to the invention.
