Abstract
Description
Technical field
[0001] The invention relates to a vehicle intake structure. Background of the invention
[0002] An intake port of an internal combustion engine is known which is configured to supply low-temperature air to the engine during normal vehicle driving, while preventing water from entering the engine when the vehicle drives through a deep puddle (see patent specification 1).
[0003] Such an intake duct for an internal combustion engine contains a lower duct section to draw in air from the front of the vehicle, and an upper duct section located at an upper part of the lower duct section to take the air from the lower duct section through a connecting inlet and supply it to the engine.
[0004] The lower channel section contains a lower outlet that communicates with an engine compartment, and through which any foreign substance, such as water, entering the lower channel section is discharged into the engine compartment. State of the art [patent literature]
[0005] JP 2021-127695 A Disclosure of the invention Problem to be solved by the invention:
[0006] Incidentally, if a radiator with a cooling fan is arranged laterally with respect to the intake duct and the cooling fan is activated during a vehicle stop, the air with increased temperature (hot air) is discharged through the radiator into the engine compartment.
[0007] When the hot air blows against the engine and then flows forward from the engine, entering the engine through an opening in the intake duct that opens on the engine compartment side, the intake air temperature may rise, thereby reducing the engine's output power.
[0008] Therefore, if the radiator with the cooling fan is located to the side of the intake duct, it is necessary to prevent the intake air temperature from rising in the engine, in order to prevent a reduction in the engine's output power.
[0009] The present invention was made in view of the above circumstances, and it is an object of the invention to provide a vehicle inlet structure that can prevent hot air, which is discharged from a radiator by a cooling fan, from entering an internal combustion engine, in order to prevent a reduction in the output power of the internal combustion engine. Means to solve the problem

Mode of operation of the invention
[0011] In this way, the invention makes it possible to prevent hot air, such as that emitted from a cooler by a cooling fan, from entering an internal combustion engine, thus preventing the output power of the internal combustion engine from being impaired. [0013] According to the vehicle intake structure of the embodiment of the invention, it is possible to prevent hot air, which is discharged from a radiator by a cooling fan, from entering the internal combustion engine, in order to prevent a reduction in the engine's output power. [Example(s)]
[0014] In the following, a vehicle intake structure according to one embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. Fig. Figures 1 to 7 show the vehicle inlet structure according to the embodiment.
[0015] In the Fig. 1 to 7 correspond to the vertical, longitudinal and lateral directions of an internal combustion engine (hereinafter: engine) installed in a vehicle, that is, the longitudinal direction corresponds to a direction of the vehicle from front to back, with one side closer to a radiator being called the "front" and the other side closer to an engine being called the "rear".
[0016] The left-right direction corresponds to the direction to the left and right of the vehicle (vehicle width direction), where one side, closer to the catalytic converter, can be referred to as the "left side," while the other side, closer to an intake pipe, can be referred to as the "right side." The vertical direction corresponds to the direction in the vehicle's height (engine height direction), where one side, closer to an air filter, can be referred to as the "top side," while the other side, further away from it, is referred to as the "bottom side."
[0017] First, the structure will be described.
[0018] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 1, vehicle 1 includes a front bumper 2, which is installed at the front of vehicle 1. Behind the front bumper 2 is the engine compartment 3.
[0019] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 7, a front grille 2a opens forward on the front bumper 2. The front grille 2a communicates with the engine compartment 3 to allow air from outside the vehicle 1 into its front.
[0020] The front bumper 2 forms a body part, and the front grille 2a forms an air intake.
[0021] As in the Fig. 1 and Fig. As shown in Figure 3, a bumper 5 is arranged behind the front bumper 2.
[0022] How Fig. Figure 1 shows that an engine 6 and an intake device 7 are arranged within the engine compartment 3.
[0023] The inlet device 7 includes an inlet channel 8, an inlet hose 9, an air purifier 10 and an inlet pipe 11.
[0024] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 3, the intake duct 8 is attached to the upper part 4. The intake duct 8 contains an air inlet 8a, which opens at its front end and through which air is admitted into the engine compartment 3, starting from the front grille 2a.
[0025] How Fig. Figure 1 shows that the inlet hose 9 runs from the inlet channel 8 to the rear in order to connect the inlet channel 8 with the air purifier 10.
[0026] The air purifier 10 is located above the motor 6 and is designed to clean the air drawn into the inlet hose 9 from the inlet duct 8.
[0027] The inlet pipe 11 serves to supply the air cleaned by the air cleaner 10 to an inlet opening of the engine 6 (not shown) via an inlet manifold (not shown) on the engine 6.
[0028] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 1, a catalyst 12 is located at the front of the engine 6. Exhaust gas from the engine 6, combusted in a combustion chamber (not shown), is fed to the catalyst 12 through an exhaust port (not shown) of the engine 6. The catalyst 12 serves to clean the exhaust gas.
[0029] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 7, the front bumper 2 includes a front wall 2A extending vertically and formed with the front grille 2a, a sloping wall 2B extending rearward and upward from an upper end of the front wall 2A, and a horizontal wall 2C extending from a rear end of the sloping wall 2B to the inlet duct 8 and abutting an upper surface of the inlet duct 8.
[0030] Between the front grille 2a (that is the front wall 2A) and the engine 6 lies a radiator 21 in a longitudinal direction (see Fig. 1), which is located below the upper part 4 (see Fig. 3) is located.
[0031] Below the bumper 5 is a lower section (not shown). The radiator is attached to the upper section 4 and the lower section in such a way that it is positioned vertically between them.
[0032] The engine 6 is an internal combustion engine, and the cooler 21 is a radiator.
[0033] As in the Fig. 1 and Fig. As shown in Figure 4, the cooler 21 contains a cooler body 22, a cooling fan 23 and a fan skirt 24.
[0034] The radiator body 22 includes an upper tank 22A at its upper region, a (not shown) lower tank at its lower region, and a radiator core 22B between the upper tank 22A and the lower tank in the vertical direction.
[0035] The radiator core 22B consists of flat water tubes (not shown) that are laminated alternately, designed to exchange heat between a cooling water flowing through the water tubes from the upper tank 22A and an outside air, in order to cool the cooling water and direct it into the lower tank.
[0036] The fan shroud 24 is attached to a rear area of the radiator body 22. The fan shroud 24 contains the cooling fan 23 and a (not shown) fan motor for rotating the cooling fan 23.
[0037] The blower skirt 24 is configured to rotate the cooling fan 23, thereby directing air drawn into the engine compartment 3 from the front of the vehicle 1 through the front grille 2a into the radiator core 22B. The air drawn into the radiator core 22B exchanges heat with the coolant flowing through it, and is then expelled to the rear by the cooling fan 23.
[0038] Furthermore, the blower skirt 24 is equipped with a guide element 24A, which is open towards the catalyst 12 and an auxiliary machine 13, in order to partially direct the air discharged to the rear by the cooling blower 23 towards the catalyst 12 and the auxiliary machine 13. The auxiliary machine 13 is, for example, a generator.
[0039] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 3, there is an air guide 25 in the vertical direction between the upper part 4 and the bumper 5, which is connected to a pair of supports 28A (see Figure 3). Fig. 1) at both ends in the direction of vehicle width, also with a support 28B (see Fig. 5) is equipped in the middle of the air duct 25 in the direction of the vehicle width. The air duct 25 is attached to the upper part 4 by these supports 28A and 28B.
[0040] The air guide 25 consists of a cooler-side air guide 26 and a duct-side air guide 27. The former is located in front of the cooler core 22B, which is opposite the cooler core 22B in the longitudinal direction.
[0041] Furthermore, the air guide 26 on the cooler side is designed with an air hole 26A to direct the air drawn into the engine compartment 3 towards the cooler core 22B.
[0042] The duct-side air guide 28 is connected to the cooler-side air guide 26. The former is arranged with the cooler 21 in the vehicle width direction and with the inlet duct 8 in the height direction.
[0043] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5, a lower guide wall 27a is formed on a front surface of the duct-side air guide 27, extending vertically. The lower guide wall 27a is provided with a horn mounting hole 27b, by means of which a horn (not shown) is attached to the lower guide wall 27a, which generates a warning signal.
[0044] The duct-side air guide 27 has a first discharge duct 27A, an air outlet 27B and a second discharge duct 27C. The two discharge ducts 27A and 27C form discharge channels.
[0045] The first discharge channel 27A is located closer to the cooler 21 in the vehicle width direction than the second discharge channel 27C.
[0046] As in the Fig. 5 and Fig. As shown in Figure 7, the first discharge channel contains a bottom wall 27c, a left side wall 27d, a right side wall 27e, and a top wall 27f.
[0047] The bottom wall 27c extends from the lower guide wall 27a, which is gently inclined, backwards and upwards.
[0048] The left side wall 27d runs behind the lower guide wall 27a from the left end of the bottom wall 27c upwards.
[0049] The right side wall 27e runs behind the lower guide wall 27a from the right end of the bottom wall 27c upwards.
[0050] The left side wall 27d and the right side wall 27e are connected at their rear ends to an upper guide wall 27h. The upper guide wall 27h is located above and behind the lower guide wall 27a. In particular, the upper guide wall 27h extends upwards from the respective upper regions of the left side wall 27d and the right side wall 27e at their rear ends (see Fig. 7).
[0051] The front ends of the bottom wall 27c, the left side wall 27d, and the right side wall 27e define a frontal opening 29 that points forward. Air flowing into the engine compartment 3 from the front grille 2a is partially directed through the frontal opening 29 into the first discharge duct 27A.
[0052] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 4, the left side wall 27d and the right side wall 27e are opposite each other in the direction of the vehicle's width. The left side wall 27d is closer to the radiator 21 than the right side wall 27e, which is adjacent to the radiator 21.
[0053] The right side wall 27e is equipped with a sloping wall 27g which, in a top view of the vehicle 1 in the longitudinal direction, extends from a rear end of the right side wall 27e towards the left side wall 27d.
[0054] The bottom wall 27c runs to a lower end of the sloping wall 27g, which is connected to the lower end of the sloping wall 27g.
[0055] The upper wall 27f is opposite a rear area of the bottom wall 27c in the vertical direction, which is connected to an upper area of the sloping wall 27g, and is connected at the rear end of the left side wall 27d to an upper area of the left side wall 27d.
[0056] The rear ends of both the sloping wall 27g and the left side wall 27d define a rear opening 30, which is located behind the front opening 29 and faces the radiator 21, from which a discharge direction is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction in a top view of the vehicle 1.
[0057] In other words, the first discharge channel 27A is partially inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction, so that the front opening 29 points forward and the rear opening 30 faces the cooler 21.
[0058] A portion of the air introduced into the engine compartment 3 by the front grille 2a, which contains a foreign substance (see the arrow “A2” in Fig. 7, which represents the air containing the foreign substance) flows through the first discharge channel 27A from the front opening 29, in order to then be discharged via the rear opening 30 towards the cooler 21 (see the Fig. 4 and Fig. 7) The foreign substance is, for example, water, snow, dust, etc.
[0059] One side wall, the right side wall 27e, forms another or further side wall. The inclined wall 27g forms a sloping section.
[0060] As the Fig. 3 and Fig. As shown in Figure 5, the air outlet 27B is located above the first discharge duct 27A.
[0061] In particular, the air outlet 27B is located above the left side wall 27d and the right side wall 27e, which together form the first discharge channel 27A, defined by an upper area of the upper guide wall 27a, the left and right projecting walls 27i, 27j, which extend forward from the upper area of the upper guide wall 27a to face each other in the direction of the vehicle width.
[0062] The left projection wall 27i is arranged vertically with the left side wall 27d and is also arranged vertically with the right side wall 27e.
[0063] Another portion of the air drawn into the engine compartment 3 by the front grille 2a, which contains no foreign substance (see the arrow “A1” in Fig. 7, which means the air without the foreign substance) flows from the frontal opening 29 along a steep inclination area of the bottom wall 27c, which is located at its front part and has a relatively large inclination, upwards, in order to then pass through the channel formed by the left projection wall 27i, the upper guide wall 27h and the right projection wall 27j (see Fig. 5 and Fig. 7) to be directed to inlet channel 8.
[0064] As in Fig. 4 and Fig. As shown in Figure 5, the second discharge channel 27C contains a left side wall 27k adjacent to the right side wall 27e of the first discharge channel 27A in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and a right side wall 27m opposite the left side wall 27k in the width direction of the vehicle.
[0065] Furthermore, the second discharge duct 27C contains a bottom wall 27a that connects the left side wall 27k and the right side wall 27m at their lower ends, and a top wall 27p that connects the left side wall 27k and the right side wall 27m at their upper ends. The top wall 27p is located below the air outlet 27B.
[0066] Furthermore, the second discharge channel 27C contains a rear wall 27q, which connects the left side wall 27k, the right side wall 27m, the bottom wall 27n and the top wall 27p at their rear ends.
[0067] The rear wall 27q is equipped with an opening 27r, which is equipped with a cylindrical section 27s extending from the rear wall 27q to the rear to surround the opening 27r in a longitudinal view.
[0068] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 5, the second discharge duct 27C opens at its front and rear ends (hereinafter referred to as the "front opening 31") to allow air to flow through the second discharge duct 27C. The front opening 31 is defined by the front ends of the left side wall 27k, the right side wall 27m, the bottom wall 27n, and the top wall 27p.
[0069] The cylindrical section 27s communicates with the second discharge channel 27C and opens at its rear end (hereinafter referred to as the "rear opening 32").
[0070] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 6, a portion of a side wall of the cylindrical section 27s extends backward and upward from the rear wall 27q, which is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction. In the longitudinal direction, this portion of the side wall of the cylindrical section 27s, which is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction, is longer than the other portion of the side wall, which extends horizontally. In other words, this portion of the side wall extends from the rear wall 27q beyond the other portion of the side wall in the longitudinal direction.
[0071] The second discharge channel 27C runs along the longitudinal direction, thereby directing the air contained in the foreign substance (see the arrow “A3” in) admitted from the front grille 2a into the engine compartment 3. Fig. 7, which means the air with the foreign substance) partially flows from the front opening 31 towards the rear opening 32 in order to carry the foreign substance contained in the air to the rear.
[0072] The first discharge channel 27A is thus configured to discharge the air A1 diagonally backwards towards the radiator 21 within the engine compartment 3 through the sloping wall 27g.
[0073] The second discharge duct 27C is configured to discharge the air A3 directly to the rear within the engine compartment 3 through the cylindrical section 27s.
[0074] Consequently, it is possible to disperse the foreign substance within the engine compartment 3.
[0075] In the duct-side air guide 27, the air outlet 27B is located above the first discharge duct 27A and the second discharge duct 27C, configured to supply to the inlet duct 8 the air from which the foreign substance has already been removed by the first discharge duct 27A and the second discharge duct 27C.
[0076] As in Fig. As shown in Figure 3, when considering the air guide 25 from the front of the vehicle 1, the first discharge channel 27A is shaped at right angles, so that the dimension in the vehicle width direction is larger than in the height direction.
[0077] In particular, in the first discharge channel 27A, the dimensions of both the bottom wall 27c and the top wall 27f in the vehicle width direction are larger than those of both the left side wall 27d and the right side wall 27e in the height direction.
[0078] In contrast, the second discharge channel 27C is shaped so that its dimension in the vertical direction is greater than in the vehicle width direction.
[0079] This means that, with regard to the front opening 31, the dimension of both the left side wall 27k and the right side wall 27m in the vertical direction is greater than that of both the bottom wall 27n and the top wall 27p in the vehicle width direction. Furthermore, in the opening 27r, the dimension in the vertical direction is greater than in the vehicle width direction.
[0080] As in the Fig. 5 and Fig. As can be seen in Figure 7, the upper guide wall 27h is equipped with a shielding plate 27t, which is located in front of and above the inclined wall 27g, which projects forward from the upper guide wall 27h.
[0081] This means that the shielding plate 27t is located vertically between the first discharge duct 27A and the air outlet 27b to form a separation between them. The shielding plate 27t is configured to prevent the air (hot air) from flowing backwards from the rear opening 30 of the first discharge duct 27A towards the air outlet 27B, as explained below.
[0082] The shielding plate 27t forms a shielding component.
[0083] Next, the operating principles of the inlet structure of vehicle 1 according to the present embodiment will be described.
[0084] The intake structure of the vehicle 1 according to this embodiment includes the front bumper 2 with the front grille 2a, which opens forwards, and the engine 6 located in the engine compartment 3 behind the front bumper 2.
[0085] Furthermore, the inlet structure includes: the radiator 21 with the cooling fan 23 between the front grille 2a and the engine 6; the air guide 25 to direct the air drawn in from the front grille 2a into the engine compartment 3 from the engine 6 and the radiator 21; and the inlet duct 8 above the air guide 25 to supply the air directed by the air guide 25 to the engine 6.
[0086] The air guide 25 contains the first discharge channel 27A and the second discharge channel 27C to discharge the foreign substance contained in the air admitted by the front grille 2a to the rear within the engine compartment 3, with both channels being arranged in the direction of the vehicle width.
[0087] The first discharge channel 27A contains the front opening 29 and the rear opening 30 behind it, with the first discharge channel being closer to the cooler 21 than the second discharge channel 27C.
[0088] The first discharge channel 27A is partially inclined within a horizontal plane with respect to the longitudinal direction, so that the front opening 29 points forward and the rear opening 30 is inclined backwards opposite the cooler 21.
[0089] The second discharge channel 27C runs straight along the longitudinal direction.
[0090] For this reason, when vehicle 1 is driving, the foreign substance which is in the air A2, A3 (see Fig. 7) is contained, which flows from the front grille 2a into the engine compartment 3, and is discharged to the rear within the engine compartment 3 through the first discharge channel 27A and the second discharge channel 27C.
[0091] Furthermore, the air A1 (see Fig. 7), from which the foreign substance has already been removed through the first discharge channel 27A, is introduced into the motor 6 through the inlet channel 8 located above the first discharge channel 27A.
[0092] Incidentally, if the cooling fan 23 is switched on during a vehicle stop, for example due to a rise in water temperature, the hot air A4, which is discharged from the guide section 24A of the fan skirt 24, can collide with the catalyst 12 or the auxiliary machine 13, and thus flow forwards and enter the first discharge channel 27A from the rear opening 30 (see Fig. 4).
[0093] The first discharge channel 27A is partially inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction, so that the rear opening 30 is opposite the cooler 21. For this reason, the hot air A4 entering the first discharge channel 27A from the rear opening 30 flows obliquely forward through the first discharge channel 27A, reaches the front opening 31 of the second discharge channel 27C, and is discharged to the rear within the engine compartment 3 by the second discharge channel 27C.
[0094] This makes it possible to prevent the hot air A4, which flows through the cooling fan 25 towards the air guide 25, from entering the inlet channel 8 above the air guide 25.
[0095] As a result, when the vehicle is stopped and the cooling fan 23 is switched on to allow the hot air A4 discharged from the radiator 21 to flow forward, the discharged hot air A4 can be prevented from being drawn into the engine 6, thus avoiding a reduction in the output power of the engine 6.
[0096] Furthermore, in this inlet structure, the first discharge channel 27A is rectangular in shape in a front view of the vehicle 1, with the dimension in the vehicle width direction being larger than the dimension in the height direction.
[0097] This makes it possible to easily diffuse, within the horizontal plane, the air flowing from the front of the vehicle 1 into the first discharge channel 27A or the air flowing backwards from the cooling fan 23 into the first discharge channel 27A. In particular, it makes it possible to effectively direct the air flowing into the second discharge channel 27C, which is laterally adjacent to the first discharge channel 27A, from the cooler 21.
[0098] Furthermore, in this inlet structure, the second discharge channel 27C is rectangular in shape in a front view of the vehicle 1, with the dimension in the vertical direction being larger than that in the horizontal direction.
[0099] This makes it possible to effectively capture some of the hot air discharged forward from the first discharge duct 27A, which flows along the width of the vehicle towards the second discharge duct 27C, through the second discharge duct 27C, in order to allow even more hot air to be discharged backwards from the second discharge duct 27C within the engine compartment.
[0100] Furthermore, in this inlet structure, the first discharge channel 27A includes a left and a right side wall 27d, 27e, which extend rearward from the front opening 29 and are opposite each other in the vehicle width direction. One of these, which is adjacent to the radiator 21 in the vehicle width direction, i.e., the left side wall 27d, is shorter than the right side wall 27e in the longitudinal direction.
[0101] At the rear end of the right side wall 27e, the sloping wall 27G is formed, which extends from the rear end of the right side wall 27e to the left side wall 27d, thereby forming the rear opening 30 together with the left side wall 27d at the rear ends.
[0102] This allows the air or hot air to flow at an angle along the sloping wall 27g in a simple manner with respect to its longitudinal direction. Thus, the hot air flowing from the cooler 21 into the first discharge channel 27A can easily flow from the latter towards the second discharge channel 27C.
[0103] Furthermore, in this inlet structure, the air outlet 27B is formed above the left and right side walls 27d, 27e of the first discharge duct 27A, through which the air drawn in through the front opening 29 is supplied to the inlet duct 8. Between the discharge duct 27A and the air outlet 27B, the shielding plate 27t is located vertically to prevent the air (hot air) from flowing backwards from the rear opening 30 to the air outlet 27B.
[0104] This ensures that the air entering the first discharge channel 27A from the rear opening 30 collides with the shielding plate 27t, thus preventing it from flowing into the air outlet 27B above the first discharge channel 27A. This prevents the hot air from entering the inlet channel 8, thereby reliably preventing a reduction in the output power of the motor 6.
