Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Junction box with splice location Field of invention
[0001] The present invention relates to a connection box for an optical cable with a splicing location. In particular, the connection box comprises a hanging system for an optical fiber storage accessory suitable for splicing. Prior art
[0002] A connection box comprises an input for an optical cable and at least one optical socket adapted for the insertion of an optical connector. Inside, the at least one optical socket is connected to a corresponding optical fiber coming from the optical cable.
[0003] It is known to have such connection boxes in a communication box or electrical box. In particular, the connection box can be fixed to a rail attached to the bottom of the box.
[0004] This type of junction box is also known as an optical indoor termination device (OID).
[0005] It may be necessary for maintenance operations to open the box, for example to connect an optical fiber to a socket. To do this, it is known to use a connection box comprising a removable closing cover.
[0006] The size of this type of connection box must be reduced to facilitate installation in the communications box or electrical box.
[0007] This arrangement can make certain maintenance operations difficult, such as splicing an optical fiber to an optical outlet and installing the assembly inside the connection box.
[0008] The present invention aims to resolve all or part of the drawbacks mentioned above. Statement of the invention
[0009] To this end, the present invention relates to a connection box for an optical cable comprising:
[0010] a bottom extending along a longitudinal plane,
[0011] a lower wall attached to the bottom and extending transversely to the longitudinal plane,
[0012] a cooperation mechanism configured to removably mount the connection box to a rail, the cooperation mechanism being attached to and / or provided in the bottom wall so that in a position mounted on the rail, the longitudinal plane extends transversely to an extension axis of the rail,
[0013] a side wall attached to the bottom and extending transversely to the longitudinal plane (7),
[0014] an additional side wall attached to the bottom and extending opposite the side wall,
[0015] an input-output arrangement having a passage opening for an optical cable provided in the side wall or the additional side wall, the input-output arrangement also having at least one housing for an optical socket provided in the side wall,
[0016] a coiling guide arranged in and / or attached to the bottom, the coiling guide being configured to cooperate with at least one optical fiber of the optical cable connected to an optical socket mounted in the or one of the housings for optical socket,
[0017] a closing cover configured to cooperate with the bottom wall and / or the side wall in a closed position of the connection box, the closing cover extending parallel to the longitudinal plane in the closed position,
[0018] a hanging system for an optical fiber storage accessory, the connection box having, in the closed position, a receiving location for an optical fiber storage accessory, the receiving location extending parallel to the longitudinal plane and being arranged, in the closed position, at least partly between the coiling guide and the closing cover transversely to the longitudinal plane.
[0019] The hanging system and the reception location allow for the possibility of carrying out maintenance operations when the connection box is installed.
[0020] Indeed, it is usual to pre-wire a connection box by installing in the factory an optical cable already connected to the optical socket. The optical socket(s) are arranged in the corresponding housing(s) and the cable in the passage opening.
[0021] The cable having a stripped part, the visible optical fibers of the stripped part are arranged in the coiling guide so as to respect a minimum bending radius.
[0022] In this context, the presence of the attachment system and the reception location makes it possible to change the factory-installed cable while retaining the socket(s) and the optical fibers coming from the stripped part of the cable.
[0023] The optical fibers can be connected by splicing to the optical fibers of the new optical cable. It is then sufficient to arrange the splices on the storage accessory which is then mounted in the connection box.
[0024] It is also possible to keep the existing cable and change the optical sockets. Also, the optical cable and optical sockets can be kept and a new optical fiber from the optical cable connected to an existing optical socket.
[0025] The connection box thus allows the rapid and easy installation of a factory-preconnected cable while providing the possibility of carrying out maintenance operations, such as making new optical fiber connections by splicing.
[0026] According to one aspect of the invention, the connection box comprises two housings for optical fibers.
[0027] According to one aspect of the invention, the side wall is arranged so that the passage opening and the at least one optical socket housing are aligned parallel to the longitudinal plane. The alignment is also transverse to the bottom wall.
[0028] According to one aspect of the invention, the reception location also extends at least in part between a location internal to the connection box for the optical sockets and the optical cable on the one hand and the closing cover on the other hand, transversely to the longitudinal plane.
[0029] According to one aspect of the invention, the passage opening has a fixing for a device for attaching the optical cable to the connection box. The attachment device is for example a clamp.
[0030] According to one aspect of the invention, the closing cover is snap-on to the rest of the connection box.
[0031] The side wall is also transverse to the bottom wall. In this text, the term transverse is equivalent to perpendicular or almost perpendicular to within a few degrees, in particular less than 10°. Similarly, substantially parallel means parallel or slightly inclined at an angle of less than 10°.
[0032] According to one aspect of the invention, the connection box comprises an upper wall attached to the bottom and extending opposite the lower wall. The upper wall extends substantially parallel to the lower wall. The upper wall has an identification device such as a label or a plate.
[0033] Preferably, the passage opening and the at least one housing are provided in the side wall.
[0034] The bottom wall, the top wall, the side wall and the additional side wall are connected so as to generate an internal space in the connection box which can be closed by the closing cover.
[0035] According to one aspect of the invention, the storage accessory attachment system is configured to allow movement of the storage accessory between a storage position in which the storage accessory is disposed in the docking location and a deployed position.
[0036] This arrangement allows the storage accessory to be moved after attachment to the attachment system. Maintenance is thus made easier. Preferably, the deployed position allows access to the coiling guide.
[0037] According to one aspect of the invention, the movement is a pivoting of the storage accessory between the storage position and the deployed position. Preferably, an axis of rotation of the storage accessory relative to the attachment system extends parallel to and at a distance from the longitudinal plane. Furthermore, the axis of rotation extends parallel to a direction of extension of the lower wall.
[0038] According to one aspect of the invention, the attachment system comprises a first part of an articulation configured to cooperate with a second complementary part of the articulation attached to and / or arranged in the storage accessory, the articulation allowing the transition from the storage position to the deployed position.
[0039] According to one aspect of the invention, the first part of the articulation is attached to and / or formed in the lower wall.
[0040] According to one aspect of the invention, the articulation is a hinge. In particular, the first part comprises at least one axis support and the second complementary part comprises at least one complementary axis or vice versa.
[0041] According to one aspect of the invention, the cooperation mechanism generates a recess in the lower wall, the first part of the articulation extending at least partly inside the recess while allowing the cooperation mechanism to be mounted on the rail.
[0042] This arrangement makes it possible to at least partially offset the joint outside the connection box. In addition, at least one slot is provided in the lower wall for the passage of the storage accessory.
[0043] According to one aspect of the invention, the cooperation mechanism comprises a movable fastener configured to secure the cooperation mechanism to the rail. Preferably, the movable fastener is arranged to cooperate with the lower wall and comprises on the one hand a handle and on the other hand a return element. The return element maintains cooperation with the rail and the handle makes it possible to move the movable fastener to remove the connection box from the rail.
[0044] Alternatively, the attachment system may not have an articulation. In this case, the attachment system corresponds to a snap-on system.
[0045] According to one aspect of the invention, the first part is configured to cooperate in a removably manner with the second complementary part.
[0046] This provision provides the possibility of not including the storage accessory in the factory, the storage accessory being able to be added to the connection box only in the event of maintenance.
[0047] Furthermore, the fact that the storage accessory is removable facilitates maintenance for the operator by allowing him to access the interior of the connection box and possibly to arrange the optical fibers on the storage accessory before reassembly.
[0048] According to one aspect of the invention, the attachment system further comprises at least one stud attached to the bottom and configured to cooperate with the storage accessory.
[0049] Preferably, the attachment system is configured to hold the storage accessory in the storage position. In particular, the joint has at least one relief to hold the storage accessory in the storage position by complementary shape.
[0050] According to one aspect of the invention, the connection box includes the storage accessory for optical fibers.
[0051] The additional part, the storage accessory, can be added later in order to carry out a repair on one or more optical fibers. The storage accessory is then included in the connection box.
[0052] According to one aspect of the invention, the storage accessory has a storage face shaped to receive splice protections and excess lengths of optical fibers, the storage face facing the closing cover in the closed position.
[0053] This arrangement allows for easy storage of the optical fibers following a maintenance operation. Indeed, the storage accessory can be arranged in any position between the storage position and the deployed position to facilitate storage.
[0054] A splice is an end-to-end connection of two optical fibers. A splice protector is a protective element surrounding the end-to-end connection. The storage accessory is compatible with ANT heat shrink and crimp sleeves.
[0055] According to one aspect of the invention, the storage face has a plurality of projections and / or hollows shaped for arranging and holding in place coiled optical fibers and splice protections.
[0056] In particular, the plurality of projections and / or hollows generates ribs, hooks and channels adapted to optical fibers and splice protections.
[0057] According to one aspect of the invention, the storage accessory has access ramps on its periphery configured for the passage of optical fibers between the storage face and an opposite face of the storage accessory.
[0058] According to one aspect of the invention, the side wall is configured so that the optical cable and optical fibers exiting the optical sockets extend parallel to the splice protectors when the storage accessory is in the storage position.
[0059] This arrangement makes it possible to reduce the thickness of the connection box, the thickness being defined as the dimension transverse to the longitudinal plane. Furthermore, the axis of rotation is also parallel to the splice protections.
[0060] The coiling guide includes ribs attached to the bottom. The ribs are rounded so as to allow a “U” turn for the optical fibers connecting the optical cable to at least one optical outlet.
[0061] The ribs are also adapted to allow the winding of additional lengths of optical fibers.
[0062] According to one aspect of the invention, the at least one optical socket is included in the connection box. The or each optical socket may be mounted removably or not in the corresponding housing.
[0063] The or each optical socket comprises a coupler and an internal connection to the connection box capable of being inserted into the coupler. The internal connection comprises an optical fiber connected to the optical cable. In particular, the internal connection has an end portion also called a "pigtail" from which the optical fiber exits.
[0064] According to one aspect of the invention, the optical socket may comprise a hinged protective cover which is external to the connection box.
[0065] The coupler is adapted for connecting an external connector. A user can thus lift the protective cover to connect the external connector to the coupler. The external connector and the internal connector are thus connected.
[0066] According to one aspect of the invention, the lower wall and the side wall extend on either side of the bottom transversely to the longitudinal plane so as to generate two internal spaces, the connection box comprising two closing covers and two receiving locations so as to provide each internal space with a closing cover and a corresponding receiving location.
[0067] In other words, the bottom becomes an internal wall of the connection box and each internal space is organized to receive a corresponding storage accessory.
[0068] According to one aspect of the invention, the two closing hoods are arranged symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal plane. The same applies to the reception locations.
[0069] According to one aspect of the invention, the side wall comprises at least two housings for optical sockets, at least one housing per internal space.
[0070] Thus, at a minimum, a first housing is on a first side of the bottom and a second housing is on a second side of the bottom transversely to the longitudinal plane.
[0071] Preferably, each internal space is provided with two housings for optical sockets. In particular, the two housings of the same internal space are aligned parallel to the longitudinal plane and transversely to the lower wall.
[0072] According to a notice of the invention, the bottom has a through opening adapted to allow the passage of at least one optical fiber between the internal spaces.
[0073] The passage opening is arranged so as to allow the entry of the optical cable in one of the internal spaces. Some of the optical fibers can be connected to the optical socket(s) in this internal space and also to the optical socket(s) in the other internal space.
[0074] Alternatively, each internal space may include a passage opening adapted to receive an optical cable.
[0075] According to one aspect of the invention, the coiling guide is composed of two parts, each part being on one side of the bottom. Preferably, the two parts are symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal plane.
[0076] Preferably, each part has a rounded central rib, the transverse opening being at least partly inside the area generated by the central rib on the bottom.
[0077] According to one aspect of the invention, the connection box comprising two internal spaces may further include one or two storage accessories. Each storage accessory may be added during a maintenance operation.
[0078] The present invention also relates to a communication box or electrical box comprising at least one rail and at least one connection box as described above.
[0079] The different aspects defined above which are not incompatible can be combined. Brief description of the figures
