[0027] The features and exemplary embodiments of various aspects of the present application will be described in detail below. In the detailed description below, many specific details are proposed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the present application. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the present application can be implemented without the need for some of these specific details. The following description of the embodiments is merely intended to provide a better understanding of the present application by illustrating the examples of the present application.
[0028] The inventors have discovered that one manufacturing process for display panels using quantum dot light-emitting diodes is a wet coating process. However, because wet coating involves a full-surface film-forming process, the ink is spread evenly across the substrate, and the ink on the pixel-defining layer flows into the pixel openings. This random flow of ink results in different volumes of ink within the left and right sub-pixels, which in turn leads to differences in film thickness. This significantly impacts the performance of the final device and the uniformity of the display panel's display effects. Based on this research, the inventors have provided a display panel and display device to improve the display uniformity of the display panel.
[0029] In order to better understand the present application, the display panel and the display device according to the embodiments of the present application are described in detail below with reference to Figures 1 to 14.
[0030] Referring to Figures 1 and 2, an embodiment of the present application provides a display panel 1, comprising a substrate 10, a first electrode layer, a first functional layer 112, a light-emitting layer, a second functional layer 114, and a retaining wall structure 12. The first electrode layer is located on one side of the substrate 10 and comprises a plurality of first electrodes 111 spaced apart from each other. The first functional layer 112, the light-emitting layer, and the second functional layer 114 are stacked in a direction away from the substrate 10, with the light-emitting layer comprising a plurality of light-emitting structures 113. The retaining wall structure 12 comprises a defining structure 121, a plurality of pixel openings 122 disposed in the defining structure 121 and accommodating the plurality of light-emitting structures 113, and a receiving opening 123 disposed in the defining structure 121 and located between adjacent light-emitting structures 113. The receiving opening 123 is used to accommodate portions of the first functional layer 112 located between adjacent pixel openings 122 and portions of the second functional layer 114 located between adjacent pixel openings 122. The first functional layer 112 within the receiving opening 123 is in direct contact with the second functional layer 114.
[0031] The display panel 1 provided in the present application includes a substrate 10, a first electrode layer, a first functional layer 112, a light-emitting layer, a second functional layer 114 and a retaining wall structure 12. The first electrode layer, the first functional layer 112, the light-emitting layer and the second functional layer 114 are stacked in a direction away from the substrate. The first electrode layer includes a plurality of first electrodes 111 spaced apart. The light-emitting layer includes a plurality of light-emitting structures 113. The retaining wall structure 12 is formed on the side of the first electrode layer facing away from the substrate 10, and includes a defining structure 121, a plurality of pixel openings 122 and a plurality of accommodating openings 123. The plurality of pixel openings accommodate the plurality of light-emitting structures 113. The accommodating openings 123 are used to accommodate the portion of the first functional layer 112 located between adjacent first electrodes 111 and the portion of the second functional layer 114 located between adjacent first electrodes 111. The first functional layer 112 and the second functional layer 114 within the accommodating openings 123 are in contact with each other. The first functional layer 112 and the second functional layer 114 can be prepared by a wet coating process. During the coating process, the ink falling between adjacent light-emitting structures 113 can be accommodated by the accommodating opening 123, which can improve the probability of flowing toward the side of the two light-emitting structures 113 away from the substrate 10 (i.e., within the pixel opening 122), reduce or eliminate the difference in ink flow in different pixel openings 122, thereby making the film thickness within the pixel opening 122 more uniform, and making the thickness of each area of the display panel 1 more uniform, which helps to improve the display uniformity of the display panel 1, and thus improve the user experience, and the preparation process is simple and low-cost.
[0032] As shown in FIG. 3 , the pixel opening 122 is used to expose a portion of the first electrode 111 , and the orthographic projection of the definition structure 121 on the substrate 10 covers an edge portion of the orthographic projection of the first electrode 111 on the substrate 10 .
[0033] The pixel opening 122 is used to expose a portion of the first electrode 111 to facilitate light emission from the light-emitting structure 113. The orthographic projection of the defining structure 121 on the substrate 10 covers the edge of the orthographic projection of the first electrode 111 on the substrate 10. This not only insulates adjacent first electrodes 111 from each other, but also protects the first electrodes 111 by preventing the edges of the first electrodes 111 from being exposed and affecting their performance.
[0034] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in FIG. 3 , the defining structure 121 includes a first defining structure 124 , and the receiving opening 123 exposes a portion of the substrate 10 between adjacent first electrodes 111 .
[0035] In the above embodiment, the pixel definition layer in the display panel 1 is omitted, and the pixels (light-emitting structure 113) are defined by a definition structure 121. The definition structure 121 includes a layer, and the receiving opening 123 penetrates the definition structure 121 along the thickness direction of the definition structure 121 and exposes the substrate 10, so that the volume of the receiving opening 123 is increased as much as possible under the premise that the size of the definition structure 121 is certain, so as to accommodate more ink. The receiving opening 123 is used to accommodate the first functional layer and / or the second functional layer prepared by the wet coating process, so that the portion of the first functional layer and / or the second functional layer located between adjacent first electrodes 111 is reduced in probability of flow after being accommodated by the receiving opening 123, thereby improving the uniformity of the film thickness within the display panel 1.
[0036] In the above embodiment, the preparation method of the retaining wall structure 12 is simple and can be prepared using the conventional preparation process of the display panel 1. The pixel definition layer is omitted and replaced with the retaining wall structure 12, which does not increase the number of processes significantly and can achieve low-cost preparation.
[0037] In the above embodiment, the minimum distance between the side of the first confining structure 124 closest to the pixel opening 122 and the side farther from the pixel opening 122 is S, where S is less than 5 μm. Specifically, S can be 1.5 μm, 2 μm, 2.3 μm, 3.4 μm, 3.8 μm, 4.2 μm, 4.9 μm, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application. Selecting these dimensions not only satisfies the spacing requirements between adjacent light-emitting structures 113, but also meets the precision limitations of the manufacturing process for the retaining wall structure 12.
[0038] Preferably, S<2um, specifically, S can be 0.5um, 1um, 1.3um, 1.4um, 1.8um, 1.9um, etc., which can reduce the occupancy rate of the area between the adjacent light-emitting structures 113 by the retaining wall structure 12, so as to further reduce the spacing between the light-emitting structures 113, thereby increasing the aperture ratio of the display panel 1 and improving the display effect.
[0039] In the above embodiment, the material of the first confining structure 124 includes at least one of polyimide, epoxy resin, acrylic resin, silicone resin, silicon nitride, silicon oxide, and a fluorine-containing compound. Specifically, the fluorine-containing compound is a compound containing a perfluoromethyl group, a perfluoroethyl group, or a perfluorophenyl group, or a derivative of a compound containing a perfluoromethyl group, a perfluoroethyl group, or a perfluorophenyl group. These materials are readily available and low-cost, making them suitable for use as the material of the retaining wall structure 12.
[0040] In the above embodiment, the first limiting structure 124 is made of a hydrophobic material, specifically a perfluoromethyl, perfluoroethyl, or perfluorophenyl substituted material. Using a hydrophobic material can reduce the probability of ink residue on the retaining wall structure 12 and improve the uneven film thickness caused by the amount of ink residue on the sidewalls of the pixel opening 122.
[0041] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in Figure 4, the area of the substrate 10 opposite to the accommodating opening 123 also includes a groove portion 101, and the orthographic projection of the limiting structure 121 on the substrate 10 does not overlap with the groove portion 101. The thickness of the groove portion 101 along the direction perpendicular to the substrate 10 is H, 0μm<H≤10μm.
[0042] In the above embodiment, the groove portion 101 is formed by the side surface of the substrate 10 facing the retaining wall structure 12 being recessed toward the side surface of the substrate 10 facing away from the retaining wall structure 12. Forming the groove portion 101 on the substrate 10 can further increase the ink capacity of the retaining wall structure 12 for the first functional layer and / or the second functional layer, reduce the probability of ink overflowing the receiving opening 123 and flowing into the pixel opening 122, and further improve the uniformity of the film layer thickness within the pixel opening 122.
[0043] Specifically, the orthographic projections of the groove portion 101 and the limiting structure 121 on the substrate 10 do not overlap, so that the substrate 10 can provide good support for the limiting structure 121, thereby improving the connection stability between the two and avoiding the limiting structure 121 being located on the groove portion 101, which causes the contact area between the substrate 10 and the limiting structure 121 to be small and makes the connection between the two unstable.
[0044] Specifically, the thickness H of the groove portion 101 along a direction perpendicular to the substrate 10 can be 0.5 μm, 0.8 μm, 1.0 μm, 1.3 μm, 1.6 μm, 2.4 μm, 2.9 μm, 3.1 μm, 3.5 μm, 3.8 μm, 4.0 μm, 4.5 μm, 5 μm, 7.2 μm, 8.4 μm, 9.6 μm, 10 μm, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application. Selecting the above dimensions can avoid damage to the devices in the substrate 10.
[0045] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in Figure 5, the limiting structure 121 includes a second limiting structure 125 and a third limiting structure 126 stacked in a direction away from the substrate 10, the orthographic projection of the third limiting structure 126 on the substrate 10 is located within the orthographic projection of the second limiting structure 125 on the substrate 10, and the accommodating opening 123 passes through the third limiting structure 126 in a direction perpendicular to the substrate 10.
[0046] In the above embodiment, the second defining structure 125 can be a pixel definition layer, and the third defining structure 126 is located on the side of the second defining structure 125 facing away from the substrate 10. The second defining structure 125 and the third defining structure 126 are independent of each other and are in contact with each other. The receiving opening 123 is formed only in the third defining structure 126. This embodiment allows the addition of a third defining structure 126 without changing the existing manufacturing process of the display panel 1, which has minimal impact on the manufacturing process of the display panel 1 and helps save costs.
[0047] In the above embodiment, as shown in Figure 5, the second limiting structure 125 includes a receiving groove 1251, and the third limiting structure 126 is located in the receiving groove 1251, so that the capacity of the retaining wall structure 12 for ink is increased, including the volume of the receiving opening 123 and the volume of the position where the receiving groove 1251 is connected to the receiving opening 123, thereby reducing the probability of ink overflowing the receiving opening 123 and flowing into the pixel opening 122, so as to further improve the uniformity of the film layer thickness in the pixel opening 122.
[0048] In the above embodiment, the dimension D of the third confining structure 126 along a direction perpendicular to the substrate 10 is 0.5 μm ≤ D ≤ 8 μm. Specifically, D can be 0.5 μm, 0.9 μm, 1.1 μm, 1.3 μm, 1.7 μm, 2.4 μm, 2.8 μm, 3.1 μm, 3.3 μm, 3.8 μm, 4.0 μm, 4.3 μm, 4.4 μm, 4.9 μm, 5.0 μm, 5.2 μm, 5.7 μm, 6.0 μm, 6.5 μm, 7.3 μm, 7.5 μm, 7.8 μm, 8.0 μm, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application. Selecting these dimensions ensures that the ink between the light-emitting structures 113 is contained within the receiving opening 123 while also meeting the requirements for a thin and lightweight display panel 1.
[0049] In the above embodiment, D can be further made in the range of 1μm-5μm, that is, 1μm≤D≤5μm; it can be 1μm, 1.1μm, 1.3μm, 1.4μm, 1.5μm, 2.4μm, 2.9μm, 3.1μm, 3.5μm, 3.8μm, 4.1μm, 4.3μm, 4.8μm 5μm, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application.
[0050] In the above embodiment, the second confining structure 125 includes a first end proximate to the third confining structure 126, and the third confining structure 126 includes a second end proximate to the second confining structure 125. The distance between the edge of the first end proximate to the pixel opening 122 and the edge of the second end proximate to the pixel opening 122 is L, where L is less than 2 μm. Specifically, L can be 0.5 μm, 0.8 μm, 1.0 μm, 1.3 μm, 1.6 μm, 1.7 μm, 1.9 μm, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application. Selecting the above-mentioned dimensions allows the third limiting structure 126 to be located near the edge of the surface of the side of the second limiting structure 125 facing away from the substrate 10, thereby making the volume of the accommodating opening 123 larger without changing the dimensions between the side of the third limiting structure 126 close to the pixel opening 122 and the side away from the pixel opening 122, while reducing the area of the portion of the second limiting structure 125 that is not blocked by the third limiting structure 126 and the accommodating opening 123, thereby reducing the probability of ink falling here and then flowing into the pixel opening 122, thereby further improving the uniformity of the film thickness.
[0051] In the above embodiment, along a direction parallel to the substrate 10, the minimum distance S between the side of the third confining structure 126 closest to the pixel opening 122 and the side further away from the pixel opening 122 is less than 5 μm. Specifically, S can be 0.5 μm, 0.8 μm, 1.0 μm, 1.3 μm, 1.6 μm, 2.4 μm, 2.9 μm, 3.1 μm, 3.5 μm, 3.8 μm, 4.0 μm, 4.2 μm, 4.5 μm, 4.8 μm, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application. Selecting these dimensions can reduce the volume of the solid portion of the third confining structure 126, while maintaining the accuracy of the manufacturing process, thereby increasing the volume of the accommodating opening 123.
[0052] In the above embodiment, specifically, S<2 μm can be further limited to 0.5 μm, 0.9 μm, 1.1 μm, 1.3 μm, 1.7 μm, 1.8 μm, 1.9 μm, etc., which is not particularly limited in this application, so as to further increase the volume of the receiving opening 123 .
[0053] In the above embodiment, the material of the third limiting structure 126 includes at least one of polyimide, epoxy resin, acrylic resin, silicone resin, silicon nitride, silicon oxide, and a fluorine-containing compound. Specifically, the fluorine-containing compound is a compound including a perfluoromethyl group, a perfluoroethyl group, or a perfluorophenyl group, or a derivative of a compound including a perfluoromethyl group, a perfluoroethyl group, or a perfluorophenyl group.
[0054] Specifically, the material of the second limiting structure 125 can be the same as the material of the third limiting structure 126 , or the above materials can be selected, which is not particularly limited in this application.
[0055] In the above embodiment, the third limiting structure 126 is made of a hydrophobic material.
[0056] In the above embodiment, the third confining structure 126 is made of a hydrophobic material, specifically a perfluoromethyl, perfluoroethyl, or perfluorophenyl substituted material. Using a hydrophobic material can reduce the likelihood of ink residue on the confining structure 121 and improve the uneven film thickness caused by the amount of ink remaining on the sidewalls of the pixel opening 122.
[0057] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in FIG6 , the retaining wall structure 12 includes a plurality of accommodating openings 123 , and the plurality of accommodating openings are interconnected.
[0058] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in FIG. 7 , a portion of the retaining wall structure 12 located between adjacent pixel openings 122 includes a plurality of accommodating openings 123 , and the plurality of accommodating openings 123 are arranged around the pixel openings 122 .
[0059] In the above embodiment, by providing a plurality of accommodating openings 123 in the portion of the retaining wall structure 12 located between adjacent first electrodes 111, the length of the first functional layer 112 and / or the second functional layer 114 can be increased, thereby increasing the length of the lateral transmission path, reducing the lateral crosstalk problem, and improving the luminous yield.
[0060] In one feasible embodiment, as shown in FIG7 , a plurality of the accommodating openings are arranged around the pixel openings, and the orthographic projection of the inner wall of the accommodating opening 123 on the substrate 10 is a circle or a polygon. Alternatively, as shown in FIG8 and FIG9 , the orthographic projection of the inner wall of the accommodating opening 123 on the substrate is a preset pattern, which includes two first sides that are oppositely disposed and parallel to each other and two second sides that are oppositely disposed and parallel to each other, the first sides being straight line segments and the second sides being curved segments, and the length direction of the straight line segments being parallel to the arrangement direction of adjacent pixel openings. Specifically, as shown in FIG8 and FIG9 , there are multiple or one accommodating opening 123 between adjacent pixel openings 122, which is not particularly limited in this application.
[0061] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in FIG. 10 , FIG. 11 and FIG. 12 , at least some of the multiple receiving openings 123 in the retaining wall structure 12 are connected to each other.
[0062] In the above embodiment, at least part of the multiple receiving openings 123 are connected to each other so that ink can flow in the receiving openings 123. Ink at a position with more ink can flow to a position with less ink, thereby improving the probability of overflow due to excessive ink at individual positions.
[0063] In a feasible embodiment, the pixel openings are arranged in an array along the first direction and the second direction, and the plurality of accommodating openings extend along the first direction and are disposed between adjacent pixel openings along the second direction.
[0064] In a feasible implementation manner, one or more of the plurality of accommodating openings are located between adjacent pixel openings along the second direction.
[0065] In a feasible implementation, the accommodating opening extending along the first direction is disposed through the first direction so that both ends of the accommodating opening respectively exceed the corresponding pixel opening.
[0066] In the above embodiment, the accommodating opening extends along the first direction, and the projection of the accommodating opening in the second direction covers the projections of at least two pixel openings in the second direction.
[0067] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in Figure 13, the cross-sectional shape of the limiting structure 121 perpendicular to the plane where the substrate 10 is located is an inverted trapezoid, that is, the cross-sectional shape of the limiting structure 121 along the plane perpendicular to the substrate is an inverted trapezoid, thereby improving the probability of ink remaining on the side walls of the receiving opening 123 and the pixel opening 122, and improving the uneven film thickness caused by different residual amounts on the side walls.
[0068] In the above embodiment, the base angle of the inverted trapezoid is a, 90°≤a≤150°; a can be 95°, 100°, 105°, 108°, 110°, 116°, 123°, 135°, 137°, 141°, 143°, 147°, 150°, etc., and is not particularly limited in this application.
[0069] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in Figure 2, the cross-sectional shape of the limiting structure 121 perpendicular to the plane where the substrate 10 is located is an inverted trapezoid, and the display panel 1 also includes an encapsulation layer 13, the encapsulation layer 13 includes a plurality of spaced encapsulation sections 131, the encapsulation sections 131 are in contact with the side walls of the pixel opening 122, and the orthographic projection of the encapsulation section 131 on the substrate 10 covers the orthographic projection of the light-emitting structure 113 on the substrate 10.
[0070] The inverted trapezoidal design allows the encapsulation layer 13 to be disconnected to form an encapsulation section 131 . The encapsulation section 131 can independently encapsulate the light emitting structure 113 . The encapsulation section 131 contacts the sidewall of the pixel opening 122 , thereby improving encapsulation reliability.
[0071] When the bottom angle of the inverted trapezoid is a, and 90°≤a≤150°, the contact yield between the packaging portion 131 and the sidewall of the pixel opening 122 can be improved, further improving packaging reliability.
[0072] In another feasible embodiment, the cross-sectional shape of the defining structure 121 perpendicular to the plane of the substrate 10 is a regular trapezoid, triangle, or quadrilateral, which is not particularly limited in this application. Using a regular shape design is highly reliable and facilitates simulation, so as to simulate the effect of the display panel 1 before the display panel 1 is manufactured.
[0073] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in Figures 13 and 2, the first functional layer 112 includes a first portion 1120 and a second portion 1121 that are intermittently arranged, the first portion 1120 is located in the pixel opening 122, and the second portion 1121 is located in the accommodating opening 123, and / or, the second functional layer 114 includes a third portion 1140 and a fourth portion 1141 that are intermittently arranged, the third portion 1140 is located in the pixel opening 122, and the fourth portion 1141 is located in the accommodating opening 123.
[0074] In the above embodiment, the first functional layer 112 and the second functional layer 114 can be formed by a wet coating process or by evaporation. When the first functional layer is formed by a wet coating process, ink cannot remain on the sidewalls of the pixel opening 122, the side surface of the retaining wall structure 12 facing away from the substrate 10, and the sidewalls of the receiving opening 123. As a result, the first functional layer 112 includes a first portion 1120 and a second portion 1121. The first portion 1120 is located within the pixel opening 122, and the second portion 1121 is located within the receiving opening 123. When the second functional layer is prepared by a wet coating process, ink cannot remain on the side wall of the pixel opening 122, the side surface of the retaining wall structure 12 facing away from the substrate 10, and the side wall of the receiving opening 123, so that the second functional layer 114 includes two parts, the third part 1140 and the fourth part 1141, the third part 1140 is located in the pixel opening 122, and the fourth part 1141 is located in the receiving opening 123.
[0075] In a feasible embodiment, please refer to Figure 5 again, the first functional layer 112 includes at least one of a hole injection layer 1122, a hole transport layer 1123 and an electron blocking layer; the second functional layer 114 includes at least one of a hole blocking layer, an electron transport layer 1142 and an electron injection layer.
[0076] In a feasible embodiment, as shown in Figure 2, the cross-sectional shape of the limiting structure 121 perpendicular to the plane where the substrate 10 is located is an inverted trapezoid, and the display panel also includes a second electrode 115, which is located on the side of the second functional layer away from the substrate 10. Adjacent second electrodes 115 are arranged at intervals, and the positive projection of the second electrode 115 on the substrate 10 covers the pixel opening 122.
[0077] In the above embodiment, the retaining wall structure can separate the second electrode 115 layer formed on the entire surface into multiple, separately arranged second electrodes 115, thereby enabling independent control of different light-emitting structures 113. The brightness of the light-emitting structures 113 in different areas can be adjusted according to the different brightness requirements of different areas, thereby reducing power consumption. This also alleviates the problem of different display brightness in different areas of the display panel 1 caused by IR drop.
[0078] In a specific embodiment, as shown in FIG2 , the first electrode 111 may be an anode, and the second electrode 115 may be a cathode. As shown in FIG5 , the first functional layer 112 may include a hole injection layer 1122 and a hole transport layer 1123 stacked in a direction away from the substrate 10. The second functional layer 114 may include an electron transport layer 1142, and the light-emitting layer may be a quantum dot light-emitting layer.
[0079] At this time, the hole injection layer 1122, hole transport layer 1123, quantum dot light-emitting layer, and electron transport layer 1142 can all be prepared using a wet coating process. Therefore, the above-mentioned film layers each include a portion located within the pixel opening 122 and a portion located within the receiving opening 123. The portion located within the pixel opening 122 and the portion located within the receiving opening 123 are discontinuous. The above-mentioned film layers are not formed on the side surface of the retaining wall structure 12 or the side surface facing away from the substrate 10. The second electrode 115 can be provided continuously across the entire surface or independently, and this application does not specifically limit this.
[0080] The quantum dot light-emitting layer located in the receiving opening can be removed through a process.
[0081] In another specific embodiment, as shown in FIG2 , the first electrode 111 may be a cathode, the second electrode 115 may be an anode, and as shown in FIG3 , the first functional layer 112 may include an electron transport layer 1142. The second functional layer 114 may include a hole transport layer 1123 and a hole injection layer 1122 stacked in a direction away from the substrate 10, and the light-emitting layer may be a quantum dot light-emitting layer.
[0082] At this time, the electron transport layer 1142 and the quantum dot light-emitting layer can both be prepared using a wet coating process, so the above-mentioned film layers all include a portion located within the pixel opening 122 and a portion located within the receiving opening 123. The portion located within the pixel opening 122 and the portion located within the receiving opening 123 are discontinuous, and the side surface of the retaining wall structure 12 and the side surface facing away from the substrate 10 do not form the above-mentioned film layer. The hole transport layer 1123 and the hole injection layer 1122 can be prepared using an evaporation process, so they can be continuously provided on the entire surface. The second electrode 115 can be continuously provided on the entire surface, or independently of each other, and this application does not specifically limit this.
