[0003] Technology field
[0004] The present invention relates to an exhaust gas post-treatment system in which a methane oxidation catalytic reaction and a selective catalytic reduction reaction occur. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a vessel including such an exhaust gas post-treatment system.
[0005] When fuel is burned in an engine, exhaust gas is generated. Exhaust gas contains harmful substances such as nitrogen oxides, methane, and sulfur oxides, and regulations on these substances are becoming increasingly stringent. Therefore, research is being conducted on exhaust gas aftertreatment systems that remove harmful substances contained in exhaust gas to meet the emission levels required by these regulations.
[0006] Depending on the fuel, the exhaust gas passes through different post-treatment devices. For example, diesel fuel uses a selective catalytic reduction device to remove nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas, while natural gas uses a methane oxidation catalyst to remove methane contained in the exhaust gas.
[0007] Recently, ships are often equipped with engines that run on multiple fuels, and thus are sometimes equipped with both selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and methane oxidation catalysts. In this case, the type of aftertreatment device that the exhaust gas passes through varies depending on the fuel used.
[0008] At this time, there is a need to utilize space within the vessel by compacting the exhaust gas aftertreatment system, which includes a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) device and a methane oxidation catalyst device. Furthermore, since both the SCR and the MCR device actively undergo catalytic reactions at high temperatures, a continuous supply of heat is required to the aftertreatment devices.

[0036] <Example 1>
[0037] FIG. 1 is a drawing showing an exhaust gas aftertreatment system according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
[0038] FIG. 2 is a drawing showing a specific appearance of an exhaust gas aftertreatment system according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
[0039] Referring to FIG. 1, an exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to a first embodiment of the present invention includes a selective catalytic reduction device (10) provided on a selective catalytic reduction line (L1); a methane oxidation catalyst device (20) provided on a methane oxidation catalyst line (L2); and a bypass line (BL) through which exhaust gas is bypassed so as not to pass through the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20). The selective catalytic reduction line (L1), the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2), and the bypass line (BL) are configured in parallel, and the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) are arranged adjacent to each other so as to enable heat transfer to each other. Hereinafter, each configuration will be described in detail.
[0040] A selective catalytic reduction device (10) is a device that reduces nitrogen oxides contained in exhaust gas into nitrogen and water, which are harmless to the human body, and then discharges them by reacting them using a reducing agent and a denitrification catalyst. The control unit (100) controls the exhaust gas generated from an engine using diesel fuel so that nitrogen oxides are removed while passing through the selective catalytic reduction device (10) on the selective catalytic reduction line (L1). At this time, a device that supplies a reducing agent to the front end of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) may be installed. For example, a urea solution (ammonia) injection device and a mixer may be applied to supply the reducing agent to the selective catalytic reduction device (10).
[0041] For example, the control unit (100) can open the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10), close the valve (50) on the bypass line and the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), and control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using diesel fuel to flow along the selective catalytic reduction line (L1).
[0042] A methane oxidation catalyst device (20) is a device that oxidizes and removes methane contained in exhaust gas. The control unit (100) controls exhaust gas generated from an engine using natural gas to pass through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) on the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2) so that methane is removed.
[0043] For example, the control unit (100) can open the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), close the valve (50) on the bypass line and the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10), and control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using natural gas to flow along the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2).
[0044] Additionally, if the exhaust gas does not undergo a post-treatment process or only a portion of the exhaust gas undergoes a post-treatment process, the control unit (100) can control at least a portion of the exhaust gas to flow along the bypass line (BL) bypassing the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20).
[0045] For example, the control unit (100) can open the valve (50) on the bypass line (BL), close the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) so that all exhaust gas flows along the bypass line (BL). In addition, the control unit (100) can close the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), and control the valve (30) and the valve (50) so that some of the exhaust gas flows to the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and some of the exhaust gas flows to the bypass line (BL).
[0046] The selective catalytic reduction line (L1), the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2), and the bypass line (BL) are configured in parallel, so that exhaust gas passing through one line cannot pass through another line.
[0047]
[0048] The selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) are arranged adjacent to each other so that they can transfer heat to each other. This not only facilitates the use of space within the ship, but also allows the heat generated in the post-treatment device, where a reaction occurs as the exhaust gas passes, to be transferred to the post-treatment device, where no reaction occurs because the exhaust gas has not passed through it. For example, when diesel fuel is used to generate exhaust gas, the exhaust gas passes through the selective catalytic reduction device (10) along the selective catalytic reduction line (L1). At this time, the temperature of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) increases due to the catalytic reaction, which is an exothermic reaction. This heat is transferred to the adjacent methane oxidation catalyst device (20), where the catalytic reaction does not occur because the exhaust gas has not passed through it, so that the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) can be preheated. Thereafter, when gaseous fuel is used and the exhaust gas passes through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) is preheated, so that the heat that must be supplied at the beginning of the methane oxidation catalytic reaction can be reduced.
[0049] Contrary to the previous example, the selective catalytic reduction device (10) may be preheated by the catalytic reaction occurring in the methane oxidation catalyst device (20). This increases the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1).
[0050] In addition, the bypass line (BL) may be arranged adjacent to at least one of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) or the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) so as to enable heat transfer between the selective catalytic reduction device (10) or the methane oxidation catalyst device (20). This not only facilitates space utilization within the ship, but also allows heat generated in the post-treatment device through which the exhaust gas passes and a reaction occurs to be transferred to the bypass line (BL) through which the exhaust gas does not pass, or allows heat of the exhaust gas bypassed by the bypass line (BL) to be transferred to the post-treatment device through which the exhaust gas does not pass and a reaction does not occur.
[0051] When exhaust gas does not pass through a bypass line (BL), the temperature inside the bypass line drops, posing a risk of low-temperature corrosion. Therefore, if the heat generated in the post-treatment device, where reactions occur as exhaust gas passes through it, is transferred to the bypass line (BL), where exhaust gas does not pass, low-temperature corrosion can be prevented.
[0052] When the heat of the exhaust gas bypassed through the bypass line (BL) is transferred to the selective catalytic reduction device (10) or methane oxidation catalyst device (20) where no reaction occurs because the exhaust gas does not pass through, the selective catalytic reduction device (10) or methane oxidation catalyst device (20) is preheated as described above, thereby increasing the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1).
[0053] At least one region of the selective catalytic reduction device (10), the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), and the bypass line (BL) can be arranged within one housing (80). When arranged within one housing (80), partial preheating is possible using the heat contained in the exhaust gas, thereby saving energy required for preheating and reducing the preheating time, thereby further improving the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1).
[0054] As shown in Fig. 2(a), a bypass line (BL) may be arranged adjacent to the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), respectively, and between the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20). As shown in Fig. 2(b), the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) may be directly adjacent to each other, and the bypass line (BL) may be arranged adjacent to them. However, this is an example of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to the first embodiment of the present invention, and is not limited thereto.
[0055]
[0056] <Example 2>
[0057] FIG. 3 is a drawing showing an exhaust gas aftertreatment system according to a second embodiment of the present invention.
[0058] Referring to FIG. 3, an exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to a second embodiment of the present invention includes a selective catalytic reduction device (10) provided in a selective catalytic reduction line (L1); a methane oxidation catalyst device (20) provided in a methane oxidation catalyst line (L2); and a control unit (100) that controls exhaust gas generated from diesel fuel to flow into the selective catalytic reduction line (L1) and controls exhaust gas generated from gaseous fuel to flow into the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2), wherein the selective catalytic reduction line (L1) and the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2) are configured in parallel, the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) are arranged adjacent to each other so as to enable heat transfer, and the control unit (100) controls the exhaust gas to flow into the selective catalytic reduction line (L1) when bypassing the exhaust gas generated from the gaseous fuel. Hereinafter, differences from the first embodiment will be described.
[0059] The exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to the second embodiment of the present invention does not have a separate bypass line, and the selective catalytic reduction line (L1) serves as a bypass line of the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2).
[0060] The control unit (100) is the same as the first embodiment in that it controls exhaust gas generated from an engine using diesel fuel to pass through a selective catalytic reduction device (10) on a selective catalytic reduction line (L1) so that nitrogen oxides are removed, and it controls exhaust gas generated from an engine using natural gas to pass through a methane oxidation catalyst device (20) on a methane oxidation catalyst line (L2) so that methane is removed.
[0061] However, a difference occurs when the exhaust gas generated from an engine using natural gas does not pass through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) or only a portion of the exhaust gas passes through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20). The control unit (100) can control so that at least a portion of the exhaust gas bypasses the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and flows along the selective catalytic reduction line (L1). That is, the selective catalytic reduction line (L1) can be a bypass line of the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2).
[0062] For example, if the exhaust gas generated from an engine using natural gas can be discharged directly into the atmosphere without passing through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), the control unit (100) can open the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and close the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) to control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using natural gas to flow along the selective catalytic reduction line (L1). This is possible because, even if the exhaust gas generated from the engine using natural gas passes through the selective catalytic reduction device (10), there is no problem of contamination or loss of function of the catalyst used in the selective catalytic reduction reaction. However, since the methane oxidation catalyst may lose its function when the exhaust gas generated from the engine using diesel fuel comes into contact with it, the exhaust gas generated from the engine using diesel fuel cannot be controlled to flow along the methane oxidation catalyst line (L2).
[0063] The selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) can be arranged adjacent to each other so that they can transfer heat to each other, and as described above, this not only facilitates the use of space within the ship, but also increases the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas post-treatment system (1) by preheating the exhaust gas post-treatment device, where the post-treatment reaction is not occurring, by the exhaust gas post-treatment device, where the post-treatment reaction is occurring.
[0064] The selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) can be placed in one housing (80). When placed in one housing (80), partial preheating is possible using the heat contained in the exhaust gas, thereby saving energy required for preheating and reducing the preheating time, thereby increasing heat transfer efficiency and further improving the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1).
[0065]
[0066] <Example 3>
[0067] FIG. 4 is a drawing showing an exhaust gas aftertreatment system according to a third embodiment of the present invention.
[0068] Referring to FIG. 4, an exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to a third embodiment of the present invention includes a selective catalytic reduction device (10) provided on an exhaust gas main line (ML); a methane oxidation catalyst device (20) provided on the exhaust gas main line (ML) at a rear end of the selective catalytic reduction device (10); and a first bypass line (BL1) branching from the exhaust gas main line (ML) between the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and bypassing the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), wherein the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and the first bypass line (BL1) are arranged adjacent to each other so as to enable heat transfer. Hereinafter, each component will be described in detail.
[0069] The exhaust gas post-treatment system (1) according to the third embodiment of the present invention, unlike the first and second embodiments, has a selective catalytic reduction device (10) and a methane oxidation catalyst device (20) connected in series. Therefore, exhaust gas that has passed through the selective catalytic reduction device (10) can further pass through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20).
[0070] Exhaust gas generated from an engine using diesel fuel passes through a selective catalytic reduction device (10) to remove nitrogen oxides, and the exhaust gas that passes through the selective catalytic reduction device (10) bypasses the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) through a first bypass line (BL1). This is because, as described above, there is a risk that the methane oxidation catalyst will lose its function if it comes into contact with exhaust gas generated from an engine using diesel fuel.
[0071] For example, the control unit (100) can open the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) to control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using diesel fuel to pass through the selective catalytic reduction device (10). Then, the control unit (100) can close the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and open the valve (60) on the first bypass line (BL1) to control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using diesel fuel to bypass the methane oxidation catalyst device (20).
[0072] Exhaust gas generated from an engine using gas fuel passes through a selective catalytic reduction device (10) and then enters a methane oxidation catalyst device (20), where methane is removed through a methane oxidation catalytic reaction. Since there is no concern that the catalyst of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) will lose its function even when it comes into contact with exhaust gas generated from an engine using gas fuel, the exhaust gas does not need to bypass the selective catalytic reduction device (10).
[0073] For example, the control unit (100) can open the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) to control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using gas fuel to pass through the selective catalytic reduction device (10). Then, the control unit (100) can open the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and close the valve (60) on the first bypass line (BL1) to control the exhaust gas generated from the engine using gas fuel to pass through the methane oxidation catalyst device (20). If necessary, the control unit (100) can control the valve (40) and the valve (60) so that at least a portion of the exhaust gas generated from the engine using gas fuel flows into the first bypass line (BL1).
[0074] In addition, the exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to the third embodiment of the present invention may further include a second bypass line (BL2) branching from the exhaust gas main line (ML) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and bypassing the selective catalytic reduction device (10).
[0075] If the exhaust gas does not undergo a post-treatment process or only a portion of the exhaust gas undergoes a post-treatment process, the control unit (100) can control at least a portion of the exhaust gas to flow along the second bypass line (BL2) and the first bypass line (BL1) by bypassing the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20).
[0076] For example, the control unit (100) can close the valve (30) in front of the selective catalytic reduction device (10), open the valve (70) on the second bypass line (BL2) to control the exhaust gas to flow along the second bypass line (BL2), close the valve (40) in front of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20), and open the valve (60) on the first bypass line (BL1) to control the exhaust gas to flow along the first bypass line (BL1).
[0077] The selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the second bypass line (BL2), and the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and the first bypass line (BL1) can be arranged adjacent to each other so that they can transfer heat to each other, which not only facilitates space utilization within the ship as described above, but also increases the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) through low-temperature corrosion prevention of the bypass line and preheating of the aftertreatment device.
[0078] At least one area of the methane oxidation catalyst device (20) and the first bypass line (BL1) may be arranged in one housing, or at least one area of the selective catalytic reduction device (10) and the second bypass line (BL2) may be arranged in one housing (80). When arranged in one housing (80), partial preheating is possible using the heat of the exhaust gas, so that energy required for preheating can be saved and the preheating time can be reduced, thereby increasing heat transfer efficiency and further improving the thermal efficiency of the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1).
[0079]
[0080] Additionally, the vessel may include an exhaust gas aftertreatment system (1) according to one embodiment of the present invention.
